Chapter 8

[Letter #5: February 7, 2020]

Dear Dalhwan,

I'm surprised that your letter came in so quickly. I thought it'd take some more time. Still, I'm glad that it's here, in my safe hands.

First of all, I'd like to thank you. Not only for just offering to give me some advice, but also for giving me hope. After losing my job, I thought I'd already lose my mind, as well, since I need to look for a new job as soon as possible. Bills don't pay by themselves, you know?

Changing subject, last night I went to a party. It was a blast, though I wasn't sure about it at first, since many people I'd rather avoid showed up.

First of all, there's this girl named Si Chaeyoung, whose habit of constantly showing up unannounced even when her presence is not appreciated has been getting on my nerves for a while. Last night was no exception, of course! I had to come up with several excuses to avoid talking to her, but it didn't work.

Not only did I run out of made-up little stories to keep her away, but I also bumped into her purely by chance only to drop my punch on her dress. The weirdest part, anyway, is that she didn't even throw a tantrum! Anyone else in her shoes would have yelled a thousand profanities at me and called me names.

And, no, she wasn't the worst person I bumped into last night. You should know that the host, Hoo Jaehyun, has a sister, Heeji, who is a total gossip. She said that she suspected that I tried to hook up with him even though it wasn't true.

First of all, he's not my type. Secondly, he has a girlfriend, Ahn Yesol. One of the most self-entitled and disrespectful girls I've ever met since school years. Based exclusively on Heeji's hurtful gossip, she started turning my life into Hell, before she ultimately told me to stay away from her and Jaehyun or else she'd turn my life into hell.

Needless to say, I didn't bother paying attention to her and went on partying with my friends. Her reaction when she saw me still on the dancefloor was priceless. She attempted to throw kimchi leftovers at me, but I dodged them. When she tried to strut towards me, she stepped on kimchi, slipped and fell on the floor. Everyone was laughing at her, all while I was thinking that she had some comeuppance for how she treated the other guests.

Before I close this letter, I've got a question for you: do you like parties? When was the last one you took part in?

Please let me know, okay?

Cheers,
Wi Hyejeong
