Part Sixteen

I'm so excited for this story and the plot of it, y'all have no idea. Anyways, I just chugged 16oz of coffee, let's see how much I can bang out.

Damian called his brothers to his room after they got back from the mission, knowing he had to tell them about what Jade told him, though it wasn't much.

Once they were all in his room, he closed the door and turned to face them. "I need to tell you three something. Its about mother."

"What is it? Is she okay?" Tim asked, sitting up from his place at Damian's desk.

"Yes, as far as I know, she is alright. She was actually the one to set up the mission today, according to Cheshire."

The three paused. "Cheshire was there?"

"Yes, she confronted me. She said that mother is close to finding out the truth. Then Cheshire warned me about the bomb before leaving." Damian looked at his older brothers. "I don't believe mother planted the bomb, however, I believe that was whoever shot at us. And I don't think that was Cheshire, either."

"No, but I think we all know who it was." Tim spoke solemnly. "Deathstroke."

Jason scoffed. "How could he possibly know we were going to be there?"

"He could've planted bombs in various places. Jade could've tipped him off. We never know who is working for him." Dick shrugged. "It could've been simple dumb luck."

His younger brothers thought about it for a moment before nodding. "However he knew, if it was him, we'll find out. But what does mother mean by finding out the truth?"

"She probably means she is close to finding out who hired Slade." Tim answered, standing up. "I wish we could contact her. I miss her."

"We all do, Tim. But she was clear, there can be no link back to her, meaning we can't contact her." Dick sighed, rubbing a hand through his hair. "If no one else has anything to say, I believe we should all go take showers because we smell."

Jason gave Dick a pointed look. "Wally knows, doesn't he?" The way he said it, it was more of a statement than a question. Dick nodded. "How are you handling it?"

"He likes me and I like him. We trust each other, so I don't think he is going to tell." Dick shrugged. "I'm handling it by trusting him."

"And you think that is a good idea?" Damian asked, raising a brow at his brother.

"Don't question me." Dick snapped. "If anyone needs me, I'll be showering. Don't need me." He walked out of the room, leaving behind his three younger brothers.

Jason rolled his eyes at Dick's behavior, mumbling about how dramatic he is. Tim narrowed his eyes after Dick, his suspicions raising a bit. Damian looked at his older two brothers, unsure of what is happening.

"Why is Dick so moody?" Damian asked before Tim and Jason could leave his room.

Tim and Jason looked at each other, unsure how much the other knew. Not willing to risk revealing anything in case they knew more than the other, they shrugged. "Who knows? Maybe getting a boyfriend does that to him."

With that, Jason and Tim left the room, leaving Damian by himself. Damian glared after his older brothers, crossing his arms over his chest. "Those three are hiding something from me, and I'm going to find out what it is." He turned to look at his desk, noticing one of the few photos from their childhood sitting on top. He smiled sadly at it. "We used to be so close, too. What happened?"

In his room, Tim was looking at his own copy of the photo, glaring at his oldest brother's face. "How could you, Dick? We were so happy..."

"How much do you know?"

Tim jumped at the sound of Jason's voice, turning to see his brother enter his room, closing and locking the door behind him. "What are you talking about?"

"Cut the bull, Tim. How much do you know about Dick's betrayal?" Jason asked again, leaning against the bed post with his arms crossed.

Tim debated lying but thought better of it. "I'm still working out the kinks, but I think I have it pretty much figured out."

"Same here." Jason sat down next to Tim. "What're your thoughts?"

Tim launched into his explanation of what he thought Dick's plan was, providing the evidence he collected along with it. Jason nodded along, listening intently. When Tim was done, he took a deep breath. "Your turn."

Jason looked up at Tim. "You took the words right out of my mouth, Tim. We're on the same page. My only question is why? How could he do this to us?"

Tim sighed. "Jay, I think he's doing it for us. In his own twisted way."

Jason scoffed, sneering at Tim. "Yeah, sure, like that makes sense."

Tim bit back his reply, knowing it was going to take a lot to convince his brother that Dick was doing this for the right reasons, he was just going about it horribly wrong. Tim looked up at Jason, gesturing to the door. "If you don't mind, I'd kind of like to be alone right now."

Jason nodded, standing up. He ruffled Tim's hair, snickering when Tim slapped his hand away. "I'm going to go shower. But we're in agreement right? This stays between us?"

"My lips are sealed."

"Good." Jason left Tim by himself once more, heading to his room to take a shower. He passed by Dick and resisted the urge to snarl an insult at him, remembering he had to play nice.

Dick didn't notice the way Jason bristled, instead walking past to his own room. He walked inside to hear his phone ringing. He picked it up, checking the collar I.D. with a groan. "I thought I told you not to call me on this number."

"And I thought we had a deal."

"We do, however, you went outside of the deal parameters today. There were innocents nearby."

"Collateral damage."

"Unacceptable." Dick snarled. "Make a mistake like that again and it will be the last thing you do."

A chuckle sounded out from the other end of the line. "Who are you to threaten me? Boy, I own you. One word from me and everyone will know your dirty little secret. And you can't have that, now can you?"

Dick grit his teeth, knowing he was caught. "Don't call this number again."

He hung up the phone, tossing it on the bed, completely unaware that his conversation was overhead by a certain younger brother, one that was holding out hope for his older brother.

And that hope was just shattered.
