Part Thirteen

Party! Party! Party!

"Do we really have to go to this thing?" Artemis grunted, looking over her dress in the mirror. "I look so...stupid."

"You look beautiful." M'gann floated into the room in her own dress. "You should be happy it was semi-formal and not formal, meaning we don't have to wear those ball gowns and whatnot."

Artemis sighed. "You're right. Come on, let's go."

The two girls met up with the boys by the zeta tubes, all them heading to Gotham city. They arrived, catching a taxi to Wayne Manor.

Are we sure about this? What if you're wrong, Conner? Then we ruin a perfectly fine blooming friendship with these boys.

And if I'm not?

Then we know the identities of our four new assassin teammates.

Do we think Bruce Wayne is Batman?

Ha! As if.

If he isn't, he may be in grave danger.

What if he actually is their father? And Batman is just keeping an eye on them to make sure they don't kill Bruce Wayne?

But why would Talia send her four sons to live with Bruce Wayne in the first place?

That's what we have to find out.

I think we are getting ahead of ourselves. I think they are just normal teenagers.

You would hope that, Wally.

The taxi dropped the team off at Wayne Manor. They paid their fare, making their way to the door where they showed security the tickets Dick had given them the day before in school.

Entering the Manor, they walked to the ballroom where the party was to take place, seeing that they were some of the first to arrive. They noticed the four Wayne brothers talking with Bruce and an older gentleman.

The youngest, Damian, looked up upon their entrance. His eyes widened slightly and he turned to the twins, whispering harshly to them for a second. Jason and Dick just chuckled, high fiving each other.

I guess they made up.

I guess so. I wonder what Damian whispered to them?

None of our business.

Damn, we can be curious, you know.

We should probably go introduce ourselves to our host.

The rest of the team nodded to Kaldur's words, making their way over to the group. The family looked up, Bruce pausing his conversation to glance at his sons questioningly.

"Hello, sir, my name is Kaldur. I am a friend of Dick and Jason. Thank you for having us." Kaldur shook Bruce's outstretched hand, the rest of the team introducing themselves.

Bruce raised a brow at Wally. "Ah, so you're Wally."

What? What does that mean?!

Jason snickered and Dick elbowed him. Conner narrowed his eyes at the twins.

"Well, thank you for coming to my party and befriending my sons. If you'll excuse me, I have to go greet the rest of my guests." Bruce walked away, the team missing the pointed glance he gave Dick and Jason.

"So, this is where you live?" Wally asked, looking around the ballroom.

"No, this is where we throw parties." Jason drawled, wincing when Dick elbowed him again. "Stop doing that!"

"Stop being an ass."

"Fight me."

"You know I'll kick your ass."

"Puh-lease. I can kick your ass without using my arms." Jason rolled his eyes.

"Is that a challenge?" Dick quirked a brow.

"You know it, X-" Jason's eyes widened slightly. "-brother. I'm disowning you."

"Ouch. You wound me." Dick's eyes held a warning in them.

Conner gave a pointed look to his friends.

Nice catch there.

Everyone stood in silence for a moment, nobody sure what to do now. Then music started to play.

Bruce took the microphone that was handed to him, clearing his throat. "Thank you everyone for coming to this welcome party for my sons. I hope you have a wonderful time getting to know them."

I know Wally will.

Shut up, Artemis.

Tim looked over at Dick, noticing the slight blush on his cheeks. He quirked a brow at his brother, subtly nodding his head towards the speedster. Dick avoided his younger brother's eyes, giving Tim all the information he needed.

"Well, now that music is playing, why don't we go dance?" Jason asked, gesturing to the middle of the ballroom.

"Jason, I don't think this is the kind of event you dance at." Damian sighed. "Besides, we don't dance."

"That's no fun. And any event can be an event you dance at. All you have to do is dance." Jason smirked. "Whose with me?"

Dick turned to Wally, holding his hand out with a shrug. "Well? Care to dance?"

Wally shrugged, taking Dick's hand. "What the hell, why not?"

Get it, Wally!

Shush!

The four remaining team members watched as the trio made their way to the middle of the ballroom and began dancing to the beat of the music.

Bruce watched his two oldest, not hiding his amused grin. Tim noticed this, nudging Damian. "Look at father."

Damian looked up, glancing at Bruce. "Huh. He has more expression than just emotionally distant."

The team winced.

No wonder they turned out like they did, with Talia al Ghul raising them and then sending them to live with an emotionally distant father?

We don't know for certain that they are the assassins.

Well, let's find out.

Tim looked to the team. "Why don't we join them on the dance floor, yeah?"

"Oh, we don't da-"

"Well, I'll teach you." Tim grinned charmingly, tugging them to the dance floor. "Come along, Damian. Let's go."

They met up with the other three, joining in on the dancing.

Dick looked up and saw his younger two brothers and the rest of the team dancing. He grinned, grabbing Wally's hand and tugging him away from the group, out of the ballroom.

Wally glanced back at his friends but they were too busy with the rest of the brothers to notice his disappearance. He looked back to his entwined hand, glancing up at Dick's face. "Where are we going?"

"My room. We'll have privacy there. Father told me nobody is allowed to our private wing unless invited there, so no one should bother us." Dick smiled. "Come on!"

The duo made their way to Dick's room quietly, closing the door behind them. Dick led Wally to his bed, sitting down next to the speedster. Wally felt a blush creep up on his face. "This is a nice room. Do all your brothers have a room like this?"

"More or less, but let's not talk about them. Let's talk about us." Dick put his hand on Wally's own hand. "This may seem very forward, but my mother, who raised me, always told me to go after what you want. And, well, I want you. Well, er, what I mean to say is...I like you."

Wally's eyes widened. "R-really?"

"Really. I think you're really cute and smart, you're kind, you're funny...and I'd really like to get to know you better." Dick smiled. "So, I was wondering if you'd like to go on a date with me? Say, tomorrow? Dinner?"

Wally gulped, the heat in his cheeks growing. "Uh....y-yeah. I'd like that, a lot."

Dick's smile grew. "Sweet. I-" His phone began to ring. He pulled it out, looking down at the caller I.D. "Excuse me a moment, I have to take this."

Wally watched Dick walk into the hallway, closing the door behind him. He got up off the bed, looking around the room. It was pretty neat and organized for a sixteen year old boy, Wally had to admit. He glanced at the open closet door, curiosity getting the better of him.

Wally made his way over to it, glancing inside of it. He gasped when he saw the last thing he wanted to on the floor.

X's suit and mask.

Wally heard Dick walking back to the room and ran back to the bed, sitting back in the same place he was in, his heart racing.

Dick opened the door, smiling when he saw Wally. "Hey, we should probably get back to the party before my brothers freak out."

"Y-yeah. We wouldn't want that." Wally laughed nervously, walking out with Dick.

Dick slipped his hand into Wally's. "Why are you so nervous?"

Wally swallowed thickly "I just...I like you a lot and I don't want anything to mess it up."

Wally could've sworn he saw something akin to guilt flash across Dick's face before he smiled back. "Yeah...me neither."

The duo made their way to the dance floor once more, rejoining their friends and Dick's brothers. The team gave Wally a curious look but he subtly shook his head.

Now that he knew Dick was X, the mind link wasn't safe to communicate through around him.

He'd have to tell them back at the mountain that he accepted a date with a known assassin.

That's going to go over well.
