Lyzaria

100% not edited. I will go through it in the morning and fix stuff but right now I am way too tired. Hopefully this chapter still doesn't have too many errors but leave a comment if you see something major.

"Go away."

"I want to talk to you—"

"I said go away."

"Please—"

"Gods just leave me alone!"

I breathe a sigh of annoyance. "Fara just listen to what he has to say, we'll be leaving soon anyway," I tell her.

She growls under her breath but says nothing more as she follows the boy into the hallway. I turn back to my son, currently splayed out on the floor.

"Are you okay?"

"No."

I frown a little when he continues staring at the ceiling. "Are you going to tell me why?"

He lets out a heavy breath then starts chewing on his lip. "I miss home," he finally admits, glancing over at me. "This place is like a war zone when the monsters come and I feel like the village idiot all the time."

The pain on his face makes my dragon growl. "This place is very different from dragon or wolf territory. The culture and environment here is the most diverse of all the territories and it's what makes them so powerful. You've grown up with two species whose sole indicator of power is physical strength and agility, and now you're surrounded by creatures who use magic as their only weapon."

"I suck at magic. Syrra has been trying to teach me for weeks but I've had absolutely no luck."

"Wolves and dragons aren't really supposed to be good with magic—"

"You're good with magic and so is Jaxon," he growls.

"I've been practicing with fire magic for decades, plus my dragon is an ancient spirit so he helps even more," I explain.

"And Jaxon? He's only a few years older than I am, how is he so much better?"

I make a face. "Jaxon is—he's different somehow. His dragon is ancient too but she seems to be far more powerful than anything I've ever seen," I mumble.

"I'm the hybrid, shouldn't I be more powerful than all of you?"

"Now what in the name of the gods gave you that impression?" I ask.

He shrugs. "I don't know. I thought that's why you and dad made us hide what we were. You were afraid they would go after me because I was a hybrid."

"You are more powerful than a normal wolf or Fury dragon—that much is certain. The spirits are not normal dragons," I sigh. "We didn't want anyone to know because we were afraid they would go after Maia. Wolves are weaker than dragons, they always have been and everyone knows it. We thought if people just assumed all of you had dragon blood then our family would be safer. We were afraid someone would use one of you to get at either me or your father."

"Oh," he murmurs. "I guess that's why you stopped caring if we shift or not."

I nod slowly, blinking back the tears that immediately spring to my eyes. I swallow hard. "We'd love to have you back home, Jaxon misses you more than he'd care to admit."

"I can't just leave Syrra, she's my mate."

"Right," I mutter. The Moon Goddess doesn't seem to be very good at choosing mates.

Actually she appears to do quite well. Each mate has flaws and strengths that balance out perfectly when they are together, Mitalonys comments.

Yeah Maia fit perfectly well with her mate, I growl.

He sighs. That was not a fit pairing, but on most occasions you have to admit she does well.

She isn't practical. Interspecies mates are fine except when it comes to royal bloodlines. Watching Kaine and Syrra is like Daerius and I all over again. It isn't fair.

"You should still come to visit—you can bring Syrra if you'd like. In a few days we're going to visit Angel and Zella. Fara came to me with a message saying Zella went into labor this morning."

"Wait seriously?" he asks, sitting up quickly.

"Yeah she wasn't super early or anything so there shouldn't be any problems but there are three of them so who knows what could go wrong. We will stay there for a few days so you can meet us there if that would be better," I say.

"Sounds great."

My head snaps to the doorway where Fara appears. I raise an eyebrow. "Did you have fun?" I ask, noting her disheveled hair and flushed appearance.

"Oh yeah lots," she laughs, nodding vigorously.

"Did you just make out with that guy?" Kaine asks.

She snorts. "Fuck no, he is so not my type."

I roll my eyes a little as realization hits me but Kaine just looks confused. "Wait why isn't he your type and what did you do if you weren't making out!"

"Well he's a he, that's kind of an automatic no for me," she snorts.

"Ah," he mutters. "That's fair."

"Yeah and he's also a vampire," she says, pulling away the collar of her shirt to reveal a bloody bitemark.

"You let him drink your blood?" Kaine asks.

"What! He was dehydrated and it feels good so why not?"

He stares at her. "Seriously?"

"Hey I'm never gonna see him again, I don't have a mate, and you're not allowed to judge because I know about your reputation in the wolf pack!" she growls, pointing her finger at him.

He purses his lips in annoyance. "Yeah okay fine."

I shake my head in amusement. "Alright Fara let's go before you try to kill my son for being annoying," I say, motioning towards the door.

Kaine scowls at me. "Thanks mom I appreciate that."

******

"How are you going to get their blood without giving up the surprise?"

"I'm going to ask for it," I shrug.

"Seriously?"

"My son trusts me, I shouldn't have to give him a reason."

"If my mom asked me to drain some of my blood into a bowl, I'd probably call her insane and go find a guard to lock her up."

I roll my eyes. "You would not. You love your mother too much to do something like that."

"Okay fine, maybe you're right."

"I'm the queen, I'm always right," I smirk.

She laughs a little. "That's probably true too. So after we get the blood what do we do?"

"The shadow master gave me a spell. I have to use it to summons the shadows—"

"I thought this thing was made of shadows?" she asks, looking down at the feline in her arms.

"It is but the shadows we're summoning are actually alive. They are weird, almost god-like creatures. It's where black magic comes from," I explain.

"Wait this is black magic stuff?" she asks, her voice panicked.

"Calm down, it's not going to turn you evil or anything," I tell her. "All we have to do is basically give the creature to the shadows and they will bind it to Jaxon and Ash. Their bond will be a little different from the one Syrra has with her bird since we're doing it a little differently but it will be similar enough."

"Interesting," she murmurs. "So why did you decide to give them this again?"

"They need something to look after and they cannot have children so I figured I'd get them a pet that can also protect them."

"You're such a good mother," she teases with a big grin.

I roll my eyes. "If you don't stop being sarcastic I'm not going to give you your present."

She gasps. "I get a present?"

"Yeah you can have it when we get back."

*******

"Don't ask why just do it."

He eyes me warily. "I hope you realize how creepy and psychotic you seem right now," he mutters, dragging the knife across his palm.

They both hold their bleeding hands over the bowl, filling it halfway before taking the bandages from me. I help them wrap up their hands before picking up the bowl.

"Okay I will be right back, both of you just stay here okay?"

"Mom seriously what the hell is going on?" Jaxon asks.

I smirk a little. "You'll find out in a few minutes."

I take the bowl to my bedroom where Fara is sitting on the floor, throwing tiny fire balls at the leopard cub. Each one it catches burst into tiny sparks that it tries to eat.

"I thought dæmons were supposed to be extremely dangerous?" she says.

"A full grown dæmon that's bonded to someone is," I explain.

"Did you get the blood?"

"Yeah and I think I broke my son's faith in my sanity in the process," I sigh.

"The things we do for family," she sings obnoxiously.

I glare at her a little. "Can you just grab the cub while I read the spell?" I growl in irritation.

She picks up the dæmon by its scruff and holds it still in her lap while I read the spell off the paper. I finish the incantation and drop the paper into the blood, watching as it starts to turn black.

Smoke rises up from the bowl and the tendrils reach around the room. Fara holds out the leopard and the shadows snatch it from her. Everything goes completely black.

"Woah what's going on?"

"It's the shadows," I say.

The smoke slowly fades from the room. Once it's gone I notice the bowl has disappeared as well. The leopard sits in front of me, it's tail swishing slowly.

It looks different now. Its eyes glow two different colors; one is dark green and the other is an icy blue. It's fur also seems to move, almost like the shadows it's made from.

"Woah, can you get me one of these when I find a mate?" Fara asks.

"Doubtful," I snort.

"What! Why not?" she whines.

"Because the last thing you need is something that will make it ten times easier to kill people that annoy you."

"Yeah okay fine," she grumbles.

I chuckle. "Come on."

I carefully grab the dæmon by the scruff of its neck, frowning when it hisses at me.

"Yeah it was a lot nicer when it wasn't bonded to anyone," Fara remarks.

She opens the door for me and we head down the hall to Jaxon's room.

"Okay, ready?" I ask Fara.

She nods, slowly turning the door knob. The kit squirms in my hands and I release its scruff once the door opens.

It vanishes into the room and screaming meets my ears almost immediately.
