Chapter 4: Prosperous Jedi Life.

The days had seemed to become much more frantic as the month leading up towards Life day, but probably not as awful as it was for the Republic and it's citizens. The holidays were taken very seriously as it was very important to uphold even Life day considering it teached everyone across all species that life was very abundant even in times of war, disease, and famine.

The 'Cold War' as it was officially declared was happening all around them and Megrybo, and Jaelynne were both reminded of the utter havoc the Sith Empire had caused during the Great Galactic War. It was fortunate that Life day was still celebrated by many within their Galaxy, for times like these people needed to have fun and spend time with their families.

Both Jaelynne and Megrybo had not much planned for Life day, other than being with each other for the holiday. The two respectfully knew that neither had no family left too go towards for the holiday, besides Megrybo's brother of course. That however was unacceptable and impossible due to his brothers position as a Sith, so they were both back to square one of being there for each other mainly.

Megrybo was still conflicted by the very mentioning or thought of his family with each day that passed by. While he knew that the sacking of Coruscant had ultimately torn their family apart for nearly decades now, he was trying his hardest too at least keep touch with his brother who was the only bit of family he had left. Their mother had perished on the Republic Capital during the sacking as both Megrybo, and now Jaelynne knew very well. His father on the other hand, there was no word on what happened to him, but there was little doubt about what could have happened to him as well.

The last that was ever heard of Xinthiss Skylighter was that he disappeared somewhere in the outer-rim regions, but was never too be deemed alive or dead. How he got to the outer-rim was still beyond Meg as he, and Tage had taken their fathers ship 'The Phoenix' and escaped Coruscant during the sacking. The very fate of the families most prized possession was unknown as well since it went missing after Megrybo was picked up and brought to the order on Tython. It angered him too know that he sadly let their father's prized ship go missing, but was melded down when the priorities of the order became his new life. That and one particular person became more or less all he could ever think about, and Jaelynne was lucky too be that person.

It was this fact that Jaelynne knew too well as she knew both her and Megrybo's love was already more out of control, and bloomed than either of them could handle. This was something that made them further it by living together early on, but neither of them minded what sort of out look appearance that would give. While it was in fact Jaelynne's new home, she 'insisted' that Megrybo lived with her, but after that little persuasion and the loneliness he felt not doing so he caved in and agreed to her.

T7 also seemed happy as much as Jaelynne when he agreed to this proposal, and made it noticeable by showing his happiness to Megrybo as he settled in. They all seemed to be much more happy considering all that was happening around them, but who could blame them? They needed a break for the moment.

The Jedi life during the peacetime was not much of what either of them expected, but they both knew it was better than what happened to many of their fellows during the prior war. They were both determined however too ensure that they would serve the Order, the Republic, and the Guardian's with all their might...even if it killed them.

For now though they were both lucky to even have this time away from everything so that they could both rest, and just spend time together. Something however was urging at Megrybo for the past few weeks too do something for Jaelynne, but nothing had come up other than getting her a gift, and or being their for her on Life Day. That was the problem though, he had no idea what kind of gift that he would present to Jaelynne of all people. He had many ideas and some of them he knew she would love, but none of them really made him think that they were perfect for such an occasion.

This little issue continued too bug him considering he knew her probably better than anyone else. It bit at him that he couldn't think of something too give her for Life Day, and it would continue to bother him if he didn't think of something too do. Fortunately however at the time, Jaelynne was unsure of what too give Megrybo for Life day as well...so it seemed that both of them were in mutual agreement and frustration in what to get their partner.

Finally however Megrybo had thought of something that he believed would be special for Jaelynne considering that he had been thinking about doing this for so long as well. They had known each other for several years now, and by then neither of them regretted the love that they had and shared together now. It was because of this commitment and dedication too each other that spurred him too think about doing something that his father did in his youth, Marriage.

Meg had been planning this for probably a few months by now, but never really thought it would be coming into fruition as he was afraid she would most likely say no. Though he thought now he may as well grow a pair, and pop the question to the love of his life and get it over with it. If she said no it wouldn't change anything between them, and he was determined about that. Megrybo had his hopes however that she would say yes however, but he had too prepare before he did so which in itself would take time.

He could only hope with a high esteem of pride that she would not be deterred from this proposal he had been planning for so long, but he was determined too see it through to the end. At least that would be noticeable by Jaelynne.

******

The plan seemed much more simple than Meg had thought it would be originally, but it was already too late by the time he had any doubts about doing this. It was also brought to the attention of T7 who at the time was a bit weary of his decision, but in the end was happy to help in anyway he could. This somewhat pleased Meg as he was happy to have some help in getting this little plan done, but it was evident too Jaelynne by the first few weeks leading up that she was being let out of something.

Jaelynne was known too be a very smart woman, keen, and downright stubborn too know if she was being kept in the dark, or was being lead into something. It was something that Meg loved about her and he doubted anyone would ever get that, but it was in fact one of the many reasons he did love her. She was much more different than most women that Meg had ever met, but it was something he was grateful for in the end as she wasn't bat shit crazy either.

He had known too many people like that already, well he did know people like that. Thinking back he remembered just how much a crazy person his father was spoken to be, and that fact didn't surprise him at all. Meg knew quite fondly the type of company his father had kept during the time he was growing up, but they weren't for say bad company just not the kind anyone in his family would have expected. How his mother ever put up with his father's antics was still in question to this day, but he was certain it was because she just loved him more than she cared for his faults.

That was something that made the two senior Skylighter's stand out when it came to their years of prime, but that was a long time ago as well. Their family was considered much respected by many, but were also targeted by few within the Empire that was mostly thanks to Meg, and Tage's father, Xinthiss. Though even with all this considered 'fame' the two parent's made sure everything was right for their sons, and their friends around them. They seemed more perfect than even Megrybo could count.

Yet here he was trying and hoping the same would happen between him, and the woman that he loved so dearly. It was also evident that T7 was also happy to see them becoming married, but was understandable confused by the situation when it was brought up to the small astromech by Megrybo.

The plan in question was fairly simple, but he knew that by pure desperation he didn't want too wait until Life day too ask the question. So this idea was going into play a week sooner than he or he assumed Jaelynne would have liked, but he planned to do so after the two had begun their week of leave from their Jedi duties. When that part was finished he would wait for when she would come home and prepare in the meantime for it, but was understandably nervous as he planned to do so on the balcony he knew she loved from time to time. Meg wanted to ensure that this would go perfectly as possible, but was more or less unsure if this idea would even come close to being a success. He had only a pleading hope too hang on to.

However the day had finally came when the two had returned from their brief assignment to Alderaan. Their assignment was something that they had gotten used too really as partners, and mostly as Jedi since their duties during the time of peace was too mediate all means of potential conflict. This was evident when a meeting between the royal houses on Alderaan was underway by the time they arrived, but it was clear that they would not be the only ones trying to keep the peace during the mission.

Several members of the Guardian's were called upon by House Organa to maintain the peace upon the sudden meeting, but they were specific when the request mentioned for Grand Master Melvas to join alongside them. This may have been surprising at first for them too request him of all people, and then for him to accept it, but it was actually much more simple than one could realize. The Grand Master had come from a lineage of nobles from Alderaan, and prior to the deaths of his mother and father the Skybolt house was a respected friend of House Organa. It made perfect sense too include their oldest ally to assist them in this matter.

While the meeting was rather dull and meaningful for the houses, it was apparent that this meeting was staged by many of the Houses in a desperate attempt too stop the ongoing Civil war that was plaguing the planet each day. The Houses of Organa, Teral, Alde, Panteer, Thul, Girad, Cortess, Killesa, Ulgo, and Rist had gathered many of their emissaries too speak on their behalf and some were unsurprisingly shocked too see that there was Jedi guarding the meeting.

The meeting had went well in their talks of trying to end the civil war,  until the mentioning of who should be instilled with the right of King. Then all hell broke loose as many of the different emissaries in the meeting seemed too be throwing around insults, opinions, and their own sides of what happened to the former crown prince, Gaul Panteer. It was obvious however that Boris Ulgo was not relenting in his attempts of declaring himself the new King of Alderaan and forcing the other houses into submission, but it was an under sight that would be handled sooner than later.

Their meeting did not end peacefully as many of them had been hoping as several soldiers from the Ulgo house had arrived to disperse the meeting, and in turn arrest anyone who did not comply. What ensued was a short and brief battle that left the different houses even more bitter when their emissaries had returned too share the shaken news, but one thing was certain and that was the fact that the other houses had a common enemy to focus on now, House Ulgo.

Sadly neither Megrybo and Jaelynne would be around too see what would be happening after the fact, but that was because their leave was suddenly approved by Melvas himself who stated that the matter was something he and several others had too deal with alone. While it was shocking to hear the Grand Master say this, it was much more reliving for both of them as they needed the time away from action for even a bit of time.

Even more so for Megrybo who was seemingly happy to be finally putting his plan into motion, as he had been trying to keep it secret from Jaelynne for a while now. Though even that was a challenge as she would constantly question him if something was bothering him, but he knew had himself too blame there. She knew him far too well, better than anyone he had too admit.

Though now was the day for it too finally happen, and he would ensure it would be completed too the letter. Even if it was hopeless.

Megrybo waited until Jaelynne returned from her journey to the markets to get more things for the apartment, but that was mostly because they were running low on things, and two T7 was the one too tell her about it. This little thing was questionable to Jael as it was usually Meg who went out and got the things that they would eat, drink, or just need in general. Yet she was contempt to go just this once in case Meg was busy with something, so it gave him even more time to prepare.

While Jaelynne was gone he decided that he would cook for the both of them for the night and got busy getting it all ready. While most of the time he would allow Jaelynne too cook mostly, Meg actually was a decent cook unlike his mechanic skills, he had his mother and surprisingly his father too thank for that. However for today Meg figured that for today he would make something not too brash as he knew he would be making their favorites on Life Day. While he knew he would be making those for Life day, he was unsure of what too make for today as he knew that if it was something splendid it would give Jaelynne even more suspicion.

Thankfully one thought did eventually come up as he remembered one such dinner that his mother had adored much when he was growing up. The food in question was a certain type of stew that was commonly served on Coruscant, but was a stew that contained noodles that looked like grassworms. While considered strange, the meal was actually much better than one would expect as it was mostly comprised of the noodle stew, and several other ingredients of plants with the most noticeable being, Buckwheat.

Megrybo had only thought about this meal because he knew this would be something that Jaelynne would not be suspicious about, and would most likely fall in love with. Though that was a cautious decision as the only one who ever cooked this stew was his father, and shockingly not his mother. While it was shocking that their mother wouldn't make this it was much more simple than that, and it was the fact that their father was a better cook than anyone they knew. That little detail was a secret they all kept to themselves as Xinthiss Skylighter was a prideful man who seemed hesitant and terrified if that fact got out in their youth, but it never did.

So while this stew probably wouldn't taste as good as his fathers did, he would try his hardest to replicate what he could and ensure it made Jaelynne feel even more special for the day. The process for the stew on the other hand did not take long too make, and was finally done by the time Jaelynne had returned home from her time in the market.

The two seemed to be normal as they ate their dinner and talked, laughed, and reflected on everything that had been going on for the day. T7 on the other hand was patiently waiting for them for finish so that he could prepare whatever was left, so Meg would be able to conduct what he had been scheming for so long now.

When they did finish they decided to help T7 clean up and afterword's continued to talk and chat about everything that was, and wasn't going on around them. Yet even though they were sitting on the balcony that overlooked the city. Jaelynne had an anxious feeling as she felt a nervousness wash over Meg at random points, this was rather concerning to her because usually he was never nervous around her. Yet, here it was showing and for what?

"Meg, is something troubling you?" She asked kindly at first with a mild amount of concern lingering in her sentence.

Meg's breathing stopped for a moment as he realized that he had once again let his nervous get the better of him, but he couldn't help to smile at how smart Jael truly was. If he had thought that before there was a stopping point, well now was far too late. With a heavy sigh he breathed one last time before he turned towards her.

"Jael-um." Meg said uncomfortably, but had managed to grab a hold of the little ring that he had gotten. This was one of the many things that Satele Shan had given him upon his arrival on Tython all those years ago, but when questioned of what it was he was responded with. "It was a gift I gave you're mother before she became a knight, she gave it back, and now I give it to you so you may gave it to someone you choose." At least that's what Satele had said before returning to her cold demeanor.

"What?" Jael asked clearly confused and very concerned for Meg as he seemed to be much more nervous than before, this was worrying her to death.

Her question would be answered rather quickly as Meg had decided that then was the best time to make the move. With some hesitation he moved from the seat that they both were on, and stood in front of her. He chuckled slightly at her confusion, but felt more than saw the surprise she was feeling as he knelt down too one knee. With little hesitation then, Meg held out his hand with the ring still in it and allowed her to bask at it before simply saying.

"Jaelynne Isis, will you marry me?" He asked as it felt like a wave of nervousness was finally leaving him as he asked her this simply question, but he soon felt another presence. That was the wave of shock, and surprise that masked Jaelynne not to mention that her eye's had widened too unprecedented levels.

"M-Meg, I-I." She stammered clearly taken aback by what he was proposing here, but she was also angry at herself for not knowing what he was doing. Hell who could have known he would be doing this?

"It's a simple yes, maybe, or no question Jael." Meg chuckled as she saw that her embarrassment and shock were dwindling for a few seconds. Although while she was pondering this, Meg was writhing hoping that she would say what he was hoping.

"I-I don't know Meg, there's so much that could go wrong with that isn't there?" Jael stated quite concerned about this predicament, but instead of letting himself get destroyed by her not saying yes, Meg decided to answer her calmly.

"Sure, but I have been thinking about doing this for a while now, besides I wouldn't imagine nothing else than doing this." He said with clear conviction, as a way to make her understand that he was serious about this.

"You really want to marry me more than anything, even being a Jedi?" Jael questioned as she knew very well that being a Jedi was Meg's dream for so long, but knew well that is was both of their dreams for so long as well, which is why she was having a difficult time to think.

"If it comes to that, I'd leave it to stay with you." Meg said with little hesitation and with little care in his voice, and stature. It was clear to Jael however that he was more serious about this than ever, and that made her happy.

"G-Give me time to think about this, It's not a no by any means, but I need sometime to think, okay?" She said calmly and somberly as to soothe her reasoning for not saying yes, but she knew that she would hurt Meg for not saying it.

Jaelynne would be right about that. While he was hurt a little that she didn't say yes, he also didn't let it bother him as she probably wouldn't say no. It was comforting for him really. Though rather than stay there in that awkward mess, Meg decided to agree to giving her time to think before leaving the balcony too help T7 with whatever he was doing.

He needed his own time to think about what he just did.

******

Time had passed since that day and things within the residence was more awkward than either of them had probably wanted. While Jaelynne was clearly trying to think about this very important decision. Meg would try too allow her to have her own time to think and allow her to do whatever she needed to do, but the most awkward part of it was when the two would go to bed.

While the first few days were much of the same after the event, they both decided to do whatever they could too prepare for Life day as it was fastly approaching. However while T7, and Megrybo were usually staying at home during their leave from work, Jaelynne had taken a time to go to the fleet to see if there was anything of worth there.

When she did return hours later, the two noticed something strange about her whenever she would start to get busy at home. Jael would occasionally go mute, would disappear to think, or would just want to be left alone as she was clearly disturbed by something. While T7 tried to learn what that was, he was kindly turned down by Jaelynne who simply replied.

"Thank you T7, but this is something I need to think about on my own." Jael would reply calmly and sweetly to her little droid. T7 on the other hand would beep happily before returning to his duties around the house, but also knew that Meg was being wiser when it came to trying to figure out what was wrong with Jaelynne.

While he didn't directly ask her, he knew better than anyone that she would come out and tell him at a later point, so he would continue doing his own duties around the property as he could. Though he couldn't help too wonder and worry if she was regretting him asking her to marry him, it made him somewhat sullen a little.

This continued up until Life day came around. Though both T7, and Megrybo were shocked when Jael said she was going out to help someone, and would be back later. With a solemn wave, and goodbye from the two she left to go meet with this mystery person. However while T7 was concerned about how Jaelynne could be hurt from some stranger, Meg was otherwise less worried as he knew Jaelynne could handle herself and if someone did hurt her. Well then he would bring hell upon those who did it.

Megrybo decided not to let it worry him and quickly went to work on getting everything set up for their home for Life day. T7 was also at work too help them get the place somewhat decorated as best as he could, while Megrybo cooked for both he, and Jael for tonight. As promised however he would be cooking both their favorites for tonight. For Meg he would be cooking Nerf stakes for both to eat, and for Jaelynne he was making dantooine flapjacks as he knew she loved them more than anything.

It was a task cooking both of these foods at once, and at times he had too have T7 bring him different things he needed just too keep up, but while the little astromech was a great help he desperately needed an extra hand for this. Thankfully however after the fiasco that was the cooking of these two foods, the two decided to begin cleaning up around the kitchen before Jaelynne came home. That and both food's would take time too cook naturally.

After a few hours had passed by, Meg had felt Jaelynne's familiar presence before the two had even heard the lift doors open. T7 had left to greet her and bring her to the table that Meg was setting for them, but was clearly being oblivious to the sheer amount of emotion that was coming from Jaelynne as she was coming closer.

Jaelynne was seemingly somber and in deep thought as she walked into the living room of the apartment, but it was evident that she had been doing some deep thinking for sometime now. Whatever happened with that mystery person had made Jael consider things, and while she was dealing with this new problem she had already come up with an answer for the first thing she was being plagued with.

When Meg turned to face her, he would be surprised when he felt her slam against him as if though she jumped into his arms. In a clear amount of shock Meg looked down at Jaelynne who seemingly seemed much more calm in his embrace.

"Yes.." He heard come from her lips, and naturally he was confused.

"Yes to what?" Meg asked as he stared down at the love of his life, but when Jael looked up at him, he saw the bright smile that he loved so much from her.

"Yes, I'll marry you." She said happily before sinking her head back into his chest, but soon she laughed as she was lifted from her feet and spun around by Megrybo who was more happy than anything she had ever seen.

Though she laughed even more when she heard T7 beeping happily and spinning frequently in his place near them, but was very happy for his two masters.

"What spurred this answer?" Meg asked as he finally stopped his antics, but it was clear that he wanted to know what influenced her too say this answer.

"Because after realizing several things, It would be wrong not too. Not stop asking me why I said yes, accept that I said it, and just kiss me." She said demandably and snappily much to the surprise of Meg, and T7. Though she smiled again when Meg agreed and did just that ensuring that with that kiss he would make it clear to her that he was so happy with this news.

Though she already knew that she wouldn't regret this decision either, and none of them were going to argue after that.
