Day 18 | Happiness
This is pretty good! I'm surprised I've been able to just keep writing. I actually have more on their way! Huzzah! I might finish up to the end before the 31st! This story is inspired from an actual moment from Critical Role. Actually, it literally was in last weeks episode. I thought it was appropriate, so I wrote it here. Scanlan knows what he is talking about.
Day 18: Write a short story about the 'formula for happiness."
Happiness
Vax'ildan wandered through the halls of Whitestone's castle, eyes moving incessantly back and forth. Where was that crazy gnome?
As he thought that, his eyes found the tiny form of the man he was looking for. The jovial gnome was lounging on a chair, arms waving extravagantly as he attempted to woo Pike once more with tales of his own bravery and awe-inspiring personality.
"Hey Scanlan, can I talk to you for a bit?" Vax asked, popping up soundlessly from behind them. The two gnomes let out little gasps of surprise before Scanlan let out a little burst of laughter.
"Of course, Vax'ildan. Milady." He bowed to Pike and followed Vax to a random room in the castle. "What's up, Vax?" He smiled. Vax watched the gnome smile incredulously.
"How are you always so happy?" Vax asked bluntly, frown adorning his face. "I don't understand how you can always be smiling while all of this shit is happening."
Scanlan let out a noise of surprise, eyes roaming over Vax's face consideringly. "Yeah, I do see your problem. Well, I'll tell you. I don't dwell on the sad stuff."
Vax sent him a blank look. Scanlan shot him a wide grin in return
"I like to remember that this is just... better. Even after all of the Dragons that killed everyone, even after moving across continents to try and save humanity, I remember that I have you guys with me here and there, and it's just better. Now I have a family, you know? And we do everything together, and support and help each other in a way that I didn't have before. So yeah, I'm going to be happy."
Vax just looked at him. "I think I'm more confused now then I was before." He admitted. Scanlan's laughter was almost enough to raise his spirits. Almost.
"You'll get it some day. Just try to stop dwelling on all the negative things that happen, and start looking at the happiness." Scanlan patted Vax on the back before leaving him to think about everything that was happening.
