Chapter Fifteen: Violets

Saihara's POV:

We were still sitting down long after the service had ended, the candles were still burning dimly as one by one guests came to give their condolences.

All the while Kokichi never once let go of my hand, which I was grateful for as it was probably the only thing that kept me from crying.

He's gone.

My Uncle was a sixty three year old man, at the age of twenty one he founded the Saihara Detective Agency in Osaka Japan, and he never once stopped working since that day.

'Do you want me to get you some water' Kokichi asked concern lining his face. I shook my head as I felt his hand slide back into my own, I felt his strength being transferred into myself and I was grateful for his presence.

When my Uncle was fifty two his younger brother by fifteen years dumped onto him his ten year old child and went to travel the world with his wife as world famous and renowned celebrities.

"I'm sorry for your loss Saihara San" someone told me, I looked up tiredly to a middle aged man with a suit.

"Thank you..." I mumbled. I wanted to go home.

"I was one of your Uncle's detectives in his branch...and well, it might seem rude for me to say this but you're a bit young to now be leading the agency, if you would consider for a reasonable sum I would like to purchase-MY WORD" He gasped as Kokichi gave him the middle finger.

God I love him.

"I have no intentions of handing over the business or selling it sir..." I told him, I wish I had more confidence...

"I intend to follow my Uncle's wishes and run the buisness myself as the new head...I've been groomed for this position my whole life..." I told him tired.

"Now if you'll excuse us..." I told him getting up for the first time as me and Kokichi walked away from the service.

Away from the photograph of my Uncle back when he was young, but still had the same smile as I remembered him for.

The outdoors showed a garden as I stopped and admired the koi pond.

My Uncle never married, or had any biological children, or even adopted any as he focused all of his efforts onto his nephew and sole heir...

Me.

"Shuichi" a voice called out, I turned around to see my Mother, her arm was locked with my Father.

My eyes widened in shock.

Some would say where he was in life wad the right time to die- that's a lie there's never a right time to die...but nonetheless he died of a heart attack. Alone in his apartment.

"How are you sweetheart?" She asked warmly, "honey hasn't it been so long since we've seen Sushi? I told you we should have canceled the Bangkok trip to see him!" She scolded.

My Father kept staring at me, his eyes seemed to burn its way into my soul as Kokichi looked at me concerned.

The time I saw my Uncle was when we were aguing.

"Mother, Father, this is my fiance. Ouma Kokichi" I introduced, Kokichi waved hello. He had plastered on a smile but his body couldn't hide all his tense emotions.

"Fiance?" My Father questioned.

My Uncle was agruing with me about Kokichi, because he cared I know. He cared more than any of our friends or family about our happiness.

"Yes" I told him trying to sound confident, "I didn't know you were gay" he said.

"I'm bisexual actually, I would have told you sooner but I wanted to do it in person." I told him.

I remember the way my Uncle would laugh over the smallest things, and how he would always be bursting with energy. How people would never believe that such an optimist like him and well an emo like me were related.

"What's that supposed to mean?" He asked, "we have invited you on multiple trips to come with us and spend time with your family but you always declined" My father rebutted.

"No, you invited me to promotional shows. I used to fall for those but you never actually spent time with me on those trips, you just lied about me to other people." I argued.

"Shuichi!" My mother gasped.

I'm starting to wonder if that's how I fell in love with Kokichi, because they shared the same warmth and aura around them and how they made even the most tedious things seem exciting. Like an adventure.

"How dare you make it seem like we don't care about you Shuichi! We came all this way just to see you and took time out our busy schedules-"

"Do you even remember how old I am?" I asked.

I only cried when I first heard what had happened, when I recieved that call about him from the hospital. How a neighbor discovered him when she intended to give him some cookies.

"You're nineteen" my Father said matter of factly, my Mother bit her lip already prepared for what was about to occur.

"I'm twenty two"

My Uncle I think only had one real regret in life. And that was the death of Shio Makinohara, a girl who he loved but never told her that.

Like me, he had to watch someone go through Hanahaki.

Kokichi grabbed my hand tighter. My parents looked at me disapproving. I took a deep breath, "you forfeited being my parents when you left me behind in Japan, when you never once came back to see me for twelve long years, when my only interaction was a sum of five postcards." I told them, their eyes widened.

His name was Shoto Saihara.

"And I'm so grateful now that you did...because of that I met my soulmate" I told them, Kokichi blushed at that, "and got to be raised by an amazing Uncle, who did a better job than you could have...so thank you...I'll send an invitation to the wedding to your assitant..." I concluded and walked away.

I will never be able to tell my Uncle, even if he was still alive how much I love him and am grateful for having him in my life.
