Chapter 4
Fiona woke up to a blinding light and groaned. She whimpered finding her whole body sour and burning with fever. Her dry mouth parted before she tried to open her eyes. A huge window without any drapes was letting the sun roast her.
She got her hand up to her face before she turned her face to witness many beds beside hers. She has never been to a place like this but a red cross tells her it was some kind of hospital. She recalled how she was pushed from the waterfall. She could still feel Sienna's face in her hands and how Troy writhed in pain.
He is dead. Your parents are dead and thanks to you...your friend is dead too. She recalled Roni telling her. She looked to her left and noticed two royal guards getting into the ward. Her breathing got erratic wondering if they were here to look for her but they stopped at someone else's bed and she jumped when someone tapped her shoulder.
"What are you looking at? I have been trying to call you. Can't you hear me?" Fiona looked at those guards once again before she looked at the man who was calling for her attention.
"Where am I?" Fiona asked but got her focus on the guards again.
"You are at a hospital." That man replied and Fiona looked at him wondering who is. But then the logo of the hospital on his shirt told her he was staff. "Which...which pack it is?" She asked that male nurse.
"You are in the capital. In the Bluemoon..." Fiona had her eyes widened. She was in the capital. How? She looked at the guards again and this time one of them returned her gaze. She was quick to look at the nurse and whisper. "I...I have to go."
"You can't. You have to tell me where your parents are. I don't know if they are here or not..." Of course, none of the werewolves under the age of ten was allowed on their own. And, she could tell they can guess her age.
"I...Who got me here?" Fiona asked and the nurse got his eyes narrowed. "Why don't you only tell me about your pack, and, your parent's names." Fiona only stared at a woman who came to place a light curtain on the window. It finally put her out of the misery of lava sun.
"What's your name..." The nurse asked again and Fiona shook her head.
"I don't..." And, started crying audibly. It was the only thing she knew in difficult situations. The commotion got one of the guards to come to her bed and ask.
"Is there something wrong?" The nurse who knew he had to answer a royal guard was quick to fill him in.
"She was transferred here from another hospital that was full. We don't have any information on her and she is fussing like she is two and can't understand me." Fiona stopped breathing the moment she got the attention of guard. He glared at the nurse and told him. "You aren't paid here to get upset with your patients."
Fiona noticed that man coming to sit on her bed and what she felt was a pity. "Are you in pain?" Fiona stared at that man before nodding. "Where does it hurt the most?" He asked and Fiona got her hand up to touch her bandage on the head.
"I can see. Do you remember who attacked you?" Fiona remained silent wondering what if he caught her lies with her face. She wasn't a liar. Fiona gulped and tried to prepare herself.
"I don't know." That man nodded and cocked his head to the left. "You know I believe you but I only want your parents here. They must be worried. Don't you think? Look I know the riots had been disastrous and I can only imagine what you had been through but we are trying to get everyone back to their pack..." Fiona got her breathing laboured recalling how her whole pack was destroyed. She recalled Sienna's eyes or how Troy had a lot of wolves at him. They were in pain. And, maybe in even more agony than she was in right now. "...hey...look it can be hard when you wake up and you don't know where your family is..." Fiona looked at the man. She knew exactly where her family was. They were in hell. Even in more agony. In the never-ending pain. They were the traitors.
"Can you recall the day of the royal party? The day of the riots?...anything honey...where were you?" Fiona recalled the day and shook her head. "Who your parents are?" The guard asked and Fiona shook her head again. "I think she is a rouge." The nurse said and Fiona shook her head violently this time and was quick to respond. "I am no rogue."
"If you know that you are no rogue then you must know who are you? You are for sure five, at least." That guard seemed persistent and Fiona gulped hard before she whispered.
"My father belongs to Dark feral." That guard sighed out and smiled. "I am from Dark feral too. I came here to join the forces. God, you scared me little one. Who is your father? My name is David. You tell me...what's yours."
"I don't know who my father is. My mother was another woman and she is dead too." Fiona bit her mouth and looked at her hands. The very same hands that had felt how Sienna's face was so cold.
"But you must know something or how he is supposed to get to your father?" The nurse said only for the guard to glare at the nurse again.
But then the guard looked at Fiona with a smile. "I can help you trace your father. Our alpha is a nice man and he will help to trace your father too."
"My mother used to work for Paula's aunt," Fiona said and even surprised herself.
"Who is Paula..." The guard asked and Fiona got quiet again. "I was given to Paula. To work for her." The nurse was getting impatient now and was quick to ask, "Then tell us. We will call your mistress."
"You aren't going to talk like this to someone who has any kind of ties to my pack." The guard warned the ook little one if you want I can talk to your mistress. I don't know from which pack she belongs to, but no one should make you work. Not when you are not even ten. If you want I can help you get to the dark feral." Fiona looked into his eyes and bit her lip before she said,
"But how will I figure out who my father. I have never seen him..."
"Our pack is small honey. They must know who your father is. Can you tell me where your mom used to live," Fiona gulped hard and shook her head. "I used to stay home always. But mom had a lot of friends."
"Fiona, you don't need to be scared. You have me here." David glared at the nurse and was quick to tell him. "Shift her to a better place. I will pay for her."
"But..." Before the nurse could object David got his card out. "Get it all on it. I only need two days to figure out who is she...in fact, no...make it one. I will be back soon, ok?"
David looked at her but Fiona got her head down wondering how she was supposed to survive when the moon goddess is watching her. How could she lie to the moon goddess? She couldn't even make a prayer. Goddess was to help the one with virtue to get her caught. There was no place left for her.
Fiona was shifted to a ward where there was only one other patient. And, he seemed to be a guard too who seemed critical. Fiona couldn't sleep wondering why she tried to take Sienna's identity. It just came out of her mouth. For sure there were people who knows about Sienna and she was bound to burst sooner or later. For a moment she wanted to leave the hospital and run to the wilds. But even then she knew she can't outrun the moon goddess.
Looking at her hands she realizes how she had a traitor's blood in her veins. Even the thought of her father was enough to burn her. She had always found her dad yearning for better places and positions. Accepting that her father was involved in any kind of treachery was possible. Fiona walked to the window and removed the curtain to inhale sharply. She opened her eyes slowly and was awed looking at the sky touching buildings. She looked down to notice many cars running. She was aware that capital has millions of people. The state was really a work of art. She had seen the images but nothing could define what she was looking at.
Nobody came to visit that guard and she only sat there hating her father more with each passing moment. He ruined thousands of lives, their pack and Troy. Sienna's mere thought made her realize that she was her father's daughter too.
But I didn't have any options, Sienna. They had Troy. But dad? Dad had the option. He chose to be a traitor and bring this on us.
It was in the middle of the night when she woke up to a commotion. It seems that the unconscious soldier was critical. People were trying to save him. She couldn't help but recall how there was no one to save Troy. She knew she could never imagine what Sienna and Troy were feeling in their last moments. But she remembers how scared she was. She feels weak and helpless with each passing second. She could tell she had no options but to kill herself to stop all of it. She couldn't fight the moon goddess. How was she supposed to look at the moon again when she knows it wants nothing but to kill her?
At six in the morning, that soldier was declared dead. A woman was shifted into her room later that day. She had her arm fracture and no matter how much she tried to talk to her. Fiona didn't answer any of her questions. She knew that any talk or thing she utters could trace anyone to her identity. But this same thing worries her. She wonders what she was to do if her lies get caught by that soldier. That soldier turns out to have ties with dark feral. And, how they were helping families meet their lost ones she knew she could be traced.
Fiona's fever wasn't that bad now but she knew she needed medicines. If she was an adult her wounds weren't going to be this serious. But she was still getting healed faster with medicines.
There were many things she knew about the outside world but there was only so little she knew how to do. Up until now asking Troy had any kind of work done for her. There were servants who didn't even let her pick a needle. She was aware of how other people had to struggle. And, it wasn't the part that scares her. What ran in her veins was more trouble. She was a traitor's daughter. And, if anyone found it she was bound to die. If anyone was found to help her cover her identity was bound to die too.
All of these thoughts were weighing her down and then there was this woman who only wanted to know her name.
"Yea, Thomas...no, no...I am fine." Fiona found that woman talking to someone named Thomas and it was only now that she realizes how Roni must have told him that she ran away. She could tell he must be looking for her. Because if anyone finds out about her identity Thomas was going to be in trouble for not killing her.
She couldn't stop staring at that woman when she got off the phone but didn't have any courage to ask her who this Thomas was. "You know you are rude, right?" That woman told her but Fiona jumped when the door opened. There stood that soldier who left her after making a promise that he will figure out her identity.
Fiona gulped looking at his expression. She could sense the dejection in his aura. She wonders if he had find out about her real identity.
"I had figured out your identity little one...and even you can tell I am not bearing good news, don't you?"
