Locked In (Edward Nigma x Reader)

Requested by @TheBloodyPainters
I hope I made you proud

______

Edward stared at the puzzle that sat on the teachers desk and watched it disappeared into her desk a minute later. Narrowing his eyes, he mentally planned to a way to get into later.

"You know, you could just steal it during lunch."

Whipping his head around, he met a pair of e/c eyes. Her h/c fell in strands around her face as she looked at him with curious eyes.

"I-I knew that." He lied.

She just smiled, and nodded. Edward had a uncomfortable feeling that she knew that he was lying. But brushing off the feeling, he ignored the girl.

It felt like a itch he wanted to scratch, always nagging him. And when he sneaked a peek over at the girl again, she got up. The teacher called her to do a problem. He got a whiff of cotton candy as she passed.

______

It was slow day. But it was Winter after all so he didn't expect anything less. It didn't warm his freezing toes though. The carnival was almost closing and the night turned colder.

"I'd like to play."

He met a pair of smirking green eyes. Under his arm was a girl who was hiding her face and a couple friends were around him. They were about the same age as he was.

"Did you hear me?" The guy said again. Edward disliked him immediately. "I said I'd like to play."

Edward painted a smile on his face. He would do the easiest puzzle for their sake. They seem stupid.

"Riddle me this, what is white when it is dirty, and black when it is clean?" He asked.

The girl under his arm rolled her eyes. The other people in their friend group seemed confused. The guy with the green eyes frowned, thinking really hard. Edward chuckled mentally at their stupidity.

"This—This is bullshit!" He finally growled, taking his money back and stomping away. The girl under his arm stayed while the other left with their leader.

Edward raised a eyebrow at the girl. But when he met her eyes, they were a shade of e/c that seemed so plain to him but felt like a kick in the stomach. It took him a while to remember her but when he did, he froze.

"It's a chalkboard." She answered. "Am I right?" Her smile was illuminating.

"Um, yeah." Edward nodded. He mentally hoped that's he wouldn't recognize him. His chin lowered, casting a shadow over his face.

"How about another riddle?" She asked.

"What about your friends?" He glanced at them. They were terrorizing other carnival rides. He pitied the other staff who had to deal with them.

"They're idiots. I don't know why I hang out with them." She shrugged, glancing at the stuffed animals that lined the walls.

"Ok... Um, what ring is a square?"

"A boxing ring?"

"What has a eye but not a head?"

"A hurricane."

Edward watched a smile erupt from her face whenever she got answer right. It was nice. He kept giving her the easier question and seeing happiness on her face sent him a burst of satisfaction knowing that he made her smile while her friends caused her to roll her eyes.

"It's getting late, Edward." He stiffen at the sound of his name. "I'll see you next time."

"You remember me?" He frowned. He wasn't exactly memorable.

"Of course, you're the smartest guy in the whole grade." She eyes the carnival tent they were in. "But to be honest, I think you have a lot more potential then this."

Edward felt a swell of pride when she said that. He smiled at her.

She smiled back. "See you next time."

When she turned around, he got a whiff of the same cotton candy smell he did 8 years ago.

_______

Every Sunday, she would come and hang out with him in the cold. He thought she was dumb for wanting to be in the freezing weather with him when she could be somewhere warm, but he appreciated it.

And every time some guys flirted with her, Edward would stiffen. He didn't blame them, she was gorgeous. But he wanted to rip out every guys throats when they even glanced at her.

Y/N swung her legs over the booth, tilting her head to one side and grinning at Edward. The night sky was blocked by clouds, almost like it was going to rain.

"You know, we should hang out some time outside of this dump." She said while he tidied the booth.

He hummed in agreement, only half paying attention.

"Like right now. Your shift ends in a half hour, right?" She asked. Poking his should and causing him to turn around. Her finger slipped under his chin, causing him to freeze up.

His icy blue eyes stared into her sparkling e/c eyes. He felt a eruption of butterflies in his chest. Her finger tilted his head to face her.

"We should go to Walmart or something, I think I'm out of milk." She glanced out the booth.

Edward frowned, thinking it wasn't his ideal place to hang out but it was better than the carnival. "We can leave now, I doubt there will be any more people."

Her grin was addicting. "You think?"

He nodded, smiling with her. Her arms wrapped around his waist, making him wonder if this was how friends acted. He wouldn't know, he never really had real friends.

Edward wondered if the butterflies and protectiveness was normal too. Though the protectiveness was more like possessiveness.

When they left, he felt the sense of rebellion overwhelm him. It was exhilarating still, especially when Y/N was holding his hand. Edward felt like if she could leave him to a cliff and he would jump off with her.

It wasn't until he caught himself staring at her lips, he knew that this was beyond friendship he was feeling. It scared him but he couldn't just let go. He couldn't shut down his feelings like usual.

"Are you okay?" She asked. Her eyes were captivating as he stared into them when they left Walmart. "Ed—"

"Can I kiss you?" He asked, bluntly.

Her face blushed, making him feel suddenly nervous. He never really kissed any one before.

"I—um, sure?" She sputtered out.

Edward didn't move, just staring at her lips. She giggled, snapping him out of his daze and panic.

"Here, how about I kiss you." She leaned up and pressed her soft, warm lips against his cold ones. It massaged and calmed him down, relaxing him into her touch.

And when she pulled away, he grinned like a fool. And that's when he decided that he wasn't so scared anymore. And that's when he decided to make a decision that would change the way he looked at love. And that's when he decided that he would walk into love.

And maybe that's his worst mistake ever because when he was locked in of love, he couldn't get out. Even when she was gone.
