Chapter 40
Ishita's POV:
Gulping a glass of orange juice Maa explained whatever happened inside these four walls. Veronica crossed her legs sitting in front of me next to Armaan, not to lie they look good together. "So... is there anything else you need to get out of your chest before we get into this." "What do you mean?" she asked, narrowing her eyes at me. "It should be obvious to you that you will have no other option but to settle this. You have to give me alimony or Armaan". In frustration, Armaan rubbed his forehead. Every seed you sow will eventually yield a harvest.
"So, you decided to sit on your ass for three years instead of coming back sooner." Armaan looked up and uttered, "Doesn't it make it obvious that she knew that after I got married it won't be easy for me to back off." I shrugged. Veronica spoke in between, "You guys can have your time to get your attorneys team and discuss things before taking any decision." I sighed, "I'm going to tell Ritika to book you a hotel or a rental place... I don't care. Till then we can get those marriage licenses reviewed by some lawyers and gather the whole Goel Family shareholders to see if we can get things arranged under one roof. But till then I don't wanna see your ass around here..." I stood up removing the cease from my dress.
She cackled awkwardly and asked, "Why hotel or rental place? I can live here... like eventually, this place would be mine, and..." Maa left a long sigh, of course, she couldn't stand the idea of seeing this face roaming around. "No... you're not staying here because I love to moan at the top of my lungs which you wouldn't like to hear in the middle of the night." Armaan blushed and stood up adjusting his coat. Veronica gave looks but couldn't find the word to express it, she turned and left the place clanking her heels.
Armaan turned to move away but Maa stopped him by grabbing him by his arm. I was confused by her actions but her words expressed it all. "Last time I told you to keep this drama away from my house." She glares at him. Armaan looked everywhere but not at her; Maa growled in anger "You will drag the Family name to mud and before you do that I will throw you out." He scrunched his nose in shock and confusion, "Mom... you can't be serious... it was a mistake. I loved her and kept doing reckless things to keep her but that doesn't mean you will throw me out now because of this." She gazed at him with no emotion, "I will talk with your dad today and ask him to throw you out of the will." She walked past him towards her room.
We both had eye contact, Armaan looked so distressed that he would probably faint or something. I approached him holding his arms, he uttered in a low voice "I'm sorry... I... don't know what else to say because of me you got stuck in so much..." placing a finger on his lip hushed him. He pecked on my forehead and walked upstairs towards our room. I followed behind him, he sits on the edge of the bed checking his phone. He looked up at me in disbelief, "During the trial, you threw a sandal at someone inside the courtroom in front of the judge..." I shrugged with a sheepish smile, "That someone was my father's lawyer who was trying to turn the gun points at me." he sighed, "I knew you were crazy but never had the idea to be this much."
I seated next to him holding his hand, he glimpsed at me from the corner of his eyes "Is something bothering you?". I looked up at him do I made it that obvious for him to figure it out. "Can you hug me?" he smiled and pulled me in a hug making me sit on his lap and rubbed my back. I needed that more than any consolation hiding my head on his shoulder his intoxicating cologne calmed my nerve. I could feel his tense muscles calm as well, separating from him I looked into his dark eyes carrying various emotions. He faked a smile and caressed my face pushing my hair back, "Don't worry everything will be fine..." I nodded in agreement and hugged him again. But something didn't feel alright...
Third Person's POV:
The next day in the evening, everyone gathered in the living room to discuss the issues created by Veronica. Armaan's dad Abhimanyu walked inside with a lawyer Ishita got the hint that this thing is serious. Yash nudged passing her a folder, "This has the copy of documents through which Veronica is making up the case..." she raised her brows, "What will I do with it?" he shrugged, "You already have one case going on... I thought maybe something will strike you because they all will not have any solution for this issue. And Armaan wouldn't agree to a settlement because he earned it with his hard work. This is a war..." she took the file from him.
It contained the marriage certificate which was signed by both of them and had the marriage registrar's signature as well. Ishita clicked a picture of it and reviewed the rest of the documents. Armaan walked downstairs wearing a casual denim outfit with sneakers, his face was all drained up and he looked like he has been sick for years. He sits next to Ishita and peeped down at the folder she was reviewing, taking it from her hand he passed it back to Yash and uttered sternly, "Don't stress over her for my mistakes she's already struggling with her father's case don't drag her in this." Ishita gave him a confused look, "Armaan... don't be like that it does concern me." She forwarded her hand to get the folder from Yash but he got a glare from Armaan and kept it behind his back gesturing that it vanished fooling a two-year-old kid. Ishita scrunched her nose and throws the cushion at him and sits back crossing her arms.
Armaan does have an intimidating personality his stare could get someone chills but it never concerned Ishita, she was made up of a different material or maybe the fact that he cares for her. Ishita leaned on his shoulder and rested her head on the crook of his neck. He caressed her hair looking silently straight at his father discussing with the lawyer. Ishita glimpsed at his handsome face and realized that she hates when he was stressed and sad over things. He pecks her forehead and murmured close to her ears, "I know what they are going to say but I want you to believe in me and keep the judgment part for me. Don't jump to a conclusion without me... please..." she nodded at his comment understandingly.
They discussed a few business-related things and then argued with Armaan for being careless. He fired back that if they would have agreed to it before then he wouldn't have to take such a step. Nayantara glanced at him and mentioned, "You'll never accept your mistake but point at us for not agreeing with you. Soon you will say that if I won't have a problem with her then you might have a happy family." Armaan huffs in frustration, "Maa please... I don't know what happened between you two in those days but please stop behaving like a child. I loved her and did reckless things to keep her with me agreeing with everything she wanted. I never had the idea that she could possibly do such a thing but that doesn't give you the right to judge me with the teenage version of myself. It's simple as that..."
He did have a point as we all have done childish things and got ourselves in trouble but that doesn't mean people will judge us from our past. Ishita noticed that Armaan's parents want their kids to be perfect in whatever thing they do which is quite impossible for someone to do everything right. We commit mistakes to learn from them and move on in life to achieve great things. But his parents want them to work perfectly even robots sometimes after malfunctioning do incoherent work then how can they expect their son to be a perfectionist?
Ishita glimpsed at his father fuming, he stood up "So you want us to sit back and let her take everything we worked for? Do you still have feelings for that girl? Get over it... Armaan she has been using you since forever how do you want me to prove to you that?". Armaan crossed his arms, "Dad... we can find a way if we would stop fighting and try to solve the issue." He sat back and asked his lawyer to proceed, he bowed low in respect and reveals, "Miss Veronica does have a valid marriage certificate making her your first wife and eligible for the thirty percent of the company. Her case revolves around the alimony she would get as the divorce settlement. But it would be hard to prove a failed marriage without a divorce settlement." Ishita glanced at Armaan's straight face she pouts sadly.
The lawyer glimpsed at her and added, "As currently, miss Ishita is your wife which can be useful on the legal terms. If she divorced you before Veronica and you agree in the court that Veronica is your current wife then we would be saved from the alimony as there's no such will for a second wife." they all heard the sound of glass breaking. Armaan threw his phone on the glass center table. Ishita flinched back while others were normal expecting something like this to happen.
He growled in anger, "Keep your ideas to yourself... no one needs it, and as far as it concerns divorcing to save myself from alimony. I'm not doing it even if you all end up on the streets..." Abhimanyu yelled, "Then I will throw you out of my will to save the rest of the family members from going bankrupt." He took a deep breath and uttered in a low, "Dad... it's not great optics. We can find another way to deal with it..." Abhimanyu cuts him off, "Do you have any idea except this then tell us we will ditch this idea and will do as you want?" Armaan turned silent at this he lowered his head and sits back.
Armaan sits back defeated and ran fingers through his hair infuriated, Nayantara asked the lawyer, "What will we say in the court for Veronica's disappearance after the engagement? And what about Ishita what will she get as the settlement?" Ishita looked at her in shock because she never thought that Nayantara would ever agree with it. Nayantara noticed her changed expression but didn't say anything because she had to save everyone not just his son's relationship. That's what she has done all these years as Mrs. Goel, binding the family together and being the wall for everyone trying to hurt her family members. Her responsibility came first then her son's relationship.
"We could make up any lie or just say that we gave time for her to grow in her modeling career. And if we talk about Ishita, she would get the thirty percent stake and the alimony which if she denied would be better for you guys." The lawyer mentioned. Ishita smiled sadly at her rotten faith, everyone in her life just stayed for the profit they can get from her. She was always the one abandoned first as her past repeated itself, she felt herself draining. No one cared about her feelings and emotions everyone thought that she was a cold-blooded self-absorbed girl who only knows to make herself rich. But Ishita did have a heart and wanted a few people in her life to understand that and give her priorities as well.
Armaan gripped her palm and rubbed her knuckles she felt a warm rush in her body. He looked at her and nodded, her smile widened with the thought that she has someone who understands her. She glimpsed at them and expressed, "I'm not divorcing him... neither I need any percentage or any settlement amount. So, find some another way to solve this issue or you all can suck it... I really don't care..." Yash suppressed his laugh but Aditya couldn't he cackled laughing and Abhimanyu glared at him.
Clearing their throat Abhimanyu suggested, "Ishita it would be better for your future as this marriage was forced on both of you and you two agreed on it seeing each other's profit-making it even. But this will not go long enough for a better life because eventually, you will need someone who can love and cherish you." Ishita faked a gag, "Don't say it like Armaan locks me in a room and tortures me with kinky toys because no he doesn't. I feel safe and cared for in his presence what else do I need?" she shrugged.
Armaan smiled glimpsing at her side profile, Abhimanyu glanced at Nayantara who got the idea to approach and make her agree with it. But something they all were ignoring is she's the most stubborn and crazy person than anyone else in the room. Nayantara mentioned, "Ishita this marriage was favorable for you and this divorce would be as well. What else do you want" Ishita blurted out, "Armaan..." they looked at each other. Nayantara chuckled awkwardly, "You aren't in love with him or something..." Ishita smirked and played with them, "What if I said yes? You're going to make me sign the divorce paper with a gun on my head." Abhimanyu got the hint that she was not going to agree with it at any cost and no one would be able to make her do anything unless she wants to do it.
He mentioned, "Fine then we will cut Armaan out of my will which will make him end up with nothing so if Veronica would ask for a divorce settlement, she might have to give him alimony instead." Armaan felt sad at this not because he was denied to be a part of the will but the fact that his family cares for their status more than he does. He glimpsed at Ishita with his side eyes and couldn't hurt her neither he could tolerate the humiliation. He asked his father softly, "Dad... is it worth more important than me?" Nayantara lowered her head avoiding her son's painful situation.
Abhimanyu mentioned, "No Armaan... but we can't risk everything to save you because Veronica tried to commit suicide last time. Our Family suffered being harassed in the media, treated like trash by acquaintances, and lost millions in the business. But you weren't with us rather you were trying to convince Veronica to change her mind. If you couldn't prioritize us then don't expect us to give you the same attention. For me, my responsibilities come before you or any other member. I couldn't let you drag Goel Families' name to the mud... again..." Armaan left a long sigh, "I think you're right Dad... I don't deserve to be priorities because once in my life I wanted to be happy and be with someone I loved rather than a son trying hard to make his parents proud. I did the mistake of giving myself attention and expecting love from the wrong person. But I would never accept that I left you guys in need because I did handle the business later and helped in growing the business."
He stood up with his hands in his pocket and added, "Goel Industries isn't just your hard work it is mine too but don't worry I wouldn't stand against you in the court or ruin the family image. You know what don't bother cutting me off the will... because I'm leaving Goel Industries and every firm under me. I don't need a name to prove my capabilities or be with a family who cares for their social image than their real son." They gasped in shock. Nayantara looked at him in utter shock with her hands on her mouth tears brimmed in her eyes. She stood up to stop Armaan but he walked past her taking the stairs up to his room.
Ishita looked at him leaving she wasn't even prepared for this, she thought he might agree with divorcing her or doing something else but he just gave up his everything and didn't agree to the divorce. She turned to follow him but Nayantara stopped her gripping her arms, she glared up at Ishita in anger "Make it stop... just divorce him it would save us all. I can't lose my son..." Nayantara busted into tears. Abhimanyu holds and tries to support Nayantara but she lost her mind. Nayantara stood in front of Ishita and pulls her harshly gripping her arms tightly, "Don't act as if you love him because you don't. I know everything about your relationship with him and the reason you married him. If not, today then someday this relationship would have to end because you both aren't a match. Don't let him go... I can't lose him..." Ishita tried to free her arm but every time Nayantara's grip tighten.
Ishita glared at her in anger hissing in pain and the next minute she explodes, "I do love him and I don't care if he doesn't... if you think you're losing your son because of another girl that entered his life. Then open your eyes if you still can because the real reason, he's leaving is you and your fucked up family. Because you people don't appreciate how much he has sacrificed for his family." She pushed Nayantara's hand away and turned glaring at Abhimanyu "I never had a good relationship with my father but I would proudly say that my father stood with me when I needed him. He didn't just cut me out of the will or throw me out of the house when I was trapped in someone's murder. My family also face dirty media but instead of blaming me for the incident they cared for my mental health and sent me to London. So don't think that he's the only one who ever did a mistake because you all kept repeating one." She gave them a last look and walked upstairs towards her room.
Abhimanyu and Nayantara glimpsed at each other digesting whatever she said was right. They sit back on the couch and looked at others for some bad words against Ishita or some heartfelt words but Yash stood up and showed the lawyer out, Aditya slipped out his phone and got back to his room, Deepika glanced at them then picked up the tray and head inside the kitchen.
