The Allbrook Boy - 24
It's been four days since the group of Hunters left the complex. The rift is mere minutes away and it shows. Everyone's silent. Everyone knows what's about to happen, and they're terrified.
Jungkook swallows his nerves while thinking of what's about to happen. Everything's starting to fall apart, huh? He almost laughs at the thoughts swarming inside him.
His girlfriend senses his nerves and sighs, coming over to hold his hand. It's still quiet between the pair. It's not like they have much to say anyway. He gives her hand a squeeze she's quick to return. Soon enough, the silence is unbearable, and he clears his throat.
"Do you have any idea what's gonna be there?" he asks.
She shakes her head. "The odds are a lot of demons. I only hope there's a way to close it."
"You and I both know the answer is right here," he says, pointing to Jimin, then to himself. "One of us holds the answer. The prophecy has to be true."
"Why?" she asks in a whisper.
He lets out a shaky breath. "Because if it isn't, then there's no hope for any of us."
The two of them go quiet again, as do the rest of the Hunters. The area they're in now has a lot of trees, but Jungkook can faintly see a beach up ahead. Or, at least, a lot of sand. It's night, so it's hard to tell for sure, but he can make out the ripples and can hear some waves crashing.
Jungkook finds himself thinking about the prophecy again. A prophecy that a half-breed will save them all... more specifically, a descendant of the first Hunter, Nikolai Allbrook. Is Jungkook that man? Is he a descendant? Is he not Jungkook Jeon, rather Jungkook Allbrook? That means he descended straight from angels. Angelic blood could be coursing through his veins right now and he has no idea. The idea is as terrifying as it is beautiful.
"We're close," Raven says, glancing at Jimin before glancing at the others, "I can practically smell it. It's worse than Jin's cooking."
"Please don't ever become a comedian," Jin replies, "that poor attempt at a joke was deader than the pork I cooked a few weeks ago."
She snorts. "Well, that thing was so raw it still had its feathers, so I'll take that as a compliment."
Jimin sighs at his girlfriend's words while she and Jin go back and forth. Jungkook can't bring himself to laugh at anything they're saying right now. There's too much pressure.
Raven guides them through the trees until they find the smoke that's coming out of an enormous circle in the ground. Val gets in front of everyone along with Namjoon, the two drawing their swords. Despite Val being more of a medic, she's one of their best fighters, she just doesn't show it often.
Jungkook and Y/N take their time getting up to the front, Jimin staying close to Raven and Jungkook on instinct. Jimin's known for being protective of those he cares about, and Raven and Jungkook are the two he cares for most. Not that it's a competition, but it's straight facts. Raven's the girlfriend he's been in love with since they met, and Jungkook's the only one who truly understands him. They're brothers, even if it's not biological.
"I don't see any demons," Val says, sniffing the air, "but it reeks of them. Maybe they're hiding. Stick together, someone keep their eyes on our flanks, someone else in the trees."
Jungkook takes the trees, the others silently agreeing to help each other with their flanks. He sees nothing. Absolutely nothing. No red eyes or even the smallest movement.
Together, the Hunters saunter towards the hole, their shoes hitting the sand. Jungkook winces at the sudden sinking sensation. He's always hated sand. The burn from it, the coarseness, everything. What's there to like? He's never been a big fan of beaches as a whole. The salt water hurts his eyes and tastes like shit. He'd rather swim in a pool. It's not like he loses any life-altering experience by not going to a salty ocean.
"We're almost there. Jimin, Jungkook, get up here," Val says.
Jimin and Jungkook obey, Jungkook giving his girlfriend's hand one last comforting squeeze before joining Val's side.
She points to the hole. "Any chance you can close that thing with your wavy powers?"
"Wavy powers? They're wavy?" Jimin asks.
She sighs. "You know how it works better than all of us combined."
Jimin and Jungkook can't argue with that.
"We'll take the lead," Jungkook offers.
"Woah, woah, speak for yourself. Jungkook will take the lead," Jimin corrects.
Jungkook rolls his eyes but does as he said, going first toward the giant hole in the ground. Lord, that must be the largest circle he's ever seen. Well, that's not saying much; Jungkook doesn't exactly notice the circles around him in his daily life, but that thing must be a good fifty feet all around. He's not good at math, so there's no way in hell he could say the diameter, but he does know it's deep enough to kill anyone. Half of the fall would kill someone from shock and pressure.
He peeks down it, being careful not to get too close. It's a dark crimson hole, steam hissing up into their faces and hurting the skin there. Jungkook winces at the feeling but doesn't pull away.
"I don't see any demons," Jungkook says. Jimin nods in agreement, gulping and shivering. "Hey, you okay?"
"Heights," he mumbles, backing away so he doesn't have to look anymore.
Jungkook hums in acknowledgement, backing away with him. "Good news is we have time to figure this out. Bad news is I don't know how to activate my powers when we're not in danger," Jungkook tells the group.
There's a chorus of groans that follows.
"I don't either," Jimin says, "it only activates whenever Raven or Jungkook is in danger."
"Mine comes out when Jimin or Y/N are in danger."
The others nod in acceptance, then, Val gets up and holds a dagger to Y/N's throat.
Jungkook hops to his feet. "Excuse you?!"
Val keeps it pressed up against her neck, giving Jungkook an emotionless gaze. He tunes the others out, only glaring at Val while she threatens to harm his girl.
"Let her go right fucking now!" Jungkook yells, gritting his teeth.
Jimin backs off, almost smirking at the sight of Jungkook's anger. Val only tightens her grip, practically drawing blood. That's what makes Jungkook snap.
His fingertips glow, his eyes glowing with them. The familiar dark red filling his vision. Val chuckles, slyly smiling. It's that that finally alerts Jungkook to what's going on. A fake-out, huh? Jungkook's color dies down, the danger leaving his senses.
"Shit," she mumbles, "my fault, shouldn't have gave it away."
Jungkook shakes her off. "It'll need to be a constant threat. My powers aren't like telekinesis and magic, my powers are... wait, what the fuck are my powers?"
"You're hotter than normal!" Y/N says, giving him a thumbs up.
Jungkook sighs. "Thanks, babe."
At least someone's supporting him.
"Funny, I thought so much about the demons and how we'd fight them that I didn't consider the possibility of no demons being here at all," Val admits, Namjoon nodding in agreement.
Raven sits down near the rift, staring at it with a troubled gaze. "Do you think they'll climb up and fight us when they sense us here?"
Jimin sits next to her, wrapping an arm around her shoulder. "If they do, I'll be right by your side."
Jungkook softly smiles at the sight of the young couple. Speaking of couples, Y/N casts him a worried stare. He shakes it off right away.
"I'll be fine. Figuring out this whole rift drama is the first step, right?"
She nods and comes a bit closer, holding his hand. "You don't have to do it alone, you know."
"I know, but I don't want my family getting hurt. Especially not you." He turns to her, placing a hand on her cheek. "I love you, Y/N. I hope you know that."
However, she never gets the chance to reply.
A screech is heard, Raven and Jimin yelping and jumping back. Everyone draws their weapons, Jiven rushing to the back to be their archers. Jungkook gets in front of Y/N on instinct, the woman shooting him a confused look, but she doesn't verbally voice her complaints. Jungkook stands at attention, narrowing his eyes and waiting. Waiting and waiting and waiting. The seconds that tick by irk him even more. The grip on his blade tightens, the roar getting closer and closer until...
A gigantic, winged demon flies free of the rift, screaming out its victory. Shit, that's a class 4. Jungkook grits his teeth as arrows fly out, Jimin and Raven getting to work with covering them. Jungkook's glow hits him again, his vision hazy with redness.
"No matter what, stay close," he whispers to his girl. The woman nods in acceptance.
The beast whips down at them, a full brawl breaking out. The group of Hunters attacks, Apollo and Jayden helping each other as they always do. Griffin's blue eyes shimmer under the moonlight while he practically does a dance to get closer to the class 4. The thing lets out a hiss of rebellion and swoops down, knocking Apollo, Jayden, and Griff on their asses. Jungkook joins the fight, hopping onto the creature's leg and jabbing at it. It's safe to say he gets thrown down seconds later.
A flash of blond enters Jungkook's eyesight, Apollo now back on his feet and protecting his comrades as best he can. The beast roars and prepares to do another attack run, but Raven bursts free from the crowd and almost yells while shooting at the thing. Her next arrow strikes it right in the head, killing it. The dust soars in the wind, the arrow falling to the ground after the demon disappears.
The group pants, Jimin coming over and pecking the top of Raven's head. "That's my girl," he whispers, grabbing her arrow for her.
"And that's my gentleman," she replies.
Jungkook and Y/N roll their eyes in sync. There are two different types of relationships, that's for sure. Sure, Jungkook and Y/N are cheesy and overdramatic, but even they're not as bad as Jiven.
"Jimin, Jungkook, anything?" Tae asks, stepping a bit closer to Jungkook on instinct.
Jungkook pats the man's shoulder. "Nothing. I wish we could check in on Hoseok and Yoongi."
"I hope they're okay," Jin mutters, "can't be easy having everyone else out here fighting while they're stuck back there in case of an ambush."
"Maybe we should've left more behind," Val says with an exasperated sigh, "but at the same time, what else can we do?"
"All we can do is pray that Jikook think of something," Namjoon whispers.
"You know it doesn't have to be them," Apollo points out. "We're all Hunters here. Just because they're half-breeds doesn't mean they can close a whole fucking rift. Instead of being lazy, let's actually think as a team, yeah? Jungkook and Jimin shouldn't have to do all the work."
Raven, Jayden, and Griffin are quick to nod in agreement, forming a small huddle around Apollo. They quietly speak amongst themselves to gather ideas. Anything that can close this stupid rift.
"It's probably a safe bet that more will come out," Jungkook says.
Jimin hums. "Would it be wise to set up a permanent camp around these woods? All the demons come from that hole. Why wait for them to come for us when we can come to them?"
"That's a good point," Y/N says, pursing her lips in thought.
Ah, she'll come up with a great idea. Jungkook recognizes that look anywhere: she's on the verge of an amazing thought. All her thoughts are amazing, but this even more so tha-
'Crack!'
Jungkook goes still, as do the others. Another pounding footstep-like sound rings out, almost hurting Jungkook's ears from the bass it produces. The ground shakes, Jungkook gasping and falling. The other Hunters follow.
"What the fuck is this?!" Apollo calls out.
They get their answer moments later when the cries of confusion go silent. Instead, a giant clawed-hand is placed on the sand, hisses following. Then, the creature hoists itself up. The entire group of Hunters on the ground don't utter a single sound as the thing comes into full view, the ginormous body alone sending Jungkook into a state of panic.
The demon towers over all of them. No wings, no tail. It's one massive, human-shaped creature covered in black smog and gooey gray skin, some cracks of fire-colored streaks littering its skin.
Then the screams start. All the Hunters screech in horror at the sight, hopping to their feet and rushing as far away as they can. Half of them are crying, Jungkook too in shock to process what the hell is happening as he gazes at the colossal figure in front of them. His tongue is dry, too horrified to even form words. His girlfriend is crying, clinging onto his hand as if saying goodbye. And that's when it hits him.
This one is a class 6.
The realization whacks Jungkook where it hurts most, all his air being stolen from the caverns behind his rib cage. He drops his sword and considers begging for mercy for a beat, then he remembers it's their job to protect the humans. If they can't kill a class 6, no one can.
A class 6 is the rarest, with only one known sighting ever. But that one sighting wiped out almost every Hunter in the world. Every one except the ones standing before it and the two they left at home.
Class 6's are kings. They're the overlords of the world, and taking out one almost destroyed everything. It took years to recover, and even then, no one's the same. Jungkook didn't even know it until now, but he's still the same terrified kid from all those years ago.
The class 6's presence seems to summon a heavy rain, the droplets pitter-pattering down the sand one by one. Jungkook swallows his nerves. It doesn't work. Now is not the time to freeze up, but unfortunately, he can't control it. However, that changes when the beast goes to attack.
Although not agile, the thing has insane strength and durability. It knocks Griffin over, and not just knocks. It completely throws Griffin into the forest. Luckily his body doesn't hit any trees, otherwise he'd be out for the rest of the fight.
Jungkook snaps to his senses and rushes forward, his girlfriend screaming after him. No, he needs to do this. He's a half-breed. This is the one time in his life where he's useful. The one time he shouldn't be scared.
Red fills his eyes, his fingertips glowing, flame-filled wings bursting out of his back. He snarls like a beast as he flies, horns poking free on his head. The demon's crimson eyes gaze at him curiously, then, it attacks. Jungkook yelps as he dodges, Raven and Jimin shooting arrows to support him. Jungkook mentally thanks them for the support, going closer to the creature's face with his sword. When he gets there, however, his body gets grabbed by a massive hand.
He yells in pain, his body completely constricted by the force of the thing. It brings Jungkook closer to its glimmering dark eyes.
"Foolish," the thing mutters in an echoing tone.
Jungkook's eyes almost jump out of his head. "You can fucking talk?!" Jungkook screams.
However, his words fall on deaf ears. The creature throws Jungkook away like he's nothing.
The air that slams against him makes his body shiver with cold sweats. His wings fade away, his sword slipping from his fingers. The last thing he remembers seeing is the dark sky covered with clouds. The last thing he remembers feeling is a single drop of rain hitting his cheek.
Both of those memories are the last thing he remembers before his back hits the tree and he passes out.

"How precious, the Allbrook boy is still so determined."
Jungkook goes still, trying to feel for his body. Nothing. Nothing comes to him.
"Allbrook's... Nikolai was just as compassionate and determined as his descendant," a female voice calls, dancing around Jungkook's mind. It's like the voice is in Jungkook's head. Upon that realization, he jolts up, snapping open his eyes with all the willpower he can find.
He heaves, whipping his gaze around the room only to see that it appears infinite. It's an infinite white space. Nothing but whiteness and whiteness and whiteness.
Jungkook goes for his sword, but to his surprise, he doesn't feel it. He weakly stands, his legs about to buckle underneath him when he hears a laugh. A heavenly laugh. A melodic, sweet laugh that would've put him right to sleep if he wasn't in such a panic.
Jungkook snaps around to face the source of the sound only to have his body go stiff. The thing in front of him is indeed a woman, but this one is huge. She must be around forty feet tall, sitting on a mass of white acting as a throne. The woman has pale skin almost as white as the rest of the room. Her elegant gown is the same color. The only thing on her body not white is the blush on her cheeks and the locks of her hair. The contrasting jet-black long hair makes him gulp. It's the only color in the whole place. Even he has nothing on but a white, hospital-like robe.
"Ah, my child, you're awake," she says. Her white eyes seem strangely pleased.
"Who the he-" He gags before he can say the curse, falling to his knees.
"Heaven is no place to curse, don't you think?" she asks.
"N-No. I can't be dead... I can't be..." He wobbly glances up at her, holding a hand over his gut. "You said Allbrook. If I'm an Allbrook, then I'm the prophecy. I'm the half-breed who can bring balance to the world and stop the demons forever!"
He forces himself to his feet and stands with his shoulders set. His determination makes the woman chuckle.
"You certainly have the determination of an Allbrook, but no, I wasn't talking about you."
"Then who? If one of ours is an Allbrook, we would know by now, don't you think?" he asks, trying not to sound hostile, but he knows he's failing.
The woman shrugs him off, patting the air. "Jimin Park."
She says it as though the revelation doesn't change the whole course of the shadow world.
Jungkook heaves with his eyes widening. "Jimin... Jimin's a descendant of the most powerful Hunter in our history?"
"His true name is Jimin Allbrook, not Jimin Park," she explains as she stands. "A half-breed Allbrook. Pure angelic blood rushing through his veins. When he and his future wife have a child, they'll create one of the most powerful Hunters the world has ever seen. Even more powerful than Nikolai himself."
Jungkook takes a step back. "You can see our futures?"
"Not precisely," she replies, "merely flashes. I hear as many horrible things as I do wonderful. I hear the church bells and the words 'I do' coming from Raven, but also the screams of terror as one of your friends sacrifices themselves to save the rest."
On instinct, he balls his hands into fists. "Who are you? Why are you here with me when you could be helping my friends! They're fighting a class 6!" Jungkook cries.
"I cannot help them. As an angel, interaction with the real world is strictly forbidden, even if I am the ruler of heaven. But I can appear in your mind."
"So this is real? This is all real?"
She nods. "I am Lillian, ruler of the skies. The angel whom blessed Nikolai with his Hunter powers."
Jungkook isn't sure how to react at this point. All the answers are in front of him, every last bit... but he doesn't even care.
"I want my friends," he demands, "take me back to them."
"Only a minute has passed in the real world, no fret."
"I don't care! Take me back to my friends right fuc-" He falls over again, gagging over the curse word. "What the..." Realizing he can't say any curses, he remembers to filter himself as he sits up as best he can. "If Jimin's the prophecy child, then why are you visiting me?"
Her eyes light up at the question, and within a flash, she morphs herself down to actual size. She goes from a forty foot giant to someone shorter than him. She saunters forward, her face now full of color. Tan skin and red lips, pink cheeks and blue eyes, black hair and clinking heels. She kneels in front of him, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"You're the foil to Jimin, my boy," she whispers.
"What?"
"Jimin has pure angel blood in his veins... but you? Your father was a demon."
Jungkook almost breaks down crying at the revelation. "No. No, that's impossible!"
"In very rare cases, some demons that can shift into humans decide to live a normal life. That's what yours did. And my, we should thank him for creating such a man like you."
Jungkook's tears keep coming, but he manages to hold back his breakdown. "What are you talking about?"
She stands, dusting off her elegant dress. "Genes do not determine who the prophecy child is: I do. At first, I was going to choose Jimin. I'll admit, I was hesitant to even look at you because of your demon blood. But now, I choose you."
Jungkook's sobs finally leave his parched lips, his body practically convulsing. "How?! I'm no one! Jimin's the Allbrook, he should be the prophecy, not me! He's the one with pure blood!"
She sits in front of him and shakes her head. "My boy, your blood doesn't define who you are. I'm sorry I didn't see that. You may not come from much, but you're wrong. You have a powerful family too."
Jungkook gazes up at her, his face covered in snot and tears. "How? My parents are gone. My own father is a demon!"
She offers him the kindest smile he's ever seen. "There are many, many different interpretations of words, Mr. Jeon. You can take certain words and spin them into new definitions. Like love. We all have our own views and definitions of love. I have my own definition of family. It used to be blood, but because of you, it changed. In my dictionary, family isn't blood. It's who you choose it to be. And Jungkook, the people you chose are extraordinary."
Jungkook can't stop his mental breakdown now. He's not sure what it's from. Being visited by an angel, the class 6, being told he has demon blood, Jimin being Jimin Allbrook, or the words the most powerful angel in the world is telling him. It's probably a mix of all of them, but his mind can't distinguish anything right now. But... there's one person he sees. Even though everything is distorted, there's one woman he sees clearly.
"Y/N," he says in a gasp. "I need to get back to her."
Lillian lightly chuckles, patting him on the shoulder. "I told all this, yet you still have her as your priority."
"I don't matter, but her? She's the reason I was able to do the things I've done. Without her, I wouldn't have my half-breed powers."
Lillian nods in acceptance. "Speaking of powers, are you ready to embrace your full ones?"
He freezes. "I'm sorry... full?"
"I'll unlock your demon blood's full potential. The prophecy child gets special powers, Jungkook. Are you ready to embrace the responsibility?"
He stares at her, sniffling ever so slightly. "It should be Jimin," he whispers. His words almost sound like a plea.
She frowns. "No, Jungkook—it should be you."
She offers him her hand, giving him a desperate gaze. Funny, he never thought he'd see an angel let alone see one looking at him like this.
Although hesitant, he slips his hand into hers. Right away, his skin tingles, more gasps leaving his throat. Instead of the classic red, he sees a whole rainbow break out before him. He snarls, horns glowing on his head and wings doing the same. He's coated with fire, his heart beating faster.
And it's at that moment he loses control.
~~~
Jimin pants, noticing Y/N standing off to the side aiding an injured Jin. Namjoon and Val are fighting side-by-side, playing off each other well. Jimin can tell even from here how worried Val is about Jin, but she keeps fighting anyway.
Jimin's in front of Raven, kneeling so she can shoot over him. He grunts as he lets another arrow fly.
"This thing isn't even flinching!" Jimin calls.
The others agree, trying to fight harder, but it's impossible when A) that thing is gigantic B) it's a class 6 and C) they don't have Jungkook.
Speaking of powers and abilities, Jimin's aren't fully kicked in for some reason. He gulps, glancing around.
Raven stares at him with her eyes widening. "Are you okay?"
He goes to nod, but he doesn't remember completing the motion. Raven rushes to him as he falls onto one knee. He holds his head and groans.
"Jimin, please. What's wrong? Tell me what's wrong," she begs, placing a hand on his cheek.
He dryly chuckles and meets her worried gaze. "Don't be worried, babe. I'm fine, go back to fighting. I think I'll just lay here for a while."
She keeps him steady, not hiding the panic in her tone anymore. "Jimin, you need to stay with me! What's going on? Is it your half-breed powers? Talk to me, please!"
He tries to speak, but nothing comes out. That is until a flash of red fills the sky. Flames burst out, the Hunters stopping. Hell, even the class 6 stops at the sight of the flames. Jimin feels his air come back to him, the dizziness fading.
"Jungkook... I need Jungkook to function," he mumbles upon the realization. They're connected. They're half-breeds who are meant to be together. It's like two halves create a whole.
Like a dam, the walls break and Jimin's powers kick in. He feels wings sprout out of his back, only they aren't flames like Jungkook's. Jimin can't help but notice he doesn't have horns like Jungkook either. Not that it matters, he's sure the powers they're given are different for every half-breed.
He huffs, flying up while Raven watches, equally horrified and amazed.
"Don't you dare get yourself killed, Park Jimin!" she yells after him, the distraught dripping into her tone. Right when he meets her eyes from high above her, he notices her lower lip quivering. "I can't lose you. You're the boy I'm gonna marry."
Despite being literally in half-breed form and about to fight a class 6, Jimin finds himself flustered from that comment. Regardless, he smiles.
"I'll be right back, babe," he replies with a wink.
He soars over to Jungkook's flaming form, the man attacking the class 6 with no mercy. Even from here, Jimin can hear the screams. Jungkook attacks again and again, hitting the beast with his sword.
Jimin slowly comes to a stop, eyes almost bursting out of his skull upon seeing the flames encompassing Jungkook's sword. Jimin hisses as he gains some distance, noticing how Jungkook's glow is... beeping? No, fading in and out. It's bright one second, then it goes dark. It's like flashing lights.
Jimin glances over Jungkook's body and lets out a surprised gasp. Jungkook has a fucking demon tail?!
Jimin hovers back a bit, and just in time. A warping sound goes off, Jungkook's lights getting brighter and brighter until... bam! Flames break through everyone's field of vision, almost blinding them for a moment. When Jimin adjusts to the brightness, his jaw drops.
Jungkook's using his sword to shoot flames at the beast.
"Is this fucking Avatar?!" Jimin shouts, not expecting an answer.
Is Jungkook a firebender now? Is that what's happening? Jimin sighs, not even surprised anymore. This is Jeon Jungkook.
Jimin stares, mesmerized by Jungkook's fighting. That is until the class 6 whimpers and transforms.
The thing shrinks down into the size of a cheetah, dashing off at what looks like the speed of light. Jungkook is about to pursue it when Jimin flies over, grabbing his elbow.
"Not worth it," Jimin mumbles, "let it come to us, we don't know if it's leading us into a trap. But I think you injured it. Good job, Kook."
The man doesn't reply, he merely goes back down to the ground. Jimin lets out a breath of relief, going down to Raven and letting his powers wear off.
She hugs him tightly while crying. "God, you scared me shitless!"
He chuckles, shushing her soft cries and stroking her hair. "I'm sorry. I'm not going anywhere, I promise," he whispers, cradling her like a baby.
She pulls back first, pressing her somehow soft lips on his. How the fuck are they still smooth even though they were walking for several days? Eh, whatever, he's not in the mood to care.
He kisses back, holding her head as close to his as possible. It's not close enough. His body is pressed on hers, but it's still not enough.
When they part, they sniffle, smiling at each other before turning to face the others. Jungkook is panting, his powers still activated. Jimin furrows his brows, giving Raven's hand a squeeze before taking a cautious step closer.
"Kook...?" Jimin asks, being sure to give Jungkook the space he needs. Y/N is doing the same, gulping and watching him with fear. Jungkook balls his hands into fists, standing straight up.
"Look, I'm sorry I stopped you, but we need to take time to regro-" Jimin doesn't get a chance to finish his sentence.
Before he can, Jungkook attacks him.
