[X-MEN IMAGINE]

IMAGINE BEING A MUTANT AND TRYING TO HIDE IT, AND X-MEN COMING TO ASK YOU TO JOIN THEM.

"I know you're afraid."

The words came out with a reassuring tone, and the man's blue eyes inspected your expressions. He straightened his jacket and folded his hands to his lap. He had a group of people behind him, who you knew to be mutants. Some of them didn't hide their mutation, or chose not to hide it, and that made you feel strange.

You had been taught that being a mutant is a horrible thing and it just gets you killed. So you had forced your powers to hide in order to survive. You wanted that people liked you, and not think of you as a freak. But now you were there, sitting in your living room with a group of mutants.

You didn't even know why you had let them in. Something in them felt familiar and inviting - the only people in a long time who wouldn't laugh at your powers because they were the same as you.

"I hurt people. I can't control it, I-" you choked out and swallowed, before glancing up at the group.

"You can't control it now, but we could help you." the man offered you a slight smile. "We have a school for people like you. And there have been so many who thought they would never learn to control their powers - but they did."

Silence. You didn't know what to say - whether you wanted to take the offer or stay where you were, hidden from the world. Charles knew what you were thinking even without having to read your mind, so he beckoned everyone to stand up and held a little card out for you.

"Think as long as you want - and if you decide to take up our offer, call me."

And with that, they left, leaving you watching out from the window as they got into the car and drove away. You knew you'd take the offer eventually, but you didn't know when - and would you really be ready to come out and leave your life as it was? You had friends, but you didn't know if they'd still be your friends if they knew about your powers.

But something told you that the best and truest of your friends weren't going to judge you even if you turned into a purple gorilla every new moon. And a slight smile spread on your face - taking up Charles Xavier's offer may be a bold move. If you did it, you'd change your whole life, but maybe it would be for the better.

Maybe taking that offer would be worth it.
