March 30th: The Tale Of Shelly

There is a tale
That needs to be told
Of a beautiful woman
Now fully grown.

Born first out of three
She had more responsibilities
But she loved her siblings
Even when they fought with her
Even when she took blame for them
Even when they betrayed her.

Her family she found
Was more with her friends
She would rather stay out
Than go home to her parents.
When home she would ignore them
Blare music in her room
And slam the door shut.

Years pass and she's now fourteen
First day of high school
And her highlight was the bus
On her way home she sat alone
Starring blankly at her math
He could not ignore her frustration
So he asked if he could give aid

That was the moment
When the stars finally aligned
She knew the gods were giving her some kind of sign
By placing him at her side
She made her vow then
She'd never love again
For he was her one true love

Three years older they said was too old
But she didn't let it stop her
She fought for him
As her fought for his country
And she waited for him to come home

She waited through wars
Through months without word,
Through relationships with other girls
He didn't see her yet the way she saw him
But she knew someday he would
So she waited through everything
Even an engagement that fell through

Then one day,
The stars aligned for him too
And all he could think of was her
Nineteen and twenty-two
Living with each other in the big world.
So many told them it was bad
That they were far too young
But she had know for seven years
That they were destined for love.

And on that seventh year
They made promises at the alter
With a child on the way,
A beautiful brown haired daughter.
He left his fight to see her born
And joined the business world.
She stayed at home to watch her grow
And mark every milestone.

Now with child and man of her dreams
This woman has all she needs,
But another still comes
In three years time
A second small pink hand.

Years roll on and both children grow
To be healthy and kind
She wants more for her kids
Than she ever had
She wants to leave the past behind.

But not all was bad in her past
She still talks with her friends
And her siblings she has re-connected with
Her daughters will grow
Knowing they are loved by their family

Now she is forty
With husband,
Teen,
And young adult bound for university.
Her eldest grows much different from her
As she was a much different mother.

But as her first is leaving the nest,
With the other two years behind,
She glad to see that they can do
The things that she could not.

At the close of this tale
It should be known
That the woman grew to be
A wonderful hero to me.
