Dracos pov
" it's cold." Y/n whined as she curled up. I reduced above me in the train and pulled a sweatshirt from my suitcase.
"Here. Warm up."
She put it on and it was so huge on her it almost swallowed her.
We had been on the train for about 8 hours now. While she was playing I'd snatched some cash from my parents which would last us a long time. I was planning on getting a job and raising her myself. Every time I doubted myself I thought of what I went through and knew I'd want someone to risk everything for me.
I looked over at her as her eyes crossed to her nose.
I chuckled a little bit and shook my head.
"You're such a dork y/n." I laughed.
"Hey! You're the dork!" She sassed back with a giggle.
She stood up on the seat and crawled over to my lap. She started to tickle me and I decided to fight back.
"Hey hey! No fair! Get your little fingers off of me!" I played with her.
She giggled that toddler laugh and it rang through the cart.
"Ah! No! Dwaco that tickles!" She squealed.
"Draco!" A laugh rang as the hallways echoed.
It had been about 10 years. I was now working at a shop down the street from our house and y/n was going into high school.
"Come here!" I scared her as I grabbed her around the waist.
Y/n had given up and went limp in my arms.
"Hey! You're heavy!" I huffed as I carried all her weight. She laughed and stood up.
"So are you coming to meet the teacher tonight?"
"That's tonight?!" I asked shocked.
"Yes, I've been saying it for the past week! Draco you can't miss it!"
"I won't."
"Mr Malfoy! Nice to meet you." The teacher cheered as he shook hands with me.
"Please, call me Draco! I'm not that old yet! Besides, that's my fathers name."
"Right. So I would just like to talk to you about your daughters work."
"Oh no, she's not my daughter. She's my cousin."
"Yeah, it's kinda a long story." Y/n nervously laughed.
"Cousin? What about your parents?"
"I don't know my dad and my mom gave me up. My aunt and uncle, his parents, didn't want me. Draco was graduated by the time he took me in. He has full custody of me."
I felt my heart twinge when I heard her tell the story I lied to her about. It was the same story I told her whenever she questioned why I was here instead of her parents.
"Oh. Wow. I'm so sorry about that." The teacher looked astonished.
"It's alright. I barely even knew any of them. Draco's really the only one I remember."
"That's very brave draco. For taking care of her. You had to be what, 18, when you started?"
"Yes, I was turning 19 that year."
"Wow. Well, if that's any influence to her work it's not surprising. She is doing amazing. She's in the top 5 of her class. She does all of her work right away and helps anyone who needs it. Now I know who she gets the initiative from."
I smiled when I felt proud of the comments that were made.
"That's great. Good job, lovely." I rubbed her back and she smiled at all the compliments.
"I mean I really don't have anything else to say, just all good things and you need to continue to raise her because you're doing something right." The teacher gave a hearty chuckle
"Thank you. Will do." I stood up and shook the teachers hand and headed out of the classroom with her by my side.
"Draco..." she started softly.
"Yeah?" I asked as I realized she wouldn't continue until I responded.
"Why didn't my parents want me?" She asked just as quiet as when she called my name.
I looked up to the sky and sighed heavily.
"Because they were bad people, and they hung around bad people. Did bad things. And your mom was kind of against it. Although theirs one person she'd do anything for. And she would have hurt you. She didn't want you that bad. So I took you."
"You never told me that much."
"I know. And there's still a lot more to tell, and I will tell it to you all in good time but I need you to promise that you'll always trust me because I just want you to be happy."
"I know." She nodded as she hugged me.
I wrapped my arms around her and my eyes flashed an image of my past.
She jumped into my arms and smiled.
"Hi y/n." I groaned slightly
"You don't seem vewy happy to see me. Are you okay?" She asked tilting her head, making her pig tails fall to the side.
"I love you so much." I squeezed her tight.
"Can't... can't breathe!" I let her go and she smiled at me "I love you too."
A lot of me regrets not telling her I loved her when she was little and first without her mom. I was too stubborn and too closed off for that. I always did love her. Every time she came over or when I picked her up from daycare. I would always want to kiss her all over her little face and tell her I loved her but I never did.
Now I give her presents or hugs, tell her she's doing great and that I love her.
Before she was born I was so sure that I'd never ever want to have anything to do with her. Now I don't know what I'd do without her. She's helped me grow and learn in so many ways. And I know id do anything to keep her smiling.
She grabbed my arm lightly and pulled me along to the car.
"Come on we should go get ice cream."
"You have money?" I ask
"No but you're technically my guardian and you're supposed to supply me with food."
"Yeah essential food."
"This is most definitely essential." She nodded her head sassily.
I rolled my eyes and turned on the car.
"Fine, but only because you're doing so well in school."
