Mace & The Frog

Mace held his breath. He saw the small, slimy, neon green frog sit still. He was an expert of frogs and he knew that any sudden movement would scare his chances of befriending this amphibian. Well, it was common knowledge, but he still believed he was an expert. He knew he had to let this frog be, but after a cold six months, he just wanted to embrace this creature, even if it was a bit slimy.

With his eyes peering through his glasses, he monitored every move the frog made as he shifted to the other side of the bench. But to his surprise, the frog got closer to him. He tilted his head in question before standing up. Once again, the frog hopped in Mace's direction. He kneeled and cupped his hands, hoping the frog would hop into his hands. The frog looked up at Mace as he cracked a nervous smile. The frog turned around and hopped the other away.

"Hey! Come back! I just want to be your friend!" The frog made no stop, but instead sped up with Mace trailing behind him. "Please!" The frog made a sharp turn and entered a wooden log.

Mace came to a halt and peered intently at the mossy log; this frog was nothing compared to the other ones he's encountered. Mace kicked the ground, creating a cleaner space where he couldn't stain his clothes. He inspected the inside of the log. The frog sat, staring intensely at Mace, which made him gasp. Behind the amphibian was a purple glow. He looked above the log and then back inside. The light only came from the log. The frog let out a croak and jumped into the light. Mace squeezed himself into the dirty log to follow suit.

Mace's jaw dropped. The other side was beautiful. The world felt to ethereal; the skies were a beautiful shade of light purple, and so was the grass. The tree's leaves that dangled emitted an orange glow that illuminated a dark purple path. The frog hopped to Mace's shoe. He bent down and cupped his hand again. But this time, the frog hopped into his hands. The frog's eye was a dark purple, and so were the amphibian's small toes. He chuckled at the sight. He booped the nose of his new counterpart. His friend croaked and freed himself of Mace's embrace. The frog continued the journey down the path, and Mace raced behind.

He glanced at the world around him as he sprinted. This world was so fanciful; the land was painted in the glowing colors of purple and oranges. There were other creatures that fit this color scheme, too. Rabbits had fluffy purple fur with orange cotton ball tails; the bee's iconic yellow and black stripes were replaced with pastel oranges and purples; and the snakes had radiating orange scales.

The frog came to a sudden stop. An aqua blue sea was placed in front of the duo. Mace came to a pause and thought for a moment. Shouldn't the sea be purple? He glanced down at the frog, hoping for an answer. A croak, a jump, anything. The frogs was as stiff as a statue; staring off into the distance with no movement. Mace looked back at the sea. The aqua blue waves crashed on shore. It wasn't right. He ambled twords the hard hitting riptide. He felt the insides of his stomach twirl and his head felt as if it was on it's way to being squished. He thought it was his anxiety heightening, but his muscles stiffened as he saw an enormous, purple swirl swallow the blue of the ocean.

The swirl eliminated the normal blue and replaced it with an elegant shade of lavender. The fish jumped as the sea fit the terrain's color pallette. The silhouette of a female burst through, going several feet high before landing right in front of Mace on her own two feet. He let out a screech.

“Who are you? And, and where did, where did you come from?”
“Me? Oh, well I'm Purple. Purple Sea.” This girl was drenched in water. She had long, wavy hair. Her skin was lighter than her dark purple hair with an orange fish shaped hair clip, and had fierce orange red eyes. She had a slim figure hid behind a baggy sweater that was light blue and sprinkled with purple triangles. She made the sand at her feet soggy.
"Oh, well, original name. I'm Mace. What were you doing in the sea?"
"Well, you see, I was trapped. For a long time, actually. I was at the bottom, until you set me free!" She pulled Mace into a soggy, wet hug. He didn't hug back. She's so wet, he thought.
"Who put you there?" Mace asked. She let her free of her embrace. Instead of replying, she tapped her foot and squinted her eyes in thought. She never really knew that herself. After decades of being asleep at the bottom of a sea, she couldn't generate an answer for him.
"How did you get here?" Purple asked in return. "Not many people had been here before. Before I was shoved at the bottom of the sea, I mean."
"I followed a frog here. That's it, really. I like frogs, it's kind of my thing." He nervously chuckled and scratched the back of his head.
"Well, there seems to be more behind you. Look!"

Mace looked behind him. Purple was right; a cluster of animals stood behind him, many he pasted on the way. Purple grabbed his arm and pulled him to the side. The animals scrambled to the now lavender shore. "Look Mace," said Purple. "You saved them. And you saved me, I am now forever in your debt."
