Doesn't Realize (Pietro Maximoff x Reader)

Requested by @crazycatcrafter
I really like this one.

______

Everything was blurry when he opened his eyes. His skin felt tight, like it hasn't moved for a long time while around his eyes felt crusty at the same time, clean.

The cold air nipped at his skin as he blinked in the harsh light. Everything was out of focus. He raised his hand to rub his eyes but his wrist was caught by a warm palm.

"Don't rub." A voice said.

When he blinked again, he met delighted e/c eyes. The harsh light shone on her brilliant white lab coat and light blue collared shirt underneath. Her h/c hair was pulled into a ponytail as she smiled and let go of his wrist.

He struggled to talk, his mouth dry and lips chapped. "Where... Where am I?"

He could recall anything, his mind drawing blank. Pietro frowned, glancing at his surroundings, trying to desperately remember something. And when it all hit him, remembered the hard pavement floor and cold Sokovian air miles above earth. The fear in Clint Barton's eyes as his visual tilted and tunneled. And the pain that was so strong, it numbed everything else.

"I-I—" he stammered. "What is this?" He asked, his eyes widening.

She sent him a sheepish smile. "It's a long story." She said, then resting her fingertips on his right forearm. "You were revived and it will probably take a while to get back to your full health. But never less, you are alive."

Pietro felt speechless. But a odd sense of trust fell to his stomach as he looked into her eyes. His mind began to worry and wander.

"Where's Wanda? And the Avengers?" He asked, glancing around the cold lab and blank concrete walls.

She hesitated before responding "That's another story. They will be there when you complete the healing phase."

Pietro could tell that she was wary and hesitant but it immediately disappeared when she smiled again at him. Her smile was bright and made her eyes crinkle a little. It was cute.

"I'll show you to your room." She said, walked to the door.

_______

Pietro trained a lot. It was tiring but he understood the doctors just wanted to make sure he was ready. He could get the nagging sensation that the back of his brain was telling him that everything felt wrong. Almost like he forgot something.

He sniffed his new light blue shirt that clung tightly to his chest and newly developed muscles before slipping it on and leaving his little room.

Pietro had daily check ups with Y/N. She was the doctor that woke him up and showed him around the base. She was easily the most trusted person to him and the first person he would go talk to.

Opening the door, he walked into room. The blank concrete walls stared back at him as he sat on the blue-grey stool in the middle of the room as he waited for her. The medical cabinets seem much more full as he shuffled around, growing restless. The dim lighting in the room made him grow bored as he scanned the room.

When she walked in, he immediately perked up.

The same brilliant white lab coat hung off her light blue button up with a couple pens were in her breast pocket. Her dark grey pants were folded up around her ankles, showing off her converse. Her hair was in a messy pony tail, giving off that casual vibe that he loved.

She smiled when he met her gaze, unlike most of the people in the base.

"Hello Pietro." She said, writing some notes on her clipboard she carried everywhere as she sat down on the chair across the desk from him.

"Hi." He grinned brightly at her like a excited puppy.

"We will begin with a blood withdrawal." She said, setting down her clipboard before walking over to the cabinets to get a syringe.

Pietro watched her smooth movements as she pulled out a little drawer. He found everything she did was fascinating. He could just watch her paint walls and be interested for hours.

"Okay." He said, keeping his eyes on her.

When she put his blood into the scanner in the computer, he racked his brain for conversation starters.

"Do you scan other people also?" He asked.

"Well... Yeah, but not like you." She explained. "Everyone has different scans."

"Oh?" He propped his palms to cup his chin. If he had a tail right now, no doubt it would be wagging like crazy.

"Yeah, like Test Subject 0275 needs to get his lungs checked because he breathes water and I have to filter his lungs to get rid the pollution every 3 months." She said, looking into his ear with a microscope.

When she checked his eyes, he stared into hers. Admiring the flecks of e/c colors or some days how even the color is in her iris.

"Does he control water also?" He asked.

"No, he just adapts to breath water." She answered.

He watched as she wrote down her notes. Her handwriting was a little more messy when she rushed, he noticed.

"You have very nice eyes, Pietro." She said as she wrote.

Pieter grinned. "Thanks, you have more amazing eyes though."

"Your eyesight is incredible." She said. "No where compared to mine, really."

Pietro deflated a little when he realized she wasn't talking about how his eyes looked.

When Y/N glanced back at him, she giggled a little. "You're too cute, I'm kidding. You're eyes are a really pretty blue though."

Pietro grinned, his cheeks hurt from smiling so much. A explosion of warmth and happiness erupted in his chest as he fell for her even more.

"Do you know when I'm getting out of here?" He asked, suddenly. His mind wandered when he could take her out on a date instead seeing her in this dingy place.

Her movements were frozen for a split second before returning back to normal. But he noticed her breath hitched a little. Pietro always found that a little weird every time he would bring up where they were or when he would leave, she would seem strained.

"I... I honestly don't know, Pietro." She said, a little quietly.

"But didn't they say?" He asked. "Any sign?"

She didn't answer but pressed the cool metal agains this chest, listening to his fast heartbeat when he felt her soft skin touch his bare chest. A hot flush rushed up to his cheeks as he stared at her.

"You have a fast heartbeat, still." She mused, writing that down in her clipboard.

Pietro always did when she would do that. He didn't feel like embarrassing himself and tell her that it was because of her. Especially even after months if the same thing, he could never shake off the warmth when she was around.

"I think we're almost done here, Pietro." She said, glancing back at the computer as it pinged his blood was fine.

A mini panic session raced in his mind as it always did when she said that. Her hand touched his forearm, pressing the needle into his skin and entertain get a clear liquid. Pietro didn't flinch though, since it was a routine.

"Do you think when I leave, you could show me around town?" He asked. He tried to deflate the hope that rose in his chest but it refused to go down.

She didn't freeze this time, but her eyes lowered. But when they looked up to meet his waiting gaze, they looked sad.

"I don't know, Pietro." She said, making disappointment tear him down inside. "You wouldn't really want me to anyway."

Her movements turned fast. She scrambled to get everything back to it's original place. Pietro watched as she sent him one last strained smile before patting his shoulder.

"I'll see you tomorrow, Pietro." She said, placing a small peck on his cheek before leaving before he could say anything else.

But it wasn't until weeks later, he would see her. He just finished training and passed by her in the halls.  Her head was held up, confidently. Her clipboard was in her arms while her gaze was trained ahead of her, refusing to meet his eyes.

"Y/N." He stopped and smiled at her. "Where have you been these past few weeks?"

She stopped, smiling politely at him. Memory of her peck was still stained on his cheek, he could feel a blush make it's way up to his face.

"Hello, Pietro." She said, nodding. He felt butterflies erupt in his chest and immediately die when she continued walking.

______

The ceiling turned to dust as a blur of red and gold swooped in. He caught a glimpse of Tony Starks suit to realize what was going on. Confusion lace his thoughts as he squinted to the sky. There was red mist surrounding the boulders that were caused by the collapsed ceiling around him.

A figure landed beside him and it took a couple seconds to realize it was a girl.

She wore a red leather jacket with a black blouse underneath her ripped black jeans and red converse. Her brown hair was flying around as her reddish brown eyes met his surprised blue eyes.

Wanda.

She wrapped her arms around and let out a sob.

"Oh thank, god, I thought I lost you." She said. Her palms cupped his cheek, even though he was taller than her. Her eyes pierced his soul as she said the next words slowly and seriously. "Did they hurt you?We have to leave, it's not safe." She eyed the floating rocks.

"What's going on?" He asked.

"You—you don't know?" She sputtered. Her eyes widened a little in surprised. "You were taken by HYDRA, we don't know what for but—"

"HYDRA?"  He felt his stomach drop in dread. Everything was starting to make sense, every weird thing or anything he felt was off started to make sense. Like how the walls were never painted with the SHIELD logo. He realized how slowly he was beginning to forget about the Avengers.

Y/N. Especially Y/N.

The stinging sensation of betrayal in his chest was a still there when he suddenly looked around him frantically.

"What? That isn't possible! Everyone is so nice and they said they were healing me..." His voice faltered, his mind racing to come up for more reasons to not believe the truth.

"Pietro." Wanda said, her expression wary. "We need to get out of here, it's not safe."

"You don't understand—Y/N! She's—I don't know where she is!" Pietro felt panic building up in his chest. "She's the—".

Pietro fell limp before he could say anything else. The last thing he saw was Wanda giving him a apologetic expression before she also disappeared into a fuzzy haze.

______

He stood on the edge of the arena, 2 years later. Pietro was suppose to getting a hard drive for SHIELD, and he did. It was wrapped around his tightened fist.

Pietro watched in horror, from a distance, as HYDRA silence traitors, gladiator style. In middle of the steel coliseum, his bright blue eyes met dazed e/c ones.

Pietro was frozen, watching the girl who he was in love with for months about to get murdered. Part of his screamed for him to leave because she lied to him. But another part of of him yelled at him to run down there and whisk her away like some lovey-dovey fairy tale he always daydreamed of when he thought of her.

But it wouldn't be that simple.

His foot started moving without his consent and ran to her, wrapping his arm around her waist and carrying her away.

And when he met her eyes when they were miles away. He was breathless and waiting for her to say something.

Her hair was messed up and she wore a simple beige t-shirt that was stained with baggy grey cargo pants and chunky boots. Her eyes were wide and her lips fell open in surprise.

"Pietro?" She said, breathless.

Her arms pushed him away, her eyes turning glassy. Pietro felt a sharp pain in his heart when she did that.

"What?—You shouldn't have done that." She said, her body began shaking. "They'll find me. You're only delaying my death."

"What?" He asked, confused on why she isn't thanking him and pressing her pretty lips against his right now.

"You need to take me back." She said, grabbing his bicep. Goosebumps rose as he felt her touch again even after two years of never seeing her.

"Wha—are you crazy? No!" He almost yelled.

"You don't understand—"

"Then make me understand!"

A silence in the air enveloped them. She stared at him, surprised at his tone.

"I..." Her voice broke. "They want me dead because I rejected their boss." She explained.

A stunned silence appeared for a second. Pietro wanted to laugh. It was such a stupid reason. "Wha—are you serious."

"They think I seduced their boss. Because I'm able to manipulate emotions. That was why I was assigned to you anyway, they wanted you to trust me." She continued. "And because of that, the boss hates me because he fell in love with me. I think he just wants to kill me." She rolled her eyes at the last sentence.

Pietro took a second to digest the information. What she said added to the list on why he should be be in love with her or even trust her but he still wanted to.

"I'm still not taking you back." He said.

She raised her eyebrows, challenging him. His gut screamed at him to take her back, to pity her. But his head brushed off the feeling. The feeling was overwhelming but he managed to suppress the feeling.

"Don't even think about using your powers." He said, grabbing her wrist and another hand on the back of her head. "I'm taking you somewhere far away. Don't worry about it, you'll be safe with me."

She frowned. "I honestly, rather you kill me now."

"Why do you want to die so bad?" He asked, rolling his eyes at her stubbornness.

"Because there is literally nothing to live for." She said.

"What about me?" He asked.

She snorted at his comment, but when her eyes met his serious ones she realized that he was absolutely serious. His other hand touched her jaw, softly. His eyes refused to let go of her gaze.

"Will you live for me?" He asked.

She hesitated. "There would be no difference anyway, you'll forget about me." She decided in her answer.

He ran his fingers through his hair, frustrated. "Two years, I spent two years trying to forget you. There would be no way I would forget you." He confessed, a little angrily.

Pietro was mad that she didn't realize how much of an affect she had on him. She had him wrapped around her little finger and she didn't even know it. He is in love with her and she doesn't know how perfect, rare and valuable she was too him.

"If you die, I will drag you out of hell and make you live again." He said. "You better live for yourself or for me at least."

She sat in a stunned silence, her eyes a little wide at his confession. Pietro froze a little, worrying if he said something wrong. A blush was starting to spread over his face.

"Only if I can show you around town, then." She said, quietly.

Pietro felt a swarm of butterflies when she smiled, shyly. She was too cute. A obvious blush was on his face now as he grinned like a excited puppy.

"You can show me around the whole world." He said.

When she wrapped her arms around his waist and he whisked her away to somewhere safe, he didn't worry about how the members would react or how SHIELD would like to recruit her because the girl he was absolutely in love with was finally there with him and he changed her world with those words that never made her think suicidal.

Everything was all right for now.
