Chapter Thirteen: Anti's Place

Sean yelped, clinging to Natemare's sides in a death grip. Everything was a blur of color and heat as the bike sped off onto the road. The tires flared into wheels of pure fire and the roar of the engine rattled Sean to the core. Peeking over Natemare's shoulder, Sean found it more tolerable that the things in front of the bike weren't a blur. Natemare navigated the highway must like Dark could in his car, but with one major difference. Natemare's bike was smaller than half the cars on the highway and the demons seemed to like the challenge of trying to run him off the road. Natemare rocked his foot on the pedal to shift the bike up and down as vehicles swerved around him. Sean screamed as truck sped up next to them and swerved to slam into their side to pin them against the guard rail. For a second Sean saw his life flash before his eyes, seconds before the vehicle went right through them and slammed into the rail. The sounds of squealing tires and crunching metal deafened Sean. Natemare's bike flawlessly moved through the vehicle as if it were a ghost, surprising Sean. After flinching from passing through metal, Sean looked at Natemare and gasped in surprise. Natemare looked different now. His body was smoldering with black smoke like he was more ghost than solid.

Natemare's eyes rippled with purple flames that streaked down his cheeks and his ears grew out into smoky black points, while his fingers lengthened eerily with sharp claws at the ends. Another vehicle started to swerve toward Natemare, until Natemare looked at him and opened his mouth to expose an overly large mouth with glowing white rows of sharp teeth. The demon driving screamed, yanking his wheel away which caused him to slam into another vehicle on his other side. Natemare watched the car crash with a frightening grin, before turning his eyes back onto the road. Shifting his bike to go faster, Natemare let out a distorted cheer of excitement. Sean wanted to yell how crazy he was but found himself laughing. Natemare looked over his shoulder briefly to lock eyes with him with a smaller smile, then shifted the bike into a tight drifting turn. The bike leaned so close to the pavement that Sean could smell the heated pavement. He almost fell off, until Natemare reached back to keep him up a bit longer. Adjusting the bike upright, Natemare touched something on his bike, causing it to pulse with a heavy base to music that Sean didn't understand. The pounding bass drowned out the sounds of other vehicles and was perfectly timed with the roar of the bike's engine. It made Sean smirk to see Natemare tap his heel on the pedal to the beat. If he was singing, he couldn't hear it.

Before too long, Natemare was slowing the bike to turn off down a road that no other vehicles were taking. Compared to the paved highway, this road was little more than dusty dirt. Natemare gradually slowed his back down from the crazy speed of the highway, until Sean could see scenery again. For miles in every direction was an open field of brown grass. While the sky here was so clear with smeared golden light where the ground met the sky that blended into bright red skies, that itself faded to a soft black. The sight reminded him heavily of a less lush version of Ireland. It was beautiful in its own strange way. It gave off a dark sunset vibe. Full of mystery and its own comforting peace in this crazy world. Natemare's body changed back to normal, his features taking in the beautiful view with distant dark brown eyes. Sean could tell that he'd been here before. A lot. Tapping his shoulder, Sean asked him over the fading music and soft purr of the engine. "Why are we here?" Natemare smirked back at him, before pointing to something ahead as he calmly told him. "This is Anti's favorite place." Sean followed his finger to a structure he recognized in the distance. Stonehenge.

Natemare slowed to a stop a good distance away, turning off the engine before adding coolly. "Anti comes here when he's upset or wants to be alone. Dark doesn't even know about this place. Too far out in the country for his liking. But for Anti... He's someone else out here. Calmer." Climbing off the bike, Sean slowly walked toward the structure, uttering out to himself. "I can see why. It feels... different here. Reminds me of... home." Natemare walked past him, lightly chuckling out. "Ireland? Ya. Anti used to talk about how all Ireland looked like this." Walking up to a stone, Natemare touched it, adding with distant smile. "Anti once told me that he felt less... scattered here. He glitched less here and wasn't so restless. So, I promised him that I wouldn't tell Dark this is where he'd run off too. I wanted him to feel safe here." Sean smiled to himself, happily telling Natemare. "Thank you." Natemare gave him a confused look. So, Sean shrugged out. "For keeping this secret for him. Thank you." Natemare snorted with a tiny smile, looking away as he mumbled out. "Anti would beat you senseless for thinking he needs this place." Walking into the center of the circle structure, Sean cooed out openly. "I can't explain it. But I know he does. I can feel it... This place means more to him than anything he owns."

Seeing the large flat stone in the center of the stone structure, Sean reached out to run his hand over the smooth surface. As the thought came to mind, he asked Natemare curiously. "Natemare? Was this structure always here? Or did Anti build it? Cause this is in my world..." Natemare was distracted now. Walking around the circle as he looked for something and said aloud. "No. This was always here. It is one of many ancient structures that allows us to cross worlds." Tapping a finger on the stone, Sean cautiously retorted. "Dark doesn't need one of these." Chuckling, Natemare bluntly told him. "Of course not. Dark can travel through darkness itself. Makes traveling easy for him. Just as I can travel through dreams. That isn't the case for a lot of demons though. They'd have to use stuff like this during particular times of the year to travel. Can be a real pain in the ass." Sean inhaled slowly, mumbling out to himself. "They didn't sacrifice virgins... They were sacrificing vessels." Natemare blinked, leaning around a rock to ask curiously. "You say something?" Sean looked over at Natemare with a stunned expression that faded as Natemare's eyes suddenly turned a blazing purple. Natemare called his name and lunged forward. Sean briefly saw something flash over the flat stone mere seconds before something slammed into him and sent him skidding across the grass.

Gasping, Sean jerked upright in time to see a man standing on the flat stone now. The man's cape billowed in the wind that was coming from a cut in the world behind him. Natemare leapt toward the man, but the man quickly raised a hand toward Natemare to stop him mid leap and then with his other hand pushed a magical circle that shot forward to hit Natemare in the chest to knock him away. Coughing, Sean scrambled up to his feet, but the man jumped off the flat stone and clapped his hands together. Upon pulling his hands apart a magic circle with strange symbols on it appeared and grew larger the farther away his hands got. Sean stared in awe of it, then yelped as the man pushed the circle out at him. The circle slammed into him, knocking Sean back across the ground where the circle burned into the ground with him in the center of it. The man quickly strolled over, yelling out at him. "Alright, demon! Now you are at MY mercy!" Rolling out of the circle, Sean coughed out. "What?! Who are you?!" The man staggered back, timidly blurting out. "What...? How did you get out?! That should have-!" Sean stopped breathing as Anti glitched behind the man. His tail flicking angrily behind him as he hissed over the man's shoulder. "Missed me."

The man turned his head, his dark hood falling back to reveal a white cat mask over his face and long bright green hair tied back into ponytail. Anti snatched the man's throat and whiplashed him back toward the flat stone. The man tumbled across the flat stone roughly with a cry of pain. Sean gasped out Anti's name, watching Anti glitch as he limped toward the stone. The man on the stone sat up and yelled out bitterly. "You won't escape, beast!" Anti's body began sparking with green static as he hissed out. "I'm gonna rip you apart." Anti leapt with his sharp nails at the ready, but the man jerked his arms up to aim at Anti. The man's long sleeves fell back to show glowing tattoos spiraled up his arms that pulsed and shot a bright energy at Anti's chest. Anti's took the hit, but managed to twist in the air to kick the man back through the cut in the world. The second the man fell through the cut it sealed up in a flash. Leaving Anti to fall heavily down onto the stone and vomit blood. From somewhere nearby Sean heard Natemare scream Anti's name, but he sounded distressed. Rushing up to his feet, Sean ran over to Anti and skidded to a stop inches from him. Anti weakly glared up at him with flashing green eyes that faded to blue. Anti panted hard, his claws digging into the stone defensively.

Natemare yelled for Sean to get back, but Sean couldn't move away. Anti looked angry but he looked too hurt to really move. Extending his hand out toward him, Sean whispered to him. "Anti? It's ok..." Anti hissed, swatting Sean's hand away so violently that Anti fell off the stone to the ground in a whimpering thud. Sean stayed still, feeling helpless as Anti trembled and then went deathly still. Easing down, Sean put a hand on Anti's shoulder. He expected him to lash out, but he didn't. Quickly pressing a finger to Anti's neck, he felt his heartbeat and called out. "Natemare! Come quick! He's hurt!" Natemare snarled, yelling out. "GET ME OUT OF THIS!" Glancing to Natemare, Sean's eyes widened. Natemare was standing in a magic circle and any time he tried to get out it would knock him back. Not waiting, Sean rushed over and looked over the glowing circle. Natemare banged on the invisible force field that kept him in, yelling out. "Hurry! Get me out!" Unsure what to do, Sean dropped to his knees and clawed at the circle as it pulsed over the ground. The moment he dug the dirt to break the circle, Natemare dashed out and panted out to him. "Who the fuck was that... Son of a bitch!" Sean could only shrug, then stammered out as he pointed to Anti. "N-n-natemare!"

Natemare whirled around as two imps were trying to drag Anti's unconscious body away quickly across the field. Turning into his ghostly form, Natemare let out a vicious snarl and flew after them like vile shadow. The imps screamed, trying to flee faster. They managed to stay just ahead of Natemare until other demons sprang out of the grass to try snatching Anti. When they couldn't pull Anti away, the demons started to fight each other. They tore at each other until the brown grass was coated in blood. Anti was dropped into the grass, while the demons fought in a blur of moment. Sean got to his feet, feeling torn between what the right thing to do was. Leave or... Taking a deep breath, Sean dashed across the field to grab Anti. The demons were all too busy fighting to notice him. So, he hefted Anti over his shoulder and ran for Natemare's bike. Stumbling, Sean cursed how far away Natemare's bike was. The sudden growling in the grass caused Sean to breathe faster. More demons were surrounding him. He didn't know what to do. He thought about calling for Dark, but on his shoulder, Anti let out a shrill strained whistle. The growling stopped as the roar of a sudden engine filled the air. Natemare's voice yelled out from somewhere them. "GO! I'll catch up! FIND DARK, SEAN!"

Demons screamed as a neon green motorcycle with black leather seats and bright flaming blue tires seared through the grass. Drifting right up next to them before revving its engine and causing the clear chrome to bubble with a strange green liquid. The front of the bike had a large black eyeball fixed into it with a slitted neon green iris. Sean took a step back, but Anti rolled weakly off his shoulder and hissed out. "What are you waiting for?!" Sean bounced in place uneasily but quickly swung onto it. Anti weakly climbed on behind him, ordering firmly. "Take the bars!" Grabbing the strange handlebars, Sean shakily yelled out. "I can drive this!" Anti scoffed behind him, laying his hands over Sean's as he hissed into his ear. "You better fucking learn, boy!" Anti's fingers tugged back a lever and his foot slammed down on a pedal, causing the bike to shoot forward. Sean screamed. The bike was out of control. It was fast but wavering on and off the dirt road. Sean struggled to understand what Anti was thinking, when Anti weakly spoke into his ear. "I can't hold it... Take over before we spin out..." Sean shook his head but saw Anti's fingers shaking on the lever. He wasn't in any condition to drive. Biting his lip, Sean gripped the lever as Anti eased off it and replaced his foot on the pedal as Anti moved his foot off. Taking over control, Sean steering the bike back onto the ride better and tried to breathe slowly.

Behind him, Anti limply leaned against him, straining out. "They are coming for me..." Glancing at the mirror, he saw a few demons flying after them and gaining. Shaking a little, Sean yelled out over his shoulder. "Anti, I can't do this!" Anti weakly glared at him through one of the mirrors, snarling out. "We're not related... Just GO!" Anti's eyes began to bleed, but he gripped the lever to pull it flat against the handle. The bike sped up and all Sean could do was focus on not hitting anything. Even when Anti's grip lightened, Sean held the lever to the bar and kept going. The demons gained on them reaching out for the tire and seat. Anti fended them off, snapping out. "Shift up!" Sean shrugged, yelling back. "How?!" Groaning, Anti placed his hands over his and told him sternly. "Take your foot off the pedal for a second and watch." Sean moved his foot back, keeping them centered on the road as Anti used the lever and handle to rev the bike up to the next gear before slamming his foot on the pedal. Sean took back control as Anti lost his grip on the controls. The bike's tires flared to life as it headed into a turn. Leaning into the turn, Sean revved the engine to merge into the highway traffic. The demons squealed, flying in different directions to avoid cars as Sean eased between vehicles to try and lose them.

Anti coughed behind him, resorting to holding onto Sean to keep from falling off the bike. Feeling how out of sorts Anti was sparked adrenaline through Sean's veins. He had to get back to Dark. Taking a deep breath, Sean told himself. "Ok. How hard could it be..." Straightening up, he yelled out. "Anti! Hold on!" Anti's arms weakly gripped his belt, while Sean glanced back to see a demon gaining up on his side. Shifting as Anti had shown him, Sean steered to bit closer to a car until the demon had to back off or get squished between them. The demon in the car did a doubletake of them and slammed on the brakes, causing one of the demons to shatter through the demon's back window. Anti watched the demon get eaten in the car, while uttering aloud over Sean's shoulder. "Not bad. But more are coming..." Sean glanced at the mirrors briefly, stating aloud for Anti. "Alright. Let's see if they can keep up." Sean revved the engine, the wheels squealing on the pavement enough to leave sparks behind them. If they wanted Anti, they'd have to catch them first. To Be Continued...
