This one is gonna be a long chapter :)

" John are you ok?"

I open my eyes to see Peggy giving me a concern look. Over the past few weeks, Mr. Hamilton has been adding more chores for me. I rarely have time to myself like I use to.

" I'm alright Peggy, just stressed."

" If you want, I could ask Mr. Hamilton to reduce your chores. I'm sure he didn't mean to give you so much to do."

I shook my head and finishing the eggs that she cooked for me for breakfast. " Peggy it's fine. I'm not letting a few extra chores bring me down."

She nods and starts walking out of the kitchen, leaving me with my thoughts. The incident of being caught reading was stuck in my mind. My deed was still a secret to everyone and I still ask for books. I haven't seen Mr. Hamilton as much as I use too, but he was fresh in my brain. An indent that seem to never fade. My daydream usually makes me fall behind on time, but I don't mind. I don't mind not going to bed until late at night because of my daydreaming. I don't mind slowly finishing chores because of my thoughts of Mr. Hamilton.  It's foolish but I don't mind one bit.

I was washing my plate when Mr. Hamilton walks through the kitchen door. I turn around and find his eyes fixed on mine. I break the eye contact to fix my skirt. " Good morning Mr. Hamilton. What would you like for breakfast?" I say. Normally Peggy makes his breakfast but she wandered off.

" Good Morning Laurens. Just make me a black coffee.."

" Yes sir." I walk to the long kitchen cabinets only to find non of the daily coffee ingredients in them. We must have ran out. " Is there a problem Laurens?" Mrs Hamilton asks. " I'm sorry sir but I think we ran out of the ingredients for today. Do you want me to tell Theo to go downtown?"

Mr. Hamilton is silent for a moment looking deep in thought. " You know what? We will go. Grab a food basket and sweater, it's getting a little cold out during this year." Mr. Hamilton walks out of the kitchen. After a few seconds Eliza comes our front the garden. "Good morning John. Did you serve Mr. Hamilton his breakfast?"

" Actually we ran out of coffee-"

" Oh! What a shame! Mr. Hamilton is very serious about his coffee. I'll tell Theo to go downtown this afternoon." She starts to hurry out of the kitchen.

" You don't have to do that Eliza. We are getting ready to go now."

Eliza freezes and slowly turns to me. " You mean you're going with Mr. Hamilton?" She says hesitantly.

I nod while getting a food basket from out the pantry. It was silent. I couldn't figure out what Eliza was expressing. " O-Oh..well alright." She quickly puts on a sharp smile and rushes out of the kitchen.

" Laurens are you ready?" I hear Mr. Hamilton yell near the front door.

" I'm coming sir!" I grab Theo's sweater. I hope she doesn't mind me borrowing it for this morning.

I walk out of the kitchen and into the living room where the front door and located. Mr. Hamilton was waiting outside talking to the carriage man ( idk what's those people are called ) Hamilton was wearing his black coat and a hat. It was a little cold today and Theodosia's small sweater didn't keep me that warm. Mr. Hamilton turns around and sees me. " I told you wear a coat. Are you cold?"

" No sir. I'll be alright."

He wasn't sure at first but nods. The carriage man steps in front of us and helps Mr. Hamilton into the carriage. I climbed up on my own assuming that I don't have the privilege for help.

The ride was silent. We didn't even look at each other. I focused my attention out the window. I have never been outside of Mr. Hamilton's house and left. Sure I would go outside to the garden but it wasn't like being in a carriage and seeing trees pass by. It wasn't like seeing other people's houses and wonder about their life.

Since Mr. Hamilton live practically in the middle of nowhere, it took us a while to get to town. I felt suddenly excited to explore the well know busy streets of New York City. The site of seeing other people walk around frantically wearing that latest fashion made me want to be like them. Then I remember who I now am. I'm a servant. A slave. I don't get to be busy the way other men are. I had to get use to my place in society.

The carriage slowly stops. The carriage man steps off the front and opens Mr. Hamilton's door. I let myself out from the other side. I almost fall over due to how high the carriage was from the ground.
" You know, he was going to help you down Laurens." Mr. Hamilton says while walking towards me. " Oh!" I felt embarrassed. " I'm sorry sir. I just assumed helped wasn't available to me." I try to shake the embarrassment away and seem unbothered.
" Ah, just because I own you Laurens doesn't mean you don't deserve respect."
I was going to respond but he turns around and walks towards the market. I walk behind him, looking around. The site of New York amazed me. So much was happening all at once. I didn't feel much out of place since I saw many other slaves walking around. They seemed to be doing errands. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going so I bumped into Mr. Hamilton's back. He turned around annoyed but his face quickly turned to concern.
" Are you alright Laurens?"
I fix Theodosia's sweater and nod with my head down. " I'm sorry sir."
" From the looks of it, you haven't been downtown before, is that correct?"

" Yes sir."
Mr. Hamilton smiles. " No wonder you were all happy when we got here."

My heart flutters. Was he watching me?
He continues. " New York City is amazing. I try to come down here and visit whenever I can."
I walk a little faster to catch up with him. " Sir, may I ask, why don't you live downtown?"
He sighs. " Much of my political enemies live around here. All these eyes on me. Not much privacy. So I paid people to build my house a little more on the outside New York."
I nod. " What do you do for the government?"
" Treasury secretary and I help the President with a few other things."

" Wow. That's such a powerful position." I say impressed.

" That book I gave you, how is it going?"

I smile confidently. " I finished a few days ago. I'm sorry but after witnesses that resolution I want to kick the author sweetly in the head."

Mr. Hamilton laughs. " My gosh Laurens. I thought of doing the same thing when I read it. But you have to admit the style he wrote-"

Mr. Hamilton ranted until we reached the market place. I liked how he talked. I liked Howe be chose this words before speaking. I like how confident he was with everything he says, like it's a fact. Hundreds of food stands covered the large streets. As we made our way to a stand that sells bread, I kept feeling a pair of eyes on me. I brushed off the feeling, hoping that it was just nerves.

From stand to stand I felt the eyes stare into me more. I looked around but only saw the busy street. Mr. Hamilton seems to see me look around and started to look around too.

" I-I think I wanna-" I started.

" We can go home if you-"

Just like that...Eliza made her way into my view.

Heeey. I really want to post this on thanksgiving but I really want to take my time since so much was happening. I hope y'all enjoyed.
