Games We Play

Okay these are three mini stories. No particular order. Just all related to games. Enjoy God bless you.

Sudoku

"2!"

"4!"
"4!"

"I found it first!"

"No I di-!"

"Bruce!"
"Bruce!"
"Bruce!"

Bucky, Sam, and Clint gave Bruce their best whiney faces after he forcefully took away their book.

"No. Hulk and I are sick of you guys fighting over the sudoku book. Yes, this can be a relaxing activity but you all have made it into a fighting fest," Bruce scolded them firmly. "Now I'm going to keep this for a little bit until you guy's completive spirits calms down a bit."

Bruce walked away while still clutching the book in his hands. "Nice going Sam," Clint said glaring at him.

"Me?! I got that 4 first and you know it," Sam snapped back.

"Both of you shut up. That was MY birthday present," Bucky whined.

"Yeah. That I got you," Sam said still pouting.

"Only because you had forgotten until Steve reminded you. You literally bought that in the check out line at dollar tree dude," Clint teased.

Bucky looked genuinely hurt. "Ahh. You told me they helped with memory. Not cool Sam. Not cool."

"Well, they do help strengthen the brain," Sam held up his hands defensively.

"We have gotten a little out of hand with the book. We have only had it for three weeks and we've almost finished it," Clint admitted.

"And this is not the first time it has been taken away from us," Sam said with a laugh.

"Remember when Steve took it because we were not paying attention in the meeting," Bucky smiled.

"And we would not leave the jet right away after we landed," Clint quickly reminded them.

"We were almost done with one. What's ten more seconds?" Sam asked defensively.

"It does have benefits. I've done a few puzzles to calm my mind after I wake up from nightmares," Bucky admitted.

"I'm pretty sure we all have," Bruce said walking forward. "That is why I'm going to let you guys have it back, but with rules. One, no fighting. This is a team puzzle not a competition. Two, no puzzle during meetings. Three, when its time to go, PUT IT DOWN!!! I don't care if you are writing the last number in, lives are at stake," Bruce said sternly as he set the book down in front of them.

"Okay we'll behave," Clint said agreeing.

"Yes we will," Sam said. "Even though I got that 4," he mumbled.

Bolshevik

"2 sixes." Clint said confidently. He laid down two cards face down.

Nat started him down. "Bolshevik."

"Language."

"I didn't say a bad word and my accusation stands." Nat yelled back to Steve and the stared at Clint.

"I know. I know you got me. I was almost out too" Clint muttered as he picked up the pile of cards. "Hey Peter. When did you get good at lying? None of these are aces."

"Auntie Nat has been teaching me." Peter replied proudly. Nat ruffled his hair showing how proud she was.

Steve heard all this and was curious. "What are you guys playing?"

"Bolshevik" Peter, Nat, Clint and Sam answered proudly.

"No we did not swear." Sam quickly defended themselves before Steve could say "language."

"It also can be called BS, baloney, bologna or the actual word. But we don't use that word so to not trigger you fully." Clint explained

"How do you play?" Steve asked.

"Since there appears to be no end in sight anytime soon, everyone pass in the cards and we will start over." Nat commanded.

"Okay we pass out all the card and you can see them. We the start at Ace and go up to King. You lay down how ever many of that card you have when it is your turn face down, that's important. Example: I have two aces." Peter laid down his two aces.

"Three twos" Sam said.

"So you have to say how many you are laying down?" Steve asked confused.

"Yes. You are three." Clint said.

Steve looked at his cards perplexed. "What if I don't have any threes?"

Everyone looked him dead in the eyes. "You lie. If we caught you, you have to pick up every card that is laid down." Nat said extremely seriously.

Steve got nervous as he slowly laid down a card. "One three."

"BS." Sam yelled.

"You yell any of the words as a form of accusation. Although, say you actual did laid down a three." Peter flipped over the card to find it was a three. "Holy cow, Sam it's a three. Because he accused you falsely he get the whole laid down deck. The game ends when one person has no cards left."

They played the game the rest of the afternoon and it proved to be a great exercise in lying under pressure.

Spoken Secrets

The walls were a plain, dark gray, like the soot of a chimney. There were no windows, the only light coming form a single bulb overhead.

"I'll give you one more chance to tell me everything," Steve demanded commandingly as he slammed his fist against the table. The force caused the chain of the handcuffs to rattle, followed by an eerie silence. The person across from him could no longer keep a straight face.

Then he, being Peter, laughed hysterically. "What are you doing to do Cap? You know that if you even harm one hair on my head, Aunt May will kill you. I know that you are afraid of her." Peter paused pensively. "You are also afraid of Pepper, and Auntie Nat, and the waiter down the street." Peter looked up at Steve with prying eyes. "Is that why you are still a virgin because you are scared of every woman you meet?"

Outside the interrogation room, Tony was unsure how he should react to that comment. On the one hand he wanted the information that Peter held as much as Steve did. On the other hand, that was a solid burn that he couldn't help but feel pride for his might as will be son.

Steve, with his cheeks cherry red now, started to backpedal. "Okay. Lets not get off topic here." Steve quickly said in a much less daunting tone. "Come on Pete it has literally been five hours. Can you please tell us the secrets."

Peter just smiled and laughed. "I thought you all were super spies and geniuses. Surely three high school word riddle can't be to hard for you all."

"Well they are. We give up please tell us." Clint said almost begging.

Peter just shook his head. "I was denied the information for over a year. You are not getting it out of me."

"Give us the hints again." Bucky demanded

"Okay." Peter said with a smile. "Don't think to hard for the wombat. Write everything I say for the green glass door. And color matters in black magic."

Outside the interrogation room Scott just arrived. "Hey guys. Why is Peter tied up? Did he stay out to late on patrol again?"

"No he came home with three word riddle from school. We have not been able to find the secrets and he will not tell us. We thought maybe the change in setting would help to him to tell but he has stayed firm. I'd be proud of him if I wasn't so frustrated by him." Nat commented.

"Let me try them." Scott walked in. "Tell me the riddles, Pete. I want to see how I can do."

Peter smiled knowing that if anyone would be able to think correctly to get the riddles it would be Scott. "Okay um, I'm a wombat. You're a wombat. The chair is not a wombat. Nat is not a wombat. Is Bucky a wombat?"

Scott paused. "No?"

"Correct. Again. Okay. The wall is not a wombat. The table is a wombat. Is the window a wombat?"

"No?"

"Yes it is a wombat."

"See this is what we have been dealing with for the last five hours."

Scott did not want to give up just yet. "Do it again Peter." This went on for a few more round until something dawned on Scott.

"Okay. I'm a wombat. The wall is a wombat. Is Steve a wombat?"

"Yes." Scott said confidently.

"Correct."

"I think I may have got it but go again.

Peter smiled. "Okay umm. I a-"

"No. The answer to the question is no." Scott said barely containing his excitement.

Peter laughed. "Correct. Whisper your guess in my ear."

Scott leaned over to Peter. He knew everyone was listening so he barely spoke when he whispered. But it was loud enough for Peter to hear. "That's correct Scott. You solved the wombat game."

Everyone around them just stared.

"How did tic-tac get it before us? We have been try for hours and you get it in 15 minutes?!" Sam yelled.

"He thinks like a four year old that's why." Peter yelled back confidently

Scott just shrugged. "Give me the next one Pete."

"This next game is called Green Glass Door. Congress can go through the green glass door but the house of representatives and senate can not. Banner can go through the green glass door but Hulk can't. "

Scott considered what Peter had said. "Can I go through the green glass door?"

"Scott you can but ant-man can not."

"So is it our alter ego that can't go through the door?"

Peter laughed "That is incorrect. Scarlett witch can go through the green glass door but Wanda can't." Something occurred to Peter. "Although Wanda and Pietro Maximoff could go through the green glass door."

"That doesn't make any sense." Scott said a little frustrated.

"None of this does that's very we have been trying for five hours." Bruce yelled back in response.

Peter smiled. "My advice still stands. As a matter of fact it is extremely easy if you take my tip."

"What's your tip?" Scott asked eager to get it right.

"Write down everything that can go through the green glass door. It will be obvious if you do."

Scott grabbed some paper and had Peter repeat what all could go in.
Congress
Banner
Scott
Scarlett Witch
Wanda and Pietro Maximoff

He had a theory by "Scott" but wanted to confirm it. "Does the title have anything to do with the answer?"

"Yep"

Scott quickly added
Green
Glass
Door
to his list. "You're right. It is obvious." He quickly whispered he theory  into Peter ear.

"Yep. That's right," Peter said.

"Let me see that." Nat quickly snatched the paper out of Scott's hand. "Okay that is just dumb and very obvious." Soon everyone looked at the paper and immediately knew the secret.

"Why did we not take Peter's advice earlier?" Loki asked.

"Because we were confident a simple action would not help." Tony said.

"So is that it? Is that all the puzzles?" Scott excited that he had helped get the whole team to solve one.

"No there is one more. This one is the hardest. If we play it I need Friday's help. Also can we please get out of here. These cuffs are starting to hurt my wrists." Peter said rubbing his wrists.

"Oh right, yeah sure." Steve said quickly as he unlocked Peter. They all headed up to the common room and the real challenge began.

"Okay I have already programed Friday with the secret. No you can not break her coding. I will leave the room choice an item and Friday will ask me if the item she says is the right item. I will reply yes or no. You need to figure out how I know." Peter explained.

The team choice a left over bag of popcorn  from the movie night before. They called Peter back in. "Is it the couch?" Friday asked.

Peter looked at the couch. "Nope."

"Is it capisle's shirt?"

Peter snickered as he looked over at Steve's very tight white t-shirt.  "No it's not but nice name Friday."

"Thank you Peter. Is it the tv remote?"

Peter decide to take his act a step further. He picked up the black remote with gray buttons to examine it. "No. That's not it."

"Is it the leftover popcorn bag?"

Peter picked it up to examine it. "Yes. Yes it is."

"How did you know?" Tony bursted out.

"Black magic. Want to go again?"

"Sure but this time someone is going out with you to make sure you don't cheat and you can't touch anything." Sam demanded

Peter happily agreed.

The team choose their next item. Loki went out of the room with Peter. When the team was ready they both come back in. Peter stood perfectly still in the middle of the room.

"Is it the couch cousin?" Friday asked

Peter looked at the brown couch "Nope."

"Is it the picture on the wall?"

"Nope."

"Is it Wanda's hair clip?"

Peter glanced over to see which hair clip she had in. It was a beautiful red. "Nope."

"Is it Bucky's arm?"

Bucky had his Wakanda arm on. "Nope."

"Is it Clint's iris?"

Oh how Peter wanted to just really get up in Clint's face to "check" but he couldn't in order to keep the act. "Yes it is."

That answer did no make the team happy. "Okay no talking." Tony commanded

"Then how is Friday supposed to ask me question?" Peter ask.

"She has a laser. She can point to them." Tony replied annoyed

So Peter left and came back again. Friday pointed at Steve's hair. Peter shook his head. Friday pointed at Nat's black leggings. Peter shook his head. Friday pointed at Sam's tablet. Peter nodded. Once again the team was outrage.

"Questions: does number of questions matter?" Sam asked

"No" Peter replied. "But I do need Friday."

"Can you do it blind folded?" Nat ask.

Peter quickly surveyed the room. "I think I could."

They tied a bandana around his eyes  while he was in the hall. He walked in and Friday started talking.

"Is it bosses black sabbath shirt?"

"No" Peter said with a smile knowing he had won.

"Is it the team photo?"

"Yes it is" Peter replied excitedly.

The team was dumfounded and still did not know the secret. Do you?

Seriously message me if you think you solved any or all the riddles. I also play Bolshevik a lot on missions trips. The irony is not lost on me that a Christian's favorite card game hinges on lying.

Also THANK YOU ALL FOR 500 READS!!! I know for many people that is a small number but to me it is big. Here is what my sister made me for Christmas. She is such a good artist.
