The Dying of the Light - 28

Jimin swipes down, killing the last demon that was pouncing near Raven.

She pants, turning to face him. "Thank you."

The blue color of his powers is an afterthought at this point. He doesn't reply, he merely stares at her. There's only a few demons left, so they need to move, but he wants to memorize her face.

"I love you," he whispers.. She sniffles and nods, coming over and holding his hand. "We have to go."

She sighs. "I know, but I want you to know that I love you too."

He kisses her forehead before taking his bow off his shoulder, sheathing his sword and pulling out an arrow. He loads his weapon, firing at a class five closing in on Val. She grits her teeth and helps Jin up, the two going back at it.

"Great, we're all injured and half-dead," Raven mumbles as she fires arrows with him. "All injured and half-dead with a class 6 left to fight."

Jimin mentally agrees before grabbing her hand and rushing over to Namjoon and Hoseok. The two are engaging a class 4 and losing pretty badly. Namjoon's bleeding from his stomach, the crimson color coating his shirt while Hoseok is fighting off the clawed-creature.

Jimin's quick to fire an arrow into the back of its skull. The demon stalls for a moment, a moment long enough for Hoseok to get the upper hand and banishes it forever. The dust swirls in the wind, brushing by Jimin's face.

"Where's Jungkook?" Jimin asks on instinct, his heartrate skyrocketing.

"Fighting the class 6," Hoseok replies.

Jimin whips around, noticing the two demons going back and forth. Jungkook's putting his all into it, but it's not enough. Not nearly enough. Jimin gulps, turning back and seeing his girlfriend run off to another side of the area.

"Rave!" he calls after her as he rushes down the sidewalk.

He joins her side in time for her to throw her bow over her shoulder, grabbing a dagger instead and sliding down. She goes under a class 4 demon, slicing open its stomach and rolling out the other side. It screeches in despair. Jimin gets Raven's message loud and clear. He takes an arrow and stabs the thing through the eye while it's distracted, the demon fading to dust seconds later.

"Only a few more, problem is..." Raven trails off, her eyes widening. Jimin stays right next to her, giving her shoulder a small squeeze.

"What is it?" he asks in a soft, curious tone.

She glances up at him and places her hand over his, then her eyes dart back to the scene in front of them. Jimin furrows his brows, observing the sight. Then he gasps.

In front of them is a male figure fighting two class 4's. He's bleeding from more places than Jimin can count, and every cell in his body screams at him to go help his injured Hunter.

"Is that Griffin?" Raven asks in awe.

However, neither of them get their answer. Instead, a snarl sounds off. There are only four demons left in the area, and of course, two of the four are fighting Griffin. The other two? They land in between the other Hunters and Griffin, Jayden, and Y/N. Jimin doesn't see Apollo, but he knows Apollo is around somewhere. That man always has a plan.

Jimin pulls Raven behind him, kneeling so she can shoot over him. He pulls out his bow as Raven does, loading it and preparing to strike. The remaining Hunters gather around, the two demons huffing and puffing, seemingly narrowing their eyes at them.

"Well," Jimin starts with a dry chuckle, shaking his head. "It was an honor fighting by your side." He knows they'll win this fight, but there's one problem.

They still have the class 6.

~~~
The terror flowing through your body is the only thing you feel right now. Not even the pain can compare to the adrenaline you feel watching your older brother fight two class 4's.
He grunts as he fights, dodging multiple strikes until finally he manages to cut off the tail of one, and one wing of the other, leaving it grounded. Seems like he's winning so far. How? You have absolutely no fucking idea.
Jayden is on the ground weeping, too distraught from the pain of losing Apollo. You glance over at the blond, amazed to see him laying there motionlessly. Mere minutes ago he was fighting demons. Now he's with Lillian, looking down and cheering for you. Cheering... definitely cheering. And it's that thought that makes you stand.
"You're in no condition to fight!" Jayden cries, paying just enough attention to notice the fire in your eyes.
"I don't care," you whisper back, picking up your sword and wrapping it tightly around your fingers. It might be a dumb move, but you take your dagger and lightly cut some of the skin on your arm to bring feeling back into your body. Pain, sure, but it's better than terror.
Griffin keeps fighting despite his weak state, taking several hits on the shoulder and thighs, taking each shot without showing any sign of stopping. You use your teeth to tighten the grips on your hand, the white cloths wrapped around you for better usage of your sword. When you're sure they're tight enough, you sprint.
Your feet pound against the concrete of the road, and you resist the urge to let out a battle cry. Griffin notices your arrival, gasping when you fly by and pounce at the two demons. He tries holding you back, yelling out your name, but you ignore it. Instead, you kill the class 4 on his left.
The other goes to swipe at you, about to stab you in the back, then Griffin uses his sword to block the attack. You nod your thanks. He doesn't have time to reply, he merely cuts through one of the claws, the class 4 whimpering and backing away.
You hold your sword protectively close to your body. Wordlessly, Griff stays right by you. The two of you stand shoulder-to-shoulder. Fighting side-by-side like true siblings. He heaves, his blinking slowing.
"Stay with me here, Val will patch you up," you murmur. He doesn't reply.
The demon growls and makes one last battle run, and you and Griffin split off to flank it. In its shock, the two of you gain the upper hand. It hisses in dismay as your swords come crashing down, the creature knocking Griffin back while you pierce its skin. Seconds later it tries to get you, but you pull out a dagger and stab it in the neck to finish the deed. It cries, dying a few beats later.
Jayden shouts from his position, but you don't hear what he's saying. You drop your sword and dagger, falling to your knees.
"Fuck!" you yell, holding your definitely broken ribs. You turn your head in time to see the others engaging two class 4's. The last two. The last two before you have to fight the class 6. Great. But there's a more pressing matter. Griff.
With all your remaining strength, you crawl to Griffin, the man laying on the ground thanks to the knockback the class 4 did to him. He's groaning and huffing, placing a hand on his chest. You come closer and closer until you see it. Right away, you feel sick, and you have to bite your tongue to prevent yourself from vomiting.
Griffin gags, coughing up blood. You wipe it with the grips on your hands, crying and observing his battered body. All you see is red. The dark red that covers his clothes and skin. The dark red coming from the wound in his stomach. He got knocked back far, very far. Far enough to hit a building and land on a metal rod. Said metal rod is protruding from his stomach, the same red splattered on the metal peaking through his body.
"I-I have to get you off of this thing," you stutter.
He shakes you off. "Don't bother."
His weak voice makes your entire body deflate. The realization that he's going to die hits your heart so hard that you lurch, the tears pouring down your face. It almost looks like rain.
"No... no, not you too. Not you too!" you cry, gripping at his shirt. The begging gets you nowhere. He doesn't reassure you that he'll be okay. He doesn't bother with that. You're no child anymore; you have to face reality at some point.
Griffin reaches up with his hand, and you meet it halfway. Your hands entwine together, your eyes locking.
"You've been through so much pain," he whispers, his voice cracking. "I'm so sorry, Y/N. You didn't deserve it. You didn't deserve any of it."
"Neither did you. Please don't do this, Griff, please don't leave me!"
Although he appears touched by your pleas, he doesn't comment on them. He reaches up further, brushing some of your tears away. "Can you do me... one last favor?" he asks, his body and voice getting weaker by the second. You sniffle and nod, him giving you the best smile he can muster. "Don't die. Please don't die."
"But Griff," you start, but he grunts and whimpers in pain. "Griff, stay with me. Come on, please let me take you off this thing!"
He doesn't let you. Griffin lays back, his hand falling off your face. His eyes stay on the sky, your tears falling harder than before.
"Don't cry," he whispers. "I'm going to see her again, that's all I could ever ask for. Thank you, Y/N. Thank you for being... my little sister..."
His head tilts downwards, his breathing slowly coming to a halt. Jayden's too numb to react, instead leaning up against the nearest wall and staring off into space. You're the same way.
You close Griffin's eyes, falling back on the ground and staring up at the sky as Griff just did. The pain flowing through your body is both emotional and physical. There's no word you can use to describe the heartbreak coursing in your veins. The discord rages in your mind, but somehow your world feels so silent at the same time. It's a terrible feeling, but you can't quite fully grasp it either. The reality hits you, and it hits you hard.
Apollo and Griffin are dead.
The very thought of the two gone makes your heart shatter into pieces like glass when a hammer hits it. Instead of crying or screaming, you stay still, gazing up at the sky that gets darker by the minute. It's not until you hear the shouts of your teammates that you realize you still have a class 6 to fight. You still have to save Jungkook. There are still people you need to fight for. The most painful part of this is you can't rest and mourn. You have to fight.
"Y/N!" Jimin calls, coming over and kneeling in front of you. He notices Griffin's body, but he holds back his sickness to instead help you sit up. You avert your eyes from his body. "Are you okay?
The other Hunters, upon learning that Griffin is dead, all drop their swords. "Apollo... Apollo's gone too," you murmur.
Jimin freezes. "Apollo? No, that can't be right. Where the hell is he? He has to be hiding here somewhe-"
"He's dead, Jimin!" you interrupt in a yell. "He's dead and so is Griffin! The rest of us will be too!" Your lower lip quivers as you continue. "The rest of us... the rest of us..."
He cuts you off by bringing you into a hug, you sobbing into his chest while he shushes you and strokes your hair. The small action of comfort doesn't help much, but it at least gives you a sense of belonging. A sense of purpose. Griffin told you not to die. You can't die. Not now.
Jimin sighs. "I hate to tell you this, but..."
"We have to go," you finish, pulling back and peering at him. That's when you notice him tilt his head down as if to hide himself.
He's crying too.
You wipe his tears with your bloody hands, smearing some of the substance on his normally clean skin. He sniffles and nods his thanks to you, wobbly getting to his feet and helping you up.
Val rushes to Jayden, taking out her field medkit and getting to work. Jin helps right away. Taehyung and Hoseok gather around you.
"I'm worried about Yoongi. He must be terrified not knowing if we're coming back or not," Hoseok murmurs. It sucks that you had to leave Yoongi behind, but with a broken leg and arm, it's impossible for him to fight.
Jimin nods in agreement, checking on your wounds. "Jesus, you got banged up. How are you still standing?"
"Griffin was in danger. Not that it matters anymore."
He frowns, brushing a lock of hair out of your eyes. "We have to save Jungkook."
You nod, then hang your head. "I know, I just... Everything's falling apart, and I know Jungkook's next."
The worst part is: Jimin doesn't even argue.
~~~

Jungkook hisses and huffs as he fights the beast while flames engulf his vision. The class 6 doesn't care about his power, it simply keeps attacking Jungkook while destroying buildings and killing people at the same time.

"How dare you hurt them!" Jungkook yells, blasting flames at the demon.

It knocks him away, and Jungkook whines as he nearly hits a building. His wings stop him in time. However, before he can do another attack run, he hears a loud pounding noise.

It's not coming from the class 6.

Seconds later, explosions sound off, Jungkook gasping when he sees several tanks roll across the street, firing shells up at the demon. Holy shit, the military is here to help them?

Jungkook lets out a small breath, feeling like he's in control again. Momentarily, he started to lose focus. When he loses focus, that's when it gets bad. Right now, however, he's in complete control of what he does and thinks.

The military brought several tanks to support. Jungkook can even hear the roar of fighter jets hit the sky, meaning the new allies are coming in hot. Jungkook almost cheers. They're not alone. There's no way the military actually does anything against the class 6, but at least their firepower can distract it while Jungkook goes for the kill.

Only one problem: how does he kill a class 6?

He chooses not to think about it yet. Hopefully firing flames at it and stabbing will do the trick. Jungkook goes back into his demon mode, flying forward and dodging the attacks the military gives the beast to instead fight it head on.

It growls and whimpers in astonishment, then steps on several tanks to destroy them. Jungkook clenches his jaw and cuts his sword into the skin of the class 6. Its armor is weaker than before, the class 6 howling and grabbing Jungkook. The tanks fire more rapidly, trying to get the demon to let Jungkook go. It doesn't work.

Instead, Jungkook gets thrown all the way to the ground. The flamed wings he has protect him from suffering major damage, but he groans regardless.

"Koo!" Y/N's sweet voice calls.

He gets to his feet, not bothering to look back at his other Hunters he can hear rushing for him. "Let me handle this!" Jungkook yells, hopping up and flying back towards the creature. To his surprise, Jimin flies with him.

"Not alone," Jimin mumbles.

This feels oddly right. It feels right that he's fighting side-by-side with Jimin. Jungkook nods and the pair attack in sync. They go back and forth, swiping at their foe. It focuses on the tanks and jets, taking them out relatively easily before snapping around to face Jikook. The size of the thing intimidates Jungkook, but he can't let it get to him now. He has to save the world. He can worry about fear later.

Jungkook goes to attack when the beast knocks him back a bit, instead grabbing Jimin and squeezing hard enough that even from his spot, Jungkook can hear the bones cracking. Jimin screams in pain, crying from the feeling of his bones shattering. Jungkook rushes into action, making a large dent in the skin the class 6 uses as armor. Soon enough, Jimin is let go, but he falls to the ground, his sword breaking and his girlfriend panicking and running over.

"You bastard!" Jungkook shouts. The creature notices people running and stomps on them, killing them instantly.

"You can't protect any of them," it whispers.

Jungkook yelps in surprise. How the hell can this thing talk?! Jungkook doesn't have time to question it, however. Seconds later, he gets his ass kicked.

The demon predicts all his movements, scratching him and making him bleed. Jungkook whimpers while fighting, feeling his energy slowly diminishing as the time passes. They go back and forth while the other Hunters try attacking from the ground, but it's nearly impossible. Not only will they get stomped on, but the best way to kill a demon of this power is to go for the head. Jimin and Jungkook are the only two who can do that, and Jimin's out of the fight with more broken bones than Jungkook's had in his life.

Jungkook finds himself being grabbed like Jimin. He lights up in fear, preparing to feel himself get crushed to death. Instead, it brings Jungkook closer.

"Why are you fighting us?" it asks in its familiar booming voice. "Why are you hurting your own kind?"

"You kill people."

"We feed to survive. Humans are predators, but they have weaknesses too."

Jungkook almost cries. "You're hurting my friends, we're fighting back. It's self-defense!"

It shakes its bulky head. "You're making a mistake by not joining us. Why don't you think about it while you're paralyzed and unable to move?"

Jungkook's eyes widen. Seconds later, he's getting smashed into the ground. Jungkook gasps, his entire body on fire from pain. His half-breed powers die just like that, his spine feeling like it shattered from the impact of the throw. He stares up at the class 6, the thing huffing and going to attack his friends.

"No! Kill me!" he screams at the top of his lungs.

The class 6 surprisingly stops, turning to glare down at Jeon Jungkook. It growls, then kneels and sharpens its claw. "I'll give you one last chance: join me," it insists.

Jungkook feels hot tears stream down his face. "Fuck... you," he whispers, bitterly laughing.

This is it. This is where he dies. The class 6 grunts dismissively, raising its claw. Jungkook closes his eyes as it swings, about to stab him... but the impact never comes.

Blood splatters on Jungkook, his eyes snapping open. And that's when he sees it.

"No," he weakly whispers, unable to utter another sound.

His tears burn his skin as they fall, his heart breaking and hurting him more than the physical pain the class 6 brought him. All at once, everything hits hard. The entire world falls apart in front of him. And the worst part? He can't even move to stop it.

Right in front of him is Park Jimin, and he has the class 6's claw through his chest...
