Daily- March 8

Day eight! A little too late but you can always use the tips another time. If you're reading this then you have either written this far or you are still struggling and need inspiration. Just because you aren't writing doesn't mean you can't pop into the slack chat and take a look at the progress of your fellow dashers and talk a bit.
Any way on to the tips!

Day seven and six we talked about protagonists/heroes and antagonists/villains. Today we will talk about the supporting characters.

Anybody that isn't an integral part of the story, anyone that is expendable in the story, anyone that the story can do without and still meet or teach its base message is a supporting character.

This doesn't in any way mean that supporting characters are not needed. They are. It depends on how you write the book. Supporting characters may just be another kid in the school. Might just a neighbour the main character interacts with, might just be someone that only shows up once, might just be a best friend that is a regular character but not the main character.

Books need supporting characters to make them good. Reading a book with very characters is a huge turnoff for me. I want to read about with lots of well written characters. Even if you don't give detail of everyone, just mentioning a number of people in a room, maybe giving names at some point, in a school or work setting you could give little stories of supporting characters.

Maybe something like:- "Oh, don't mind her, she jas been that way since Reggie simons broke her heart."

Reggie simons is a supporting character that can't even in the scene, but he is still important and adds to a characters backstory.

Another example before I leave is:-

"Oh that's Sean Con's parking space, he is the disabled kid in school."

This Sean Con character might be mention a few times in the book or not at all, but he has added to the story, now readers know there is a designated parking spot for disables kids. Sea might turn out to be the main love interest of just another dude. But he added something to the story.

I'm gonna leave you with today that, supporting characters are important. Develop them well, no need to be too detailed but no need to be vague either.
