Chapter Nine: "Something Old"

Sean gawked at Dark for a moment, before huffing out. "Ya... right." Walking around the car, Sean tried to hand the keys back, but Dark stepped back from him. Becoming uneasy, Sean told Dark seriously. "It's a nice gesture, but I can't accept it. It's your car. It's apart of the collection you have here." Dark rolled his eyes, shooting back. "I can easily get another to sit in a garage. She should be with you." Sean shook his head, mumbling out embarrassed. "Damien, I can't accept. I... I can't drive." Damien took Sean's hand, curling Sean's fingers back over the keys, before leaning in to tell him. "I know. But that doesn't change the fact that I'm giving her to you. Besides... I made a few... upgrades for ya. Hop in." Dark released his hand, opening the car driver door and gesturing him inside. Sean didn't move toward the car. Instead, he mumbled out. "Wheel is on the wrong side. Dark, I-" Dark gestured again, cutting him off to say firmly. "Get in or I'll grab the back of your neck and put you in it." Sighing, Sean inched forward and slide inside hesitantly. Sitting inside brought back memories for Sean that made him smile. Dark told him to put the key into the ignition and Sean obeyed with a fading smile.

The engine roared to life, and Dark pressed a button that made the soft top roll back on its own. Giving him a grin, Dark told him casually. "There is your brake. Your go pedal. And the clutch." Sean groaned, mumbling to himself. "A stick shift... Oh great..." Chuckling, Dark told him sweetly. "I'll walk you through it." Sean rolled his eyes, telling him flatly. "I'm going to ruin it..." Dark tapped the side of the door, saying aloud. "What do you have to say about that?" Sean blinked with confusion, until from the speakers a soft feminine voice answered. "Not a chance of that happening." Sean jumped in the seat, blurting out. "Son of a bitch!" From the speakers, she laughed and corrected. "Nope. Daughter of a serial killer. Killed by a car and trapped inside a program in service to Darkiplier inside a car. Though I do see the irony in it..." Sean's eyes drifted to Dark, who told him with a shrug. "It's fine. She's a suicide case. In my realm, I run a service program. When she completes the program. I'll release her. Besides, she's only here because I'm trying to get her father to sell his soul... He's the one I want." Sean didn't feel any better by that, but the car snorted out. "Aww, the look on his face is so cute. I think he's worried about me. Sean, was it? Don't worry. I've been on a waiting list for over sixteen years. I'm excited to do this. We're gonna be good friends."

Sean raised an eyebrow, asking nervously. "Will we? Because I would think you would try to..." The car laughed, telling him coolly. "Not a chance. I am one of the lucky ones. Dark, agreed to cut my program short if I take care of you. Besides, the last thing I want to do is to give Darkiplier and AntiSepticEye a reason to keep my ass in this place... in even worse conditions. So where do you wanna go?" Dark patted Sean's shoulder, then moved around the car to slide into the passenger seat as he answered. "Into town. The sinful bakery." The car locked the doors, answering promptly. "Will do. He is driving, or am I?" Sean pointed to the car, but Dark told him casually. "Go on Sean. Give it a try. She won't let you crash." Sean inhaled, then exhaled out. "Oh, sweet jesus..." Dark rolled his eyes, relaxing as he told him. "Don't ask for his help. He never drove a car. Besides, how much trouble can you get into with the devil riding shotgun?" Sean chuckled, gripping the wheel and shifting his feet to find the gas pedal. The car's stick shifted for him into drive, just as his foot pressed the gas. He cursed that he'd forgotten, but the car happily told him. "I got you. Relax. There are worse drivers than you on the road." Sean glanced at Dark, grumbling out. "That is not reassuring." Dark just laughed.

Sean eased out of the garage and the car told him directions to help him navigate. Dark sat quietly, watching the things around them. Sean was thankful that they didn't have to get onto the highway. So, he cruised the roads leading to the town. It was empty for a bit, then traffic started to file in. Sean got nervous, but the car picked up the slack whenever he panicked or couldn't think fast enough. The traffic was rather calm besides people honking and flicking others off. However, none of them did it to Sean. In fact, most of the demons got out of his way whenever able to. Bowing as he drove by. Sean pulled into a parking spot, Sean relaxed back and sighed out. "Fuck that was scary... but fun." Dark smirked, easing out of the car as he told him. "You should see what Anti drives..." The car laughed, pipping in. "Ya. Hard to believe they are the same person." Sean rolled his eyes, easing out of the car to follow Dark inside the bakery that smelled heavily of chocolate and sugar. Entering the building, the albino imp on the counter asked in greeting. "Good evening, Highness! How may I help you?" Dark leaned back against the wall, telling him in a gruff voice. "Cake. Wedding cake samples." The imp perked up, his little shabby wings twinging as he uttered out with watery eyes. "And you came to MY shop? I'm honored. Highness."

Dark lifted his chin, telling him sternly. "Don't get ahead of yourself. I've been to six bakeries this morning. All... disappointing." The imp swallowed nervously but puffed himself up and said. "I will not disappoint, Highness. Just a moment." The imp leapt off the counter, flying into the back and yelling to others in a language that Sean didn't understand. Sean waited, then looked to Dark and whispered. "You lied to him..." Dark smirked, telling him softly. "Of course. He'd get a big head if he thought he was special. Easier to bring out their best when they think I'll move on at the slightest displeasure." Sean opened his mouth but stopped when the imp returned with a silver plater with little square cake pieces. He held it up to Dark, but Dark pushed the tray toward Sean, his eyes glaring into the timid imp. The imp quickly switched to Sean, telling him excitedly. "Apologies. Here. These are my best. If these don't satisfy. I can customize one to suit your tastes." Sean picked up a little square with a vanilla center and chocolate outside. Putting it into his mouth, he chewed, and the imp's eyes grew bigger like he was afraid of what he'd say. Looking away from the imp, Sean told Dark softly. "Not bad. I like it." The imp exhaled, until Dark reached out to take a piece that was the same.

Dark tried it, his face unreadable. Sean noticed that the Imp's skinny legs trembled as he watched Dark. Dark seemed to savor it, then pulled a napkin from a table and spit it out. Tossing it into the trash, Dark grumbled out to the Imp. "The center is not to my liking. Too... moist." The imp let out a tiny, frightened squeak. Holding the tray higher to Sean as he pleaded. "Pick another! I'm sure you will find one." Sean picked another but though he liked it, Dark still didn't. The imp trembled on his little hooves, pleading more and more for Sean to keep trying. When they were down to two pieces, Sean inhaled and tried the most colorful of the group. It was a strawberry cake with a banana cream layer and glazed in thick chocolate. He was surprised by the flavors that burst over his tongue. Grinning, Sean told Dark bluntly. "I don't care if you don't like this one. I like it. It's... fresh and yet the chocolate adds something to it. The imp grinned, then flinched as Dark took a piece to try. Dark inspected the piece, then ate it. The imp and Sean both didn't breathe. Then for the first time, Dark swallowed it and said proudly. "I like it. Make plenty for the realm and a separate three layer for our personal consumption." The imp looked like he might cry as he hugged the plater close to his body and bowed as he said. "As you wish, Highness. I will begin at once."

Dark grabbed Sean's arm, telling the imp seriously. "My treasurer will be by to pay you for the job when you finish the order." Leading Sean out, Dark smirked at Sean. Rolling his eyes, Sean bluntly asked him. "Why did you do that to him? He was scared out of his mind and... you wasted so much cake..." Dark tapped the underside of Sean's chin, telling him seriously. "They have to fear me. Or they will not respect me. And if I said that I liked everything... they wouldn't try so hard to win my favor. Besides... I was waiting for you to tell me what YOU wanted." Sean crossed his arms, muttering out. "But did you even like it? Because if you didn't, then I'm marching you right back-" Dark grabbed his jaw, giving his a quick kiss, before whispering to him. "I like them all. That is why I brought you here. This is where I get all my cakes. He just doesn't know that." Getting back into the car, Sean let Dark command the car on where to go next. They went to get Sean a suit from a man that made a few of them for Dark. Each suit made from a rare animal thread that was as fine as silk but as tough as steel armor. Next, they went to the invitation shop. Dark mostly handled that. Since everyone in his realm was going to get one and it needed to look... intimidating to refuse but friendly enough to imply free food and drinks. By the time they were entering the last place, it was getting late. So, they decided to make this the last stop.

This place made Dark nervous. He'd been many places for many different reasons. However, he'd never been in here. The ring shop was massive with barred cases with glittering jewelry. Dark eyed the cases, telling Sean softly. "Pick the ring you want." Crouching to look in a case, Sean replied shortly. "Rings. You need to wear one too." Dark snorted, admitting coolly. "I'm not much of a ring wearer. They get in the way. Hard to clean blood off of." Sean bit his lip, thinking about that with slight worry. Rising, he told him hopefully. "Just one? Learn to punish people with your other hand." Dark chuckled, rolling his eyes. Sean laughed softly, wandering down the rows of barred cases. There were a lot of diamond rings and rings with gold, but he wasn't interested in the flashy. When a grey imp saw him struggling, he flew over to him and asked him curiously. "Need some help?" Sean shrugged, answering meekly. "Just looking for something... nice without the flash. You know?" The imp glanced at Dark, who wasn't looking at them, before grinning out. "Ya. I know what you mean. Come. What you want is over here." Sean followed him over to a case that held mostly silver bands with darker gems and more masculine rings.

Sean peeked around the case, while the imp walked behind the case, his body barely visible as he told him. "These are more your style?" Sean nodded, trying to see what stuck out at him. From the side, the imp rushed out and purred out. "Might I suggest something? Something... befitting your lovers' taste?" Sean started to glance at Dark, but the imp quickly drew his attention back by rushing out. "Here. Look." Sean looked down at the little black box and the imp opened it slowly to reveal the silver band with a dark purple gem. Sean raised an eyebrow, glancing at the case with light suspicion. Why was this ring in a box? The others weren't. The imp carefully took his hand in a fleeting grip and cooed out. "It's more special than those. Crafted by hand in the old forges of Darkiplier's realm. He will gush at its splendor since so few were made. If you wear this. You will be the envy of all." Sean wasn't sure he believed that, but while the imp talked, he slipped the ring out of the box and eased it onto Sean's ring finger. The metal was cool to the touch and was loose enough that Sean thought it would slip right back off his finger. Only once it was up high enough, the band shrank to hug his finger perfectly.

Lifting his hand from the imp's hand, he admired the ring as the metal glinted in the light. Only to stare perplexed as bits of the metal flaked away to reveal strange runes carved along the band. When he looked at the purple gem, the inside began to glow to reveal a symbol hidden in its depths. He was about to ask what they meant, when the ring suddenly tightened and seemed to pierce his flesh. A yelp left Sean and the imp quickly snatch Sean's hand, but not to remove it. The imp watched the runes on the side of the band fill with Sean's blood. Once his blood had filled the enclosed engraved runes, the imp started to laugh and told Sean. "It's done. Sean. Anti's vessel..." The imp laughed a little more, then stopped sharply. His floppy ears falling back along his back and his eyes widening in horror. Sean glanced back to see Dark was behind him now. The imp squealed, dashing for the door and causing other demons to scramble away from him. Dark raised a hand, the doors slamming shut before the imp could get out. The imp slammed into the doors, squealing in terror, before turning and screaming as Dark appeared behind him. The imp tried to run, but Dark casually stepped on his tail. The imp fell flat, then rushed to try biting his tail off. Only for Dark to grip the back of its neck, his grip tightening and pinning the imp's face to the floor.

The imp screamed, until Dark growled out. "What did you do to him?" The imp whimpered, telling him through a straggled voice. "I tell you and I'm dead..." Dark's eyes flared into red and blue flames when he snarled out. "Don't tell me and I will torture you so slowly that you'll long for death! TALK!" Imp shut his mouth, causing Dark to growl loud enough that the windows rattled. Dark shifted his weight on the imp's tail more and Sean flinched as he heard bones pop one after another in slow sequence. The imp squirmed and screamed before shakingly belting out. "OK! It's a vessel shackle! He belongs to the one that holds its master ring. I was ordered to put it on him! He wants Anti! Only Anti!" Dark placed a hand on the imp that started to sear the imp's flesh, yelling out. "WHO SENT YOU?!" The imp screamed from the burns, before screaming out. "NICON!" Dark stopped, starting to sit up off the imp. The imp panted and whined in pain. Dark's whole body tensed, before he growled out. "He wants Anti... And you gave him to him?" The imp swallowed, then flipped over to run. Dark followed him with the turn of his head. Just as the imp leapt over a case to run for the backdoor, the imp burst into flames.

The other demons trembled in the corners of theroom, averting their eyes from Dark's murderous gaze. When he turned to face Sean, his expressionsoftened a bit. Sean rose to his feet, trying to remove the ring. Every time hetried to remove it; the ring tightened to the bone to keep from coming off. Looking up at Dark, he asked him nervously. "Damien... What do we do?" Dark moved closer to look at the ring. Then with a heavy sigh, he told Seanseriously. "I'm not sure. I haven't seenthis kind of stuff in... centuries... I thought I had destroyed them all. But... Imight know someone who remembers." Seanshrugged, asking a little desperately. "Who?" Dark cupped Sean's ring hand between his ownhands, before telling him in a low deep tone of voice. "Thanatos. Son of Khaos. Master of Death. Butyou'd know him as the Grim Reaper." ToBe Continued...
