CHAPTER 15

Omkara walked into his house dialling Gauri at night. He sighed disappointedly when she didn't attend the call.

He was about to dial her number again, when he heard his mother's voice.

"Are you calling Gauri? Then sorry to say but she is not going to attend it." Jhanvi said as she stood with her arms crossed against her chest.

Omkara frowned hearing.

"Do you think after what you have done she is going to attend your call?" Jhanvi asked.

"Mom, I have an explanation and I'm sure Gauri will understand me. I wonder why she is not attending the call." Omkara said sighing.

"That's because her Mom asked her to do it."

Omkara looked at his mother shocked.

"You told her not to attend my call?" He asked in disbelief.

"Yes, because I know that my daughter-in-law is too good at heart and she is going to forgive you so easily and I don't want that. She is not going to disobey her Mom anyway." Jhanvi said shrugging.

"I should have guessed because Gauri will never stop talking to me on her own. Mom, why did you do that?" Omkara asked helplessly.

"So that you will not dare to repeat the same mistake again. I have been tolerating this for so long but I'm not going to let Gauri also tolerate the same." Jhanvi said glaring at her son.

"Mom, please listen to me. I was in an urgent meetin-"

"No, Om. Stop it. I don't want to hear your business related things. Business is important, I agree. But you have to understand that it is not important than your family, Om. I would not have said anything earlier but now I'm not going to stay silent. You cannot ignore Gauri for anything. She is your fiancée and within a few weeks she will become your wife. That poor girl was waiting for you the whole day and you..." Jhanvi stopped as she took a furious breath.

Omkara looked down in guilt.

"Mom, I'm sorry but..."

"If you should say sorry to someone then it is not me, it's Gauri. Instead of trying to convince me, try thinking of ways to convince her. It's not a tough task anyway. She is going to melt with just a sorry. I hope you will not let me down again, Om." Jhanvi said shaking her head before going to her room.

Omkara ran his fingers through his hair with a sigh.

Everything started a few days back, when he expressed his wish to see her under-construction boutique. They had decided to go there today evening.

Since Omkara had an urgent meeting late afternoon, he asked Gauri to wait for him at a cafe. It was a meeting regarding the Kapoors - who have been a headache for him since the past few months. The meeting lasted longer than expected and by the time he reached the cafe it was too late and Gauri was also gone. When he took his phone out to call her, he saw many missed calls from her as well as his mother.

When he called her, the phone was engaged. Few minutes later when he called her again, she didn't attend it. Guess the previous call was from his mother who advised her not to attend his call.

"Dammit!"

Next day morning, Anjali opened the door hearing the doorbell and got surprised seeing Omkara at the door.

"Good morning, Mumma." Omkara said smiling.

"Good morning, Om. What a pleasant surprise! Come inside." Anjali said smiling.

Omkara smiled and walked with her inside.

"Mom sent this for you." Omkara said extending a tiffin box to her.

"Vellayappam and Egg curry?" Anjali asked him excited.

"Yeah!"

Omkara grinned as she took the tiffin box from him with childlike excitement.

"It's been ages since I ate these made by your mother." Anjali said happily.

Omkara chuckled hearing her before his eyes travelled around searching  for someone.

"Om, Gauri is not at home." Anjali said noticing him looking around.

Omkara smiled nervously on being caught red handed.

Anjali smiled seeing that.

"She was saying she had some work at her boutique, so she left early in the morning with her father. If there is anything important then I will call her here." Anjali said.

"No, no. It's okay, Mumma. I will go there and meet her." He said quickly.

"Good morning, jeeju." Avanthika said as she came down the stairs.

"Good morning, Avanthi." Omkara said smiling.

"Di forgot her phone here. If you are going to meet her then can you give this to her?" Avanthika said forwarding the phone.

"Yeah, sure!" He said taking the phone from her.

"Solve the issue soon. She was upset yesterday and I don't like seeing my sister like that." Avanthika whispered to him.

Omkara looked at her hearing that.

"Even I don't like seeing her like that. I will solve it soon." He promised her.

Avanthika smiled.

"Rahul, where is Papa?" Gauri asked coming out of her cabin.

"He is in the main hall, ma'am. Omkara sir is here, so he is talking with him." Rahul said.

Gauri stopped hearing that.

"Gauri!" Vishaal called coming into the room along with Omkara.

Gauri slowly turned around and glanced at Omkara for a moment before she turned to her father.

"I won't be able to come with you today, Gauri. Om was saying he could accompany you." Vishaal said.

"It's okay, Papa. I will go alone. Why to disturb him?" Gauri said.

Omkara looked at her hearing that.

"I would be glad to accompany you, Gauri." Omkara said hoping she would atleast look at him for once.

"But-"

"Go with him, Gauri. He might help you with the purchasing too." Vishaal told her.

Soon Gauri and Omkara were on their way in his car.

Omkara occasionally looked at Gauri who refused to even spare him a glance. He tried talking to her a few times, but she wasn't ready to speak.

"Gauri!" Omkara called her again.

Gauri fisted her hands trying to control herself.

"Please talk to me, Gauri." He requested.

She sat as if she didn't hear him.

Omkara sighed and parked the car to a side.

"Gauri, you can shout at me, yell at me or even hit me if you want. Do whatever you want but please don't stop talking to me." Omkara said helplessly.

Omkara held her fisted palm in his hand.

Gauri turned to look at him but didn't say anything.

"I'm sorry, Gauri. I know it's my fault but please listen to me for once. No one is ready to listen to me but atleast you should let me give my explanation, Gauri." Omkara said in a pleading manner.

Gauri gulped and nodded her head.

Omkara sighed in relief and quickly briefed in about everything that happened.

"I know this doesn't erase the fact that I'm at fault. I should have rescheduled or even cancelled the meeting." He said regretfully.

"It's okay. Rescheduling and cancelling was not an option. It was such an important meeting-"

Gauri was cut off by Omkara.

"Nothing is more important than you for me, Gauri." Omkara said cupping her face.

Gauri looked at him in surprise hearing that.

"Not even me or anything else. If I had known the meeting would have lasted that long, I would have cancelled it without any thought, Gauri. Work used to be my first priority, but it changed when you came into my life. You taught me to keep my family the number one priority and I don't know how or when you became my priority.  But I promise, I will not repeat this again because you are and you will always be my first priority." Omkara told her.

Gauri's heart skipped a beat on hearing him as tears started filling her eyes.

"I'm sorry, Gauri. Please don't cry." Omkara said wiping her tears using his thumb.

Gauri quickly hugged him, who instantly wrapped his arms around her in a tight embrace.

"Can you forgive me for this once?" He asked.

Gauri nodded as she sniffed into his chest.

Omkara sighed in relief before he hugged her close to him.

Few minutes later, they parted from the hug.

Gauri was wiping her face using a tissue when she saw a rose in front of her. She turned to her side and saw Omkara holding it with a cute smile on his face. She took it from him and a second later a chocolate appeared in front of her. She smiled and took it too when another one appeared. The same thing happened again and again.

Gauri laughed out loud and said, "It's okay, Om. How many more chocolates are you gonna keep giving me?"

Omkara grinned and pointed towards the back seat.

Gauri curiously turned around and gasped seeing the back seat completely filled with flowers, chocolates, balloons and a few gift boxes.

"Did you go mad? Why did you do all this?" Gauri asked him shocked.

"Because I wished to please my fiancée who unfortunately was upset with me." He said smiling.

"You didn't have to you know." Gauri sighed.

"I know, Gauri. But I did this for myself. I know you wouldn't like any expensive gifts so I did what I felt like doing. I know this is too silly but I really wished to do something for you." Omkara said gently.

Gauri smiled before she pulled his cheeks.

"Why are you so sweet?" She asked.

"Shouldn't you be saying hot and sexy rather than sweet?" Omkara asked smirking.

Gauri rolled her eyes blushing.

"You do think too highly of yourself."

Omkara chuckled hearing that.

"Let's go?" He asked.

Gauri nodded with a smile.

Omkara smiled as he started the car. His mother was right. She did forgive him too easily. And why wouldn't she? She had such a pure heart. But he promised to himself that he would try his best to not hurt her ever again.

By evening, the purchasing was over. It was mostly to choose some furniture for her boutique.

Both of them decided to go to the beach for a walk.

Omkara, who was standing ashore, watched on with a smile as Gauri laughed when the waves hit her feet.

Gauri turned back and gestured him to come near her.

Omkara shook his head in no smiling.

Gauri rolled her eyes and moved forward as the waves hit her feet again.

The sounds of her laughter was giving him some kind of peace.

"Gauri, you are going too close." Omkara called out.

Gauri stopped and moved back a little. Few minutes later, she unknowingly started moving forward again.

"Gauri!" He called out.

But she didn't hear him.

Omkara sighed worriedly before removing his shoes and socks. He walked towards her and quickly held her hand.

Gauri turned to him surprised.

"Don't go too close. Come back a little." Omkara said leading her.

Gauri smiled seeing his concern and held his hand.

"Now that you are here, stay with me." She said smiling.

Omkara smiled hearing that.

Gauri giggled happily as the waves hit their feet while Omkara watched her lovingly.

"Omkara, let's move forward a little." She said.

"No, Gauri. It's not safe."

"But look at those people. They are standing way too far from here. I just want to move a little." Gauri said pouting.

"Gauri...."

Gauri didn't let him complete and dragged him forward.

"See there is no danger here." She said as a small wave hit their feet.

"There is no use arguing with you." Omkara said shaking his head.

Gauri grinned hearing that but was taken aback when a big wave hit them which made her lose her balance. She would have fallen if not for Omkara who quickly held her protectively.

"You okay, Gauri?" Omkara asked worried.

Gauri nodded trying to calm her rapidly beating heart.

Omkara sighed in relief.

"This is what I was telling you but you didn't want to listen anything." Omkara said frowning.

"Sorry." Gauri said feeling guilty.

"Come let's go back now." Omkara said making her stand properly.

"Few more-"

Gauri stopped when he gave her a pointed look.

Omkara walked back ashore holding her hand.

They stood there for a while so as to watch the sunset. After slipping on their footwears, they walked back to the car.

"Gauri, we'll have dinner from a restaurant and then I will drop you home. Is that okay?" Omkara asked her.

"Yeah!" Gauri said smiling.

After having dinner from a restaurant, he dropped her home.
