Mika

So I know I normally do the majority vote but a couple of you suggested Mika and I really want some variety right now :) (This is sorta edited but there's probably still some mistakes)

And for some reason, Taylor's chapter has like twice as many readers as the chapters with Syrra and Lyzaria's POV. Do you guys like skip around when you read? Or is Wattpad just being stupid again?

"Why does she have to be so fucking stubborn?"

Kandra sighs. "She's not stubborn, she just loyal and honorable."

"Well I wish she wasn't so loyal and honorable," I mutter.

She frowns at me. "You know those are supposed to be admirable traits—"

"Not if they're going to get her killed," I growl.

She sighs again. "She's a lot stronger than you give her credit for. There is a really good chance she will be able to survive without a mate."

"It is extremely rare for a dragon to live longer than a century without a mate and it is unheard of for a dragon to survive longer than a few decades after losing one."

"It hasn't happened before but that doesn't mean it can't ever happen."

I let out a heavy breath. "I'm just worried, she's not exactly off to a strong start. She sat in a silent vigil for her mate and daughter for three days until she finally passed out and her sons brought her to her room and she hasn't left the palace since."

"She's just grieving Mika you need to give her time."

"I really don't think time is going to help."

My sister growls in annoyance. "You have no idea what's going to help. Your mate is still alive and you don't have any kids so you have no clue what she is going through so just leave it alone."

"Fine," I mutter.

*******

"How the hell am I supposed to just leave this alone?"

"Easy, you just stop bothering your Queen about finding a new mate," Haelyn shrugs.

"But she's going to die—"

"No she's not. Your sister lost her mate and a child and she is still standing. If Kandra can do it then I'm sure our Queen can too."

"Kandra's mate didn't die."

"No but he did run away. And he was her bonded mate so it probably hurts about the same," she points out.

"Maybe but giving birth to a dead child isn't the same as losing one after watching them grow up for 16 years."

She sighs. "Okay that part is different. But my point remains the same, if your sister can go through all of that and still walk around like it never happened, then Queen Zari will be fine. She just needs something to distract her—sitting in her room by herself is just going to make it worse."

"Nothing will make her leave though! I mean Nathan was almost killed and all she did was—" My eyes widen as an idea hits me.

"What?"

"Zari asked me to find someone to train Fara and she said that if I couldn't find someone then she would do it herself."

"Gods what did that girl do now?" Haelyn sighs.

"She almost killed Nathan—again," I mutter.

She shakes her head. "Mika your niece is one step away from being permanently locked in a cold iron cell," she remarks, then sighs. "But if anyone can fix her attitude and help her control her anger it's the dragon queen. Plus Fara is close to the same age as Maia would be now . . ."

"Okay I'm going to go tell her," I say as I start to get up from the bed.

"Wait—now? It's the middle of the night!" My mate scoffs.

"Believe me there's no way she's sleeping. And if I tell her now then they can start training tomorrow," I explain.

"Okay fine," she sighs.

I frown when she starts to get up as well. "What are you doing?"

"I'm coming with you in case she is actually sleeping and decides to kill you for waking her up."

I roll my eyes. "She's not going to kill me."

"I'm still coming, I haven't seen her since the vigil and I care about her as much as you do," she says.

I sigh and lead my mate to the other side of the palace where the royal family sleeps. I knock lightly on the Queen's door but there isn't an answer.

"I told you she's asleep."

I make a face at her before slowly pushing the door open. The room looks empty for a moment but then I spot her sitting on the ledge beneath the window.

"Lyzaria?"

She doesn't move. She doesn't even turn when I walk over. She just keeps staring out the window.

"Are you alright?" I ask.

She looks over at me for a moment and I take a step back in surprise. Her face is somber, but her cheeks are streaked with tears and her eyes burn a fiery red.

"Is her dragon in control?" Haelyn whispers.

"She is one of the few that has learned how to share control so I don't know," I tell her.

"I thought I told you to leave," Lyzaria growls.

"I swear to the gods I will not speak of the mate thing again—" I pause when I notice the bottle in her hand.

She lifts it to her lips and in the light I can see less than half remains. Haelyn nudges my arm. "Honey that's fire-water, she's drunk, she's not going to remember any of this tomorrow."

"Yes she will. I've seen her drunk before, the only thing that changes is her temper. She's still coherent and she'll still remember everything tomorrow."

I look back at Lyzaria. She is staring at a tiny tiara in one hand while hugging the bottle with her other. I swallow hard when I realize the crown is too small for her to have ever worn while she was queen.

"You know what the saddest word is?"

I glance sideways at my mate then back at Zari. "What?"

"Almost," she whispers, her voice cracking. "I almost got there in time . . . he almost made it . . . she almost got the chance to start her life . . . we were almost happy. Almost."

I open my mouth to say something but the words catch in my throat. I clench my jaw and stare down at the floor.

Haelyn squeezes my hand. "My Queen we came to inform you that you are Fara's new trainer. And we think it best if you start right away."

She sighs. "Fine," she mutters before taking another swig of her bottle.

"Would you like me to stay with you?" Haelyn offers but she shakes her head.

"I'd like it if you both leave now."

********

"Your daughter is such a pain in the ass," I mutter.

"Do you want me to punch you?" Kandra growls.

"I'm sorry I'm just saying that if you had raised her differently—"

"Mika I raised her fine, female dragons have no maternal instincts and her father wasn't exactly around to help so I did the best I could with what I had," she snaps.

"And that explains your daughter's behavior."

She glares at me. "Female dragons almost never live to see their children so I'd say the fact that I've survived two births is impressive enough to ignore how misbehaved my daughter is," she growls.

"Yeah I guess that's true," I mutter.

She rolls her eyes before turning back to the group of juveniles. They're separating into sparring partners and Fara won't stop complaining about everyone they try to partner her with.

My sister sighs heavily. "I don't understand why she's so difficult. She behaves perfectly well at home and listens to me and we have no problems," she shrugs. "But then she goes to training and tries to kill one of her littermates."

"I think you're the only person Fara actually respects around here," I remark.

"No not the only one, she respects her too."

I follow my sister's gaze to the figure walking towards us. Her presence is enough to make everyone go silent almost instantly. She looks like royalty with her crown and dress of red silk but it's obvious she hasn't slept or eaten in days.

"Gods she looks so exhausted," Kandra murmurs.

I nod a little as Lyzaria pulls herself up to sit on stone wall beside me. "Are you doing okay?" I ask.

She doesn't respond. Her gaze is fixed on the juveniles who quickly return to training.

Kandra buries her head in her hands with a groan when her daughter starts making faces and arguing with the trainers.

Suddenly Lyzaria is walking towards the juveniles and it all goes silent again. Fara shrinks back a little as she moves closer.

"Your attitude is starting to get on my nerves. You need to stop acting so immature and childish," Queen Zari tells her firmly.

Fara sighs and purses her lips. "Yeah well it's hard when I'm surrounded by dickheads that are pissed off because I'm a better fighter than they are. I mean how am I supposed to listen to trainers that are literally the dumbest and weakest dragons here?"

Lyzaria's eyes flash red. "Well you better start listening because I'm your trainer now. And I don't put up with stubborn little bitches that think they're better than everyone else." Her lip curls upward into a smirk. "So if I were you, I'd fix your attitude before you get to see what happens when you piss off the dragon queen."
