Ch. 7: What happened and who is Amy?

After the whole commotion, Wilford Warfstache, aka William the Colonel, rushed outta the surveillance room and headed to his office, laughing as he did. Somehow, for whatever psychotic reason of his, everything that had just happened seemed very amusing to him. He was still laughing by the time he entered his office and sat at the desk, thinking of what his next move should be. He knew at this point, he wasn't gonna get anywhere near the detective, nor any of the people who had saved him. The only thing he could do right now was start prepping up the other projects and wait for the go ahead.

In the meantime, there was something else he could do for the time being. He took the office phone off of it's holder and pressed the button to take him straight to Kathryn. "Kathryn?" he asked once he heard the click.

"Yes sir?"

"Could you and Amy please report to my office" he casually asked with his usual kind tone.

"Of course, but sir, she had an early lunch today and she hasn't come back yet" she nervously informed.

"That's alright, just leave a message on her cell, saying I need to speak with her and then I'll go ahead and talk with you" he instructed.

"Yes sir, right away" and with that, she hung up the phone and did what her boss instructed. Only when she called, Amy was able to answer. She told her about what the boss wanted and Amy didn't like the sound of this. She warned Kathryn to be careful and that she would be there shortly. Then, the assistant got off the phone and headed straight to the office of the company owner.

"Come in" he called once he heard the young lady knock on the door. Kathryn was a bit shy at entering the room with her oddball of a boss.

"Mister Warfstache?" she asked.

"Yes, please, have a seat" he gestured to one of the chairs in front of the desk for her to take, to which she nervously did. "Do you know why youare here?" he asked once ahe sat down.

"Did I do something wrong sir?" she asked back, tryna hide how nervous she was.

"Relax Kathryn" he kindly eased. "There's something I want to discuss with you" he gently stated.

"Ok" she nodded with a small smile, continuing to mask her true emotions.

"You've been working here for a long time, even longer then I have" he noted. "I believe you are well acquainted with the company's founder and family?" he assumed.

Now her nerves were getting tighter and tighter, her palms were sweating and she had to try and control her breathing. "I know the Fischbach's very well, yes" she nodded.

"And ur close with Mark, aren't you?" he aaked again and Kat just knew this couldn't be good.

Kathy took a deep breath before answering. "Yes, we're very close" she nodded again, trying her hardest to keep as cool as possible.

"How close?" he asked intriguingly. "Would you say that you two were so close, that you would be willing to die for him?" this was freaking Kathy out.

"Sir, may I ask what is the point of these questions?" she tried to cut to the chase while avoiding a darker turn for this.

All he did was grin at her, and not in a good way either. But before he could answer, Amy walked in the door. "Sir? You wanted to see me?" she glanced at him and then at Kathryn with a silent, reassuring look. Kathryn was now feeling safer with her friend here.

"Ah, Amy" he smiled as he stood from his chair and went straight towards the blonde. "My dear beautiful Amy" he continued as he walked up to her and caressed her cheek, making her feel slightly uncomfortable. "The many great things I had wanted for us" he acknowledged.

"Sir, I think that would be a little inappropriate" she awkwardly retracted from his hand.

"Sadly so" he agreed and turned to walk back over to his desk. "And sadly, I had such high hopes for you too, dear Kathryn" he pointed to the girl still in her seat. "But I am willing to give bith of you the benefit of the doubt, a second chance if you will" he informed with that same smile of his.

"What're you talking about mister Warfstache?" Kathryn rose from her seat as Amy moved beside her.

"Oh let's all be honest here" he calmly urged. "You two didn't really think you could sneak around without my notice, did you?" he grinned evily.

Now the two ladies were frozen with wide eyes and no words, completely positive they were in a bad spot now. "Now, mister Warfstache" Amy began.

"Relax my dears, I understand" he assured. "Mark is your friend, you wanted to help him, and I'm sure he's told you a great many tales about me" he stated understandably. "But make no mistake about it, Mark is delusional, he only cares about himself, he even caused what happened at his family's manor" he tried to get them on his side as he moved around the desk and in front of the two. "Everything I do here is for the greater good"

"You mean like kidnapping? Murder? And turning people into killing machines against their will" Amy shot back.

"Amy, please try to understand" he moved closer to the two as they backed away slowly. "I never killed anyone, killing is just a crazy joke, a wild game. I simply granted those men a new life, a better purpose" he stated gladly. "And you two can be a part of it" he offered.

"Be a part of this charade? I'd rather die" Kathryn snapped back.

The colonel just laughed at the remark. "Well, Kathryn, I never knew you were so fond of the game" he smiled excitedly. "I was hoping you would take up my offer, but since ur so greatly up for it" he then pulled out a big, silver six shooter, the ladies gasping in horror at the sight. "Don't be frightened Kathy, death is just the funniest show that has ever been put on, and ur gonna be the star of it" he smiled as he slowly rose the gun, pointed it directly at the scared assistant and fired off.

However, right as he fired and Kathryn's life flashed before her eyes, there was suddenly a hand right in front of her face. Amy had caught the bullet right as he shot, leaving the two in amazement. "Wow, Amy" Wilford gasped. "It seems your quite good at this game, I'm excited your joining in" he smiled as he continued shooting, only to miss every shot due to Amy grabbing Kathy and flying out the window. The glass shattering as the two rushed off into the air.

"Damn ur timing is great" Kathy laughed in amazement.

"Glad I stopped by" she smiled before bringing them on a roof top.

"So what do we do now?" Kathy asked.

"We need to get back with Mark and the others" she briefed. "Now helping him is the only way we can help ourselves" she stated.

"Sounds good to me" she nodded.

Since there wasn't any room in Mark and Jack's apartment, and since this was a better way to hide him, they kept Abraham safe at an abandoned garage and storage room outside of the city. He waited there for his friends to return with Bob and Wade guarding the place until Mark and Jack walked inside. "Mark!" he exclaimed excitedly as the two friends walked to each other. "Oh my God, I thought you were dead man" he stated as he gave the man a tight, assuring hug.

"I thought the same for you" he laughed as he patted and pulled away from the hug. "How did you survive?"

"Takes more then a bullet to keep me down" he joked with a shrug and Mark giggled. "What about you? How did you, and Jack there, get this way?"

Mark glanced back at his Irish friend before responding. "Um, we'll get to that later, we need ur help with something first, it's very important" he noted in a pleading matter.

"Ok, uh...whatchu need?" the detective asked and Mark gestured to the three chairs in the center of the room Bob and Wade had laid out for them. The three men took the seats, Mark on the left, Abe across from him and Jack in the middle seat but was moved closer to Mark. Bob and Wade were still out, making sure nobody else was coming.

"Here's the thing," Mark began. "What happened at the manor? We don't know what happened" he informed and Abe shot his eyebrows up surprise. "I can't remember a thing and Jack was kept in his room the whole time" he explained. "We need you to tell us what happened"

Abe glanced between the two at still being in surprise, almost looking worried and nervous, before clearing his throat and leaning back in his chair. "Um, do you remember the first night at the manor?" he quickly checked.

"Vaguely, we had a party, didn't we?" he replied.

"Yea, well, the next morning, we found ur body in the living room" he informed and Mark's eyes bulged and Jack furrowed his eyes. "Yea, you were murdered" he added in assurance.

Mark let out a heavy sigh, not believing what he just heard or that it could've actually happened. "H-how?" he asked.

"How do you think? It was the Colonel" he responded.

"What?" Mark exclaimed, but Jack just kept giving Abe this suspicious look.

"I'm afriad so" he nodded. "We spent the whole day investigating, the more we gathered the more it led to Will" he continued to explain. "Then the next day, he came at me with that huge ass gun of his, shot me and then that's all I can remember before waking up at the hospital" he informed again and Mark was left in shock, but Jack's expression didn't change a bit.

"But why? Why do all of this?" Mark asked.

"I think you know, Mark" Abe nodded knowingly, and Mark let out a sigh as he remembered the history between him and William.

"Man I can't believe this" Mark sighed.

"Wait, that's not all" Jack chimed in, catching both of their attention. "There's something he's not telling us" he noted, turning to face Mark.

"Wait, how do you-" Mark asked.

"Septic Sam here, remember? He sees everything" he stated, pointing to his right eye. Septic Sam was the cute little name he gave his magic eye.

"Wait, why are you lying?" Mark turned to the detective, who looked slightly pale.

"Uh psshh, I'm not lying, he's lying" he smiled nervously, not helping his case. Now Mark's suspension was growing just as much as Jack's. "Hey come on man, who you gonna believe? Ur friend or some guy who shouldn't even be talking?" he got defensive.

"Hey, this guy happens to be my friend too, and he's given me every reason to trust him while ur just shattering any reason to trust you" Mark shot back angrily.

"I came here for you! And after everything that I, that we-you know what, fuck you Mark" he fired off before rising from his chair and beginning to leave.

Mark quickly stood to stop him. "Abe, you do remember what you saw me do today, right?" he asked in a threatening tone. Abe knew he wasn't leaving anytime soon, so he went back to his seat and Mark took his as well. "Now, tell me what really happened at the manor" he calmly but sincerely demanded.

"Mark, I'm telling you, William, or Wilford or whatever he's called, went ape-shit and killed everyone there" it was as if he was begging the two to believe him.

"What about Damien and Celine? He wouldn't have killed them, even if he is crazy" Mark replied with a suspiciously warning look, still not convinced by the detective.

Abe's face grimaced anxiously as he cleared his throat again. "Ok, maybe he didn't kill them. Quite frankly, I don't know what the hell happened to them" he admitted.

"How so?" Mark asked.

The detective let out a heavy sigh before continuing. "The night before William lost it, we went up to where Celine and Damien were and... something weird was going on with them" he stated and Mark was now confused. "They weren't like...getting it on or anything, it was like some weird enchanting shit going on" he added and Mark wished he could say this surprised him, but knowing Celine and considering everything that had happened to him, he wasn't even a little surprised. "Anyway, they died and things just kept getting weirder from there"

Mark turned to Jack to make sure. "He's telling the truth on that part, but he's still hiding something" Jack informed.

"Ok, but what else happened at that house? What aren't you telling us" Mark interrogated.

"Look, the house was just creepy, ok? There was something not right about that place" he stated frustratedly.

"Yea I get that, but I'm talking about what happened, did you do something?" Mark tried to get to the bottom of this, but they were clearly getting nowhere with Abraham.

"You know what, I have a better idea" Jack stated as he stood from his chair and went to Abe.

"Hey" he panicked as the Irishman grabbed his face and forced him to look him straight in the eye. Jack remembered how he could see a person's wrong doings just by making eye contact.

After a brief second, Jack shouted as he jerked back and clapped his eye. Mark stood to check on his friend. "Hey, you ok?" he asked.

Jack tried to catch his breath as he lowered his hand and turned to the detective, who was still in his seat, with a stunned look. "It was him, he caused it" he informed.

Mark glanced back at Abe before turning back to Jack. "What do you mean?" he asked.

"You weren't murdered, he faked your death" he stated, Mark turning to Abe in shock. "He tried to pin it on the Colonel, and he.....he drove him insane" he breathed out.

Mark was at a lost for words, never once believing he could do such a thing. He kept his eyes on the frightened detective as he shot from his seat and slowly backed away. "How could you do that?" Mark asked as he walked closer to Abe. "Do you have any idea what you've done? What you've turned him into or how many people have been paying the price because of you?!"

"Everything I did was for you!" he argued, Mark furrowing his eyebrows at the remark. "You wanted to get back at Celine and William for what they did and asked for my help, so I did!" he shouted.

"I DID NOT WANT THIS!" Mark shouted back as he lifted the detective up by the throat. "I did not ask for any of this, so don't you dare put this on me!" he angrily hollered as Abe struggled for air.

"Mark! Mark let him go" Jack urged, tugging at the arm of his best friend, who granted his request after a moment. He panted to try and calm himself down as the detective coughed and gagged on the floor.

"I may have hated them for what they did, but I did not want this" he stated breathlessly and continued panting for air.

The three men were all silent for a moment, nothing but their breaths and coughs filling the room. "Hey guys?" Bob nervously called from the door, breaking the silence and catching their attention. Mark and Jack turned to see him and Wade with Amy and Kathryn. "There here" he announced, gesturing to the two ladies that Mark had informed to watch for. Mark's focus was solely on Amy, remembering what he witnessed her do just a few moments earlier.

"Tie him up and make sure he's safely and thoroughly secured" Mark instructed to Jack, who nodded and went to carry out his task while Mark walked up to the group, going straight up to Amy.

"You have a minute?" Amy asked.

"Yes, definitely" Mark nodded.

The other three went to Jack so they could all inform each other of what was going on while Mark and Amy went to a staff room just down the hall. "Let's sit down" Amy instructed as she motioned to the table with the chairs around it. Mark agreed to sit across from Amy, both not sure who should go first and what to start with. Both ended up speaking up at once, then laughed at the moment.

"Um, so..." Mark began.

"Why don't you go first" Amy granted.

"Ok, uh....are you....also a...meteor mutant? Or whatever?" he asked confusenly and a little nervous.

Amy giggled at the question. "Not exactly" she smiled. "I'm something a little more....complicated, I guess" she stated, but seemed too nervous to tell him the whole story.

"Hey, you can tell me" he kindly assured. "After all, we're practically the same" he laughed slightly, somehow he was still pretty nervous around her.

"Actually, we're very different" she noted and Mark furrowed his brow. "I....uh," she took a deep breath before continuing. "I'm an alien" she admitted, Mark wasn't even sure if he heard her right. "Yea, like an actual space alien" she assured.

Mark never would've guessed that would've been the case, nor did he think space chicks could actually be so hot and gorgeous. He shook his head from the sudden random thought that had crept in his mind and tried to focus on the task at hand. "Ok, so uh...ur an alien" he noted.

"Yes, I'm from a planet called Peebles" she continued to inform. "We created the Matthias stones" that note had Mark leaning closer.

"Go on" he instructed.

"It was a very beautiful place, you would've loved it" she smiled and Mark reflected her expressions. "The stones were what gave us our power and allowed us to make our world better and just do so many great things, but then invaders came, war broke out, and the planet was destroyed" she stated sadly.

"Oh my God, I'm so sorry" Mark sympathized.

"Thanx" she smiled. "After the planet's destruction, many of the stones were destroyed, but some were lost in space. I followed one meteor here to Earth, and I've lived here since then" she stated with a shrug and Mark couldn't but be in flat out awe of the woman in front of him.

"Wow uh" Mark was briefly at a lost for words, hoping not to offend her. "Didn't you try to get that meteor back?" he shrugged.

"Sadly, I couldn't do that without getting myself into trouble" she smirked, Mark couldn't help but think of how damn cute that was. "I spent most of my early life here learning Earth's ways, learning how to live a proper, honest life, then I met Kathy" she smiled. "We grew close together during the first year of our friendship, then she found out about me by accident, but handled it pretty well"

"So, she knows about you too?" Mark asked.

"Yea, she helped me out a lot over the years, with so many things" she answered. "She even convinced me to work up the courage to do some saving myself and even helped me to look for the stones. She got me a job at the industries when I found out they had connections to the people who had em, and I also needed a job" she stated with a shrug and Mark chuckled along with her.

"Yea she's really great like that, I'm surprised she didn't talk about you more before" Mark questioned.

"I asked her not to, I figured the less who knew the better" she responded.

"I understand" he nodded. "I'm glad you managed to survive all this time" she complimented.

"Thankyou" she smiled. "I'm glad you've managed to survive all this crazy shit you've been through" she slightly chuckled.

"So am I" he giggled back. For a moment, the two just smiled at each other. Mark couldn't help but admire just how beautiful she was, it was hardly something he could resist thinking about, even during everything that had happened today. "So, are you helping us to get the stones back?" he broke the awkward silence that had sprung between the two, wanting to answer a few more questions but also just enjoyed talking to her.

"Partially, but I also just like to help in whatever way I can" she answered and Mark smiled. "Can I....ask you something?"

"Looks like you already have" he joked and she giggled. "But seriously though, yes, you can ask me anything" he kindly granted with a smile.

Amy took a deep breath, seeming somewhat nervous, before responding. "Well, I heard the little... commotion between you and the detective in there" she noted and Mark slightly grimaced, feeling a little embarrassed she had to hear that.

"Look, I'm sorry if that freaked you out any" he apologized.

"No no, it's fine" she quickly assured. "I just wanna know, what was he talking about?" she asked, Mark's expression grew into slight confusion and slight nervousness. "Cos, here's the thing, Warfstache caught me and Kathryn" she informed and Mark's eyebrows shot up. "He confronted us about it just minutes before we arrived, but we got away quickly and with no harm done, thankfully" she continued and Mark sighed in relief. "However, he said that you were the cause of what happened at the manor,  and then I come back here and Abraham is basically saying the same thing, and that Will and Celine...did something to you?" she asked.

Mark let out another sigh, only one that was more frustrating then relieving. "Amy I swear, I did not-"

"No no, I'm not accusing you" she assured, but Mark wasn't real sure of that. "I just wanna know what happened, or...more importantly, I guess I just like to know how a guy like you went from being an actor to the position ur in now" she explained, Mark understanding a little better.

Mark leaned further back into his chair and averted his gaze as he tried to mentally prepare himself for telling his story. He never thought he would have to, especially to someone he just met the previous night. He didn't always like telling his story either, but somehow, he felt very comfortable around this girl. "I used to be somebody, a guy who was good at what he does and had everything. But then, I was stupid enough to let it all slip away, and now I'm stuck trying to figure that all out again" he stated.

"What do you mean?" Amy furrowed her eyebrows.

"Growing up, one thing that me and all of my friends shared in common, was having a passion for helping others" he informed. "My father, who was basically my role model growing up, he had inspired me to do so many great things, but finding out what I wanted to do for the rest of my life was easier said then done" he stated as Amy listened very intently. "I got a degree in engineering in case I was to take over his company, but I wasn't so sure if that's what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Then, after all my friends told me about what an entertainer I was, I got into acting" he stated and Amy smiled. "I loved it too, especially voice acting. Anytime someone offered me a spot on a cartoon or anime, I wouldn't even hesitate" he added and Amy chuckled. "My father of course didn't understand it" he continued. "But once I explained to him how acting helps people, that was the last time he ever questioned it"

"And how did you explain it?" she asked, intrigued.

"I told him to think about any movie, t.v. show or stage peformance he's ever seen or any book he's ever read, and then I asked him what was the one thing they all shared in common" he stated and Amy gave him a questioning look. "I said that they were all either a break away from reality, or a guide to surviving reality. And in some cases, even both" he stated and Amy grinned at the lesson. "But after a while, it became more about the glory then any of those things" he regrettably continued. "I didn't like who I was turning into, and nobody else did at that matter, especially not my wife, Celine" he added and Amy was starting to see where he was going with this. "That was one of the reasons leading up to our divorce, and the other was her sleeping with a man that our friend, Mayor Damien had introduced us to"

"The Colonel" Amy nodded.

"Yea, him" he nodded back. "You know, my mom never liked her, and I probably should've listened too" he continued as she listened. "After we split, she ended up becoming a seer" he informed.

"Really?" Amy asked in shock.

"Yea, and not a nice one either" he added. "Meanwhile, I got out of acting, and I tried to find that person I used to be and make him better, while trying to reconcile with everyone at the same time" he informed again. "That's why I invited everyone to the manor that weekend, I was hoping to change things, and make them better" he noted and Amy nodded.

"Well I think it's great that you tried that" she complimented, receiving a thankyou and a small smile in return. "But, not to sound suspicious or change tone here, are you sure you didn't have some other reason for inviting them to the manor?" she thought it was important to ask.

Mark was silent for a moment, thinking back to the events before the manor. "I can't really explain it, and I know it may sound a little strange, but anytime I ever stepped inside that house, it's like there was this dark presence with me the whole time, and all I could think about was getting revenge" he explained and Amy's expression was still half questioning but also half sad. "Maybe I did want something bad to happen to them, and maybe I even mentioned to the detective how I would love to get back at them somehow. But I swear, I did not want to kill anyone" he defended.

"I believe you" she smiled assuringly. "I've never been in a situation like your's, but I know what it's like to want revenge" she sympathized and Mark nodded understandably. "It can drive us to make some pretty bad mistakes, which we all do at some point or another. But I think all we can do is keep moving forward, try to be better like you said, and let something good come from those mistakes" she encouraged. "After all, look at what you and Jack have become, look at everything you two could give" she added with a bright, enlightening smile.

Now Mark was pretty sure he was in love with this woman, smart, beautiful, powerful and encouraging. There was really nothing he could not like about her. "You know, I'm really glad I met you Amy, ur a great person to have around" he complimented and Amy had to breath in through the nose and avert her gaze to hide the blush creeping in her cheeks. "I hope you don't mind me saying that"

"No no, I appreciate it a lot" she assured.

"It's just, I know we just met last night, but now it kinda feels like I've known you for a while right now" he stated.

"To be honest, I sorta feel the same way" she laughed nervously. There was another pause between the two as they just smiled and tried not to make things awkward, not to much avail.

"So William caught you two spying?" Mark broke the silence.

"Yea, so we can't get in anymore and he's probably looking for us now" she replied.

"Alright, we can keep you safe" Mark nodded. "We need to figure out our next move in the meantime" he noted.

"Alright, let's go see the others" she smiled and Mark reflected her expression as they stood to join up with others again.

"Oh and hey" Mark stopped before they walked out. "Thanx for this, I think I needed it" he smiled.

"Of course, so did I" she smiled and Mark held the door open before following her out.

Wilford Warfstache went back to his office and met with his own mentor. "Is the plan now beginning to go into motion?" he grinned.

"Yes"
