To My Mark
This is my first time writing in third person let's see how this works. Fyi this is not very good and some words are used over and over I hope you can deal with it till I have time to edit.
------------------------------------------
Mark is a patient looking for a cure.
Jinyoung is a writer working for a doctor and looking for a bit of inspiration.
Third person: Jinyoung
Jinyoung took a deep breath before pushing open the doors to an office. The office walls were plain white bricks, the floor brown wood, that didn't make much sense to Jinyoung. He shook his head to get rid of his rude thoughts and focused more on the bookshelfs placed on each wall, the huge window that gave Jinyoung such a beautiful view of the city, and the two chairs that faced a black desk. He walked over to one of the chairs and sat down in it. Looking up from the ground he locked eyes with a very professional looking man wearing a white lab like coat,"You are Jinyoung correct?" Jinyoung nodded at the man, scared to break the silence in the room he spoke lightly as he responded,"Ne, I am Jinyoung. It is a pleasure to meet you sir." Standing up quickly he bowed and sat back down, the man at the desk chuckled,"Please don't call me sir, the name is Dr. Kim."
"Yes of course!" Jinyoung quickly responded, he was quite jumpy today. Dr.Kim looked down at a paper on his desk and smiled,"It seems you want to be a writer, but yet you are here in my office to work as a nurse?" Jinyoung quickly nodded,"Yes I even have experience and my mother was a nurse as well." Jinyoung spoke as if he had memorized a script he had written, the doctor found him to be very driven,"Well I cant say no now can I? You're hired."
Jinyoung's eyes widened tell they were at least double in size,"Really sir-I mean Dr.Kim?" He was really surprised that he got the job so easily,"Yes, you have enough experience and it seems you are nice enough to take care of patients, so I've decided to give you a chance." Practically jumping up from his seat Jinyoung smiled brightly,"Thank you Dr.Kim! I can start working tomorrow!"
tomorrow
Jinyoung picked up his white uniform with a smile, it was officially his first day of work and he couldn't be anymore excited to see his first patient. Every since he was young Jinyoung had a passion for writing, and it was still his main passion, but he also had a passion for helping people, and this was the second best thing he could be so he was going to be it the best he could.
A tap on his shoulder made Jinyoung turn away from the uniform hanger, his eyes meet with a woman's as she smiled at him,"So you are the new worker? Don't you look happy to be here." She spoke happily before going down to a whisper,"But between you and me, every other nurse looks ready to become a patient themselves." Jinyoung giggled lightly, this woman seemed nice. He immediately stuck his hand out,"My name is Jinyoung." The woman laughed,"Oh I know! You have a name tag silly, my name is Tiffany but call me Tiff." They shook hands and talked about random things while walking down the skinny hallway of the hospital.
Tiffany came to a stop in front of the Doctor who had hired Jinyoung the day before,"Well hello there you two, I see you've made a friend Jinyoung! I have your first patients if you don't mind, they are waiting out side in the waiting room so just go out and call their name." Dr. Kim greeted and handed them both a clipboard before quickly walking away, Tiffany sighed,"Well I feel the love." Looking confused Jinyoung gave her a look, making her laugh,"That's my soon to be husband, I know he isn't that good looking." Laughing quietly Jinyoung looked down to his clipboard.
Patient: Wang Jackson
Problem: broken arm
Room: #235
Jinyoung was shocked at how little information there was on a patient, he heard Tiffany groan from beside him,"Are you serious?! I got the same patient! This guy hates me! Hey Jinyoung!" Eyes going wide Jinyoung turned to Tiffany and saw her using puppy eyes,"Can we switch patients?! Pretty please?" Blinking Jinyoung nodded slowly, how bad could a patient be that they had to switch? Tiffany squealed in joy before handing Jinyoung her clipboard and taking his.
Patient: Mark Tuan
Problem: Pancreatic cancer(found late)
Room: #189
Must be seen by Doctor. Surgery next checkup.
Jinyoung looked back at Tiffany with slight fear, why did he get such a hard patient on his first day? No wonder the guy is disliked, he probably hates being alive right now. Tiffany smiled at Jinyoung innocently,"Come on time is of the essence!" Tiffany yelled and skipped down the hallway at a fast pace. Shaking his head Jinyoung followed Tiffany at a lot slower of a pace, not really looking forward to today as much as before.
When they reached the door that lead to the waiting room they both decided that Tiffany would be the first to get her patient, and so she did. Opening the door Tiffany held her clipboard with confidence as she called out her patients name,"Wang Jackson!" A groan was heard form the crowd of people,"For the fifth time it's Jackson Wang not Wang Jackson!" Jinyoung chuckled quietly at the annoyed tone the patient was using. Tiffany smiled tightly,"I'll write that down for you sir, now let's get you to your room." The man appeared from within the crowd, his hair blonde and his figure short but buff,"Thank you." He smiled at Tiffany before following her to his room.
Taking a deep breath Jinyoung pushed the same door open and gulped once he saw the large amount of people looking at him, most likely hoping it was them he would call. With a shaky voice he let out a small shout," Mark Tuan!" The crowd stood still, no one getting up or moving in the slightest, just as Jinyoung was going to call again a man looking around his age stood up from his chair. He had blonde hair that curled slightly and a forced looking smile on his face, his eyes were a chocolate brown and his figure was the tiniest bit taller then Jinyoung's though Jinyoung was more lean,"That's me." The weak voice called out, giving Jinyoung the urge to pull out a piece of paper just to describe how defeated and desperate the sound was. Blinking in surprise Jinyoung cleared his throat,"Follow me."
The man, Mark, nodded while walking towards Jinyoung. All of the sudden Jinyoung felt the need to go the other way, his breathing picking up at a irregular pace. What is this? Jinyoung thought to himself. I need to get this guy to his room quickly. Internally nodding to himself Jinyoung turned away from the strange man and walked towards room number one hundred eighty-nine.
On the way there Jinyoung was surprised by Mark who decided to make conversation,"So." He started gently, making Jinyoung's hand twitch,"I was wondering if I could get a name to call you by? I know all the nurses and you seem to be new." Observant, but exactly how much time does this guy spend in the hospital. Jinyoung shook his head to stop himself from zoning out,"Uh, my name is Park Jinyoung, call me Jinyoung." Jinyoung heard a quiet huff,"Oh no that just won't do." Furrowing his eyebrows in confusion Jinyoung stopped and turned towards Mark,"What do you mean by that?" Jinyoung asked while tilting his head to the side. Mark chuckled, Light and free,"Well I can't call you by Jinyoung, it's too what's the word, normal. I bet everyone calls you Jinyoung! I need to be special, how about Jinyoungie? Maybe Jinny? Oh I like both!" Mark squealed in victory, maybe because he found a nickname for me, Jinyoung thought,"Uh well I guess so." He replied, making Mark clap his hands together like a child,"Yay!" Shaking his head at the mans child-like actions Jinyoung continued on his way to Mark's room.
Once they arrived Jinyoung told Mark to sit down on a chair or anything, so Mark sat down on the floor. Jinyoung rolled his eyes while he got out all the things he needed for a check up. He was in the middle of finding Marks heartbeat when Mark once again found it perfect timing to talk,"You know Jinyoungie, you are a lot nicer then those other nurses." Mark said as he smiled lightly, Jinyoung looked up at him and just stared,"Really?" Jinyoung said back, surprised by Mark again,"Yeah. They all make me feel......sad, and you make me feel happy." So many ideas flooded Jinyoung's mind, his hand twitched again. Mark stared at me, the light of the room making his eyes shine. He spoke so gently, as if to say I was fragile, maybe to him I was,"Jinyoung!" Jinyoung was brought back to reality when Mark waved his hand in front of his face,"You okay?" Worry was clear on Mark's features as his hands moved to Jinyoung's cheeks making them heat up in a blush,"Yes, yes I'm fine I was just spacing out."
Mark started to smirk, giving Jinyoung the urge to smack it off,"Don't smirk like that or I might just tell the doctor you need some shots." Mark gulped at Jinyoung's threat making Jinyoung laugh.
After many pointless conversations Jinyoung was finished with Mark's checkup and it was time to get the doctor. Packing up all the things Jinyoung brought in he walked up to the door, but stopped when he heard a weak voice calling out to him,"Are you really going to leave me?" Mark whimpered, making my knees feel weak, was I really that important to him? I'm just a writer in nurse clothing after all. Jerking up out of his thoughts Jinyoung felt the tray of supplies that had been in his hands drop to the floor with a loud thud. Jinyoung's mouth fell open in shock as he quickly bent down to the ground and started to pick everything up. Thank god I wasn't using any glass,"Jinyoungie?" Startled Jinyoung's head snapped up to where Mark was only to see Mark's eyes full of water,"Sorry." Confused Jinyoung quickly got up off the ground and made his way to Mark's side.
"What are you talking about?" He asked now standing in front of the whimpering mess Mark had become,"I-I made you drop your tray!" Jinyoung frowned in concern,"No you didn't! My hands just gave way it wasn't you!" Mark shook his head in a hurried way,"No I wished for something to happen so you would stay! It's my fault!" Jinyoung stared at Mark in shock, he wants me to stay? Quickly engulfing Mark in a hug Jinyoung smiled,"I'll stay then, but first we have to get the doctor okay?" Jinyoung soothed in a gentle tone, Mark nodded into his chest. Slowly Jinyoung let Mark go and headed back to his tray. Picking it up he set it on the counter and went to find Dr.Kim.
After quickly finding Dr.Kim Jinyoung explained that the patient did not want Jinyoung to leave them, the information made Dr.Kim smile,"Of course you can stay with them Jinyoung, but I must have you know, Mark's case is serious and I wouldn't get attached if I were you." Dr. Kim warned, Jinyoung quickly nodded,"I know Dr. I swear I'm not attached." Jinyoung received a strange look from the doctor,"You may not be, but is he?" Thinking about it Jinyoung gulped, he really had no idea,"I'm not sure." This caused Dr.Kim to nod,"I was expecting that much so it's fine." Soon enough Jinyoung and Dr.Kim reached the room Mark was in,"Mkay lets do this." Dr.Kim said mostly to himself as he forced a smile on to his face and opened the door.
When they entered Jinyoung caught sight of Mark jumping at the unexpected movement before frantically looking around. Confused Jinyoung walked in to the room and made a b-line to Mark,"Mark are you okay?" Jinyoung asked and put his hands on Mark's shoulders. Once Jinyoung spoke Mark's eyes snapped up to see him,"Jinyoungie." He breathed out a sigh of, relief?"Yeah it's me." Jinyoung smiled, he could almost swear he heard the doctor scoff and say a quiet "Not attached huh?" but he just ignored it.
"So Dr.Kim, what exactly does Mark need?" Jinyoung requested, he felt slightly worried for Mark, maybe he was starting to get attached. Dr.Kim kept his eyes glued to the clipboard in his hand as he replied,"Well you see Jinyoung, Mark has a type of cancer, pancreatic cancer to be exact. This is a cancer that grows rapidly and effects the want to eat and also effects weight loss. It has no way of being detected early and has been found in a late stage so Mark will need surgery, which he will receive at his next appointment. So far there seems to be no problems with his health and we don't think he will die to this cancer. He is very lucky." As Dr.Kim talked Mark had slowly moved his hand to Jinyoung's and intertwined them tightly, the action caused Jinyoung to smile down at Mark brightly and reassuringly,"So after the surgery he will be fine?" Jinyoung reassured Mark, or maybe himself? Dr.Kim's clipboard let out a snap as he closed it,"Now Jinyoung I'll need you to move so I can check everything to make sure he is still healthy." Jinyoung moved out of the doctors way quickly, nodding.
Fifteen minutes and a full checkup later Mark was done with his appointment, meaning it was the time when Jinyoung and Mark would have to separate,"Jinyoungie, I'll see you next week okay?!" Mark demanded more then spoke while clutching onto Jinyoung's shirt, making the other male feel a lot worse about their departure,"Okay Mark, I'll see you next week." With a few goodbyes Mark left the hospital and Jinyoung was handed another clipboard.
five days later
Jinyoung smiled brightly at his newest costumer; an older lady who was having liver problems, the sweetest old lady in the world Jinyoung thought to himself. At the moment he was on his way to the waiting room, and was walking the kind woman. Jinyoung frowned upon hearing sirens just outside,"Oh well look here, that seems to be a problem." The lady cackled making Jinyoung wince,"Yeah, I guess someone is quite injured." He talked louder than normal so the woman could hear. Soon enough the shouts of doctors could be heard along with screams of pain, they must be really hurt. Stopping in his tracks at the call of his name Jinyoung told the woman to show herself to the waiting room, the woman nodded at him and started her walk.
"Jinyoung!" The voice called again, more urgent then before. Moving his body towards the sound Jinyoung spotted Dr.Kim running towards him from down the hall,"Oh Dr.Kim what seems to be the problem?" The doctor held up his index finger as a sign for Jinyoung to wait while he caught his breath,"You see Jinyoung the problem is that Mark is back." Furrowing his eyebrows Jinyoung looked at the doctor as confused as he has ever been,"Uh, what do you mean exactly?" Jinyoung was beyond confused at this point, Mark wasn't suppose to be back until Monday and it was Saturday,"Well Mark's cancer went from stage three to stage four overnight! It's rapidly growing like I've never seen before! He is headed for surgery now and I felt since you guys were close that you might want to be aware!" Jinyoung's boss seemed to be crazy, his hands moving all over the place and his eyes held panic. Then it dawned on Jinyoung, Mark's going into surgery.
Mark, surgery, right now. Jinyoung's breath caught in his throat,"Is- were the sirens, Mark's?" Jinyoung chocked out, since when had he gotten so attached to Mark? The doctor nodded,"He is in room one-thirty five but- wait Jinyoung!" Dr. Kim called out to the now running Jinyoung but he was to far gone to hear or care for that matter. Running through the hospital halls Jinyoung's eyes scanned the numbers on the doors as quickly as possibly. One hundred thirty, one hundred thirty four, one hundred thirty five! Loud noises could be heard from inside the room, causing Jinyoung to feel afraid to enter.
Feeling a hand on his shoulder Jinyoung jumped and turned to face a worried looking Tiffany,"Jinyoung I'm sorry but only family is allowed in." Almost instantly Jinyoung was yelling back at her,"I am family!" He nearly screamed, Tiffany's eyes widened,"Oh really? What relationship do you have with him?" Jinyoung knew that sibling wouldn't work since he had told Tiffany he was an only child, and so was Mark. Jinyoung obviously couldn't be his father and that only left one thing,"I-I'm his boyfriend." Jinyoung whispered mentally slapping himself for what he had done. Tiffanys face visibly brightened at the news,"Well then why didn't you say so! Uh, you still aren't suppose to be in there but since I'm suppose to be helping them you can take my place." "Really?! Thank you so much Tiffany! I promise I'll pay you back!" Jinyoung's speech was slurred as he quickly opened the door where Mark was having his surgery.
The first thing Jinyoung saw was a group of doctors and nurses surrounding a body on an operation table, that body had a cloth over it with a square on the upper body open. The blood bothered Jinyoung but even more the stares he was getting from one of the nurses,"Are you suppose to be here?" She asked kind of forcefully, after all he was a new employee,"Yes I was called to help in here." Jinyoung lied easily, the nurse nodded,"Okay then get over here, we are losing him faster than expected." Oh dear god help me now, Jinyoung thought while he grabbed the supplies that was being screamed at him to get. The pressure bit at him slowly, Mark's life was partially in Jinyoung's hands and that scared the living shit out of him.
The sound of Mark's heartbeat relaxed Jinyoung even the slightest bit, that was until it started to get slower,"Hurry we are losing him!" The main doctor screamed out at everyone- holding a pair of tweezers in his hand and blood on his coat. Jinyoung gulped with fright, Mark. Yells and chaos surrounded him, Jinyoung just stood staring at Mark's closed eyes, his pale skin and lifeless hair, was it really the end for him?
My whole body shook as I watched multiple doctors push at one another in panic, screaming how he was slipping away, his heartbeat slowing down. I wasn't quite sure when but Mark had become an important part of me in just five days. I feared for him, he was way too young, had so much more to see and feel. Maybe I was scared for me, would I be the same after Mark? I barely knew him- he was special. Then, his heart stopped, and all I could do was watch.
'Beeeeeeeeeeep'
"Move out of the way nurse!" A doctor snapped at Jinyoung, his coat red, his eyes crazed,"This boy could have made it!" He cried breaking down into his own hands. He could have made it. Gulping, Jinyoung turned away as the doctors put a coat on Mark's now lifeless body, he walked away and never looked back. Never came back, in fact, Jinyoung continued on with his life long dream, he became a writer and sold over a thousand copies of his best selling books. In every single book Jinyoung wrote the same thing, over and over.
To My Mark.
