Chapter 4

Atathum opened his eyes to find himself on the large, half-moon couch. He propped himself up, but the sun coming in from the window blinded him, so nothing else was visible.

"Someone's finally awake," Luminara exclaimed.

Atathum rubbed his eyes as he sat up and pushed himself into a standing position. He walked over to his master.

"Should I get ready?" Atathum asked.

"Yeah, I told the council you would arrive late." Luminara replied.

"Late?"

"Yeah. You slept like a baby, and I wasn't going to wake you up after all that happened last night."

"What time is it...?"

"09:23."

"I'm completely late!"

"No, it's fine, remember?"

"Yeah... but I'll still get ready."

Luminara shook her head, smiling. Atathum ran into his room and grabbed his everyday clothes out of his severely damaged closet. He sat down as he slid his shiny boots on, and clipped on both of his lightsabers. He walked out of his room wearing his Jedi robes, and used the force to grab his cloak.

"Hey, Atathum," Luminara called as Atathum walked towards the door. He turned around. "I'm taking you today, since there is a council meeting," Luminara said.

Atathum nodded and sat down on the couch as he waited for Lumiara to grab her saber and cloak. He put his cloak on and lifted up his hood to block out the sun. He looked down at his bruised hands from last night, reminded on why he had them. He looked up at the window, recalling the moments before he fell asleep.

"Atathum," Luminara called, "Let's go."

Atathum stood up and followed Luminara out of the living quarters. Not by any stretch of the imagination was he ready to go to the Jedi Academy, after last night at least. They walked outside on the balcony. The speeder was there, waiting for them. Atathum leapt over the wall and Luminara did the same on the other side. She started and they sped off towards the Jedi Academy. The two were silent until Luminara spoke up.

"Atathum," Luminara began.

"Hmm?" Athathum replied turning his head towards his master.

"Yoda wants to speak with you when we get there."

"About what?" Atathum slightly sat up as he stared at his master, "Did you tell him?"

"Atathum, that is slightly disrespectful."

"Did. You. Tell. Him?"

"No."

Atathum sank back in his seat as he sighed in relief.

"You know, I wouldn't be shocked if he knew," Gül said, popping up behind Atathum.

Atathum slightly jumped in his seat when Gül showed up.

"Atathum, are you alright? You seemed like you were startled," Luminara asked.

"Looks like she can't hear me," Gül replied.

"Yeah, I'm alright," Atathum responded.

Luminara turned her head, unsure that Atathum's answer was completely true. Atathum looked out to the right, and Gül was floating along, like he was actually sitting in an addition to the speeder. Gül turned towards Atathum. Atathum glared at him.

"Oh, do you not like it that I'm still with you?" Gül flew closer to him, "Well, my bad!"

Atathum glared at Gül again. Leave me be. Atathum thought.

Gül grinned as he disappeared. Atathum sighed as Gül was no longer there.

"We're here," Luminara announced.

The speeder parked alongside a few other speeders. Atathum leapt up and and walked towards the entryway. Luminara followed close behind. Atathum watched as Luminara gradually caught up. Walking in the entryway, Atathum watched as all these other padawans stopped to turn and look at him and Luminara. He froze.

"Keep walking," Luminara said to Atathum through the force.

Atathum walked through the staring crowd. "What's he doing so late?" he heard a few people ask. "Some Jedi!" others said. Atathum panicked as he thought that they were unintentionally trying to aggravate him. He just looked straight ahead to not concentrate on people's voices.

He watched as Luminara seemed to note that this was their turn, and Atathum turned to the left. Walking into the Jedi Council's room was slightly intimidating, since every single Jedi Master was there.

"Welcome, young Duskrider," Mace Windu greeted.

"Thank you, Master Windu," Atathum responded, bowing in respect.

"Sit down, Master Undili. Talk with your padawan, we will," Yoda said.

Luminara did exactly as Yoda instructed her to do. Atathum walked slowly into the center of the room.

"Young Duskrider, disturbance I felt in you last night. Problem, there is?" Yoda asked.

Atathum paused. He didn't know if should tell the Jedi Masters all about Gül. He saw that on every single one of their faces was anticipation; even Luminara had that look! If he told them about Gül, they might give him counselling, or they might kick him off for having an evil being; on the other hand, if he didn't tell them about Gül, Gül would gradually become a part of him but the council would keep him as a Jedi.

"I was having a nightmare last night, and I kept hearing voices, but that was about it," Atathum finally replied.

Yoda gave him a look of suspicion. "Very well, then. Luminara, stand by your padawan, will you?" Yoda said.

Luminara stood from her seat and stood besides Atathum.

"If anything like this happens to either of you again, please contact immediately, but privately me."

"We will, Master," Luminara replied.

"Will do Master," Atathum responded.

Atathum bowed to the Masters and walked out the door. He kept his head down as he walked past all of the padawans once more. He only lifted his to see where he had to sit in class. After about two hours of doing that, he sat down on the ground as young padawans walked up and trained against the fighting bot.

"Good work, Ephron!" the teacher applauded. The young boy bowed and walked back to his spot.

"Atathum!" a voice whispered at him.

He turned behind. Lilak was motioning for him to sit by her. He quickly ran over.

"Yeah?" Atathum whispered back, sitting down next to Lilak.

"What was that about?" Lilak asked, also whispering.

"What was what?"

"Going into the Jedi's council room."

"It was just a stability check."

"Seriously?"

"Uh..."

Atathum clamped his mouth shut as he thought on what to tell Lilak.

"Lilak!" the teacher announced, "You're up!"

Lilak stood up and walked over to the center of the room. A new bot walked up as well, prepared to fight against his new opponent. Atathum looked down at his bruised wrists. Man! Gül must've enjoyed watching me suffer! Atathum thought.

"Yeah, I did," Gül exclaimed.

This time, Atathum didn't seem to flinch. Hi, Gül.

"Hey Atathum, I was just wondering on how you were doing." Gül said.

Perfectly fine until you showed up.

"Ha! That's hilarious!"

Yeah, it is.

"You know, I should really tell you what you've been storing up in the back of your head!"

No thank you!

"But it's important, so I'm telling you. That Skywalker kid, you know, the chosen one? He shouldn't really be the chosen one. I mean, he can't even do a Force Whirlwind! You are clearly not understanding your true potential! You are so much stronger than he is. You should just eliminate him and become the most powerful...the most feared!"

"Atathum! You're up!" the teacher proclaimed.

Atathum ignored Gül as he walked up to stand in the center. The bot--that had never been defeated--walked up to greet Atathum. Atathum grabbed both of his sabers and ignited them. The droid ignited his as well; it was a double bladed lightsaber.

"Go!" the teacher exclaimed.

The droid instantly went straight at Atathum, and he blocked in return. He then used his other lightsaber and swung it the bot, who blocked it. Atathum leapt over the droid to attack from behind and landed silently. The droid looked around for Atathum, almost like it was confused. Atathum swung his lightsaber, and the droid turned around just in time to defend himself from Atathum's blade. Atathum used his other blade to get the droid from the bottom.

"Now, Atathum, use your anger to strike him down!" Gül instructed.

No.

"Yes."

NO.

"Believe me, you want to."

NO!

Atathum saw Gül standing in front of him. With all the rage inside of him, Atathum swung both lightsabers at Gül. Suddenly, Gül was gone, and the undefeated droid was laying destroyed at his feet, defeated. Atathum's eyes widened, and turned towards the teacher. His eyes were wide, too, but with fear. Atathum looked at the whole group, and noticed everyone seemed to be afraid of him. He turned off both of his lightsabers as he ran out of the room. He ran down the hallway, and almost knocked over a potted plant and a padawan. This can't be happening! I...I didn't use my anger against the droid, I just managed to defeat the undefeatable, long-lasting, droid. Atathum thought, worriedly.

"Atathum?" a master asked as Atathum ran past her.

He wasn't going to stop until he had gotten far away from people, and he wanted to get rid of his mind. He turned to the left to continue running, but he ran into someone, or something, he was running too fast to identify. Suddenly, he was held back by a firm grip.

"Young Duskrider!" a voice arose from behind him.

Uh, oh.

"I think you should pay attention to where you are walking. You could've fallen off the edge of the temple."

Atathum's eyes adjusted to the slow moving world. Sure enough, he was on the edge of the temple grounds. He turned around to face the master he thought it was: Master Obi-wan.

"Sorry, master," Atathum apologized, "I'll pay attention next time."

"What was it that made you run so fast?"

Atathum sighed in fear. He didn't know what to say.

"I...Um...I..." Atathum stuttered.

"If you don't want to tell me, that's fine; some Jedi things need to be kept to themselves."

Atathum nodded his head, slightly nervous. Obi-wan put his hand on Atathum's shoulder.

"Atathum, I want you to know that you are a bright kid, and I don't think you should change the way you are," Obi-wan said.

"Thank you, Obi-wan," Atathum replied.

Obi-wan smiled and walked away. Suddenly, Obi-wan appeared to have been stabbed through the stomach by a blade of some sort. Atathum gasped as he watched Obi-wan fall to the floor, dead. He clamped his hand over his mouth in shock, but removed it as he noticed something amiss. There was a wiggling illusion walking off.

"Man that was too easy!" Gül exclaimed showing up in front of Obi-wan's corpse.

"What did you do to Obi-wan?" Atathum asked.

"Nothing, he's actually quite alright. You see, he is actually an illusion of your mind, but, this will become him when you actually let me help you!" Gül kicked the corpse.

Atathum looked back at Obi-wan's corpse, than Gül, than back at Obi-wan.

"No," Atahum whispered, backing up, "this won't happen, I, I won't let it!"

"But you'll be the cause of it," Gül replied moving slightly closer to Atathum.

Atathum shook his head as he kept his eyes on Obi-wan. "You will never succeed, Gül."

"Oh, but I will," Gül stopped, "and by the way-"

Atathum felt his foot fall out from underneath him. He completely forgot about being outside of the Jedi temple. He grabbed the edge of the temple floor and banged his chin on the ledge. He tried to pull himself up, but the quick jerk caused his arms to suddenly let go of the ledge.

"Watch your step," Gül's voice rang in his mind as he fell hundreds of feet.

Atathum watched the temple grounds grow smaller and smaller, knowing what awaited at the bottom. His body flipped to face the ground. It was coming in fast. Oh dear. Atathum thought.

"Sorry, Master," Atathum whispered to himself.

His body did another flip and faced towards the sky.

"I'm sorry that I failed you, Master."

Atathum hit the ground with a thud.
