Chapter Four: The Ghost of Christmas Present

Loki was left alone and exhausted in his bed-chamber. And thus he remained until the nearby clock began to strike the hour. Two o'clock now. Loki knew that the second of the ghosts was due to appear. Yet now, as the clock finished striking... there was nothing. Just his dark room. Until the door in front of him lit up and a large head popped out.

"Come in and know me better, man!"

This next spirit was so large and jolly. Loki walked into the room to see food enough for the Queen to have a Christmas dinner with all the royals of the world.

"Come in and know me better, man. Did I already say that?" the spirit asked

"You did. Yeah," Loki said

"I am Heimdall, the Ghost of Christmas Present. This is the night before the dawn before the day of Christmas! Did I tell you that I am Heimdall, the Ghost of Christmas Present?"

"You did. Yeah."

"Come in and know me better, man!" Heimdall chuckled

"You're a little absentminded, Spirit."

"No! I'm a large absent-minded spirit!" the two laughed a little, "My mind is filled with the here and now. And the now is Christmas!"

The two laughed again. Loki was beginning to think he would get along with this spirit.

"I don't believe I've ever met anybody like you before, sir," Loki said smiling

"Really? Over 1,800 of my brothers have come before me," Heimdall said

"1,800? Imagine the grocery bills."

The two laughed and Heimdall shrunk down to his normal size.

"Have you ever noticed that everything seems wonderful at Christmas?" Heimdall asked smiling

"Uh... In all honesty, Spirit, no. Perhaps I've never understood about Christmas," Loki said

"Before this day is done, you will understand!"

Well, bad time to be sitting at the window because Heimdall opened it while we were there, pushing us off! I've had worse falls. Loki and Heimdall went outside where everyone was celebrating Christmas.

"May I welcome you to Christmas morning!"

Everyone was enjoying today.

'It's in the singing of a street corner choir. It's going home and getting warm by the fire. It's true, wherever you find love, it feels like Christmas,' Heimdall said smiling

'A cup of kindness that we share with another. A sweet reunion with a friend or a brother. In all the places you find love, it feels like Christmas,' Heimdall and some townspeople said smiling

'It is the season of the heart, a special time of caring, the ways of love made clear.'

'It is the season of the spirit. The message, if we hear it, is make it last all year,' Heimdall and some pigeons and a cat said smiling

'It's in the giving of a gift to another. A pair of mittens that were made by your mother,' a mouse said as Loki looked into their home

'It's all the ways that we show love that feel like Christmas,' Heimdall and the mouse family said

'A part of childhood we'll always remember. It is the summer of the soul in December,' two horses and policemen said

'Yes, when you do your best for love it feels like Christmas,' a policeman and inmate said smiling

'It is the season of the heart, a special time of caring, the ways of love made clear,' Heimdall said smiling

'It is the season of the spirit. The message, if we hear it, is make it last all year,' Heimdall and the crowd sang

'It's in the singing of a street corner choir. It's going home and getting warm by the fire. It's true, wherever you find love, it feels like Christmas. It's true, wherever you find love, it feels like Christmas. It feels like Christmas. It feels like Christmas. It feels like Christmas.'

Loki finally understood the meaning of Christmas. He was feeling so happy that he asked Heimdall to take him to see family or even friends. So, he took Loki to his brothers' house. Thor was there with his wife, Jane, and some friends that he had invited for Christmas. They had some of the early Christmas traditions before the feast and now it was time for the games. They decided to play 'Yes and No'. Jane asked Thor to go first as he was good at this game.

They all started to guess but none of them were getting it right. But they were getting close. With the clues they were given, Thor was thinking of an unwanted creature normally seen in the city. Jane figured it out: It was Loki. Thor said it was and everyone laughed. Loki was a bit upset that Thor would do that. Then again, Loki had always been humiliated by his brother so it was nothing new to him. Either way, he was hurt by his brothers' actions. Heimdall took him away as there was more to see.

Loki didn't want to see anymore after that but Heimdall was persistent. He took Loki to a house on the poor side of London. Heimdall pointed to a small house they arrived at. This was Tony's house. Loki looked inside to see Pepper making the dinner, one of her sons cooking the goose, and twin girls waiting for Tony and their little brother to come home. Perhaps it was the spirit's own generous nature and his sympathy for all poor men that led them straight to the home of Loki's faithful clerk.

Loki soon heard a familiar voice approaching the house. It was Tony with their youngest son, Peter, at his side. Tony had to help Peter walk because he had an illness that was crippling him. With how little Loki pays Tony, he couldn't pay for the medicine that Peter needed to get well again. But the family just thought positive and prayed that he would get well again so they can have their son back to the way he was. Peter often forgot about his illness because he was such a positive boy. Tony and Peter arrived at their house and went in to say hello to the family.
