Part 46
Bloody Mary.
No, I am not swearing, it is the drink my husband, oops my date ordered for me.
Holding the glass, I turned it around. Beautiful red, styled with mint leaves at the edge. I don't know, how it will taste, but by the looks of it, it's definitely exotic.
I eyed Rohit. He was looking into his glass with utter interest. Only he knew what he ordered.
"So.." He clasped his hands and continued, "What made you go for Fashion Designing, Hridhhtita?" What? Is it some sort of interview? I blinked at him as he grinned at me. "Come on, it's our first date after all. Isn't it a obvious question?" Oh yes, obvious.
But what do I answer? I mean I never gave a thought it. I had simply wanted to do something no one in my family did. And stitching and sewing was something I was gifted with. Just like Puchu Di with her culinary skills. So, I started it. In that way, I also stopped everyone from comparing me everyone else. I mean, with so many people in my age group in my family, Puchu Di, Jui, Chuni, Panna, I.. and also Rohit. Jui inherited Chruni Pishi's journalist traits, but could not escape the comparison of mother-daughter. Puchu Di, though a born baker, went for some very conventional course and invited elders' disappointment at some point of time. Chuni, Panna and Rohit, well it was known they would opt for engineering. No, no way I could do the same. Fashion technology, for me has been an escape to then. I went for it with my heart and soul.
But obviously, I can't say all these to him. Rohit and all his cousins had went for different departments in engineering, and had undoubtedly faced a lot of comparison. Which, I doubt was more like a competition.
"Hridhhita, is my question really that difficult?" Though his tone was sugar coated, but the interest in his eyes were genuine.
"I don't know. May be, I always wanted to design my own dresses. May be that led to... You know." I made up simply. Huh! As if, you had to be honest in your first date. That too, something this personal.
"Design your own dress. Uh-uh. As much I remember from nursery to your post graduation, you were always in uniform. What did you want to design? Tunics?" He winked.
ONCE A JERK, ALWAYS A JERK.
Deciding to ignore his taunt, I asked him, "So, why did you opt for engineering? Because it's in trend?" He spluttered his drink. Ha ha..
"Everyone in my house is. Why not I? Why can't I?"
True. How could he not!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Topics changed, mood changed but feeling didn't. How could he be so sure this date thing is going to work? After all, even after all the effort we were doing what we do the best, 'taunting' each other. Phew!
"You know Hira, what was my second career option?" Rohit lunged forward with a new energy. "What?"
"Bartender. If not engineer, I would become a bartender."
WHAT!
