Chapter 14: The Soul

--Vormir--

The Guardians were the only ones who accepted that Thanos was needed to defeat the Creator. The others, not so much. So while everyone was reacting to the revival of the Mad Titan, Thanos and some helpers decided to get the Soul Stone. Strange, Gamora and Carol were Thanos's helpers.

Gamora joined because Carol told her to. But she was important. Thanos made the portal to Vormir and they met a man with a coat over his head.

"Captain Marvel? You have come here once more?" Red Skrull asked, holding his coat to stop the cold.

"With some friends." Carol sighed as Thanos, Strange and Gamora followed her.

"Well, follow me." Red Skrull led them to the top of the mountain.

The cold wind was blowing at its hardest. All they could see was a big drop and a ocean beyond it. Thanos was hesitant. He wanted the power that he deserved. Strange was unsure to what he was going to do.

"Where is the Soul Stone?" Thanos asked quickly as he took a peek at the large drop.

"You must sacrifice someone you love to retrieve the stone. That may be the reason Marvel has brought it here." Red Skrull said

Thanos and Gamora looked at Carol with sadness. But Strange was looking at her in shock. They had to kill someone that Thanos loved to get the Soul Stone and Carol dragged her into it.

"I-is..." Gamora stuttered "that why you brought me?"

"Gamora..." Strange pleaded, "don't do it. We can find another way to do this. Maybe I can-"

"No, there is no other way. The only one who can wield it without being killed is the one who killed the person he/she loved." Red Skrull explained, "It's the only way."

"Gamora," Thanos placed his hands on her shoulders as she started to weep, "Don't cry... it will be alright."

"Wait," Gamora removed his hands and walked over to Strange and Carol with her hands on her cheek, wiping off the tears. "Do not tell Quill, no matter what. If he does, he'll kill us all."

Carol and Strange nodded. Carol felt guilty to what she had done and that was dragging Gamora into this. Strange was at a lot of words. And Thanos, he felt no power at this point.

He grabbed Gamora by her hand and looked at her one more time. He remembered all the times they had together. Teaching her, training her, making her stronger. And then she asked a question.

"You can bring me back to life," She looked into Thanos, "right?"

"I will try my best, daughter." Thanos whispered into her ears, "I'm sorry I had to do this."

Without Gamora saying another word, he threw her off the ledge. Strange had a strange feeling when Gamora started her descent. They then heard a loud thud and Strange doesn't want to hear her pain anymore so he took a step back.

Suddenly a bright light appeared and Thanos was not there by the time it was over. Strange, Carol and Red Skrull was left on the mountain. Carol was already crying by the time it was over and Strange couldn't do anything besides hug her. Once she finsihed, he stepped away from her.

"Carol, this isn't right. He has gotten too much power. Power that we can't handle. I'm starting to regret bringing him back to life." Strange whispered

"Me too. We have to find a way to stop him once we finish the Creator." Carol and Strange walked up to the edge of the mountain and looked down. Carol looked away but Strange stared. "We will not be talking to Quill after this. Don't even go near to him because he will find out. Thanos as well. We have to keep ourselves pre-occupied."

"Well, we could help out some wars throughout the Galaxy." Strange suggested and Carol nodded, "That's a start."

"As long as we can keep him away from Quill." Carol said

"And to think about him," Strange said, as in the far distance he could see Thanos placing the Soul Stone in his small finger, "One more."

--Wakanda--

Steve followed T'Challa into the hotel's lobby and he brought out a wine that he had been keeping. He said that it was the right time to open, few days from certain death. Thor and Reed were discussing plans on the assault on the Creator but they had to wait for the Mind Stone.

T'Challa opened the wine which had been kept for twenty years. He poured some on his and some on Steve's. They raised their glass as they took a sip on the wine.

"So, what did you do with Ronin?" Steve asked as he tasted the wine. It tasted good and he let the taste into every section of his mouth.

"Placed him in prison," T'Challa looked outside and admired the beautiful plants, "where he should be. You know, it's hard to think about your country up in flames."

"It's hard so you have to fight for its right and for its freedom. Just like what I did back in the 40's."

"Tell me, Captain. What was your group with Bucky called in World War II?" T'Challa asked as he took another sip of the wine.

Steve chuckled when he tried to remember, "The Howling Commandos."

"Sounds like a good idea for a unit." T'Challa smiled and thought of a name for Bucky, "Why won't we call Barnes the White Wolf. Sounds more badass than Bucky."

"I have to ask him about it." Steve said, getting out of his chair. He excused himself as went to the elevator.

All he could think about was Wanda. Wanda. Wanda. It was always in his head, not because he was obsessed but he was scared for her. She had a baby in her stomach in the middle of the end of the world. To be exact, it's his fourth end of the world. One from New York, one from Sokovia, one in Space and currently with Thanos and the Creator.

Strange has been very concerned with the situation with Thanos. He thinks he's dangerous when they had it under control. He was scared to enter the hallway because everyone knew he was involved in resurrecting Thanos. But when the door opened, no one was there. He sighed in relief and walked to his room. He suddenly got a wrong feeling.

When he opened the door, Wanda was looking at him in the eyes. She wasn't baby face but she had the eyes of the devil. She wanted to kill him.

"When I joined Thanos..." Wanda stopped for a moment and coughed, "I was scared. I didn't want to die and he gave me Pietro back. Now, I see no reason in resurrecting him."

"There is no other way, Wanda. We are not strong enough to defeat the Creator. He's stronger than every one of us combined."

"So now you're the one who's scared. I see. You don't want to die. Steve, I am confused."

"I can't let everyone die. Not everyone. We don't go out there and kill ourselves for one another. We go through it together and we come out together. We don't trade lives and Thanos is the one who can balance it."

"You're treating him like a prophet, Steve. He is a false prophet! The Avengers have just bowed down to someone playing God." Wanda sat on the bed and placed her hands on her head.

"You can't see the future. Your future is false." Steve said

"There are possibilities, right, Captain?" She quickly placed her hands in his head.

Steve was transferred into an empty planet. Nothing was there but ruins and blood. He looked at his hands, scarred and bloody. There was emptiness.

And then he went back to reality and fell to the floor. Wanda breathed heavily after seeing it as well. Steve got to his feet and looked around. He looked at his hands again but it was clean. No scratches. He looked at Wanda.

"That's not true. None of it is true!"

"You weren't even moved by it. Am I talking to Steve, or Captain America?" Wanda said, as she started crying, "Just get out."

Steve felt sadness and tried to reach Wanda with his hand, "Wanda, I'm so sor-"

"Just get out." Wanda started crying.

Steve opened the door slowly and took a glimpse at her, one last time. He didn't know what to do or what was next. He slowly walked to the elevator and looked back at his door. He wished he never went inside.
