“You see, Danny,” Warren sneered, taking small steps toward me. Almost as if saying my name was like a burn to his tongue, he spat it out. My hands trembled as he walked closer until he was mere feet away from me. However, it wasn’t from being scared of him, it was from the shock of the realization that he played a part in all this mayhem. “You should be really careful with who you trust. So, take this as a learning experience.”

I felt bile rise in my throat as I glared at him. I could feel my eyes glowing, indicating the first signs that my wolf wanted to come out. My skin began to ripple, the familiar white fur sprouting out in patches on my arms. My gums began to itch as my canines appeared and retracted repeatedly. My fingers began to curl as my nails turned sharp. I heard the low growl of my wolf, wanting to come out. However, I held my wolf in, telling her soothing words inwardly.

My father and Warren just chuckled, sending chills up my spine at how sinister it sounded. “Well, would you look at that? She can barely control herself,” My dad snickered.

“I thought Healers were strong, huh, Danny?” Warren said, almost angrily. He obviously hated my kind – the ones who were able to heal and only wanted to help the werewolves.

“She’ll be stronger than you’ll ever be,” I heard my mom defend. She struggled in her chains, trying to break them loose. She gritted her teeth as wolfs bane burned her flesh.

“Shut up, you weak imbecile!” My father shouted, coming up close to her and slapping her hard across the face. My mother growled, baring her canines.

My heart dropped and clenched as a few tears escaped my eyes. I was too shocked to react. This couldn’t have been the same father who tucked me in at night and kissed my forehead. The same father who taught Darren how to play baseball. The same father who would kiss his wife and murmur words of affection to her as he came home.

“You touch her again and I swear I will slap you harder than you ever slapped her,” I threatened, wiping my tears away angrily.

“Ouch, your words hurt me,” He said sarcastically. “Is that anyway to speak to your dad?”

“You are no father of mine, understand?” I said, pointing a finger at his chest and feeling my wolf wanting to come out again. For a split second, I saw the hurt flash in his green eyes. However, I let it slide. He deserved it after all the crap he put me through. “What kind of father puts his daughter in danger? What kind of father kicks his daughter because he found some tramp? What kind of father teaches his son the proper way to treat a woman when he can’t even do it himself? You’re not a bastard.”

I made my way in front of my mom, standing in front of her protectively. “A lady?” My father snorted. “She’s an animal and because of her, my kids are too.”

I bared my teeth, already fed up. I took a fighting stance, trying to ignore the constant growl of my wolf wanting to jump out of the tight skin encasing her. That’s when my father flinched back a little, and Warren took his place protectively.

Now, it was my turn to chuckle. “Oh, I forgot, he’s human. Weak and powerless,” I said confidently. “So, tell me, George. Why come here as an easy target? Wouldn’t you think I would come for you right now?”

“You wouldn’t dare touch a single hair on my head, Daniella,” my father’s voice never quavered. “That’s just in your nature and if you did dare to, Warren will not hesitate to kill you. Is that right, son?” He patted Warren’s shoulder fatherly as Warren nodded.

“So, now you’re calling him son? Better watch out Warren, before he abandons you too.” This statement caused him to tremble. He snapped at me with his now bared canines. I rolled my eyes. Somehow, I didn’t feel so scared anymore. It’s as if there was a calming presence around. “Can I ask one question for both of you? Why?”

They seemed to know what exactly I was asking and smirked.

“Easy. I hate you creatures. You’re the creatures who killed my brother, remember?” George stated. “When I married your mother, she knew all about it, but hid her identity for a long time. That was until Darren changed for the first time. Then, I got into a fight with the bitch. She got angry and turned before my eyes. That was the real reason for the divorce. I didn’t want to be married to an animal.”

“So, why not come after us then? Why not kill us?” I said, trying to swallow down the information that angered and saddened me.

“It wasn’t the right time. That was until I found Warren.” Again, he patted his shoulder. This time, it was for Warren to continue.

All the while, Warren glared at me until he unclenched his fists and crossed it over his chest. “It happened two years ago when my mom and dad attempted to exterminate a pack they hated for good. They were doing it for the sake of the Crescent Pack. However, they were too weak. That same day, I lost both my parents. And you know how they died, Danny?” Warren shouted in my face, his whole body trembling. For a brief second, I felt his pain. He lost both his parents. I couldn’t imagine life if my mom died. It was a terrifying thought. He continued, “One word. Healers. The fucking Healers killed them, leaving me alone and broken. I was sixteen, for Christ’s sake. I had no parents – I was lost.

To make things worse, Alpha Weston did nothing about it. All he did was tell me to calm down and that he would find a way to abolish Healers for good, but ‘going for the kill wasn’t smart enough. We’d only get ourselves killed. They’re too strong. We need to think about this first,’” He said, quoting Weston’s words. Then he looked away angrily. “That was my last straw with him. For a couple of months, I was rebellious towards him, always demanding for what he came up with for revenge. As always, I’d coward down. Although I was Beta, he was Alpha.

“I was angry. I was depressed. I was lonely. That was until I turned seventeen and she walked in on our lives. She came from a totally different pack which was just recently exterminated. When we locked eyes, I knew the connection. She was my mate, but she rejected me,” He said this with pain clear in his voice. I cringed, knowing how it felt to realize who your mate was. Nevertheless, feeling rejected was the part I know I’ll never go through.

“Who’s your mate?” I asked quietly, not being able to hold my curiosity any further.

“Why don’t you ask the bitch chained to the wall right now?” Warren spat, his eyes beginning to water. He looked away, not wanting to meet the eyes of the girl chained up to my right.

My mouth flew open. “Stacy?”

I could see the tears spilling out of her eyes unto her cheek. “You know, Warren, I loved you, I really did. But, I never knew you’d physically harm me. Who does that to their mate?” She said, gesturing to her body. All the while, Warren never met her eyes. However, I could sense his weakness. “All I did was refuse the idea of killing Alpha Weston, Warren. That’s all I did. You completely went mad. You said I was weak, but forgive me for showing respect to someone who has welcomed me to their pack. I left you and two months after on your eighteenth birthday, I came over to wish you a happy birthday, only to see you with George. I knew something was wrong and I was right. You were planning to kill Alpha Weston so you could step up in his spot,” she said, her sapphire eyes blazing with anger. I could see her wolf wanting to come out, but quickly stayed safe in the confinement of her skin when she smelt wolfs bane. “Then you kidnapped me, afraid I was going to tell someone and punished me for it.”

“Shut up, you animal,” George snapped, gesturing to Warren to let him finish.

Warren cleared his throat before saying, “I learned how to shut down all my feelings, Danny. That’s worst than feeling nothing at all, but better than feeling the pain. Along with that, I learned how to shut down the connection to my pack. And because of that, I had the strength to kill the Alpha and the Healers. This is all thanks to George of course. He found me and took me in. I owe him my respect.”

I felt my blood run ice cold. Weston dead? I couldn’t even imagine it. Just the thought of it made my wolf howl in agony and my heart clench tight. A snarl rippled in my chest.

George chuckled and said, “We forgot, son, that it’s the bitch’s mate.” Did my father just call me a bitch?

“What makes you think George isn’t going to kill you after he kills all of us?” I snarled at Warren for being so stupid. “I mean, you are part of what he hates most of all.”

I saw nervousness flash in George’s eyes before Warren turned to look back at him. He smirked at me, as if I was the stupid one. “He wouldn’t. I’m his son.”

“Enough with the chit chat,” George sighed, obviously irritated. “She’s just trying to buy some time to figure out a plan. Whip her mom and Blondie. Afterwards, kill Daniella.” He started to walk away, back into the darkness.

“No,” my mom cried. “No. Danny, run!”

Just as Warren picked up the whip that had fallen onto the ground, I snapped. “Don’t you dare touch any of them.” He smirked again, picking up the whip and just as he was about to whip my mom, I grabbed my gun.

BANG!

The bullet hit his shoulder. I watched as he fell to the ground, the blood seeping in between his fingers. Silver bullet and wolfs bane. They weren’t the only ones with weapons.  That should keep him down for a long time. I put the gun back in my waistband.

I turned to my mother to figure out a way to escape, when a hand clamped my mouth shut and a blade was put at my throat. I could smell the wolfs bane as it slightly burned my throat.

“That was very bad of you, Daniella,” George seethed.

“What makes you think I can’t take you here right now? You’re just a human,” I snapped back.

“Oh, Danny, Danny, Danny. You really are a poor wolf. You can’t see the hunters that are hidden in the dark?” I adjusted my eyesight and sure enough, I could see them all, clutching rifles and knives. Wow, this wolfs bane really does mess with wolves.

All of a sudden, heavy footsteps fell into the room. Low growls filled the air. Soon, my nostrils sniffed the air and the calm presence that wrapped around me earlier made sense. Weston was here. And they were going to kill him. I just knew it.

Not only was Weston here, but everyone else.

The Crescent and Stone Pack, including my brother stood before me. They snarled and growled, baring their canines. All of their eyes dilated into a dark black.

“Isn’t this a site?” George chuckled, tightening his hold on me. “The Crescent and Stone Pack actually standing together. You know, Warren told me so much about you people. Or shall I say, animals. Let me just say, good luck. You just fell into my trap.”

Just as he pressed the blade into my skin and Weston’s growl ripped in the air, one of the hunters shot a bullet towards Jet, who leaned back due to his fast reflexes. That was all it took for the war to start.

They shifted, clothes ripping and falling to the damp grown. Snarls rippled in the air and a howl from both Jarred and Weston, telling them to start the fight. I watched as two wolves threw two hunters to the wall, watching them fall to the ground in a heap.

“You’re coming with me,” George huffed, pulling my struggling body along. When he pressed the blade deeper, I whimpered. Until, a platinum colored wolf swept in from the side, and nudged George out of the way. It’s sapphire eyes met mine before she nodded at the fighting crowd.

“Shift,” Stacy stated simply through the mind link before helping Jade tear the chains off of my mother.

I shifted, my white fur taking over my whole body. I began running towards a hunter with graying hair as it focused it’s gun at Weston. I jumped over the crates, snapping at his side hard enough so he fell to the ground and won’t get back up again.

“Thanks Ells,” I heard Weston say in my mind.

“Why are you here and how did you find me?” I said, growling as I pushed a hunter off Alex’s back and threw the spear a hunter was about throw at Dustin. “I specifically told you not to come.”

“I’m your mate and the mark your wearing helped me find you. So shut up because I couldn’t live with myself if you were buried underground,” he grunted as a blade grazed his skin. He snapped at the hunter before nipping at its shoulder.

That’s how it went for about five minutes – ten wolves against a hundred hunters. About twenty were dead, majority unconscious, and the left fighting for what they believed was right. The wolves had minor injuries and thankfully, no bullets were shot at anyone.

That was until the shot rang through the air and a feminine wolf cried out in pain.

Jade.

I threw the hunter off me as I watched her wolf fall to the ground before weakly getting up. She snapped the last chain off my mom before throwing an oncoming hunter out of the way. Weston growled angrily and killed the hunter who had shot his sister.

Before my mom could change into her wolf form, George appeared at of nowhere, tackling my mom to the ground with him on top. I started running towards her when George picked up his dagger ready to plunge it into my mother’s heart when a searing pain took over in my shoulder.

With teary eyes, I saw Darren fly over my mom and threw George to a nearby wall, hearing a sickening crack sound. However, I squeezed my eyes shut and tried to run when the searing pain in my shoulder got worst.

Someone stabbed me.

I heard Jarred, Weston, and Darren growl at the same time before they all came running to me to help. I felt as two hunters tried to push me into a crated box. Another one came and then another. I stopped struggling as another piercing sound struck the air and watched horridly as Darren fell to the ground with a whimper.

Then, I snapped at the hunter that was in front and bit into his leg, liking the sound of his cry. I threw him off. Another one was thrown off of me as I shook my body angrily. The other one was pinned down by Weston and just as he was about to shoot him in between the head, Weston bit into his neck, killing him.

I felt the spear on my shoulder get pulled out immediately before it plunged into Jarred’s side. I turned my head to the hunter, hearing Jarred’s howl and immediately killed him with my teeth. I felt the warm blood stick to my white fur and shook. My first kill.

I wasn’t in shock long before I heard another shot and Eli’s cry of pain. Abigail and Jet killed that hunter immediately. As one of the remaining hunters went to kill Abigail, Stacy stopped in with Charles to finish him off.

The remaining hunter’s ran away seeing as they were weak and outnumbered in strength. Everyone shifted into their human forms, groaning in pain as they did so. I felt the pain in my shoulder and squeezed my eyes shut as I left my hand heal the wound.

Weston came over to me, pulling a big shirt over my head to cover my body. He put his arm around my waist and pulled me towards the group. Everyone was helping each other fix their wounds. Everyone was weak – those who were infected by wolfs bane were pale. Each one of us were covered in dirt and blood.

“When we get back, Danny will heal all of you. As you can see, she’s a Healer,” Weston said to the group. “I refuse any one of you to kill her or to touch her, understand?”

“Why would we?” Eli said, struggling to the take the bullet out from his shoulder. “Sure, we hate Healers, but Danny proved us wrong. I’m pretty sure we’ll all accept the Healers. We need them, Wes.”

The whole group nodded and turned to my mom whose sobs grew louder. “I’m so sorry, baby,” she said to Darren, trying to pull out the bullet on his leg. He grunted in pain and stopped her fumbling hands.

“We’ll have to do clean our wounds at home, where it’s less likely to infect us some more,” Darren said. “But, in the mean time, I’m sorry, Danny.”

“For what?” I questioned. “I should be the one sorry. I led you guys here. I was the one who – “

Darren raised his hands up to stop me. “No, Danny, not for that,” his eyes softened and a tear trailed down his cheek. “Dad’s dead.”
