Y/N jerked her wrist away from Barry's weak grip. His eyes look hurt and heartbroken as she tried to swallow back her sob and tears. Her back was pressed against the cold door of his house.

"Please—Ju-Just please." She said, looking at her shoes. Barry tried to reach out, but she flinched. He pulled away, sad.

"I-I can explain." He said, trying to calm his shaky voice. "The League called—"

"There's no need." She struggled to keep her voice from turning cold. "I'm just going to go." Her hand tried to turn the cold knob of the door.

"Y/N!" He blocked the door from opening. His hand slammed on the door just a couple inches away from her head, making her jump. "Please, I... I love you and I don't want to see you go. If you would just let me explain you would understand—"

"How?" She snapped. "You don't even take this relationship seriously, playing with my feelings. I won't argue on why you're leaving, I understand but..." Barry was silent.

She glanced at his hand again. "You tried to hit me..." She whispered. "You got so mad... And for a second, I thought you were actually going to hit me."

Barry looked at her in shock, "I would never—"

"You just did." She responded back, bluntly.

Barry tried to meet her eyes, but she refused looking at anything but his forest green eyes. He would tilt her chin but he knew that she didn't want him touching her now.

"Do you even want this?" She asked, softly. "Do you want there to be a 'us'?" Her e/c eyes looked up and stared into his orbs.

"I'm The Flash—" he started but was cut off by her shaking her head.

"I'm not asking if you are able or The Flash wants to, I'm asking if you, Barry Allen, wants to." She didn't stray away from his faltering gaze.

"I-I..." His voice broke. "Yes. I want there to be a 'us'." His eyes turned glassy, she could see her reflection in them "so bad..." He whispered. Then, looking away, he sighed. "But—"

"Save it." She interrupted. "Obviously you won't even try for what you want. And obviously, I'm not good enough to even fight for, maybe we can still be friends." Her gaze was sad as she turned away.

"No, Y/N—" Barry started but she shoved his arm away from the door and she walked out into the neighborhood with her car keys.

Barry watched his everything walk away from him with a sinking feeling forming into a black hole that would soon swallow him whole.

Barry didn't smile as Oliver told a joke. He hasn't been smiling for the past 2 months now and his smile, that used to be so regularly, was now rare. The other members of the League could feel his sadness seeping out of his words and lies.

They tried to convince him to find her again, and even Jo'nn offered to track her down. But he shook his head, knowing that his and Y/N's split was for the best. Part of him wished that she would show up one day and run into his arms. Another part knew that she probably moved on. He knew that she was just wasting her time with him anyway.

But it didn't matter, because one day he came home and everything that was hers was gone. Including their 1 year anniversary of whatever they were disappeared off the picture frame on his bedside table.

Barry was now back home, sliding off his suit and planting himself on his bed. It felt cold as it was, with him wishing that it was warm. He glanced up and looked at the empty picture frame on his bedside table. Unconsciously, he grabbed the pillowcase he hasn't washed and sniffed her faint scent.

Then, realizing what he was doing, he threw the pillowcase back as he silently scolding himself as he groaned.

The party that they hosted was big with reporters hovering around them, hoping to get a interview with the Justice League members.

The members wore formal wear. But the mask covered their eyes and Barry felt weird as he sipped on the strawberry champagne. His eyes scanned the area for reporters, hoping there was none.

Diana walked up to him, looking concerned.

"Please don't tell me there's something wrong." He groaned. "The party just started."

"So... Um...." She said, nervously. "Y/N's here."

He nearly spit out his drink as he tried to compose himself. It's been a while since he heard her name since their split 5 months ago. Barry tried to get better, but all he's got better at was faking it.

"What?" Barry asked, trying to be casual but he was hanging on to every word that came out of Diana's mouth.

"She's here because some of the League members invited her." Diana explained.

They smiled at some guest, trying to be casual. Leaning against the back column, Barry scanned the people for the familiar face he still loved.

"Why?" Barry asked, feeling a little betrayed that they would invite her when they knew that he and her broke up.

"She has friends in the League too, Barry." Diana said, rolling her eyes. "Just be cool, and she will come running in now time." She lied smoothly.

"You and I know that's not true." Barry deadpanned. "She probably has a shiny new boyfriend by now and—"

He suddenly spotted her, feeling all the air sucked out of his lungs as his eyes soaked in every detail about her. She wore her hair down and it was shorter with a light curl. Her black dress hung to her like a dark greek-style dress. The gold small chain sat in the valley if her breast that were exposed but the deep plunge of the collar. A small gold, detailed mask covered her face.

"Fuck me." Barry said, staring at her with his mouth open.

He could feel Diana's smirk as she closed his open mouth for him. "Don't want to catch flies, speedy." Diana started walked away.

"No—Wait!" He hissed but it was too late, seeing she disappeared into the crowd of people.

Barry muttered some curse words, but he finally got the courage to go out of the dark corner he was hiding in and kept his eye on Y/N as he maneuvered through the crowd.

She was talking to Bruce about something, chuckling a little as Bruce had a slight smile. Bruce suddenly glanced up and met Barry's eyes before looking back at Y/N. Barry stiffened as he tried to blend in with the crowd.

When he turned around, he met Y/N's eyes. He could feel his heart stop and his breathing start to go faster. His brain panicked and his words clogged in his throat.

"Hey." She said, sipping a drink. "Bruce told me you would be here."

Fuck you, Bruce. He thought.

"Y-Yeah." He chuckled, nervously. "Well here I am."

A awkward silence filled the space between them as Barry pressed his lips tightly together.

"You look great." She complimented.

"You look amazing." He countered.

She giggled, lightly. "Thanks. Took forever for the dress to get on." She confessed.

"Well, it's worth it." He replied, genuinely. "How's everything?"

"Okay, I moved back to Central City, so..." She smiled. "I missed home."

"Where did you live before?" He asked. Barry felt his hands grow sweaty.

"I moved to Coast City. It was nice but it was Central City, you know." Y/N said, shrugging. "Something about the sciencey atmosphere. Gosh, I'm such a nerd." Her cheeks blushed.

Barry watched her in wonder. It has been too long. "Don't worry, I'm a nerd too so it's all right." He smiled.

"I got a new phone when I moved here." She said, leading him away as they started the dances. "The new ones are so unfamiliar but better."

"I agree." Barry nodded. He was listening but mostly just watching her in fascination. He still couldn't believe she was here, next to him.

"Cake?" She offered, holding up a chocolate cake on a dainty white plate.

"No thanks." He shook his head. "I'm trying to be healthy, superhero and all."

"Oh." Her eyes deflated a little but she ate the cake, never less.

The rest of the evening consisted of her chatting to different people at the party and Barry trailing at her side like a lost puppy. He mainly just watched her talk, occasionally butting in and piping up in her conversations.

After talking to Diana, Y/N turned to Barry.

"Wanna dance?" She asked. "I like this song, it's not that hard."

"I suck at dancing." Barry stated, bluntly.

"It's easy." She objected. Then, grabbing his forearm, she dragged him off to dance.

He wrapped his arm around her waist, stiffly, not sure he should be dancing with his ex. Breaking all rules, he looked away staring at her as she inspected their feet as she tried to dodge his foot. He glanced back at her but found himself just staring at her again. She glanced up and his face heated up as he got caught staring.

"See?" She smiled, "It's easy."

Barry just nodded and spotted Diana, Clark and Oliver giving him a wink and a thumbs up. Barry struggled not to throw the nearest object at them, so he settled for a glare instead.

"There was this kitten (replace animal if you don't like) I found in the hallway of my apartment so now it's been living inside my place." She rambled on, loosely staring at his white button up shirt.

"What about your boyfriend?" He asked. "Doesn't he mind?"

She shook her head. "I don't have anyone I'm seeing right now."

Barry felt butterflies erupt from his stomach. He was dancing with a beautiful, single ex that he obviously still had feelings for.

He looked into her eyes when she glanced up. He felt his focus intensify as he looked into her eyes, getting lost. He felt his lips part as he stared. She didn't blink as she stared openly back, her nude lips pressed tightly against each other.

"Y/N..." He whispered. "I missed you."

She blinked, suddenly realizing what they were doing. Her eyes trailed to his parted lips but then she glanced away. "Barry... I think we should just be friends."

"Why?" Barry asked, frowning. "I want this, and I'm willing to fight this time if you would just let me–"

"This won't work out, I can feel it." She explained. "It'll just be a waste of time and heartbreak."

"I changed!" His voice raised a little. "And I'm willing to do anything this time."

"Don't say that." She said, her bottom lip quivered.

"It's the truth." Barry slipped her fingers under her chin and filter her head towards him. "I'm not letting you go this time because of my stupid priorities back then. I know what I want now and you are the top of that wish list. Everyday I go back to the day you left and I wished that you would've stayed do you know how much I miss you?"

"I-I came here just to be friends, I thought you would've moved on by now and we could put the past behind us because your my best friend, Barry."

"Can't we be someone more?" He plead.

The music stopped playing and couples left the dance floor. Y/N walked toward a private area of ballroom. Barry followed her, hoping for the best as he felt his heart ache.

"Can't you see?" Barry asked. "I still love you and you obviously still have feelings for me." His hands fidgeted. "We can have a happily ever after."

"I just want to be friends." She whispered, looking away. Barry felt his heart sank as he realized that she would never agree right now. Maybe he can ease his way in.

"I respect that, but I just want you to know that I will always be here." Barry sighed. "I'm your number one fan."

"And I'm yours." She responded. "But I don't want to be anything more than friends."

Barry nodded. Her eyes teared up as she blinked away her tears. "Don't look like that, you make me feel sad." Her arms wrapped around his tall figure for a hug. He automatically hugged her back, pressing a kiss on her head.

She smiled sadly, tear streaks were hidden behind her mask. "Bye, Barry." She said, softly. "I hope we can remain friends."

Barry just nodded as he watched her walk away as she did 5 months ago. His chest felt like the sinking hole that swallowed him up was filled a little.

Being for her was the next best thing and he was taking whatever he could have to be near her.
