Chapter 17: The Dark sides pull.
Things had become more quiet as the last of Dominus' fleet was destroyed. It also seemed that the Guardian's along with their allies had left the system. The question to the currently changed Megrybo, was why? The Immortal Guardian had the perfect opportunity to engage the Dauntless in battle, but yet they did not and instead they fled from the system. Perhaps his new found appearance and temporary allegiance had stunned them, or shocked them to the core. None the less what done was done, and now he had to either decide on going after them or stay put for the time being.
At the moment he felt rather delirious as the darkness within him continued to pull and tug at every end of his being. It was becoming a struggle for him to even maintain any form of who he was, but that one part was still fighting against it. He knew why as that small part of him he was desperately trying to fight the darkness for Jaelynne. The task was becoming tedious and pointless however. Every time he did try to resist it felt as if though he was being stabbed multiple times from different directions. His attempts seemed to continue however, and it was in despite of the constant agony he faced.
Eventually he relented from everything going on and decided to leave the bridge. While the crew were somewhat relieved they also understood not to express their concerns, it was a wise move on their behave. Meg was going to go rest either way, and even if they did try to stop him, none would be successful. He purposely left one of the officers on board the bridge in command however, and thankfully the cowering man accepted his new role in a heartbeat. The officer also knew what would happen to him if he failed even the smallest of orders and ensured his new boss that he wouldn't fail him. To that they would see, Meg supposed.
Meg entered the former chamber of Darth Dominus, and was rather surprised by what he found inside given just the things he had learned about the sith. The room was a vibrant red with small linings of gold, and torquese lingering in most of the lighting, furniture, and the walls. It would appear that Dominus had a distinctive kink for how this room would look. However he most certainly wouldn't be caring about how the ship nor how this room looked now. That much was made obvious to all now.
The room was also infested by a severe amount of what Meg could determine was trophies and artifacts that Dominus had possibly collected over the years. He noticed the heads of a zakkeg, talz, nexu, and an acklay. The following objects in the room were a series of holocrons, paintings, and crystals that made up the bulk of the artifacts lingering. It all seemed insufferable to Meg who nearly wanted to puke every time he looked at an object to either his left, or right. Thankfully there was a bed in the cabin, along with a desk and a holo table which he assumed that Dominus would have used to answer anyone from.
The Dauntless seemed to be far more extravagant for a warship, but that just further determined just who Dominus truly was. Worse of all was this room, as it shone as the clear example of how arrogant and stereotypical the sith lord truly had been. Now however that man's wretched existence was gone and for good as well. Although his ship would remain in this sense, but under the command of a new master. For good this time, Meg figured in his blind state of constant agony.
He decided finally after several minutes of lingering around the room that he would try and get some much needed sleep. Something that he needed more now than ever considering the lack of it for the betterment of the last few weeks. So that was what he did, and rather enjoyed it for some time. Until the small beeping and whirring came from the holo table across from the bed. Which indicated that someone was trying to contact him. Meg sighed as he rose from the bed and approached the terminal; activating it only moments later and to be soon met by the hologram of the officer he had left in charge on the bridge.
"Sir there is someone wishing to come aboard, one Darth Thectage I believe it was?" The officer spoke in a snobbish but cowardly tone as he sputtered at times while giving his report. He was a spitting image of an Imperial officer.
"Of course he's here." Meg muttered to himself. The true question of the matter was why out of all people was Tage here? Perhaps he was here to try and calm down Meg, or perhaps he was here to encourage this new source of energy that Megrybo had found. No one could really tell until they spoke he figured. He turned back to the terminal and spoke, "Permit him a place to land in one of the hangars, and I will meet him personally."
"Of course, Sir." The officer said squeamishly as he stumbled to back away from Megrybo. Who was understandably angry with whoever this man coming on board was. Almost the entire crew were affected as the same way the officer had been when they saw Megrybo come barreling down the hallway or corridors. It was clear that by expression and movement alone that the man was clearly livid upon hearing the news.
Meg was clearly still very upset and angry over his torture and suffering at the hands of Tage, but clearly was too blinded at the moment to realize that he was completely wrong in fact. Either way it didn't really save his brother by the time he did enter the hangar.
Tage had barely exited his ship before his brother laid into him, or rather was nearly strangled by his older brother. Who at that clear moment was very angry.
"Give me one reason not to rip your own heart out right now." Meg gritted out as he slowly lifted his brother off of the ground. It was clear from that moment that he was clearly off the rails.
"L-Listen! I know your upset about everything that happened, but I had nothing to do with any of it!" Tage managed to spit out in the end.
"I find that hard to believe considering the situations involved." Meg stated before his grip on Tage's throat tightened. He was clear that he had a murderous intent at that given moment.
Tage was aware of this, and was equally as quick to react to it, "I'm telling you the truth! I killed the hunter who knocked you out, and soon after you were stolen when you were in transit to the man I was helping with this."
That seemed to get his brothers attention however, and after a moment the grip on his throat seemed to lessen. However it was clear that Meg still did not believe him. Who could blame him really, considering that it was in fact, Tage he was dealing with.
"Who exactly might that be?" Meg finally asked as his grip continued to lessen, but was still prominent enough to the point that if he pushed, he would have easily crushed Tage's windpipe.
Their 'moment' was interrupted in the end. When a lone figure appeared from his brothers starship. After a first glance at the man accompanying Tage, it was evident that he was in fact...familiar. The man in question was much taller than both of the brothers, but wasn't by a much majority. His hair was a strange resemblance as it looked very close in terms of thickness and color as that of Jaelynne's, and his eyes? They were the same dark brown as he had seen before in the eyes of his dearly beloved.
He no longer needed to know of just who this man was. That was because he now fully understood who it was.
"Nixxon." Meg uttered as he suddenly dropped his brother to the ground. It was clear that the older man's mere presence here was important. Especially where Jael was concerned considering her relationship with her father.
"Correct." Nixxon replied. Though he refrained any further from speaking as he had his own dilemma from merely just staring at Megrybo. Whether it was because he personally knew someone of importance to the boys, or was familiar with them both. Neither of them would ever figure that out as long as Nixxon made sure of it. The only thing he could make sure of was that he could help these boys as best as he could, for not his sake, but for his best friend's sake. For his brother's sake.
However this anger, this rage was something that Nixxon himself had only ever witnessed once. It was a day that left an almost unavoidable mark on him forever, and constantly left nightmares within him. He had done rather cruel, and terrible things throughout the years as a Sith, but nothing even the death of his children's mother would ever compare to that day. The day that he would never speak of openly, and the day he believed that he possibly murdered the only person he still had left from the younger years of his life.
Looking at his gloved right hand. Nixxon was fixated in helping the clearly deranged brother standing in front of him, but he also knew that in the end it would benefit them all.
"Despite your clear lack of restraint at the moment, I will be blunt." Nixxon started, but quickly picked back up after Meg seemed to listen, "Tage never meant for you to be tortured, neither did I, but of course he lost you mid transit due to one of my rivals fetching you down."
Meg seemed to be cautious while even talking to Nixxon in the first place. It was a smart move really, as they all knew that the Sith Lord wasn't one to be trifled with. Not that he would harm either of them really, but they certainly wouldn't, and didn't know that.
"What exactly do you want from me?" Meg finally asked getting straight to the point, which surprised Nixxon in the end.
"What I promised to do years ago and have been trying to do ever since then. To reunite with my daughters in full." Nixxon remarked calmly. Although it was evident after he spoke that Meg clearly knew why they wanted him specifically. He was being used to get Jaelynne back into Nixxon's fold. As if though that would ever work. Though it did sound like a decent plan considering Meg's current status anyway.
"Knowing Jaelynne she will never go back to you willingly." Meg replied. His tone was much colder than both Nixxon and Tage would have thought in that given moment. It seemed that almost an entirely different person was standing and talking before them, but only one of them in the room had already seen this side once before. A very long time ago in fact.
"You are correct on that. Which is why we needed you." Nixxon paused and looked pointedly towards Tage. Who at the moment was still recovering, and after a few more seconds of coughing and clutching his throat. He stood, and approached the two men.
"Yes, that was what I intended to get you for." Tage remarked and pointed towards his currently irritate older brother. He continued to rub his neck for a moment before replying, "What we agreed to was for Nixxon's sake, and mine. We would get you and use you as either bait or our hopes were to get you to turn, and seeing as how you've turned into this. I say we succeeded in one thing."
Meg crossed his arms defiantly and chuckled darkly, "If losing your precious item is considered success than you might need to recheck your standards, Tage."
Tage seemed to be beckon down after that, but it was mostly due to the look Nixxon had given him when he did try to retaliate. It was evident that he was the little man in this conversation right now.
"Now that you are here, we wish for you to help us. In the end I believe it will benefit all of us, and you will get your beloved back, and I will finally have my daughter to return to me." By this time Nixxon began pacing as he spoke, as it was more of a means to calm himself. He knew now that only by plactating Megrybo was the only way to get through to him. This rage and anger was something he had only seen once, and even then he only could barely contain it. That was one thing about the Sith Lord however, he knew just how to talk his way through a situation.
That situation is question had actually been made easier now that Megrybo was now embracing the Dark side. He figured considering how madly in love his daughter was with the man in front of him, she would come after him. If she did she would not only be meeting her beloved, but her father and Tage too. At least that's what they hoped, and for the moment it seemed that some portion of Meg was still hanging on to getting her back to him. It was almost as if though the Dark sides persona was obsessing over it now. The situation was perfect for them.
However neither both Tage, and Nixxon were prepared for the response they had received from Meg. Who was now clearly very gone.
"Where do I start?"
******
It took time after their meeting for Megrybo to get comfortable with what he was doing next. Not because he had instantly been redeemed to the light, but because he had to get used to the overly cramped shuttle that he was currently in. Truly by the time he would arrive at his destination, it wouldn't faze him any longer.
He was sure by now that he had gone completely off the deep end. How couldn't he be if he even agreed to what Nixxon and Tage had asked of him? The Dark side was polluting him, and it was clear that both Nixxon and Tage wanted to exploit that to it's best interests.
The plan itself was erratic, and was possibly at the most chaotic. Although it did seem like it would work as Meg believed that if he involved himself somehow, Jaelynne would come running after. In theory it would work, at least that's what they hoped, but it was all down to what Meg could do in order to draw her or their friends out. That plan itself included a Republic station on Alderaan, as one he knew that their order were already close to the planet, and an attack on one of the outposts would alert practically anyone.
Upon approaching the surface of Alderaan, he made sure to land his shuttle someplace far way from the Imperial Territory and somewhat close to the Republic Territory. Stepping out of the shuttle as the ramp opened, he took a look around at his surrounding's. This planet brought back many memories, but at the moment those such things would do him no good. He knew somewhere near here was a Republic outpost who were always under attack by the native's the kil'liks, if he wanted to start somewhere that was the place.
"If there was anywhere to start, that is definitely the place to begin." He said to himself drolly. With little thought afterwards, he decided to jump from the ridge he had landed on. When his feet touched the ground, and he got a bearing of his surroundings. Meg was surprised to see that their was a farm under the ridge he had just jumped from. A farm that with luck would have a speeder, and a speeder is what he needed to get to the outpost. Considering it was still a ways away from there.
Upon approaching the nearby farmhouse. Meg heard what sounded like a shout, and then a yell when he saw what looked like an angry farmer who was not at all happy with his presence there. While Meg wouldn't usually do anything so callus, this was a rare exception as the former part of him had all but been tucked away by the current dark side corruption within him. Within seconds of the farmer nearly reaching him, Meg lifted him up off the ground and snapped the man's neck before he could even react to anything.
Meg merely stared at the lifeless corpse of the farmer, before he approached the speeder near the barn. It seemed to be in working order, and with just a few moments of pressing a few buttons, the speeder came to life. Almost as soon as it did however, Meg decided to take off with it. Finally in search of the one outpost he knew that would possibly gain the most attention on this planet.
Outpost Zimanji was his ultimate goal. While it was rather far from House Organa or from any of the other Republic outposts, it was still significant enough to the point that it was worthy to be targeted. Mostly due to the fact that it was considered to be the Republic's forward operating station, and their line of defense against the kil'liks. Although they were considered 'primitive' the kil'liks were more than a match for even the Empire or the Republic, and that was due to the sheer mass of how many of them there were. To many, it was unknown why these aliens were so adamant in driving everyone off the planet, but the most common theory was that they were the first species on Alderaan or had some ancestral claim to the planet. In the kil'liks' minds they were defending their homes against invaders.
All that mattered little in his mind at the moment however, and really he would be doing them a favor. That was a thought he smiled evilly on. Eventually he did arrive at the outpost, and just as usual the outpost was under attack. The kil'liks were giving all they had this time around, and to Meg's fortune it seemed the Republic defenders were too distracted with their opponents to even question most things that could go on. It was truly perfect for what he needed done.
Unfortunately his hope for going unnoticed was in fact cut short. As one lone soldier who was rushing to their barricades noticed the lone man approaching their outpost. Granted the soldier was afraid for a reason, but went as far as to raise his voice and his weapon at the man stating, "You! Stop! Who are you?!"
Meg stopped in his tracks as he watched the soldier seem to become anxious. In a surprising turn of events he managed to keep his dark side influence down, but it was obvious that whatever it was, was keeping the true Meg at bay in the back of his mind. Stepping forward, Meg raised his hands and placated with the soldier saying, ""Settle down soldier I am Jedi Master Megrybo and I am here on a matter of great importance."
The soldier seemed to relax after hearing that a Jedi was here, and after just a moment of confirming the mans identity with his superior the soldier allowed Megrybo to continue freely. In the end it seemed that Meg would get what he wanted in the end.
First he would need to find the commander of the outpost and eliminate him. With their superior out of the fight, it would more than likely lead to the soldiers becoming disorganized. If that happened than the kil'liks would have a easier time to invade the outpost, and would make Meg's task here easier. After the commander was dealt with, he would then move on to destroy the remainder of the outposts' turrets, and then to the rest of the outpost.
Meg immediately went to work, and within minutes he found the commander and silently dealt with the older man. After he went on to plant explosives at each turret around the outpost, and thankfully the kil'liks had proved to be enough of a distraction. So much so that he was able to plant all the explosives without even a single soldier questioning him.
Only one soldier did notice, but by the time he could even call out to deal with Megrybo, the soldier was already dealt with. However before any of the others could react, or deal with the sudden death of their comrade. They were surprised with the sudden chain reaction of explosions that followed after Meg tripped the detonator. Who after dealing with the soldier prior, had moved to a safe position before tripping the explosives.
Meg watched as smoke fumed from the smoldering remains of the outpost, but by now it seemed that even the kil'liks were affected. In the end neither side seemed to be victorious, except for Meg. Immediately after surveying the scene, Meg pulled out his holo projector and activated it.
"Unit five, five, three. I need you to send a message to these cordinates. Make sure it gets to those I want it to be given too." Meg said with finality. Thankfully unlike the rest of the imperial crew, the droid was much more responsive and had already begun sending the transmission.
Step one had been complete, now all he had to do was wait, and see if they would come running.
