Alex's POV

It's been three hours, three fucking long hours since I saw Maya. She is upstairs in my room studying for her exam on Monday. At first I said she should come tomorrow and get some studying done at Lily's house tonight but she convinced me otherwise.

I wanted her to study tonight because I have something planned for tomorrow. We have our one month anniversary. I have learned through the years that it's very important to keep track of these things. Some girls really like it when you remember dates like these.

I am actually really excited but I wish it was under different circumstances though. I would have liked to fly her out for a weekend get away but I guess I should work with what I have.

At one point during the night I was upstairs on my floor reading a book but I was distracted with Maya's breathing. All I wanted to do was kick that door open and hold her. And by keeping my promise, which I now regret by the way, I made the decision to come sit downstairs.

I haven't seen Maya all week. Ok I did see her for a quick cuddle after school every day but it wasn't longer than an hour. So to say I am frustrated sitting here alone with my thoughts while my girlfriend is upstairs in my bedroom, is an understatement.

We are alone tonight, not that anything would happen but just having some alone time with her is what I need.

Believe me, these last couple of weeks my sweet innocent Maya has turned into something that I have fantasies about. The sexual tension is on another level. Every time we have a passionate make out session, I can feel her body wanting more, her heartbeat is racing and the smell of her arousal makes my head spin.

It takes everything inside me to stop. To stop me from ripping off her clothes and kiss every part of her body. It is literal torture.

I would give anything to make her tremble beneath me but I can't.

Not when she doesn't know everything. Being intimate will put us on a whole other level. So she has to know everything first.

But how do you tell a girl who is so sweet and innocent, that sex with a vampire isn't exactly normal. That having sex means I have to mark her and that means I have to drink from her.

She already thinks I am going to kill her. So telling her that would definitely freak her out.

I have tried to hide everything about me though. I am afraid that if she sees anything relating to me being a vampire that she will freak out. So I have made it a habit not to drink blood in front of her. I actually use the stairs in the house rather than jumping up to my floor. I don't read her mind anymore, not that she would know but I don't trust my mouth about letting it slip someday.

So I try to keep it from her, especially now. She has to focus on school. She doesn't need drama right now.

Regarding my special diet; It isn't going great. My body is weak, I don't have the strength to do anything. It takes longer for me to heal and my skin is so fragile.

Marcelo is enjoying this way to much for my taste. He has been jumping at me every chance he gets. He knows I am weak and he takes advantage because he knows this is the only time he will beat me in a fight.

I actually have a couple of bruises on my waist from yesterday. We had a little battle out by the lake and I was flung into a tree. It wasn't that fun for me.

"Alex" I hear the soft whisper from my mate upstairs. My immediate concern makes me jump up and sprint to my bedroom door.

I slowly open it up and see her laying down with her head on her arms looking at me. "Can I take a break?" she whispers but she knows I can hear her.

I can see in her face that she is so tired and it makes me sigh. I walk up to her kneel down beside her chair. "I think you are done for tonight. You can study again tomorrow."

"I think my brain is fried" she whispers with no emotion on her face.

Yep she is done.

"How about I run you a nice bath and you can relax while I make you something to eat?" I say with a sweet smile as I run my hand up and down her arm.

"I am not hungry but I will never say no to a bath" she grins.

"Come on baby, you have to eat. You haven't eaten anything since you got here? " I frown.

She sighs and turns her head away looking down to her lap. "Ok"

"Thank you" I say standing up to leave a kiss on her head before I walk to the bathroom.

I open up the tap and pour in some of the bubble bath that she likes. I don't ever take bath but since she loves it so much, I made sure there are all kinds of things for her to use.

I sit down on the edge of the bath tub and check the temperature every few seconds.

I hear her lazy feet dragging her across the room towards me and I smile when I feel her arms sneak around my neck from behind. "I don't deserve you" she whispers laying her body against my back.

"Are you saying I am a keeper?" I smirk.

"Oh absolutely" she laughs and kisses my cheek down to my neck. I close my eyes and enjoy her lips on me. "But mainly because of this bath tub" she chuckles and moves away.

"I didn't think it was for anything else" I laugh and shake my head but I know she is joking though.

I turn the water off after feeling satisfied with it. I turn my head and hear Maya in my closet. She actually has her own clothes but she loves to sleep in mine, which I am totally fine with by the way. I love my clothes on her too.

She comes back a few seconds later with some sweats and a hoodie in her hands, clearly looking satisfied with her choices.

If it were up to me, I would want her without any clothes.

"Don't fall asleep ok" I stand up and wrap my arms around her small waist. She gives me a small smile and rest her head against mine.

"Can we watch a movie?" she whispers looking at me.

"Isn't that what Friday's are for?" I joke and it earns me a soft giggle.

She lifts her head and gives me a kiss. I rub down her back and it makes her moan, not because of the kiss, definitely not that. She pulls away and arches her back into my hands.

Her head falls to my collarbone and I continue to rub her back. Her body it probably aching from three hours of sitting down.

"Maya, quickly take a bath then I will rub your back before you sleep" I whisper and kiss the top of her head.

"Ok. Thank you for my bath. It looks amazing" she lifts her head and kisses me again.

This time I can feel the appreciation in her kiss. It's much more deeper and passionate. But just as her tongue starts to roam my lips for entrance I smile and pull away.

"Maya stop" I giggle and kiss her a few more times just to show I don't really want to stop. "Call me if you need anything ok?"

"Ok" she smiles and leaves me with another quick peck.

I make my way out the bathroom and close the door to give her some privacy.

After I made her some pasta, I also made her some tea. I learned that she likes tea before bed, it helps her sleep and tonight she is going to need it. I can tell she is stressed about this test. I know she is the top student in the school and she already basically passed without writing the test but she wants to end on a good note.

I make my way up to my room. I open the door and find her sitting under the covers with her eyes on her phone. When she hears me she immediately puts it down and smiles at me. "You made me some tea?" I smile shyly as I hand her the tray with a bowl of pasta and place the mug on the bedside.

"I did" I smile and kiss her seeking lips with a soft kiss. "How was your bath?"

"Amazing as always." she grins.

"I am glad. I am quickly going to hop in the shower. You eat so long and find us a movie to watch."

"Thank you for the food baby, it looks delicious."

"I disagree but if you say so" I joke and she chuckles a bit.

"I will be right back ok" I say and kiss her softly again before going in the bathroom for a quick shower.

Halfway through the movie, which was actually very interesting, Maya to no surprise at all, fell asleep. I didn't mind though, she was so tired and warn out from this past week's exams.

I quietly switched off the tv and moved both our bodies down onto our pillows. She used my body as a pillow for the movie but I knew she would have a stiff neck tomorrow morning if I let her sleep like that the whole night.

Just as I pull the cover up over her shoulders she stirs a bit and opens her eyes. "Is the movie done?"

I can't help but smile at her confusing and rub my hand over her cheek, gently pushing her head back down on the pillow. "Yes baby it's done but go back to sleep"

She didn't even reply, she just moved her body closer to mine and wrapped herself onto me. She instantly fell asleep again and I couldn't be more happy than this.

Since we've come back from Spain I have been dreading the nighfall because the last few weeks I had to sleep alone. I didn't sleep much but I missed her. I would lay awake every night just listening to her calm breathing and her resting heart rate. Having her in my arms is what makes me happy and I miss it.

Sure I see her on the weekends like this but two nights isn't enough for me. I just wish her fucking exams would end so I can be with her anytime I want. She still has school after the exams but it's nothing to serious. I wouldn't be a distraction to her then.

Two more weeks to go, just two more awful weeks.

"Alex. Please don't let me fall" Maya says for the 50th time since we left the kitchen. She has a blindfold on for her surprise and she still doesn't trust me.

After everything we've been through.

"Maya relax, I am not going to let you fall. We are almost there" I convince her.

We step out through the front door and down the few steps till we hit the driveway.

"Ok you ready?" I whisper in her ear while wrapping my arms around her waist from behind.

"Yes, but we said no presents." she whines falling back against me.

"This is for both of us" I whisper and kiss the side of her head. "Ok take it off"

And not a second later the blindfold comes off and she gasps at the sight. The car I gave her, the one that she beat to a pulp was standing in the driveway, looking even better than before.

"You fixed it?" she squeals in excitement.

"Yeah" I smile like an idiot in love. Well I am in love and I may look like an idiot now but my girl is happy and that makes me happy.

She runs to the car and hugs the bonnet with a few kisses. "I am sorry for hitting you with a golf club buddy."

After saying sorry to the metal object on four wheels she finally decided to run and jump in my arms. "Thank you baby"

"Happy anniversary Maya" I whisper into her neck.

"Happy anniversary" she slightly yells. She lifts her face to look at me. I just keep her in the air and I can tell by the way her legs wrap tighter around me, she is not eager to be put down.

"Now you can drive me around again." she chuckles and leans down to give me a sweet kiss.

"I will take you anywhere you want to go sweetheart."

Her smile grows wider at the pet name and a tint of blush spreads through her cheeks.

Fuck I love this girl.

Two weeks later

Today Maya is done with her exams. Today she is coming over for the whole weekend and she doesn't have to study. She is probably going to sleep but that is ok. I will be right next to her. I miss her so much.

I think this week was the worst one yet. Whenever I went over for a quick cuddle she kept stressing and went for her books again. We didn't spend much time together at all. But I am not mad at her, I understand.

But she is done. My girl is done and this weekend I am keeping her locked in my room and cuddling her till she can't breathe.

I grab my things and head out to my car, wait it's her car, no wait it's our car now.

I am going to buy her some flowers and junk food for tonight's movie session. I know she has been craving these things for weeks but she followed a strict diet.

Something she learned from her mother. At first I was pissed off but it actually helped her. She needed to eat healthy to stay focused.

I drive down the road, music blasting in my ears. Today is going to be a fantastic day and I can't wait to see her.

But then is changes.

About a mile down the road I see a group of vampires blocking my way. I have never seen them in town or anywhere in fact.

I frown at the sight and lower my speed as I get closer. I stop my car about thirty meters away from them and sit and stare at them. There are four men and two women. They look really smug, even from where I am sitting.

I am not in the mood for whatever this is.

I fix my hair and get out the car as elegantly like you've never seen before.

"This isn't really a crossing for pedestrians but I am in a good mood" I smile and lean against my car door.

A guy with dark brown hair steps forward with smirk on his face.

Don't smirk baby, you don't get to do that with me.

"So it is true?" he laughs and looks quite satisfied with this so called discovery he has made.

"Yes. I am this hot in real life" I smile.

"Oh Alex. Your confidence never cease to amaze me. But it's not going to help you today." now he laughs.

A bit confused I stand up straight and take a few seconds to gathering my thoughts. Just before I could say anything he talks again and all five of them start walking towards me.

I feel kind of intimidated actually. I don't like this situation at the moment.

"See a little birdie told me that you have finally found your mate. Congratulations" he smiles and takes a small bow.

"But" he looks up with an even bigger sly grin on his face. "I saw her today and she is truly a gorgeous girl. What was interesting though." he pauses and looks up at the sky. "she isn't marked yet and we all know what that means."

I stay quiet because I do know what that means.He knows I am weak, I haven't drank human blood in almost 6 months.

"All that precious sweet blood-"

"If you fucking touched her. I swear this will be the last day you see." I hiss at him.

"Woah now. I didn't touch your precious girl. I am not interested in hurting her. I am here for you my princess." he takes another bow. They are all about ten meters away from me now.

"What do you want?" I ask coldly, glaring at him.

"It's simple. I want your high and mighty father to change the law. And what better way to persuade him than to take his precious daughter. Maybe he will take my threats seriously now."

I know exactly what they want, they want to feed on anyone. There has been a few vampires who always come to my dad and ask him to change the law but he would never do that. He will always protect the humans.

"He would never do that."

"Let's find out" he tilts his head and I can see the rage in his eyes.

I can easily take these five people without breaking a sweat. But not today and not alone.

Marcelo I need you brother.

I see their fangs come out and they all hiss at me.

Fuck.

Maya's POV

Putting down my pen and closing my answer sheet, I let a big deep breath go. Probably a breath I have been holding for the last three weeks.

I am done with my highschool exams.

Just a few more weeks then I can leave this place.

The bell rings and I hand in my last exam paper to my teacher. I feel really good about this one though. Maybe I just feel good in general because this was my last one? On a Friday? I have a weekend to do whatever I want? Alex is picking me up from school?

Ok maybe it's more than just feeling good about the test.

I walk down the hallway. I don't even bother to grab any books for the weekend. I am not doing anything this weekend.

"Hey cupcake. How was it?" Lily asks hooking her arm into mine as we walk towards the doors.

"It was good. How about you?"

"Uhh I'll pass" she shrugs. She doesn't care about her grades at all.

"So is tonight the night?" she smiles and wiggles her eyebrows at me.

"Lily stop" I laugh. "We aren't planning it"

I wish we did.

We come to the parking lot and my eyes scan the whole area for my gorgeous girlfriend and that beautiful car.

"Well I hope it happens cupcake." she gives me a kiss on the cheek.

I don't even respond to her comment or her gesture because I don't see Alex. She is supposed to be here. "Do you see Alex somewhere?"

Lily then looks around with me but we come up short. "Maybe she is just running late"

"Yeah maybe. Let me call her" I say and immediately dial her number.

It rings and rings but no answer.

Alex Woods you better have a good excuse. I dial her number again.

No luck.

"I am going to kill her"

"Let's just go to my house. Maybe she forgot that we get out early today. She will come get you at my house." Lily smiles and pulls me towards her car.

I give in and get in the car. What a way to kill my mood. She forgot about me.

We arrive at Lily's house and I throw my bag on the floor and fall down on my bed with breath of relief but in the back of my mind I am still mad.

Alex promised me a night full of cuddles and pampering. I miss her. Where is she?

I try to call her again for the fifteenth time since we got in the car, but nothing.

What the hell is she doing? Is she cheating on me? Is this the actual reason that she didn't want to come over during the last few weeks? She didn't want to distract me, maybe that was the whole point. I was busy studying and she finally had the time to screw around.

She wouldn't do that, would she?

Well let me go surprise her then.

"Lily I am taking your car!" I yell as I run down the stairs.

"Ok, go kick her ass cupcake. Or at least try" she laughs at the end but she knows I am upset so she doesn't even stop me.

I grab her keys and head out the door.

Alex Woods you better be alone in your room, sleeping. Or taking a really long shower. I will strangle you.

"Aarrgghh" I groan out and hit the steering wheel.

A few minutes later I arrive at her house. I get out and slam the door extra loud so she knows I am pissed.

I don't even bother knocking because the door is slightly open but my eyes fall on a bloody handprint on the door and I immediately freeze in my steps. What the hell is that?

I take a few deep breaths and slowly open the door. My jaw drops and I find myself holding my breath in a loud gasp.

There is blood on the floor, more handprints and smeared blood on one side of the wall. I slowly take a few steps inside. I reach the dining table and everything is knocked over. Drops of blood are spread out on the carpet and more blood on the couch.

I feel the tears running down my face in fear. Did Alex do this? Is she busy killing someone? Did she kill someone already? She would never? She is not allowed to?

"Aaahhh fuck!" I hear a voice scream out and I almost faint.

That is Alex.

"Alex?" I walk further into the house.

I turn a corner just and I reach bottom of the steps but almost faint again as I bump into Marcelo. My eyes scan over his body because he is full of blood.

"Maya. Shit. Maya you can't be here right now." he pants and tries to push me towards the door.

"No" I stop and pull from his grip. "What is going on? Where is Alex!?" I yell at him.

"Maya" he pauses and takes a deep breath. "Alex is hurt"

And just like that my heart stops, my breathing stops and my eyes widen in shock. This is Alex's blood. What the hell.

"Where is she?" I ask and turn around, already heading back in the direction he came from.

"Maya wait. She doesn't want you to see her like this" he grabs a hold of me.

"No Marcelo!" I yank away again. "I want to see her now!" I yell.

He runs his hands through his hair and sighs.

"Aahhhhh!" I hear her yell again and I immediately make my way into the direction I think she is.

I come to a door and almost kick it open. Marcelo didn't even try to stop me but as I look inside I realise why he tried.

On a big table, covered in blood, holes and bruises all over her body is Alex screaming in pain.

Mr Woods looks up at me and his eyes go wide. He is also covered in blood and his hands are inside Alex's one leg.

I stand there is total shock, not being able to move an inch. I don't know what to do.

"Alex" I find the only word to escape my mouth in a whisper and she immediately turns her head to me.

"No Maya. Please get out of here!" she yells and her tone brings me back to earth. "You can't see this please!" she cries out with blood coming from her mouth.

I have never seen Alex like this. She is crying and her whole body is shaking in pain. Just seeing her like this makes me nauseas.

But without thinking twice about it I take the couple of steps closer to her.

"No Maya please." she tries to push me away but I grab her hand not even worried about the blood on my hands.

Alex is hurt, she needs me.

"I am not going anywhere" I stutter out and hold her hand tighter. I look up at Mr Woods and he gives me a quick nod before he goes back to work.

Alex yells out in pain and I blink the tears away to actually look at her body. It's like she was attacked by an animal. Almost ripped to pieces. How is that possible? She is the most powerful being on the planet. Did someone torture her? Is there some kind of special tool they use to kill vampires? But she can't die?

"Maya please look away" Alex cries looking at me. Her face is bruised up and full of blood. I can barely make out her face.

"Alex!" I yell back at her. "I am not going anywhere. Stop chasing me away!"

I don't know where that came from but suddenly I realize what is happening. Mr Woods is stressed and that makes me stressed. It's almost as if she can die if he doesn't help her.

I start to panic and switch my eyes between Alex and her father. Marcelo is still at the door just staring at her. Why isn't he helping?

I feel my heart start to race. She can't die. No, I need her. She is my soul mate. I can't live without her.

She keeps yelling in pain and I don't know what to do. I feel so useless. "Baby please calm down." I find myself saying. I don't think that will help at all but I had to say something.

Her grip tightens around my hand and I almost scream out in pain but I bite down on my lips trying to hold out.

"One more Alex. Hold on!" her father yells. One more of what? Hold on? What does that mean? She can die?

One loud scream from Alex sends shock waves through my body. My heart breaks for her. She is in so much pain. And I don't know what to do.

Suddenly Alex meets my eyes and her scrambling body becomes still. The grip on my hand becomes lose and her eyes start to close.

"No, no, no, no!" I yell. "Alex, stay awake" I tap her cheek. "Alex!"

I look at Mr Woods and he wipes his forehead and takes a deep breath. What does that mean?

"Mr Woods no, don't stop!" I yell at him. "Alex!" I cry back to her. I cup her face and tap her cheek multiple times.

"Alex! No, no, no, no, no you can't die. I need you." I cry in panic.

Everybody just stares at me but my eyes are on Alex. I know she is dead but her body is lifeless in my hands.

"Don't you dare die on me!" I yell. "I need you."

"Maya stop!" I feel Marcelo wrap his arms around me.

"No!" I yell in cries as he pulls me away from her body.

"Maya stop. We need to wait." he holds my shoulders. "She needs to heal"

"Why is she fucking hurt in the first place? I thought-" I pause and look at her limp body on the table. Suddenly I can't find any words.

I just cry.
