Fight - 14

~Two Days Later~

Today's the day.

Namjoon said that a mass of demons were coming for the group in two days. That was two days ago.

Jungkook heaves out a sigh, staring at Y/N with a twinge of fear in his eyes. "No matter what happens, you'll stay behind me, right?"

"No guarantees, Jeon," she teases.

He can sense the nervousness in her teasing tone. It's not every day that a whole pack of demons hunt the Hunters down. That's unheard of. They're literally called Hunters. It's their job to do the hunting.

"Do we know how many there are yet?"

Jungkook shakes his head. "Not really. It's a mix of class 1's, 2's, and 3's. Namjoon has been in front of the tracker all day trying to find out exactly how many. He's guessing a good thirty."

"Fucking thirty?" she mumbles, cleaning off her sword.

Jimin and Raven are standing in the corner of the room, quietly chatting while cleaning off their arrows. No one else is here, just the two main couples of the group.

"Are you gonna be okay?" he whispers.

"You're the half-breed, Jeon. Shouldn't I be asking you that?"

He gives her a soft smile she's quick to return. Then, Apollo walks into the room to break their moment of serenity.

"Listen up, we have a problem. Several class 2's trying to break through our defenses."

"Where?" Jungkook asks.

"In the sewers, they're trying to come through the floors."

"Let me just get this straight: we're underground... and they're trying to come through the floors?" Y/N slowly says. Jungkook doesn't understand it himself. The sewers may be lower underground than they are, but why are the demons using that tactic?

"Namjoon doesn't want us all to go after them, there's only around six down there. He wants you and me to handle it, Jeon," Apollo explains.

"Oh hell no, Jungkook isn't going anywhere without me," Y/N protests.

"Too late, you're our best ground fighter. You're going with the others to the entrance to hold your ground. Jimin and Raven, you're getting on our watchtowers to snipe. Can you handle it?"

They both nod and swing their bows and quivers on their backs.

"No fair, they get to be together but Jungkook and I don't?" Y/N says.

"Y/N, I'll be okay. Apollo and I are the best environmental fighters we have. We know how to adapt and use our surroundings, that's why Namjoon trusts us to take them all on. It's nothing we haven't done before in secret."

Y/N looks like she's about to cry. "But what if something happens and I'm not there?"

"Not to break up your little emotional moment, but Jungkook and I have to go," Apollo says in a snap.

"Don't be so rude to her," Jungkook says on instinct. "I get it, you're mad at me for hiding the half-breed thing, but don't take it out on her. Yell at me. Go ahead, scream it. Scream about your hatred of me."

Apollo narrows his eyes, but instead of replying, he walks out of the room. "Two minutes tops," he calls, "meet me near the sewer entrance."

As soon as he's out of eyesight, Jungkook turns to her and places a hand on her cheek. Her panicking eyes stare back at him. The sight breaks his heart.

"Hey... hey, it's okay. We're all gonna be okay. I promise."

"We have thirty, maybe more, demons knocking on our doors. You know I'm a calm person, Koo, this is nothing I haven't faced before, but it's different now."

Jungkook raises both of his brows. "How is it different?"

"Because I have you," she whispers.

His eyes expand at her confession. "I'm not going anywhere. I promise."

She shakes him off. "For the first time in my life, I have more to fight for rather than just staying alive. Now I'm finally living, and it's all because of you. I can't lose that. I can't. I can't lose you."

He kisses her to shut her up. It's safe to say she kisses back right away, molding her lips onto his, forming a pattern he's quick to follow.

"Shit, babe. Can we recreate that?" Jimin's voice asks.

Both Jungkook and Y/N groan.

"Sure, come here," Raven's voice replies.

Well, great, both Jungkook and Y/N and Jiven are making out right now. This is supposed to be a serious moment, but of course Jiven comes along and makes it something else.

Jungkook pulls back and ignores the other couple in the room, instead keeping his focus on his girl.

"Listen to me: I'll be okay," he insists.

She sniffles and nods, hugging him tightly. "Come back to me, Jeon. Let's just say you owe me another date."

He laughs. "I performed that well, huh?"

"You..." She trails off and laughs with him. "You performed well enough to earn quite a few more dates."

He pecks the top of her head and pulls back. "I'll see you soon."

She shoots him a sad but accepting look. Without another word, he slips away, giving her one last nod she returns before walking out of the room.

With a sigh, he makes sure his sword is holstered and he has several daggers clipped to his utility belt. So this is it, another fight. Jungkook's a little tired of this. He doesn't care if he's the prophecy child or not anymore. If he is, he wants to get his legacy over with. If he isn't and it's Jimin, he hopes Jimin fulfills his destiny. It's a fifty-fifty chance anymore but Jungkook knows the truth. It should be Jimin.

But, for now, it doesn't matter. That's a thought for another time.

Right now, he has to go stop some demons.

~~~
Apollo opens the entrance to the sewers, Jungkook's nostrils flaring at the putrid smell. He uses his hand to shake the area around his nose and coughs, but Apollo doesn't even flinch.
"Are you even battle ready?" Jungkook asks.
"Jimin is, so I am too."
"Yeah, but..."
"I'm not a half-breed. I get it," Apollo quietly replies, "but I'm still a Hunter. I was raised to do one thing. What kind of person am I if I can't even do that one thing?" Jungkook frowns, about to speak when the man slips inside the sewer. "Come on, we have demons to hunt."
Jungkook doesn't believe him for a second. He was in a coma and woke up not too long ago, had a few days of training and PT, and is battle ready all of a sudden? He'll have to ask Jin about that. Jin was the one who kept most of the medical stats up with Valentina. It's too late to check now, but if they get out alive, Jungkook needs to have a stern talk with Apollo about injuries and knowing when to stay behind.
He slips in after the blond boy, locating his bright hair right away. Apollo draws his sword almost instantly, listening closely to the sounds made.
"The only thing I hear is dripping," Jungkook whispers.
"And your voice, of course," Apollo replies with disinterest.
Jungkook lets out a huff. "Listen, I get it, I lied to you. You have every right to be angry, but can we put this aside for a few minutes and focus on how there's dozens of demons ready to knock down our doors and kill us? That never happens. What the hell is going on out there?"
"Do you honestly think I have an answer?"
Jungkook almost curses at him. "Can you stop being a bitch for a few seconds and listen to me? I'm not going to apologize over and over again. I'm sorry I hurt you. What else can I do to make you forgive me?"
"Stop talking," he blatantly replies, "we have a mission. If you really want to talk, save it. We'll be done soon enough."
Jungkook's a bit conflicted here. On one hand, Apollo's right—it's mission time. On the other, the demons aren't exactly quiet. They'll hear them coming a mile away due to their size and loud footsteps. They have a minute or two to talk about this.
Why does everything have to be so complicated all of a sudden?
The unlikely pair creep along the pathways in the sewer, being careful not to dip in the gross water. The last thing Jungkook needs is to ruin his expensive combat boots.
Although Jungkook hates the heavy silence between them, he embraces it. They make another turn and go still.
"Well... shit. Hey guys," Jungkook says, waving to the eight demons who are casually waiting there for them.
Within the blink of an eye, the combat breaks out. Jungkook's powers kick in and the swords fly. It becomes clear within moments that Apollo and Jungkook are outmatched.
Jungkook grits his teeth and kills one of the demons only for another to knock him on his ass, pinning him to the ground. Apollo's overrun after killing two, two others coming at him while three crowd Jungkook.
"Apollo, run! I'll hold them off!" Jungkook shouts.
Apollo glances over at the struggling half-breed, biting his lower lip. However, he doesn't get a chance to think since a demon swipes at him and scratches his cheek.
Jungkook manages to use his strength to grab his sword. As soon as he feels the hilt in his hand, he swings up and stabs his demon in the head, the thing fading to dust right on top of him.
Jungkook pants. "Run! You're injured, go to the others! Run!"
Apollo groans and reluctantly turns around, sprinting away. Now it's Jungkook versus four demons. Oh great, the class 2's are left. Wonderful. This is going splendidly.
The demons crowd around him from all angles, Jungkook looking at each one of them. At least Apollo's safe. Jungkook knows he's probably not getting out of this, but poor Apollo's injured. The last thing he needs is to die in a sewer; that'd hurt his pride. Jungkook doesn't have any of that, so he should be fine.
Regardless of his thoughts, he holds his sword tighter and glares. He's a half-breed—maybe even the half-breed. There's no way in Hell he's going down without a fucking fight.
Jungkook smirks, his horns glowing brighter now. It's crazy how he never used to have them until Y/N showed up. Now they come out all the time.
He dryly chuckles as the first demon pounces, the other three following in its footsteps. Jungkook does a simple duck and roll, the four colliding. In their distraction, Jungkook kills one, stabbing it right in the back. Unfortunately, he gets caught off-guard too.
A demon swipes and hits him in the stomach, Jungkook yelping in pain at the large, deep gash forming there. Blood pours out of his stomach, but he pays it no mind. He'll have time to collapse after he's done fighting.
Jungkook keeps a steady defensive stance as the remaining three stare him down. So he's bleeding out of his stomach and weak from the general action. He can do this though... right?
Two pounce at him at once, Jungkook almost yelping at the effort it takes to dodge. He injures one, but doesn't kill it yet.
Why can't this be easy? Isn't he supposed to be a half-breed?
Jungkook grits his teeth and ducks to dodge a pouncing demon. "Motherfuckers," Jungkook says in a grunt. "Bring it on!"
It's safe to say they do.
They claw and fight, Jungkook almost dancing with them. He practically spins away. Jungkook uses his sword to spray sewer water in the injured demon's eyes. When it stalls and cries, Jungkook lands another hit. It howls in pain and hisses at him.
The others attack at the same time, Jungkook stabbing the angered demon in the stomach, but he loses his sword in the process. Another pounces on him and knocks him away. His sword clatters to the ground too far away from him.
Knowing he probably can't reach his daggers, he uses a last resort: he punches the demon in the face. The demon snarls, Jungkook punching harder next time while the other one lingers around, watching the entrance.
Jungkook yells in pain, breaking his hand in the process of hurting the demon. It cries and backs away.
Okay, so a gash in his stomach and a broken hand. Nice. Nice going, Jeon.
Jungkook grabs a dagger with his useable hand and backs away. He gets in a defensive position and glares them down. They do the same, splitting up and creeping on both his left and right sides.
Shit, they're flanking him. There's no way he can take them both on with a broken hand, but he has to try. Unexpectedly, Jungkook throws a dagger into the left one's head. The demon howls and falls over, dead. The last one jumps at the death of his friend. Jungkook isn't fast enough to dodge.
He gets knocked back, his head hitting the back wall. A scream rips from Jungkook's throat, him falling on the ground, right on his broken hand. He pants, grabbing the broken hand and snapping it back into place.
Jungkook has two daggers left, so he uses them. He grabs another just as the demon charges him again.
"Come on, motherfucker! Give me all you got!" Jungkook shouts, running to meet the demon halfway.
Jungkook uses all his strength to jump and flip around. The demon almost hops in confusion, whipping to face Jungkook in time for him to throw the dagger, sinking it into its skull. It fades to dust.
Jungkook lets out a breath of relief. He did it. Maybe he really is the half-breed. Maybe he should have more faith in himself.
Jungkook grabs his daggers and sword off the ground, holstering them all while cradling his broken hand against his chest.
That hurt like a bitch. It'll take a few days to heal, but it's nothing that'll bother him too much. Thank the angel for Hunter healing powers. He'll be battle ready in three days, maybe less depending on his half-breed abilities. Hell, this may heal by tomorrow. Maybe he shouldn't be so nerv-
'ROAR!'
He yelps and turns in time to see a class 3 burst through the sewer wall. It lands on its four legs and huffs, snarls, and hisses at Jungkook. Its red eyes glare Jungkook down as it gets into a defensive position.
"Fuck," Jungkook mumbles.
He brings his sword back out and gulps. Well, shit. This is it. This is the end.
Jungkook grips his sword, preparing to attack while thinking of one person only. Y/N. His love. Yeah... love. He's pretty much in love with her. What the hell? Fuck it, why not. They could die on any mission they go on. Why hide the feelings at this point?
Jungkook accepts his fate, watching the creature storm forward. He charges forward, not expecting the creature to change course. It side steps and swipes Jungkook's legs with its claws. It only manages to scratch one of his calves, but it leaves a deep enough gash that Jungkook goes falling to the ground with a whimper of pain.
He croaks out what he hopes is a cry for help, but it doesn't matter. As soon as he gets on his back, the creature to roars again and starts jumping over to him.
It's about to land the final blow, Jungkook closing his eyes and accepting it.
"I love you, Y/N," he whispers as he holds his hand over his chest.
He winces, preparing for the final hit, but it never comes. Jungkook hears a whine, then it's followed by the feeling of dust settling on his skin. He gingerly opens his eyes in time to see Apollo standing there, panting. A dagger falls on Jungkook's chest, the monster that was about to kill him gone.
Apollo rushes over. "Are you hurt?"
"Badly," Jungkook says in a groan.
Apollo helps him up, Jungkook getting into a kneeling position and heaving.
Fucking hell, this pain is annoying. He doesn't even care that it'll be gone by tomorrow—it hurts like a bitch.
Jungkook gulps and stalls. "Why would you do that?" Why would you risk your life for me? All I've done is lie to you."
Apollo shakes his head, giving Jungkook's a hand a squeeze and helping him get to his feet.
"Because..." He pauses to meet Jungkook's eyes. "We're family."
