Dr. Eggman: Long, long ago, transcending history and the world, an enormous sword was forged, designed to be the deadliest weapon on the battlefield.

Bowser: t was called Soul Edge and it was a beast! Gigantic, powerful... sexy.

Dr. Eggman: At a daunting six feet one inch in length, no ordinary soldier could wield it... but those who could proved unstoppable.

Bowser: It left no survivors in its wake, think of it as a volcano that wipes everyone out.

Dr. Eggman: However, a great evil dwelled within the sword. After claiming victory upon victory and being bathed in the blood and hatred of countless foes, a fire was born inside of Soul Edge.

Bowser: It's a literal demon made of fire.

Dr. Eggman: The demon Inferno had one purpose: to infect the world with evil and chaos, but in order to do this, he needed a warrior capable of wielding the true power of Soul Edge. He planned to possess this warrior and transform them into the azure-clad knight of darkness, Nightmare.

Bowser: Yo Eggman, I get villains are trying to be scary and all but what kind of a name is Nightmare? Like if you wanna name that strikes fear into the hearts you have to have a cool name.

Dr. Eggman: Names aside, before he was Nightmare he was Siegfried Schtauffen. Born in Germany, he is the son of Margaret and Frederick, the latter of which trained him to be a swordsman.

Bowser: Frederick was a hero among the peasantry, and led a rebellion against the Holy Roman Empire. Unfortunately, Siegfried did not strike out on his own in the same honorable fashion.

Dr. Eggman: Siegfried got tangled with a group of teenage bandits called the Schwarzwind. In a heist gone wrong, the Schwarzwind attempted to mug some fleeing crusaders, deeming them cowards for retreating.

Bowser: Only problem is, those retreating crusaders were just too tired to continue fighting, and so they died exhausting themselves in protection. But that's not all that happened, Siegfried unknowingly decapitated Frederick, who was among the crusaders.

Dr. Eggman: Siegfriend went insane with grief at what he'd done. And when he chanced upon Ostrheinsburg Castle, he grabbed the cursed sword Soul Edge, and from that moment he became known by one name and one name only: Nightmare. As Nightmare, he gained several new abilities and a massive strength bonus. He can now hold and swing the gargantuan 6'1" Soul Edge with one arm like it's nothing and can activate a soul wave to make him even stronger and activate more of his powers.

Bowser: On the other hand, literally, his right hand became a deformed 3 fingered monstrosity that wouldn't be out of place on a Dark Souls boss. But it doesn't appear to hinder his combat skills in any way so, if it's good enough for him I guess.

Dr. Eggman: Speaking of boss I just got a call from Wily and Ganondorf.

Bowser: For real?

Dr. Eggman: Yeah the operation is a go.

Bowser: Alright! Let's do this thing!

Dr. Eggman: While Bowser and I join Wily and Nightmare's opponent Ganondorf to conquer our worlds come back next time for the full episode.
