Chapter 1

"It's your fault that these kits are dead. I never want to see you again."

Mapleshade smiled giddily as she knew that she had accomplished at least killing three cats.

She continued walking for a while, lost in her thoughts. She didn't notice as the trees disappeared and another shadow overtook her.

Thump! Mapleshade's nose slammed into a rough surface that felt similar to wood.

A laugh sounded above her.

She glanced up to see a very fluffy gray and white tom with yellow eyes sitting on the fence. Mapleshade had not been to this part of the twoleg place before, her only experience with the twoleg place being what she had seen in her time in Thunderclan.

"You gotta watch where you're going next time," he said, laughing.

Mapleshade's throbbed.

"Don't tell me what to do!" she hissed, rubbing her nose.

He just laughed.

"I'm Felix. You must be one of those vicious clan cats that live out there," he said, flicking his fluffy tail.

"Not anymore," Mapleshade grumbled.

"What happened?" he asked.

"Why should I tell you?" she retorted.

Felix shrugged.

"Seems important for this kind of conversation if I were to invite you in for some food." he said.

"You're offering food to a complete stranger?"

"One of my many skills, along with being really good looking, and being lovable," he said.

"Felix, are you talking to another stranger?" another voice said. A ginger and gray she-cat with white markings appeared next to Felix and cuffed him over the ears. Our twolegs aren't going to have any food left at the rate you're going!"

She turned to Mapleshade.

"I'm Luna, and this is Felix, but I assume you already know that. He's my mate, but he still flirts with other cats. You better come inside, you look like you haven't eaten in days," she said, hopping down the fence to the other side.

Felix hopped down after her, and left Mapleshade no choice but to go after them. After scrambling up after a few tries, she leapt down over the other side.

"Hurry up!" he purred. He jumped up some wooden things he called stairs and started to screech and the top of his lungs.

A tallish two leg with long brown fur on top of her head walked out and saw Mapleshade. She rolled her eyes and went back inside for a few minutes. When she came back out, she had something that Felix said was called a 'bowl', filled with little pellets.

She set it down in front of Mapleshade, then went back inside.

"Go on, eat! It's not going to bite!" Felix said.

Luna flicked him with her tail and motioned for him to follow her, leaving her alone to eat.

When she had finished, she licked her chops and looked around. Luna and Felix were nowhere to be found.

"Are you lost?" a voice asked from a nearby fence.

Mapleshade looked up and saw a blue tabby tom with strikingly pale green eyes perched on the fence.

"No, I'm perfectly fine. I know where I am. The forest is just that way," she said, flicking her tail to the other side of the fence where the trees stood.

The tom hopped down and scented the air.

"How many have you killed?" he asked.

Mapleshade was taken back.

"Why do you need to know?" she hissed.

The tom didn't blink at the hostility Mapleshade had shown.

"You're a warrior." he said. It wasn't a question.

"Yes, what's it to you?" she asked, getting frustrated. The tom wasn't answering any of her questions.

He cocked his head.

"Did they deserve it?" he asked.

"Why do you care?" Mapleshade hissed.

"Did they deserve it?" he asked again.

"Yes, they deserved it." she growled, not happy with this guy.

He nodded.

"A life for a life." he murmured.

"Ryan, are you bothering this poor cat?" Luna asked, trotting up behind him.

He shrugged.

"Depends on the definition of bothering." he said.

Luna smacked him with her tail.

"Pestering her with questions!" she turned to Mapleshade, "You're free to go whenever you want."

"I'd better be heading back, I have things to do, cats to mutilate..." The last part Mapleshade said a little quieter, but no one seemed to notice.

"I'll go with you," Ryan said.

Mapleshade scowled at him, then leaped up the fence.

"You coming?" she asked, them leaped down the other side.
