Mimic - 15
Jimin keeps himself in a squatting position while peering down at the battlefield. All his friends, minus Jungkook and Apollo, are there, preparing for the demon attack. His girlfriend is next to him, polishing her bow, but neither of them are talking. How can they? They have a lot on their minds. Jimin's glowing already. No, not just the Hunter glow. His half-breed powers are kicking in.
"So it's true," Raven says.
She breaks the silence that hung over them for several minutes. Part of him is grateful, the other part isn't.
"I'm gonna hop down for a minute," she says.
"Why?"
"You're bright."
He chuckles and comes closer, brushing some hair out of her face. "Don't leave, my love. We have demons on the way."
She sighs. "I really have to go, I need an extra quiver. We were making out so much that I forgot it."
"Are you kidding?"
"Blame yourself, not me!" she protests with a huff.
Jimin comes over and pecks her lips twice, holding her close. "Stay. We'll make due with what we have."
"I can't take that risk. Our friends are relying on us to watch their backs, and the longer we bicker about this, the more likely we get surprise attacked if we aren't in the process of it already."
He knows she's right, so he doesn't bother protesting. "I'll miss you."
"Then it's a good thing I'll be back in a minute," she cheekily replies.
He watches her climb down the tower, making sure she gets inside safely before he turns his attention to the front gates.
Jimin looks at his fingertips and frowns upon seeing the glow. He's a Hunter—he's not supposed to be a half-breed. What unlocked this? Why didn't it unlock sooner?
He lets out a grunt. It's not like there's anyone around to tell him these answers. Were Jimin and Jungkook's powers connected? When Jungkook activated his, Jimin's started not long after. Is that what this is?
Jimin keeps staring at his glowing fingertips and lets a tense breath leave his throat. For once, he wants to know what's going on. For once, he wants a clear explanation.
A frown threatens to form on Jimin's lips, but he manages to bite it back. His girl won't like him frowning. The thought of Raven makes him smile. There, now she can see a smile when she comes back.
He waits a good two minutes before starting to get worried. Where the hell is she? It's a close walk, isn't it? He was able to watch her go inside the compound.
Jimin's about to stand to go find her when she climbs back up with a quiver in her hand.
"Hey," she greets.
Jimin shoots her a smile. "There you are, I was getting worried." He pecks her lips. "Ready to save our friends from the demons?"
Her left eye twitches, then she nods. "Always."
Jimin furrows his brows. "You okay, babe?"
She brushes him off. "A little tired to be honest. I didn't sleep well last night."
"Aww, baby. Come over to my room then. I'll change that real fast," he murmurs, peppering her face with kisses.
She laughs and hugs him. His heart melts at the touch.
"Thank you," she whispers.
He strokes her hair lovingly, burying his head into her shoulder. "Anything for you, my love."
Before he can pull back, he feels her reaching for his waistband. "Woah, babe, we're on duty," he says with a chuckle. But she doesn't stop. Jimin pushes her back in time for her to grab a dagger from his belt. His eyes jump. "Babe?" She gives him cold eyes, squeezing the dagger in her hand. "Rave? Baby? What's wrong?"
Without answering him, she pounces.
Jimin yelps when she knocks him over, about to stab him when he grabs her wrist with his hand and holds it in place.
"Baby, what are you doing?!" he cries, tears burning his eyes. She doesn't reply once again. "Baby please!"
He lets out a sharp gasp. He doesn't want to hurt her, but he knows he has to. Jimin flips her over and pins her down, taking the dagger. He grabs both of her hands and glares down at her.
"What the hell is your problem?!"
His words don't do much; she doesn't even flinch. Her eyes remain emotionless, and her lips never move to show a frown or smile.
The realization starts to dawn upon him, so he takes a risk: he stabs her in the thigh. She yelps, and seconds later, her cries of pain become demonic.
A mimic.
Jimin frowns as his hands shake. He knows what he has to do, but he can't do it. Looking at her face? He can't do it even with the knowledge that it's not Raven beneath him: it's a mimic demon.
Jimin grabs another dagger off of his belt and raises it, preparing to strike. Then, she plays her trap card. She meets his eyes and gives him a look of pain.
"Y-You're hurting me," she says in a whimper, tears falling down her face, "you're hurting me, Min. Please stop."
He goes still at that. "You're not her."
Even he knows how weak his words sound.
"You're not her," he repeats. Jimin's not sure if he's saying it to her or himself.
She gives him a pleading, scared expression. His heart stops, same with his body. That look... no. No, he can't do this.
"Baby, please," she whispers. She manages to break a hand free and places it on his cheek. "Please."
He stares at her for a few moments, his eyes widening and his heart beating faster. What if it is her? What if she's trapped inside and it isn't just a mimic?
His mind races with horrible thoughts until he feels pain rip out through his side. Jimin gasps for air at the feeling of the knife entering his body, a scream leaving his lips.
He rolls over and pants, clutching the handle of the dagger. While he was distracted, she grabbed his hand and made him stab himself with the blade.
Jimin hits the back wall, staring as Raven stands and dusts herself off. She picks up an arrow from his quiver and rushes over. Knowing he has to, he pulls the blade out of his side and stabs her as soon as she gets close. Her eyes widen, the blade sinking into her stomach. Her gaze locks on his.
"J-Jimin," she stutters.
Jimin sobs as she falls down, and he cradles her in his arms. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry," he whimpers, kissing her forehead, making sure the arrow is far away from her. "I'm sorry," he repeats in a mutter, keeping his forehead on hers.
He knows it's not her, but it's still her face. It's her face and body doing these things. He gulps down his tears and groans, the pain in his side becoming too much to bear. He needs to move before he bleeds out.
The blood drips onto the floor, every fiber of his being hating his life right about now. He watches Raven's eyes close, then, dust falls on him. She really was a demon. Then, a terrifying thought strikes his brain: where's the real Raven?
"Oh no. Oh God no. No, no!" he yells, forcing himself to climb down the watchtower. Jimin almost screams in pain while going down, landing on the grassy terrain with a hiss.
Jimin limps inside the compound, glancing around in time to see a quiver of arrows on the ground. He pants and speed walks forward. As soon as he turns the corner, he sees his woman on the ground, unconscious.
"Raven!" he calls, going over and sitting, bringing her onto his lap. He searches for her pulse and lets out a breath when he feels it. "Baby, please wake up. Please!"
"Jimin?" Jungkook's voice asks.
He whips around in time to see Apollo assisting a limping Jungkook. "Jungkook? What happened?"
"Shouldn't I be asking you that?" Jungkook asks back, bewilderment in his eyes.
"Raven she... she got hurt by a mimic."
"Jimin, you're bleeding pretty badly. Come on, we need to go," Jungkook insists.
Jimin picks Raven up, pain ripping through his body, but he ignores it. He winces but keeps holding her.
"Jimin, you have a gaping stab wound!" Jungkook yells.
"I don't care!" Jimin yells back, "they hurt her... t-they hurt her..."
A soft cry escapes his lips, Jungkook lighting up with sympathy. "Come on, let's get to the infirmary."
Jimin sniffles and nods, following Jungkook and Apollo until they reach the small room. Jimin lays Raven down, Jungkook bringing Jimin to the next bed.
"Apollo, do you know how to do stitches?" Jungkook asks.
"Isn't that a must?" Apollo replies with a snort, grabbing medical supplies from off of the cabinets.
Jimin gazes at them while they work, then, he furrows his brows. His eyes naturally go over to Raven.
He gulps. "Guys?"
"Hang on, we almost have everything we need," Jungkook says.
Jimin frowns. "Guys."
"Hang on."
"Guys!"
Apollo and Jungkook stop, turning to face the injured man.
"What is it?" Jungkook asks.
"A mimic got Raven," Jimin sternly says.
"Yeah, and?"
Jimin lets out a sharp breath. "How did it get in here?"
Jungkook slowly shifts his body toward Apollo, and the man holds up his hands in defense.
"You lied about being a half-breed and I got pissed. I hated watching Jimin walk around perfectly fine after his injuries when I couldn't," Apollo's quick to say.
Jungkook hesitates before nodding and turning to Jimin. "You came to rescue Y/N and I at the cathedral from a hydra."
Jimin nods. "Jin's the one who found out I'm a half-breed."
All three of them relax, then, they tense up again.
"Wait, was it only one demon-"
Jungkook's cut off by a loud screech sounding off in the hallway.
"Shit," he mumbles, grabbing his sword.
"Jungkook, you're insanely injured-"
"Keep them safe! I need to stop that thing before it gets to the others!" Jungkook interrupts.
Apollo huffs and watches the young man rush out of the room.
Jimin rolls his eyes. "He never learns, does he?"
A small smile spreads across Apollo's lips. "No, he doesn't, but at least his heart's in the right place. He's a good kid."
Jimin shakes his head with a look of worry mixed with pride on his face.
"Yeah... yeah, he is."
~~~
Jungkook's an idiot.
He ran out of the infirmary thinking that he could take on another demon. There's the problem of his broken hand, sure, but there's also the damn gash on his stomach that bleeds more by the second. Jungkook ignores it, though. Instead, his powers kick in strong with his horns starting to glow brighter on his head.
There's a reason for his sudden surge in power—he's thinking of her. Of Y/N. Of everything she's been through. He can't let her get caught by a mimic. Those things are deadly; they knock out their victims and steal their appearance. It's disgusting.
Jungkook rushes down the hall, his adrenaline spiking. Where the hell is it? Or maybe there's more than one, who fucking knows.
Jungkook keeps his broken hand cradled against his chest as he runs. The roaring and hissing gets louder. It doesn't occur to him that it might be a trap until he's already run into it, and three people spring out at him.
Jungkook gasps and falls to the ground at the force, looking up in surprise to see three people he's never met standing in front of him.
There are two guys and one girl. After a beat, they begin shifting. They shift from a normal human appearance to a class 3 demon in the course of seconds.
What the fuck?
It's been years since Jungkook's seen any demons like these. Some demons are able to walk around as humans. They look and act like them; they even have the same body parts. But they can also change into demons. They're called shifters. Shifters and mimics are two of the most dangerous classes—you never know what to expect.
As soon as the demons pounce at Jungkook, he snaps back to his senses. Jungkook almost growls as he rolls away, whipping up and tossing a dagger into one of them. It lands in its back, the creature taking it out with no effort.
Shit, this might be harder than Jungkook thought.
Regardless, he grits his teeth and uses his sword, sliding in between the three and cutting at their legs. Jungkook manages to take out the legs on one, the thing falling to the ground in a fury of screams.
He rolls away before he can get hit again, but his sword gets swiped out of his hands. He has no more daggers and his sword is too far for him to get. Great.
Jungkook glares them down, then, everything feels dark. His body seems to forget that it's in pain. The blood on his stomach stops pouring, the broken hand gone, the head injury nothing more than an inconvenience.
The ecstasy of his powers hit his core, and he springs into action. He's faster than he's ever been before. Stronger, faster, better.
Jungkook laughs as he punches one of the demons with his broken hand, not feeling a thing. The demon goes flying backwards and into the wall. The other attempts to jump on Jungkook while his back is turned, but he ducks as the monster soars over him.
In one fluid motion, Jungkook does a roll to his sword and picks it up. He turns in time for a demon to jump at him, landing right on Jungkook's blade.
Dust hits Jungkook's leg. Two demons left. One is crying in pain and has no legs, the other is recovering from the strong blow Jungkook gave him. He chuckles, mercilessly stabbing the legless one before sauntering over to the other. It shifts back into a human male Jungkook doesn't recognize and puts up his hands, a pleading look in his eyes.
"Please... please, spare me," he begs.
"Not happening," Jungkook says before ending his life.
He stands there in triumph, the dust of the dead demons littering the ground. Jungkook's horns slowly fade away, and it's just now that the pain comes back to Jungkook's hand. He literally punched a demon with a broken hand. How is it still attached to his body?
Jungkook glances down at it in surprise, seeing that although battered, it appears healable. A laugh passes his lips once more, and a smirk blesses his face.
"I got you," he mutters, balling his good hand into a fist. "I got you, motherfuckers."
