Penguin-free Meal #1 - An Unfortunate Hallows Day

Unfortunately for Amaya, her week had not been pleasant.

Aside from the fact that her patience was worn horribly thin, Koro-sensei with his incessant insanity, and the growing mountain of housework that didn't appear to yield at all, Amaya's past week was only bound to wear on her patience even further.

The couch was now missing, Samuel was now upset that his favorite piece of furniture in the house was gone without warning, and she didn't have the patience to even try and figure out what had happened to it.

Undoubtedly, Karma had decided to take her angered declaration rather literal. He probably broke it to pieces while she wasn't around and probably burned it while he was at it. Now, all she had to deal with was the likely onslaught of complaints that now they needed a new couch.

Of course, Amaya had no intention whatsoever of humoring any demands that Karma may have for it, in the future.

It was an exhausting Tuesday morning as Amaya trudged up the trail leading up to the Classroom up the mountain, and to be perfectly honest, Amaya wanted nothing more than to hide away in the attic and just read a damned book in peace. Though she had to admit, walking up the mountain witnessing the warm, orange and brown leaves falling to the ground as she walked was a little relaxing.

She scarcely recalled what day of the month it was – In reality, she was too mentally drained to really care.

'Oi! Maya-chan!' Came the sounds of Maehara's voice as Amaya finally reached the clearing the Satellite campus resided within, drawing a weary scowl across her face as she looked towards the approaching form up ahead of her. 'About time you got here! We were all thinking you were going to skip, today!'

The resident Playboy of Class 3-E was running over with a mischievous grin, and a ... Pumpkin?

'Whats with the damned pumpkin?' Amaya stated bluntly as a scowl gradually began to appear across her face.

'You're artistic, right?' Maehara responded cheekily.

'I guess when it comes to smearing assholes into the concrete, I can be.' Amaya hedged.

'That doesn't count.'

'Then no, I have no artistic talent in any shape or form.'

'Well that's fine.' Maehara dismissed, none the least deterred from his mission with the stupid, brightly orange pumpkin. 'You can still help me chop it up!'

'What? Is Home-ec first, today?' Amaya sighed dejectedly as she tried to step around Maehara to continue towards the classroom. 'You know cooking artistry and me don't mix.'

'Oh! So close!' Maehara chuckled as he followed along after her. 'Koro-sensei did say we have impromptu Home-ec today, but we're not cooking this! We're carving it!'

'That's such a terrible waste of food.' Amaya huffed.

After failing to get his desired response from Amaya, the playboy just chuckled as he stepped in front of Amaya to bring her to a stop.

'Say, Maya-chan, you do know what today is, don't you?' Maehara snickered as Amaya stared blankly.

'Sure, it's some Tuesday in October.'

'Not just some Tuesday in October, Maya-chan.' He corrected as he lifted the pumpkin to practically smoosh it into her face. 'It's October 31st~ Halloween.'

All Amaya could really do was let out a breath as she committed that to memory.

'I guess I really should have stayed home.' Amaya sighed in exasperation.

With nothing more than an amused chuckle, Maehara practically dragged an unwilling Amaya up to the classroom, where a rather disturbing chain of events were underway within the rickety old building.

The interior of the classroom was almost filled completely with the same orange pumpkins Maehara had with him, by the truckload it appeared. There were so many that there was little room to walk between desks stacked with more pumpkins, and the blackboard was completely obscured by the mountain of orange.

The bulk of the class were talking amongst themselves amicably as Maehara dragged Amaya inside, while others like Sugaya and Hara were already in the midst of hollowing out a pumpkin between them.

Koro-sensei's presence in the classroom was overshadowed for the most part in the giant wall of pumpkins that took up the front of the classroom – His face even matched the pumpkins in shade and shape, with the only difference being that unnatural grin that was iconic for him.

'What the hell is all of this even here for?' Amaya couldn't help but ask as she glanced around the classroom wearily. 'And don't give me that "it's Halloween" bullshit.'

'So tetchy, Amay~' Came Karma's rather amused hum in response as he wandered over from where he'd been standing with Nagisa and Kayano towards the front of the classroom. 'Don't tell me you hate Halloween now.'

'When you're involved?' She responded with a worsening scowl as she looked at him. 'Yes, yes I do.'

'Well that's harsh.' Maehara chuckled wryly.

'Are you still holding that against me, Amay?' Karma questioned as he wandered over to his desk. 'It was just a little joke, you really need to lighten up.'

Agitated, Amaya fixed him with a worsening glare.

'Truth be told, I don't care all that much about you vandalizing the Apartment with rubber snakes and bags of dead leaves. It just pisses me off.' Amaya responded with her glare darkening with every word. 'What I don't appreciate is everything else that comes with it.'

'And that would be?'

'Oh let me see! One time you decided to drench the whole interior of the fridge in meat and honey to attract the ants just for Halloween, and I was stuck with an infestation of rats instead for a whole month. Not to mention that year I had to buy a new fridge. Or how about that bad habit of yours, stuffing live spiders in random jars and containers for me to find every year!' Amaya practically seethed, much to Maehara's shock. 'That's not including all the times I've had to suffer with you throwing raw eggs at me while I was out grocery shopping three years in a row! One year you had the audacity to throw rotten eggs at me just to mix it up a bit! Do I have to continue?'

'Whoa...' A nearby Sugino sounded in disbelief. 'I think I'd hate Halloween, too, after that.'

'Would I really do all that, Amay?' Karma responded easily as he cast her a rather innocent smile.

And all Amaya did was fix him with an even more volatile glare.

'Okay, I think we get the point, Amaya-chan~' Nakamura intervened with a chuckle dancing obviously in her tone as she wandered over to set a pumpkin on Amaya's desk. 'Karma-kun's a bully, and you don't want to be anywhere near him today.'

'I don't want to be around anyone today.' Amaya responded sourly.

Nagisa at the front of the classroom let out a wry chuckle as he watched.

'Fair enough, but before you just write everything off, we should really do something fun that doesn't involve Karma-kun.'

'No.' Amaya responded within a heartbeat.

'Huh? But I haven't even--'

'Not happening.' Amaya reaffirmed, much to Nakamura's disbelief.

'You should give up, Nakamura-san.' Karma snickered as he watched the exchange. 'Amay might as well be called the Grinch of Halloween.'

'And I think we all know who's fault that is...' Maehara muttered as he decided to wander back to the front of the classroom.

'Well this will make for a wonderful lesson!' Came Koro-sensei's voice all of a sudden, cutting through the building argument with little effort.

Oh great...

Koro-sensei, who had been mostly silent as he and most of the class watched the dispute building, decided to finally speak up and make his presence known. Walking around with a pumpkin head instead of his sulphur-yellow cranium, he shovelled aside the pumpkins and lifted a tentacle to begin writing on the board.

'Since there are some who do not see the wonders of this fine festive eve, not just Amaya-san herself, we should do something to rectify this.' Koro-sensei spoke as he wrote in a rather obvious style just for Halloween. 'After class has finished for the day, we will participate in a few tasks for the evening befitting the Halloween Spirit! I will require two helpers! Hazama-san and Isogai-kun, I believe would be perfect for overseeing this.'

Demonic Inspiration and the Voice of Reason respectively, huh?

Amaya could only let out a weary breath as she regretted not staying home yet again.

'Everyone! Tonight we will be having a Test of Courage!' Koro-sensei announced as he turned to face the class. 'I trust you all will be ready for some spooky fun!'

As the atmosphere in the class became even more in tune with the Halloween event, all Amaya could honestly do was bury her face in her hands.
