11- Don't Call Me Lenie
"Gryffindor has a new line up this year," a rather mouthy fourth year boy was doing the commentary for the match. "Captained by Kathryn Gordon, we have Herbet, Clearwater and Winston plus new additions Potter, Gudgeon and McKinnon."
The team were walking out onto the field for their first match of the year, which was against Ravenclaw.
Marlene knew that her parents were up in the stands somewhere, and knew that this match would've been a cause of much arguing between the two, in the weeks leading up to it, as both of them harboured some quite strong house pride.
The commentator read out the names of the Ravenclaw side as the players got into their positions, ready to start the match.
As soon as the Referee blew the whistle, Marlene kicked off. She hoisted her beaters bat and zoomed in the direction of a Bludger. She whacked it as hard as she could in the direction of the Ravenclaw Chaser who was clutching the Quaffle.
The boy was winded and dropped the Quaffle, which was caught by James, who zoomed off in the direction of the Ravenclaw goalposts.
"Beautiful Bludger from McKinnon there, and Potter is off-" the commentator was saying.
But his voice was drowned out my Marlene's mother screaming, "GO LENIE!"
Marlene tried to ignore her mother's screams and focused on another Bludger. As James made it into the scoring area, Marlene whacked a Bludger at the Ravenclaw keeper. It caught him in the arm, distracting him enough that James easily threw the Quaffle straight through the central hoop.
"That's ten points to Gryffindor!" The commentator roared over the screaming Gryffindor supporters.
The match drew on in a similar fashion. When Gryffindor was 120 points up, Sophie Clearwater, the Gryffindor Seeker, caught the snitch and Gryffindor won the match.
Marlene ducked into the changing rooms as quickly as she could, in order to avoid her mother and her dramatic, exaggerated congratulations, but cursed when she remembered that she had promised to introduce the Gryffindor team to the famous Sarah Adams.
She hurried back onto the field where she was immediately spotted by her parents.
"You were wonderful Lenie!" Sarah pulled her into a hug, "oh, I'm so proud!"
David didn't say anything, but ginned at Marlene.
"I promised the team that I would introduce you to them," Marlene told Sarah, once the woman eventually released her daughter.
"Oh, yes I'd love to meet your team!" Sarah smiled. Marlene took one of her mother's arm and took the woman over to where the team was gathering for a debrief.
"Guys, this is my mum," Marlene said. The team were all staring at Sarah in awe.
"You all played brilliantly," Sarah grinned, slightly bemused at the awestruck expressions on the teenager's faces.
"Is such a honour to meet you!" James stumbled forwards. Marlene snorted when she heard how formal he was being.
"You're the Chaser right?" Sarah smiled, "good goal at the beginning."
Each member of the team clamoured to talk to Sarah. Marlene stood back slightly, letting her mother greet each member.
"Is little Lenie feeling left out," Sirius approached her from behind and threw an arm around her shoulders.
"Get off me Black," Marlene shook him off.
"Well, if it's worth anything, I think you're a much better player than any Sarah Adamses," Sirius crossed his arms and frowned at the crowd of students all gathering around Sarah.
Marlene let out a hearty laugh, "my mother played for England. There's no way I'm better than her."
"You could play for England," Sirius pointed out, "there's still time Lenie."
"Don't call me Lenie!"
