Marinette held the foil up and poked Chat Noir's chest with it. "Teach me how to fence."

Chat Noir's eyes widened. "What?"

"Teach me how to fence."

"Why?"

Marinette blushed. "Well you see, I may or may not have joined my school's fencing club to impress a guy that I like— spare me the criticism, I completely regret my decision now— and now I need to learn how to fence, like, now. I've seen you fight with Darkblade and I was hoping that you would maybe teach me?"

Chat Noir laughed and shook his head. "Oh, Princess. What will I do with you?"

"I really don't know."

Chat Noir smiled fondly. "I'll teach you."

"Really? Yes! Thank you, Chat!" Marinette jumped up and down and clapped her hands...which led to her almost poking her eye out with the foil.

"You're welcome. Now, to start off, we're getting rid of this—" Chat Noir plucked the foil from her hand and set it on her chaise.

Marinette frowned. "But isn't that, like, the main part of fencing?"

"Marinette, if we start off with the foil, you'll end up cutting your arm off. With a foil. Which has a flat blade and a dull tip."

"Fine."

"Ok, so we'll start off with the basics. First is en garde. This is the first position that you start with, in a match. Put your feet like this—" Chat Noir spread his feet out. "Squat so that your knees are over your toes, and hold your foil out." Chat Noir used his baton to demonstrate. He let Marinette observe him before standing straight up. "Your turn."

Marinette nodded. "Ok..." She copied his stance as best she could. "Is this good?"

"Move your foot out a bit?" She obeyed. "Perfect. Next, is how to move while you're in the position. What you want to do is lean forward with your dominant foot and finish with your back leg. It's ideal to have your heal touch the ground first before your toes so that you can move around quicker. The same technique goes for retreating. Just move your back foot first and your front foot next. Try it." Marinette hesitantly moved forward and backward. "Good. Now just move faster and you'll be perfect." With more confidence, Marinette advanced and retreated, looking a little bit like a crab. "Great! You're a really fast learner. Your crush will be impressed for sure. I know I am."

Marinette grinned. "Thanks, Kitty."

"Now the last thing that we'll learn is how to lunge. So you're still in en garde, but instead of advancing or retreating, your just gonna push off your back leg and lean forward. It's basically a regular lunge, but you're being really aggressive about it. You'll use this move to touch your opponent." Marinette lunged at Chat and poked his chest.

"Like that?" she giggled.

Chat smiled down at her. "Exactly like that. Tomorrow, I might let you practice with the foil. When is the first meeting?"

Marinette straightened from her stance. "Tomorrow."

"Well, this guy will definitely be blown away by your skills. You do have the best teacher, after all." Chat Noir smirked and nudged his friend.

Marinette smiled and rolled her eyes. "Yeah, yeah. Thanks."

"Of course. Tell me what he says, yeah?"

"Sure."
