Chapter 4: Treasure and Problems
That evening the group decided to investigate Alasdair's story. They had wanted to start at the MacGregor village but they found it deserted, aside from the bodies of soldiers, and some charred ruins. Disappointed and not knowing where to head next they to Rob. He told them all his friends were dead except for two. Their names were David and Fergus Colquhoun. Sadly, he did not know where and what they were up to since the massacre. He did however make a request of them.
"Since I am here 'till I get well, could you please find my treasure? My Athair left it for me when he died a few months ago. I have never had a chance to look for it."

David and Fergus were galloping through the woods when they came upon an old decrepit barn. They had intend to stop there to rest when they heard voices.
"It is a treasure worth thousands, my Athair said"
Another voice spoke. "Did he tell you where it was located?"
"Yes Johnnie. It is located on Ben Lomond between two thistle plants my Athair and Máthair planted when they were wee ones. Athair said something about a glenn that was covered in heather."
David looked at Fergus with a start but then grinned evilly. He recognized the speaker as Chief Alasdair MacGregor, his old friend, now enemy! He knew the approximate location of this "Heather Glenn."

"Well," Johnnie said getting up. "I guess we know where the four of us are headed next. Alasdair, do ye ken if there is a map?
"Yes, I want to thank you all again, Johnnie, Merida, and Douglas, for continually coming up hereto take care of me. Risking your lives time and time again, day after day. And now to ask this..." His voice broke off into quiet sobs and he trailed off.
Merida put her arm around Chief Alasdair. Even though he was older than them by quite a few years they all looked at him a a friend they had known for a long time."Alasdair," She said. "Don't cry. We've been happy to help you.If you want to repay us you can do that by getting well."
"Aye." Douglas agreed. "Now we should get moving."
Alasdair gave the three teens the map he had kept hidden in his shirt. They looked at it incredulously. They had been expecting a whole map, and an easy quest to find his treasure. Now they would have to find the other half of the map and the treasure! Noticing Alasdair had fallen asleep they crept out of the barn and headed in the direction of his house.

When they arrived, they found that someone had been digging around the area. Shovels and pickaxes were littered around the dirt floor where the house once stood. This was not a good sign. Johnnie worried that who ever was doing this has already found the map. Merida worried that the thugs were still in the area. Douglas was worried that they may come back and suggested that they post a look out. None of them voiced their concerns aloud but picked up the shovels and started poking around. Maybe, just maybe, they would still find the map before the other people found it.

Fergus and David crept up to the house. They heard laughter and shovels ringing against the hard dirt. David motioned for Fergus to stop. This was their chance to stop the meddling kids from helping Alasdair. Earlier, they had seen the teens coming out of the woods and had seen them carrying food and clothing. The teens were always in the MacGregor house area so David Colquhoun had put two and two together and figured they were helping Alasdair, although, they had no proof. David called in a loud voice for them to stop.

Johnnie, Merida, and Douglas turned in the direction of the voice and froze. Standing in front of them were two men. Johnnie told Merida and Douglas run.

Douglas grabbed Merida's hand and took off like a bullet. They scurried up the mountain, darting here and there to avoid pursuit. Halfway up they dared to stop and rest. Johnnie was nowhere to be seen. They had thought he had followed them up hill but now it was obvious he hadn't. Merida, looked at Douglas with tears in her eyes. Douglas moved closer to her and wrapped his arm around her in a warm hug. He told her everything would be OK. Johnnie had gotten into scrapes on the farm and had always gotten out of them alright.
Merida sighed. "You're right Douglas, but what if these people have guns? Johnnie could never outrun them then."

Johnnie scurried up the mountainside trying to get away from his pursuers. He looked up sweat dripping from his face. Fear paralyzed his body. In front of him was a mountain lion ready to pounce, behind him a few boulders away were his pursuers, guns drawn.
