Dear Reader,

This book takes place in the Highlands of Scotland in 1603. The story is loosely based on the Conflict at Glen Fruin. It was started by two MacGregors getting killed on the Colquhoun land of Luss. The MacGregors were forced to spend a night on the land of Luss. Being denied shelter that took refuge in an old outhouse and killed a sheep for food. They were found shortly after by the Colquhouns and taken to their Chief, Sir Humphrey Colquhoun of Luss. The two men were tried and sentenced to death. Wanting to avenge their clan mates,MacGregor chief Alasdair MacGregor of Glenstrae got his army of 300-400 together and led them to the land of Luss. The two sides met in the lands of Glen Fruin. The Colquhoun side was much lager and at first the MacGregor were intimidated by the sheer size of the army (600-800 men).

The MacGregors ended up winning the battle because the ground was marshy and the Colquhouns mostly has horses and the soft ground made it harder for them. The Colquhouns lost between 200-300 men. In response to the Colquhoun loss James VI of Scotland issued and edict saying that the name MacGregor was outlawed This meant that you either had to give up your name of be killed.

In my story, it is not a battle but a killing spree. Also, the MacGregors were only framed it was another clan that actually did it.The characters in my story help the Chief of the MacGregor clan, and one year later, he is caught and hanged at Mercat Cross, Edinburgh. (I only changed the story so it would be more like a mystery, and this is why I included a note to the reader.)
