It had been three weeks since Katherine and Jack had been married . They were not at all close but weren't as awkward around each other .

"I'm off to work ... I'll see you tonight " Jack said and kissed her cheek .

"Goodbye " she said and kissed his . That was all they did . They had laid together one other time than there wedding night but none of them enjoyed it .

Katherine got a call from her mother asking if Clara could come over and learn how to clean a whole house like a wife .

"I'll have you know that the day before Tuesday we did ... I didn't like it nor did he but we did " Katherine said folding the throw blanket over the bed .

"Cleaning his painter's apron and cleaning up ... He keeps this place a mess ... I usually let it slide yet I do clean it every Thursday " Katherine said and then used the sink in the room to wash some paint brushes .

"Katherine? What's this ?" Clara asked picking up a paper .

"I don't know ... Probably a receipt for a portrait he did " Katherine said and washed the paint off the window .

"Katherine... You're gonna wanna see this... This is a receipt but not for a painting " Clara said handing her the paper .

Katherine grabbed the papers from her apron and placed them on the table .

"Here .... We don't have napkins because I didn't have any money for the market "

"That's okay ... What ? Where did you get these ?" Jack asked .

"While I was cleaning ... Why did you buy these ? And why did you only but one of each ? Why did you ?" Katherine asked placing her hands on her hips .

"And you bought a boat ticket the day after our wedding ? While you where at work ? And also a train ticket when you came home early ... And yesterday ! The day after we laid together !" Katherine yelled .

"You were going to leave your wife ... Who may or may not be pregnant !" Katherine yelled and stomped upstairs to their bedroom.
