Chapter 27

After Finn dragged me back to his room I had accepted that he was going to punish me physically. And it would be a lot worse than any other time he had hit me. I was bracing myself for the first blow but a very distressed woman ran in frantically telling Finn something was happening. I listened to what she was saying with a huge smile on my face as she told Finn how the Atlantic Kingdom had been sneaking in underground.

"They're what?!" He shouted as one of the big scary Zambezis ran in.

"Boss, should I take your mate to the safe room?"

"Yes, go." He said waving a hand towards me.

The scary merman walked towards me and lifted me up by my arm. I didn't protest but let him drag me from the room. He made me wear a blindfold and led me down dark corridors where I could hear running water and the floor was slightly damp below my bare feet. We stopped abruptly and the man who had a strong grip on my upper arm said something in a different language I had been hearing a lot lately and I heard a door open. The blindfold was taken off me and I was led into a room that was dimly lit. A few chairs were scattered about and a cupboard at the back but other than that, there was nothing else in the room.

My stomach was hurting and my head my spinning. He pushed me down into a cold chair and tied my hands and feet to it.

"They will find me." I said confidently not showing I was scared. "They're stronger than you are."

My head snapped to the side and pain exploded through my cheek. He hit me again, catching my bottom lip with his fist splitting it open.

"You shouldn't have opened that box, human. Then you wouldn't be here right now. You'd still be on land." He sneered.

I was breathing heavily and trying not to cry. My emotions were a bit out of control with me being pregnant and I had constant mood swings which are something Finn did not like.

"Why are you doing this?"

He laughed. "There is a lot you don't know about us. We have our reasons."

"Why did you take me?" I asked trying to free my wrists from the rope. "What's the point?"

"Well, years ago when the Zambezis were only a small group one of our members whose name was Hali met the future King from the Atlantic Ocean and discovered they were mates. They met in secret until one day the Prince's Father found them together and the Prince rejected Hali in front of everyone. She was a Zambezi and having an outcast like that, tinting the blood line, was not accepted. After that we were hated and eventually Hali was killed through no fault of her own. Her parents were the outcasts and not Hali. We were forced to hide and deal in the black market just to feed everyone. We started stealing from Pods of Merpeople to gain more money as our group grew and grew. Then one day our hunters came across King Seaton and his two sons that were travelling to another Kingdom. They attacked, knowing they would have their element on them and if we got our hands on it, the Kingdom would be bowing down to us."

"B-But that was years ago. What that Prince did wasn't right but I don't see why you kidnapped me!" I cried.

"This is where you come in. Once both Princes managed to escape from us they sheltered near the shore and they both met their mates. We tracked them down and attacked Leomaris hoping Caspian had left the crystal with him whilst he visited you. He didn't so we had to try other methods. We sent people looking for you undercover trying to track you down as well. However, when you opened that box and touched the crystal, you sent out a signal to every Kingdom, letting them know Prince Caspian had found his mate. Some people in our group had been telling stories that somehow the crystal's powers could be transferred to you, so we took you, expecting you to show us something but turns out we were wrong. But Boss took a liking to you so took you as his mate." He finished, staring me dead in the eye.

"Well you're wrong. I just want to go back to Caspian and if you let me I'll make him help you." I pleaded.

"We're not weak. We don't want your help." He growled.

"I-I'm not saying that." I stuttered as he took a step forward.

"Look at you. Pathetic, weak human," He snarled circling me. "A few hits and you'll be dead... actually, both of you." He whispered the last part and putting a hand on my stomach.

"W-What?" I croaked lifting my head to look at him.

"I can hear that thing inside you. I can hear its heartbeat."

I stayed quiet and didn't look at him. My palms were already boiling and if he even touched me again I was letting it out. I had taken enough shit from these warriors and I think it's time I fought back. I concentrated on traveling all the energy around my body spreading it out to my arms and centred the most of it in my chest.

The door opened startling me as two more guards walked in. They said a few words to the merman who brought me here in a different language and he looked frustrated. He dismissed them with a wave of his hand growling under his breath.

"You better keep your mouth shut, kid." He warned pointing a finger at me.

I watched him closely as he paced the dirt floor. Three knocks on the door before Marilla and Kailani walked in! The two guards from before closed the heavy door and stood in front of it. Marilla turned to me and smirked.

"Hi Jonah. How are you?" She purred gracefully sinking into a chair. "How's Caspian?"

I purposely ignored her and didn't pay attention to Kailani pretending I didn't know her. I was so excited that I might be getting out of here and able to see Caspian but I tried not to show it on the outside. Kailani had told me to wait for something and this was it! I would be seeing Caspian soon and I had put on a bit of weight since he last saw me but that was good as I knew the baby was developing well. I just wanted to get back to him and start our family.

"I asked you a question. How is Caspian?" She gritted out.

"Why are you here when you could have been happy at the Kingdom?" I finally replied. "Why would you choose this life?"

"Oh Jonah," She laughed. "Still so naïve. I found my mate here. We had been meeting in secret but when they told me their plans to take you two it was the perfect opportunity to get out. I was an insider for them and being so close to the top made it much easier to deliver information."

"But you saved us from them once before." I exclaimed.

"Ha! That was staged, an idea to get your trust and location. It worked well."

Stay calm Prince, something's about to happen.

Suddenly Theo gasped and bent over in pain clutching his shoulder. Marilla covered her mouth and stepped back looking scared. My eyes darted around the room to rest on Kailani who gave me a slight nod.

Theo straightened up and locked eyes with me but his were a burning red.

"She's gone." He growled lowly, slowly walking towards me. "It's your entire fault she's gone." He said again circling me like a predator would its trapped prey.

"Theo, step back from him." Kailani said but all she got was a snarl.

"My wife is DEAD!" He roared pinning me to the floor.

My instincts took over and I snapped and let all the energy out of me pushing the warrior off me and sending him flying into the wall. The two guards ran forward but they were pushed back as the bright light I was projecting killed them instantly.

I must have blacked out as when I opened my eyes I was being carried by Kailani and Mako! I remembered Mako as he was one of the warriors who had helped us at the healing cave.

"Kailani?" I said blinking my eyes and clearing away the blurriness.

"Prince! You're okay," She reassured me. "We're going to see Caspian now, he knows we have you."

"We are?!"

"Yes but we have to be quiet. You lost a lot of energy back there and you won't be able to walk."

"Okay." I smiled as I could sense Caspian was close. "Is he coming for me?"

"He is." She smiled.

I tried to visualize him in my head like last time but I couldn't and my body felt drained. I was carried for about a minute longer before we came to a rock pool where we could swim out into the sea.

"I can't go out there; I won't be able to breathe." I said as Kailani and Mako lowered me to my shaky feet.

"We'll get Caspian to you. He has the underwater ability potions." Mako nodded.

"Has Bennett been rescued?"

"Yes, he's on the way back to the Kingdom with Leomaris. You were the one they put on high security and Bennett found a way to escape meeting one the Kingdoms warriors." Mako reassured me.

"Yes!" I laughed as relief flooded my system. "I'll wait here, just go get Caspian."

"We need to mask your scent first so no one will find you here." Kailani said as she threw a handful of purple chalky stuff over me. I sneezed making them laugh as the chalk settled all over me.

"We will be back with Caspian soon." Kailani told me before she jumped down into the water changing into her Mer form closely followed by Mako.

My heart was beating so fast as I waited on my own. I had squeezed myself into a gap in the wall just in case anyone happened to walk down here. I calmed myself by taking deep breaths and watching for when Caspian appeared. I thought I heard movement in the dark tunnels but passed it off as the water. I heard more noises until it dawned on me I was hearing footsteps.

"Have you found him yet?"

That was Finn's voice...

"No, I'll keep searching here you look down the West boarder. He has to be somewhere."

I think I was having a panic attack as my body was shakily violently and I was going light headed from the lack of oxygen. I had to stay quiet I kept reminding myself. Caspian will be here soon.

The footsteps got closer and closer to my hiding place, so close that I could see the cloud of dust Finn kicked in anger. He walked angrily into my line of sight and crouched down peering into the water.

"He might have gone out the East boarder passage but he couldn't breathe without those potions. I want two guards with me, now!" Finn barked into a shell.

Two big Zambezis joined Finn in mere seconds. Their footsteps thundering down the tunnels as they ran towards him. He hadn't noticed me yet and I had clasped a hand over my mouth to stop my heavy breathing being heard. Finn stood up slowly and looked around and my heart dropped when our eyes connected.

"There you are." He growled, a smirk spreading across his face as he strode towards me.

Suddenly, Kailani burst though the water followed by Caspian and Mako!

"Caspian, help!" I screamed pressing myself further into the wall.

It was like I was watching in slow motion as Kailani ran towards me but a guard she hadn't seen stopped her by stabbing her with his sword. I watched her fall to the floor lifelessly as Mako came up behind them both and took them out. I was crying as Caspian fought with Finn but all I could concentrate on my Kailani. I crawled towards her protecting her dead body and cried for her to wake up. She had helped me so much and done so much for me and now she died for me. I didn't deserve that. She was there for me since this all started. She guided me and helped me make the right decisions. It wasn't fair that this happened to her!

"Jonah, we have to go." Mako said trying to pry me off Kailani.

"No! Get off me!" I screamed.

"Caspian, Jonah needs you!"

"Jojo," Caspian breathed pulling me into his chest. "It's okay Kitten, I'm here."

I clung to Caspian letting out all my built up stress and anger as he cuddled he and whispered soothing words to me and I breathed in his comforting scent.

"I-I wanna go h-home." I whimpered.

"We will Kitten. I got you, calm down." Caspian told me kissing my cheek.

He stood with me in his arms as I looked at the blood stained floor where Finn and the two guards lay. Caspian fed me a potion and lowered me into the water before changing forms himself and swimming quickly away hiding in amongst the ship wrecks. Mako was carrying Kailani but he swam a little way behind us probably not wanting to traumatize me anyone with seeing her dead body.

"You're okay now Jojo, I love you so much." Caspian whispered nuzzling my neck as he carried me all the way back to the Kingdom.
