"Are you ready?"
You watch as Jungkook scratches the back of his neck, pretending the tips of his ears aren't turning pink. "Um... probably?" he answers with a gulp.
"Jungkook," you say in what you hope is a gentle tone. "I'm not going to judge you for anything." You trot up and place your hands on his shoulders. "We're meant to be, right? Then let's prove it. Be yourself around me. I want you to be comfortable, always. You deserve it." He gazes at you in awe, then, to your surprise, he kisses your forehead.
"Sorry, I get like this sometimes."
You shake him off. "Honestly, I'm surprised you didn't call this off after what happened earlier." Jungkook's smile falters, and you shrink inside yourself. "Shit, sorry. Bad timing?"
He makes an 'mm-mm' sound. "If anything, it might help to talk about it."
"Are you sure? You don't have to, you know."
"But maybe I want to," he says, holding out his hand. "Can we talk on the way?"
"Sure," you reply, slipping your hand into his and allowing him to take you outside. Together, you make it to his bike within only a minute. "So, where are we going?" you ask, keeping your voice low.
"Honestly, I was thinking dinner."
"I'm fine with that, I haven't been out to dinner in a while. Do we need our gear?"
He chuckles and slips onto his bike. "Just today, let's be humans."
Somehow, you manage to smile. "I don't think that's possible, but we can certainly try." Jungkook flashes you a bunny smile before taking off. The wind hits you as you tightly wrap your arms around his stomach, resting your head on his shoulder. Despite the chaos that's coming your way soon, this is pretty nice.
"Having fun yet?" Jungkook asks, but it comes out as more of a yell because of the fast speed of the bike.
"I don't know, can I lift up your shirt? I'll definitely have fun if you say yes."
He laughs. You barely hear it over the whipping wind. "Save that for later, darling. We have dinner first." Did he just... this bitch. He just called you darling, huh? Is he insane? Since when does he have that confidence? Eh whatever, who are you to complain?
"Gaining a bit of confidence, Kook? Hm?" you tease, but he seems unaffected.
"Careful, I'm the one driving."
"We have healing powers," you point out.
"Doesn't change that I'm driving, darling." The stress he puts on the word 'darling' makes your left eye twitch. So, Jeon Jungkook is a tease now, is he? That's interesting. You can totally see it, but you thought he'd be too nervous on the first date. Is your relationship going to be back and forths about who's dominant?
"Are we there yet?" you ask in a huff.
"Good things come to those who wait," he replies in a smooth, low tone.
Okay, as a superpowered demon Hunter lady, you're pretty aggressive and confident, but that tone, the way he said it? That made you swoon in a way you can't even describe. You gulp, and he senses it, snickering.
"Not so snarky now, are we, princess?" he asks, and your legs shake from the new nickname he gave you.
You squeeze him and decide against replying, looking at the trees passing by. You need to address the elephant in the room. "Want to talk about it?"
He sighs. "I should've told them. I should've told them right from the start that I'm a half-breed. I know there's nothing I can do about it now, but it doesn't change that I need to start being more honest. They're supposed to be my family, why couldn't I tell them?"
"Sometimes it's hard to tell even family," you say, "don't feel too bad about it. It's a huge secret that changes things. It's not easy to tell someone about that."
He shakes you off. "But still, they're supposed to be the ones I trust with my life. Why couldn't I trust them with this?"
"Because you were scared," you reply, hoping that he'll see the logic in your responses. Poor boy was scared to death that his friends and family would judge him for being different. It's a terrifying thing. People can say they'll accept you no matter what, but you'll never really know if what they're saying is true until you find out firsthand. That's the terrifying part.
He doesn't speak anymore, he only drives the bike. Since you don't want to press, you don't bother opening your mouth.
Soon enough, you make it to the dimly lit and small restaurant. The walls are a tan shade, the roof slanted with maroon shingles. The front double doors are wooden, inviting you in. It isn't overly fancy, but it's a step up from casual, that's for sure.
He pulls you inside, several people around but none paying attention to you. The chatter fills your eardrums along with soft, classical music. The aroma of freshly backed bread smacks your nostrils until they clog up, drowning in the smell. The entire place is neat. Tidy. It feels like you're walking into an upgraded version of Olive Garden. It doesn't help that the interior reminds you of the Italian chain. There's wine on display, soft carpets that dig into your shoes, an emphasis on vine and wooden decorations, and cute round tables meant for privacy.
Jungkook's hiding his mark as he normally does, a black glove hiding the emblem all Hunters have. You, on the other hand, don't care if people see. The good news is you don't have your gear, so there's that. Like Jungkook said, today is a day to be humans. Only humans.
Jungkook seems a little nervous, so you make the first move. You step forward and entwine your hand with his, giving him a soft smile. "You're gonna do great," you whisper.
Before he can answer, it's your turn in line, so he goes to the hostess stand and asks for a table for two. You watch him the whole time, staring at his side profile while he speaks in a soft but smooth manner. He may be fun and exciting, adventurous, bold... but this soft spoken part of him is one of your favorites. It's rare to see the gentle and laid back Jeon Jungkook, but it's beautiful.
After getting seated at a table with a white tablecloth and a candle as the centerpiece, Jungkook peeks up at you while chewing on his thin lower lip. Within only a few seconds, his eyes avert back to the menu in his hands.
"Kook..."
"I'm sorry I'm so awkward. I'm supposed to be this badass warrior, but I can't even talk to a girl. What kind of person does that make me?"
"An interesting one. It means you care," you say. "You don't have to be so nervous. Think of it this way: if I wasn't here for you, I wouldn't have said yes to a date." He begins to relax, even giving you a small smile. "Come on, Jeon. Let me see that cute smile." He full out laughs. "Even better."
"Dammit, you're the cute one here."
"It's been like two minutes and we're already calling each other cute. I have a feeling we have nothing to worry about."
Jungkook keeps his smile. "You think?"
"I know," you say.
He stares at you for a few moments, then slumps his posture. "I'm not worried either, but I'm sorry. About the half-breed thing, I mean."
"Sorry? Why?" you ask with furrowed brows.
"You offered to help and it's like I ignored you, I didn't really take your advice. We're like... dating now, so..."
"Jungkook," you start, "I'm here for the ups and downs. Whether it be something you can talk about or not, I'm here for it. And if you can't tell me yet, or even never, it's okay. You're your own person with your own thoughts and choices. I want you to know I respect that, and if this is too hard of a topic to talk about, we'll talk about happier things instead, okay?"
Jungkook stares at you in shock. "What?" you ask.
He softly smiles. "Are you serious? You'll really do all that for me?"
"In a heartbeat."
He seems like he wants to kiss you, but he holds back. "You're lucky we're in public, otherwise I'd be kissing the fuck out of you right now," he says in a sing-songy tone. Ha. You almost snort. You called it. Some men have these looks that say 'hey I want to make out with you all night long'. That's the look Jungkook is giving you right now.
"I'm into public," you reply, waggling your brows.
He goes still. "Wait, really? Cause confident Kook might come out at some point and you won't be ready for that. He'll-"
"Good even sir, madam. Can I get you started with something to drink?" a female waitress asks, stepping over. You grin while Jungkook pouts at the intrusion. Yep, he's still a baby. A baby in a man's body.
"A water, please," you say.
She nods and turns to Jungkook, who panics. "Milk." You almost snort. It's a fine-dining restaurant. "I-I meant water," he corrects. Okay, but he's pretty cute. He may be embarrassing himself, but at least he looks cute doing it.
The waitress, although a bit confused, acts like he didn't do that. "Alright, do you still need more time, or can I take your orders now?"
You shake her off. "We'll take a few more minutes if that's okay."
She dips her head. "Of course, take your time. I'll be back in two minutes."
As soon as she walks out of earshot, you turn to Jungkook. "I would ask if you're okay, but you're clearly not."
He huffs. "That obvious?"
You laugh, your eyes crinkling with amusement. "You're kind of funny, you know that?"
"Only kind of? Damn. Why not completely?" This boy, what the hell is up with him? He's a character, that's for damn sure.
"You know what Jeon?"
He leans forward and gives you a small, teasing smile. "What is it, princess?"
You almost sigh but manage to bite it back. He's trying his hardest to be flirty, isn't he? It's kind of working, but only kind of. It doesn't matter that you have an overwhelming urge to kiss him. What matters is you're resisting, which means you're still doing okay and his flirting hasn't completely taken over you yet. Regardless of your thoughts, you shake your head and part your lips to speak.
"This is gonna be an interesting relationship."

The stroll back to the bike has been filled with laughter and jokes. Jungkook thinks he's being smooth, but then again, who knows anymore. He's hoping and praying that she's having a good time.
"Okay, first thing's first: you're staying behind me when those stupid demons come for us, right?" he asks.
She snickers. "I'm sorry - me? I'm the one who's supposed to stay behind you? How the hell does that work?"
He chuckles and nudges her, glancing around for a few moments. "You know, it's a nice night."
"Yeah?"
Feeling a bit of courage, he reaches out and holds her hand, her squeezing him. "Yeah, I think so," he whispers. His bike isn't too much further, the clouds in the sky signaling that it'll probably rain soon. Jungkook keeps his eyes on the sky with a small smile on his face.
"When I was a kid, I used to love the night sky," he mumbles. "I don't know why. I always did."
She gazes at him and returns his soft smile. "Is it because there's so much out there? Unlimited possibilities?"
"I don't think I'm going space adventuring anytime soon, but maybe that's it."
"Never know, maybe you'll be the first man on Mars," she says with an eyebrow wave. He keeps his smile while shaking his head. They keep walking in silence for a few more moments. Then, Jungkook sighs and stops them.
Y/N peers at him in concern. His eyes meet hers, and it's like the world stops. The way she's looking at him with so much depth behind her beautiful eyes? It makes his heart beat in a way he can't describe. It doesn't help that her hand is giving his a gentle massage.
You know what? Fuck it.
Without giving himself a chance to second guess his decision, he leans down and kisses her. Her shock shows in the way she jumps a bit, the entire world seeming to fall away for a few moments. Everything feels hazy, everything. Jungkook starts to regret his decision, thinking that he's about to get rejected.
Then, she kisses back.
