Road or Sky (Warren Worthington III x Reader)

Requested by @WarriorCatsarebae
I'm sorry I didn't post a new chapter. I've been lately working on so many school things that I come home tired every day and my sleep schedule is whack.
I'll try to post more but don't get your hopes too high

_______

Warren didn't really know if he deserved the redemption that they gave him. He wrecked their house all because he was power hungry and now was in their mercy.

So of course, he ran.

He didn't want to be there. He didn't ask to be rejected by his parents and to have wings, actually wings. He didn't care now. He didn't care if he was shunned, he just want to be happy for once.

Wearing his new wings on his back and a small backpack that contained some essentials, he flew. Just below the radar of planes and peoples vision, he flew.

Warren found a job in a small town of Fernsite. He was able to purchase a small house in a peacekeeping neighborhood. He spent most of his time at home.

But sometimes, he would fly away to forget about everything. Scars on his back that reminded him of when he used to cut his wings and the time before he met as many mutants he knew now.

He remained in small town, having a little happiness to hold on too.

But Warren longed for someone to talk to, to understand. And just as fast as he thought of it, someone came.

The rain slapped the windows as Warren rushed to close them. He liked the fresh air but it was getting his floorboards wet. He didn't have the will to clean them up.

The banging on the front door shooting him out of his thoughts.

Peeking through the window, he saw a hooded figure. He grabbed one of his metal feathers and slipped on the bathrobe he always kept by the door to cover up.

Opening door, it revealed a girl that was shivering. Her h/c hair was stuck on her face as she looked at Warren with eyes that seem to sparkle. He felt the words stuck in his mouth.

"Excuse me, but can I stay here?" She asked, her voice pleading. "I-um, I don't have anywhere to go." She seemed anxious and looking at the path behind her that was connected to the Main Street.

Warren felt a pang of sympathy and nodded, wordlessly, allowing her in.

She smiled, grateful and said "I swear, I'll pay you back-with work or money—."

Warrant smiled. "No, it's okay... But I could use some actual work though on this house."

And now, she seemed like a permanent fixture. She did keep her promise of working, fixing house up really nicely. He learned her name was Y/N and that she was a hard-worker.

It wasn't long until she found out that he had wings. It was a accident and he didn't plan it.

She walked in on him changing one morning and promise to keep the secret, revealing her mutation. It turns out that she has a tail-like thing sprouting out of her shoulders. She didn't specify what it did,but Warren respected her privacy and decided not to ask.

After exchanges of jokes and kisses, things escalated to more than what Warren was prepared for. Now, he can never imagine her leaving.

It was raining hard outside when Warren and Y/N decided they wanted to go out to get groceries. The rolling thunder told them they better stay put.

They never really did like going out to town anyway. It was too much of a risk and this was the perfect excuse.

Y/N grinned at Warren as she set down the cups of lemonade down on the floorboards and joined him. He was watched the pouring rain and the trees brush the wind as it raced by. The rolling of soft thunder just made the whole scenery more gorgeous.

The door was wide open as he scooted aside to let her join.

"You look so sad." She said as she took a sip of the yellow liquid.

Warren chuckled. "How can I when I'm with you?" He said, smiling and nudging her.

She rolled her eyes, playfully. "How about I punch you and find out?"

"With your mouth on my lip?" He smiled, knowing he won when she rolled her eyes again and leaned against the sliding glass that was his door.

Warren leaned in and rested his head on the crook of her neck. Her hands immediately flew to his head and began trying to braid his hair. He hasn't cut it for a while now.

They sat in each other's presence in silence as Warren's mind drifted into his thoughts. He felt a smile when he remembered the imprint of their first kiss embedded in his lips.

"I'm so glad I let you in that night." He admitted, randomly.

"I'm so glad you did too." She replied, tugging gently at his hair.

Warren liked the sensation of goosebumps that popped up across his skin as she tugged on his scalp. He felt vulnerable and helpless, so intimate.

"I love you." She mumbled, quietly. She probably though he couldn't hear her but he did.

The smile that came up didn't leave all day as he murmured, "I love you, too."

When she gave up, he felt him missing her touch.

But it didn't compare to the pain when he woke up the next day to find her, her things or any sign of her gone. He didn't realize how much he really needed her to stay sane and not a hollow shell like how she found him.

All she left was a note.

Warren,

I'm sorry I had to leave so abruptly but believe me when I say it was urgent. I wouldn't have left this randomly if I had a choice.

I love you, I really do. But the people who were chasing me found me and I can't let them find you. Burn this note immediately after you are done reading this. Pack your things and leave, right now.

I'm sorry I dragged you into this.

I love you, please don't hate me and please don't try to find me.

Love,
Y/N.

Warren didn't have the heart to throw the note away. He packed his belongings, which wasn't that many, and left.

And where was he now?

Searching for her. What can he say? He's a rebel.

Finally finding a reason to be happy for once and something to make him feel not like a failure, he wasn't going to give that up.

She single-handedly pulled him out of his depression, there was no way he was going to just let her go.

So he was on the road or sky, whatever he preferred. Warren was determined to find the girl that fixed his heart, not even thinking that she would probably break it again.
