Hawkant: Love Thy Neighbor Pt.2
A/N: Non-Superhero AU.
Since Clint moved in next door, Scott had developed a sort of "routine" with the man. Every morning after Cassie gets on the bus for school, Clint would come over and have coffee with Scott on his front porch. They would talk until Clint had to go to work. After a couple weeks, Clint and Scott knew each other very well and were close.
"So, where's Cassie's mom, if you don't mind me asking." Clint said as he and Scott sat on the swing-bench on his front porch, Lucky laying by his feet.
"We divorced when Cassie was six. At first she had primary custody of Cassie, but when her husband got a job transfer and had to move a couple states away, we changed the custody agreement so that Cassie wouldn't have to switch schools." Scott explained.
"How often does Cassie get to see her mom?" Clint asked.
"She's with her mom for a month during summer and we alternate spring break, thanksgiving, and christmas." Scott replied.
"You two seem really close, I bet you miss her when she's away." Clint said, finishing off his coffee.
Clint loved it when Scott talked about his daughter, loved seeing the smile on his face. He admired what a loving father Scott was.
"She's lucky to have a dad that loves her like you do." Clint said, scooting closer to Scott on the bench.
"Are you seeing anyone right now?" he asked, touching his knee to Scott's.
"Are you trying to ask me out or something?" Scott chuckled, leaning in a bit.
"Maybe." Clint giggled lightly, kissing Scott.
Scott kissed him back, grabbing his hip. They kissed until they were interrupted by Clint's cellphone ringing.
"Hang on, this won't take long." Clint told Scott.
He steps away to answer his phone and Scott watched worriedly as the color drained from Clint's face.
"H-how did you get this number?" Clint asked the person on the other end of the call.
"Why are you calling me? What do you want!?" he demanded.
Clint grumbles nervously, dragging a hand over his face.
"Oh my f**king god, are you serious? I dumped your sorry a**, Brock. That means you leave me the h*ll alone!" Clint shouted before hanging up.
"Hey, is everything okay?" Scott asked standing up.
"No. My ex just got out of jail and he somehow got a hold of my new phone number. Now he's wanting to get back together and I don't think he's gonna take no for an answer." Clint replied.
"Well, he's in New York, right? That's all the way on the other side of the country, so there's not much he can do." Scott said laying a comforting hand on Clint's shoulder.
"Hmm, you're right. Sorry, I don't even know why I'm freaking out. Brock just gets to me sometimes." Clint sighed.
"Do you wanna talk about it?" Scott asked.
"No, not really." Clint shook his head.
"Okay, wanna go inside and play some video games, take your mind off of things." Scott suggested.
"Yeah, that sounds good." Clint nodded.
Scott lets Clint and Lucky into his house and he sets up his X-Box while Clint sat on the couch. It was Clint's day off from work, so the two of them play video games until Cassie came home from school.
"Thanks for cheering me up and all. Also, sorry my jack-a** ex interrupted something good." Clint said as Cassie came inside.
"Oh, hi, Mr. Barton." Cassie greeted.
"Hey, kid." Clint waved to Cassie as she went to the kitchen table to do her homework.
"See ya tomorrow, Scott." he said, kissing Scott's cheek.
When Clint and Lucky left, Scott joins his daughter in the kitchen.
"Is there something you wanna tell me, Daddy?" Cassie asked smirking.
"Hm?" Scott replied clueless.
Cassie sighs shaking her head, slapping her palm against her forehead.
"I saw Mr. Barton kiss you on the cheek." Cassie said.
"Oh..." Scott chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Are you boyfriends now?" Cassie asked him.
"No, we just...like each other right now." Scott answered.
He changes the subject by offering to help Cassie with her homework. While getting ready for bed, Cassie insists that Scott should ask out Clint. A few days later, Scott picks Cassie up from school so they could go grocery shopping. As he pulled up to the house he could hear shouting and barking. Scott looks over into Clint's yard and sees him arguing with a man while Lucky was in the house looking out the window, barking and growling like crazy.
"Cassie, stay in the car." Scott told his daughter.
Quietly, Scott gets out of his car and walks over to Clint.
"Clint, is this guy bothering you?" Scott asked, making sure to stand in between him and the other guy.
"No, I'm not. I'm just having a discussion with my boyfriend." the other guy replied aggressively.
"I'm not your boyfriend anymore, Brock! I broke up with you when got arrested for that DUI!" Clint shouted.
"Oh, so because I go to jail, you just get to ditch me!?" Brock shouted back.
"That's not why I broke up with you, I broke up with you because you're an abusive a**hole!" Clint replied, agitated.
"I have never once laid a hand on you, quit making sh*t up!" Brock growled.
"That's only because you were always too scared that Lucky would tear your arm off if you tried to hit me. But you were emotionally abusive and controlling." Clint said, grabbing a hold of Scott's bicep with a shaking hand.
Brock lets out an annoyed grunt, clenching his teeth and his fists.
"Sir, if you don't leave right now, I'm calling the police." Scott told him, also clenching his fists, staring hard at Clint's ex.
"Why don't you just mind your own f**king business. I'm just trying to get back what's mine, so buzz off!" Brock told Scott.
Scott refuses to budge, angering Brock even more. He pulls out a pocket knife and flips out the blade, threatening Scott and Clint.
"Woah! Dude, what the h*ll!?" Scott shrieked, throwing his hands up in surrender.
But before he could do anything with the knife, Brock was suddenly hit in the back of the head with a flying can of baked beans. The impact immediately knocks him out and he crumbles to the ground.
"Wow, I can't believe that actually worked." Cassie said standing near the car holding a grocery bag.
"Cassie, get in the house and call the police!" Scott told Cassie.
As Cassie ran inside the house, Scott went to check on Clint.
"Are you okay?" Scott asked worriedly.
Clint just shakes his head 'no', so Scott hugs him. When the police arrived, Brock was just coming to.
"Have fun in jail, b**ch!" Cassie calls out as Brock was being shoved into the back seat of a police car.
"Language, Cassie!" Scott scolded, still holding Clint in his arms protectively.
"Aw, come on, Daddy, I know you were thinking the same thing." Cassie replied.
After it was all over with, Scott invites Clint and Lucky over so that Clint could have some company. Clint sat in the corner of the couch with Lucky cuddled in his lap.
"Here, hot cocoa always makes me feel better when I'm upset." Scott said handing Clint the warm beverage.
"Thanks." Clint mumbled.
Scott sits next to him on the couch and wraps his arm around him.
"So, don't you have any questions about Brock?" Clint asked quietly.
"Nah, judging by what I've seen today, I know all that I need to know. He's a b*stard who treated you like sh*t and, frankly, doesn't deserve you." Scott answered.
"You're right, he doesn't." Clint agreed.
"But I know someone who does." he added, snuggling into Scott's side.
It wasn't said aloud, but it was pretty much confirmed that they were dating now, and Scott couldn't be any happier having his new neighbor as his boyfriend.
