Chapter 6:

Krisha's POV:

          The next day I stepped into SLC with tachycardia and headed straight to Adith's cabin. Before I could knock someone called my name it was Alka.

          "Hey Krisha, Adith is not in his cabin he went for an important meeting. " told her with a smile.

      "I need to report him before starting my work isn't it?" I asked her confused.

            "He was in a foul mood yesterday Krish... So leave it. It is not necessary to report him everyday. Just sign the ledger and start your day. " Alka explained me and I thanked her wholeheartedly. Although a tiny part of my heart starved to see him.

             Alka was a wonderful human, she made me feel so comfortable and guided me to the astrobiology laboratory. It was splendid. The lab was filled with all the modern and expensive instruments to work, it was a dream lab for any scientist.

            "So Krisha, I hope you like the place and here is the sample of the soil we took from the new planet. We are running various tests to examine its contents hope it will give us a positive result. " Alka told me.

         I keenly looked at the sample and read the notepad which has got it's test results. " Hello beautiful, this is Selva Mathews. I'm the lab assistant here you can call me if you need anything in this lab. " told a man. He was quiet handsome, must be around thirty and looked genuine.

             "Hi... I'm Krisha ." I shook my hand with him. I felt relaxed around Selva and Alka. They made me laugh after so long time.

         We had a conversation about the new planet Adith found and I told them my view " Of course it was a big achievement for human race Alka but we cannot jump into conclusions about an alien planet. We can't send our people to live there just like that. We need to verify many things. We are currently working on the soil sample then we need to research about the water, air, plants and most importantly other animals and traces of other alien race in that planet. "

         "So Krisha you mean to say that it was useless to congratulate Adith Sir because it was us who are going to work about the planet. Isn't it? Hahahah...." told Selva and laughed like manic.

      What was so funny about it to laugh and Adith did a great job if he didn't find the planet we couldn't do further research. Selva was freaking mad, Alka also joined him and laughed.

         "Stop it guys I didn't mean it that way." I told them laughing.

          "Yeah... Then which way you meant it Krisha? Can you please explain. " we heard a voice from behind and saw Adith climbing down the stairs with slow and steady steps focusing on me. His eyes were red and nose flaring with anger.

What did I say?

         "Si....sir...?" I asked him with tension as well with a slight confusion. By then he climbed down and stood in front of me.

             "Don't stammer Krisha... Okay, I'll help you. So... You think I'm crazy and useless and found a shitty planet. You guys have to work on it to make my useless invention commendable. Am I right? " he asked me with venom spitting down his words.

        "No Adith.... Actu-" Alka was about to take my side but Adith cut her off by saying "I told you to submit the experiment result on my table before noon. Is it ready Alka? " Alka shook her head in negative. "Then go and work on it." He told in a sharp tone which made Alka to run from the spot.
   
           "And you.... What kind of a women are you? You are flirting with an unknown man in the lab and disturbing his work. This is just the second day of your work Krisha.... Can't you at least wait for a while to find a man. Are you that desperate. " Adith's word stabbed my heard like a sharp knife and the blood from my heart dripped inform of tears down my eyes.

        I glanced at Selva, he was shocked and taken aback, then excused himself to get rid of the situation and gave me some space. I looked at Adith in disbelief.

       How could he think so low of me?

      "I don't give a damn about your character, but you are working under me and I want you to be obedient here. Stay away from Selva. " he warned me with a glare.

      I felt so pathetic and week under his scrutinizing eyes like I always did. I being myself nodded my head at him in positive and started working on the soil sample.
   
   Tears were dripping down my eyes, I used my shoulder to wipe it since I was wearing gloves and working on the sample. All the while I could feel Adith's eyes on me it was making me so anxious. I hurriedly finished my work and walked passed him fast into my cabin.

       After hyperventilating and crying my heart out, I calmed myself and used to washroom. When I came back to cabin, I saw Adith sitting on his chair through the glass door.

    God...why did you have to arrange my cabin next to him?

     I called home and checked on my daddy and mom, then started reading about the possible interpretation of the experiment I was expecting.

       Everyone left for the lunch, Alka called me to join her, I told her I wasn't hungry and laid my head on my desk. My stomach was growling but I didn't wanted to eat.

       My eyes burned the moment I closed it and I passed out for few minutes. Opening my eyes I saw Adith looking at me intently from his cabin sitting on his chair. I averted my gaze and left my cabin to the laboratory.

          I took out the petri plates out of the incubator and did the next procedures. I was feeling giddy because of starving from morning since I skipped my breakfast too.

   I jolted the results and left to Adith's cabin. I stepped in after knocking and I submitted the file to him not glancing at him.

      "Test result for the remaining experiments, we need to wait till tomorrow to get the remaining results. Thank you sir. " with that I turn around to open the door but failed because of giddiness.

        Before I could kiss the ground two strong pair of arms held me making me look into the pools of emotions revolving in the retina of Adith. It wasn't the first time... He held me like this before but then the total story was different.

FLASHBACK

      I was fasting like other girls for the well being of my husband. Weird, I was not even married but still I had to fast for my future husband. That was a custom in my religion but in one way I liked it, they were fun.

         I was starving from morning and came to the temple with a group of my cousins to pray and break my fast. The sky was turning dark by then, the temple looked more beautiful because of the illuminated diyas(lamps) scattered all over.

         " God... I'm really hungry but my aunt is very strict. She's not giving me a morsel of food. Please make me strong and let me break this stupid fast soon. " I prayed the idol in front of me.

          "Krisha... Come fast..." yelled one of my cousin.

        "Coming..." With that I ran to reach them. But suddenly black dots appeared on my eyes and I lost balance before I could kiss the ground, he held me. Adith Srinivas.

       "Are you alright..?" He asked me while I was lost in his dangerous eye pools, deep and dark.

           "I know you were crushing on me, but you don't have to follow me everywhere." He told and winked at me.

             "Excuse me... Mind your words. I'm not here for you instead I came to pray and break my fast for my husband." I told him annoyed.

            "You're married?" His all cool and teasing demeanor changed to rigid and tensed when he asked me that.

          "No... It's a ritual. I had to fast for my future husband. " I told him regaining my composure. With a silly smile playing on his lips he told me "You are looking so funny in this Saree."

             For some reason that made me feel so sad and uncomfortable, a very handsome man whom I were crushing on found me funny gave me a most terrible feeling.

         I turned around and walked to my cousins with a foul mood. I didn't know why I was attracted to him? Why I felt bad when he thought I wasn't so appealing?

         He was the most beautiful man I saw in my life and I liked him so much. I lost my appetite and I broke my fast only to gain some energy that day.

End of the flashback.....

PRESENT DAY:

                   I hit back to reality when someone shook me, it was Adith. He was holding an arrogant smirk " You are doing all this to gain my sympathy isn't it?" He asked me.

        I pulled myself away from his grip and blinked to get my consciousness. " You are a very good actor Krisha." Told Adith but I didn't reply. With a small smile and turned to open the door.

                 "I want you to die Krisha, I just want to see you die in front of my eyes." I didn't turn when Adith told me that instead left his cabin without even sparing him a glance.

         "If you really wanted me to die then you wouldn't have held me when I was about to fall down Adith. I know you still love me." I thought and left my work place.

    "Hate me all you want Adith but I still love you." I told looking at his picture in my mobile.
