Invasion : Part 4
[Utopia Isle : 17/02/2001]
09:23 A.M.
Far from the world, hidden from the sight of the malicious eyes of men, the island protected by the gods glowed with a divine radiance. On the pristine beach of Utopia Island, two women were running on horseback.
Both wore Greek style attire, both were women so beautiful that no doubt they could attract the attention of any man or woman, with long black hair and a similar appearance both were mother and daughter, the Queen and Princess of the Island.
Zarda looked like a young woman still in her twenties, while her mother Hippolyta already looked like a more mature version of her, with some marks of time paused in her eternally beautiful face.
Both stopped their ride, Zerda looked at the sea that surrounded the island with a certain anticipation, as if she wanted something to come, but the waves just continued to do their dance hitting the shore, making her sigh.
"What bothers you my daughter ?" Hippolyta asked approaching.
"It's nothing mother it's just that... I feel something out there calling me." Zarda said with a distant look.
"Nonsense my little sun and stars, there is absolutely nothing out there for you, the world of men holds nothing good for us." Hippolyta quickly cut off her daughter's thoughts.
Zarda sighed again and looked at her mother with a sad look. She knew that Hippolyta had suffered greatly at the hands of men and that her view of the world was dark and hopeless. But Zarda couldn't come to terms with the idea of spending her entire life on the island, not knowing what lay beyond her divine borders.
"I know mother, but I can't help but think about what it would be like to see the world outside. I want to understand men and their ways, to know how they live and how they think. I want to learn about their world so we can defend ourselves better if they come to threaten us again." Zarda said with determination in her voice.
Hippolyta sighed and placed her hand on her daughter's shoulder.
"I understand your wish, my daughter, but you must understand that men are cruel and selfish. They care for nothing but their own benefit, and have no respect for women or the living creatures and plants of their world. You can't trust them, no matter how kind they seem to be." Hippolyta spoke sternly.
Zarda looked at her mother sadly, knowing her words were true. She had heard enough stories about the men's cruelties to know they were a real threat. However, she still held out hope that there might be a way to find goodness somewhere in the mortal world.
"I understand what you're saying mother, but I can't help but feel like there's something more out there. Something I need to figure out for myself." Zarda said with determination in her voice.
Hippolyta sighed again, knowing there was nothing she could say to dissuade her daughter from her pursuit of knowledge. She just hoped that Zarda could find the wisdom and security she sought in her home and not have to see the horrors she and her sisters went through.
New York
04:34 P.M.
Meanwhile, in the city that never sleeps, people live their lives normally, making the best of the innovations brought by Stark Industries and S.T.A.R Laboratories, but one thing that didn't change was the traffic.
A taxi driver was reading the Daily Bugle newspaper while waiting for traffic to clear, the air no longer had the smell of exhaust fumes, so people didn't have to honk their horns as much to get out of their seat. In the man's newspaper there was an image of someone wearing a red and dark blue suit with black webs covering him holding a criminal while holding on to a web rope with the caption "Hero or Menace".
"Hehe, this place is getting crazy, we just need a meteor to fall here." The man laughed.
While the taxi driver was laughing at the possibility of a meteor falling on New York, something unexpected happened. A flash in the sky caught everyone's attention, followed by a deafening roar. People started looking up and saw something that looked like a giant meteor falling towards Central Park.
The taxi driver immediately turned off the car and ran towards the park, along with several other people who were also curious about what had happened. When they arrived at Central Park, they found a large hole in the ground and a shiny object in the middle of it.
As people got closer to see the object, they were surprised to find that it wasn't a meteor, but an alien craft. The ship had a spidery appearance, with gray organic dye with several golden spores that acted as visors.
One of these visors glowed purple, aiming at people, and soon an energy beam was fired, hitting the ground close to where the people were.
As soon as the energy beam was fired, people started to panic and run in all directions. Some of them were injured by tripping or being pushed in the crowd.
Soon after, authorities began to arrive at the scene, with police and firefighters cordoning off the area and trying to keep people away. Meanwhile, news of the alien ship's crash spread rapidly through the city, causing more chaos and confusion.
The military soon arrived with air forces and tanks arriving to fight this Invasion. The military soon realized that they were facing a threat unlike anything they had faced before. The alien ships were extremely advanced and equipped with powerful weapons that easily surpassed the military's conventional weapons.
The tanks fired their cannons at the ships, but the shots didn't seem to do any damage. The air forces also tried to hit the ships with their missiles, but they seemed to be deflected by some kind of energy shield.
Meanwhile, the Robotic Spiders continued to fire their energy beams, causing destruction and death throughout the city. Buildings were pulverized and set on fire, streets were leveled and civilians struggled to escape.
The military quickly realized that it needed a better strategy to deal with the alien threat. But they didn't have to think too much because soon the sonic boom filled the city and then one of the spider-ships received a huge hole after a blue and white blur passed through it.
In the sky the greatest hero in the world looking at all the destruction and his face showed nothing but irritation, Superman then dove again to destroy the rest of the ships.
Superman flew through the sky towards the alien ships, his white cape fluttering in the wind. The Man of Steel's eyes were fixed on the robotic spiders as he prepared for battle.
The robotic spiders fired their energy beams towards Superman, but the Kryptonian easily dodged them, flying at high speed and making agile movements to avoid them.
Superman then used his heat vision to destroy one of the ships, which exploded in a glowing fireball. He then approached another ship and grabbed it, starting to crush it with his hands.
The robotic spiders tried to resist, shooting more energy beams towards Superman, but nothing seemed to affect him. He continued to destroy the ships one by one, his superhuman strength and speed being far superior to that of the robotic spiders.
Some of the spiders tried to flee, but Superman quickly caught up with them, using his heat vision to destroy them as he flew through the sky.
After a few intense minutes of battle, all the robotic spiders were destroyed and the city was finally peaceful again. People watched in silence as Superman flew across the sky, a true hero saving the city once more.
POV : Superman/Calvin Kent
As I flew over the devastated city, I felt a mixture of sadness and anger. Sadness for the destruction wrought by the alien invaders and anger that they endangered the lives of so many innocent people.
I recognized the model of the ships, they were from a race of galactic mercenaries called Chitauri. Unlike the Avengers movie, here they have several sub-species and the one I was dealing with was one of the most problematic, as they are the variation that copulated with the Skrulls and has shapeshifting abilities.
"Superman!!" A scream caught my attention, looking down to see General Thaddeus Ross, a figure I'd really like to avoid right now.
I went down to where he was already expecting to hear a million of his standard complaints, mostly about not helping in the hunt for what the public called the Hulk.
"The situation is worse than I thought if they left you in charge." I said, looking at the man.
Ross rolled his eyes and crossed his arms.
"I'm not here to argue with you, brat. We need to join forces to fight this alien threat. And I need you to help us coordinate the war effort." He said the last part reluctantly.
"Tell me everything." I said, seriously.
